Love to see Sefris played on this channel, it’s one of my personal favourites. My list is more of a basic reanimator list with lots of discarding, so it’s interesting to see a version that’s very focused on venture triggers.
I have a built sefris deck as well and it pops off with venturing almost as much as jalbert and it’s so fun to do. Lots of etb creatures in that deck and when u add strionic and panharmonicon it just goes crazy. I do have yorion, brago, eerie interlude, and soul herder for some flicker to get those ventures in as well and other etb affects from other creatures. Overall very fun and can be strong when you have buried alive opening hand and do the sefris, reveilark, karmic guide, sac outlet infinite with lost of phandelver. If you ever plan to do that route I’d suggest skirge familiar with elixir of immortality to discard your hand into your graveyard since your drawing so much in case you get to close to drawing out.
I went a similar way, but with toolbox creatures. Lots of looters and other instant speed discard, so I can be venturing on everyone's turn. Everything I could make a creature I did (board wipes, MDFC, interaction) so I have the best chance of drawing a creature (48 in the deck) when I loot, so I will always have something to dump. Shout out to Tortured Existence, which is a great card in Sefris, likewise Golgari Thug. Dredge gives a solid chance to get a milled creature, if not, I guarantee drawing the Thug with a looter, allowing me to discard the thug again for a Sefris trigger when needed. Oriq Loremage is the other great card, guaranteed creature to graveyard each activation and tutors reanimator targets to boot. I had avoided the on attack and ETB ventures, as I worried I wouldn't get as many off in my turn, versus having lots of instant speed card-to-graveyard effects (to get the most off the Sefris triggers). Turns out I underestimated the power.
@@chrisflowers6890 I don't have a list unfortunately, cuz it's a recent deck, but things I like to use are Precursor Golem and Sundial of the Infinite. The golem cuz it creates even more on ETB, and if you use something like Expedite on one of them, you draw a massive amount of cards. Sundial is in there for obvious reasons. Creatures that have powerful ETB or attack triggers are a good idea too, like Dragon Mage and the like

Regarding Jeska´s Will misplay: Once you’ve announced that you’re casting a spell, players can’t take any actions until you’ve finished doing so. Notably, opponents can’t try to remove your commander to change how many modes you may choose. Once you’ve chosen both modes for the spell, it doesn’t matter whether you continue to control a commander. This is true even if you somehow no longer control a commander as you finish casting the spell. Also, you don`t necessarily have to control "YOUR" Commander just "A"
Sefris is one of my favorite decks to play and watch. Reanimator is the best strategy. Shes gross with spark double, so many venture triggers, so much reanimation. Such a fun deck, balancing the venture triggers and traditional reanimator
As a Rionya player, Missing the +1 token trigger hurts lol. Also i usually would make the humble defector token, activate it and draw 2 then give the token away since it disappears. Rionya is such a glass cannon. She can be very strong
@@ShiningCrimzon True. That early rionya was sweet. Turn 2 i think? I think she needs to be optimized with fast mana for her to succeed the most. othetwise, a more casual rionya wont do anything until turn 4 or 5 then she needs something to copy

Glass cannon indeed but as a mono red player at heart I am willing to live with the downside lol she's been my favorite since her release and she has not disappointed. I do feel bad when the deck does go off sometimes because it seems like I'm playing a power level higher than some of the other players so I only bring her out so often now
@@BuckShotTherapy true. when no one interacts with her or underestimates her she can do a ton of damage or create a ton of value in one turn. Ive made several dozen myrs with copying myr battlesphere, destroyed a bunch of lands with obsidian charmaw or just outright won with scourge of valkas
I have a Sefris deck, and I love how the value train rolls with dungeon venturing. It also doesn’t matter if your creatures hit the bin, because they can just come right back
Oh wow, I didn't even think about how Rionya's triggers were "1+". That makes her so much better. Edit: That Sefris deck played really well. If I had the money, I'd be making one. I love all the synergy and recursion.
@@rachelsejten5247 While true that Sefris' venture ability only triggers once a turn, he never used it more than once a turn. All the other venturing is from several of the other creatures he has on the board, particularly Radiant Solar. If you look at his turn starting around 13:00, he has two creatures die, but only triggers Sefris' venture once. In fact, as far as I can tell, he actually misses 2 Radiant Solar triggers during the game. Either that, or Muddstah didn't mention them because of how many he ended up having in the end =P

13:37 Jalbert cannot activate it. It entered during his combat phase at 11:41 and therefore still has summoning sickness, as it had not seen his upkeep step
Yeah, I'm wondering how that might have changed if Muddstah had put a few Wither Wretch activations his way. Exiling the Sun Titan before it reanimated probably would've slowed them down a lot
I've had some really good times with rionya. Happy to see more gameplay videos on it since she's been my favorite mono red commander ever since she came out. Rionya and alibou were my first two builds out of strixhaven and I enjoy them both so much... on another note for rionya I think I definitely have a more different build though because this definitely seemed like a tobran deck in the beginning more than anything else lol
i like the synergy Jalbert is doing with Sefris of the Hidden Ways, it also looks like at a certain point he can actually manage to "do his thing" without the commander in play anymore. Really neat deck.

Sefris is insane. I've taken the unaltered precon for a spin a few times in mid-power pods, and it always presents a problem for the rest of the table. Not sure if it's an issue of my local playgroup not being great at deckbuilding or if the precon really is just that good, but it's consistently been impressive.
The Sefris precon has some decent reanimator targets built into it and only needs a few extra looter cards like M21 Teferi and Tortured Existence to start outvaluing the table. You are basically constantly the threat.
I built Sefris recently and I can confirm, once it gets going, the amount of value it can produce is insane. Radiant Solar lets you race through dungeons like crazy.
I have a Kardur list too, and honestly- it's easy to get to 2nd place but trying to pull out the win can be difficult. Deadly Tempest, Mob Rule, and Insurrection are my current end game win cons.
Yeah, that's about it unfortunately. I run a reanimator package + Wound Reflection/Vicious Shadows. Problem is, you keep casting kardur and not developping your board most of the time. The deck is fun, but does not win. Will switch to Karazikar and see!
I love mine! You just have to make sure you have answers or a finish on the final person. I think people focus too much on playing kardur too many times. You usually only need to play him on a couple critical turns. Also, if you're left in the 1on1, I find that Rakdos Charm, Price of Progress, and Exsanguinate tend to do the job.
@@boneheadcycler1412 pestilence and pyrohemia seems strong too with drain that Kardus has... make them fight, punch with pestilence. Unfortunelately it's not like Mogdis where you cna have last laugh effect, but since Kardur make you less of a target you can play those high punishing effect to buy a turn or two.. Also there is old mtg card that punish artefact on upkeep : 1 damage per artefact for 3 mana enchant... so strong if you ramp yourself with burnishing eartha nd the like...
That Klothys playmat was sweet, but the Dungeon deck was even sweeter, so tempted to buy one... Even if Esper is not my style, draw and discard then reanimate looks so much fun.

You untapped with Krrik and Celebrant while at 29 life. You could have cast Villis for 2 black (swamps) and then used krrik + celebrant to pay 9 life for the remaining 3 generic and then 6 life to cover villis black pips. Leaving you at 14. It would have been risky but Krrik + villis is basically a yawgmoth's bargain. Depending on rest of deck dropping to 4 or 6 and drawing 8 to 10 cards could have put you in the driver seat. Krrik has lifelink so you can clawback quite a bit depending on boardstate.
It occurs to me that Blood Celebrant + K'rrik make an improved Treasonous Ogre. You could have *LITERALLY* emptied your hand, so long as you had the life to pay.
He full on could have dropped his commander and started churning through his deck that turn, but it would have left him vulnerable if he didn't find anything to defend with (which is doubtful).
Hi, i am having trouble understanding the part where Rionya doesn't trigger even though no instant or sorcery spell's were cast. I have the card myself and am having difficulties finding the ruling on the specifics for it not to trigger once, because if X is 0 then shouldn't it be 0 + 1 = 1?
This is correct; but, it does trigger for each player hit. When he attacked with four creatures against two opponents and they all hit, he has two triggers (since two players were dealt combat damage), each time venturing once.
It’s worth it. Having a mechanic no one can target that gets you solid treasure token, +1+1 counters and card draw that can be done efficiently is pretty awesome. Mad mage can go crazy too
Why do so many people play on this channel without knowing what their commander does? I can understand misplays, but literally not reading the one card you made a deck for???
I love Sefris, I built mine as a graveyard life drain deck with running tomb of annilation over and over again, but I might have to add some of these pieces to my deck 🤔
My Sefris deck routinely goes off like that. Just churning through my graveyard and reanimating fatties like Sheoldred and Sepulchral Primordial. Ashen Rider is one of the best creatures in the deck alongside Karmic Guide. I’ve exiled 8 permanents in a turn once.
Under Rionya you almost never give away your actual Humble Deflector. It's a shame he didn't know how Rionya worked in the beginning. Rionya is really powerful. In my play group, if I play my Rionya deck, they try keeping me from getting her on the field.
@@Zackeus1992 that's what I meant, should trigger only once. I did went searching and apparently that wording allows to trigger twice if you deal combat damage to two different players.
Jalbert couldn't have activated the Humble Defector on your end step since it says "Activate only during your turn.", plus he kept it after using it's ability and didn't give it to someone else.
They don't combo together, but rather with Vilis. K'rrik would have let me cast Vilis if I had access to 5 mana, which I was sadly stuck on 3. The Celebrant only works with Vilis, but yes, I could draw as many cards as I had life total.
Cool game, but several misplays. The Hellion has trample, so chump blocking wouldn’t have been effective for Jalbert. Additionally, Riona’s effect could have been so much more impactful if the card was correctly. Also that new card for Sephris says “whenever one or more creatures deal combat damage, venture into the dungeon.” Therefore, only venture trigger should have occurred after that attack.
Can you provide me a timestamp for the ventures? Some of them happened on attack, some happened upon connecting. Additionally, it may have been just me fast-tracking some of the abilities in narration to simplify.
@@michaelmurphy275 Oh, I see where the confusion is. Pathlighter actually can trigger more than once. If you read the ability "Whenever one or more creatures you control deal combat damage to a player, venture into the dungeon." it's the clause "to a player" that matters here. If Jalbert had hit me with 4 creatures and Kevin with 1, it would still only trigger the two times.

@@MTGMuddstah You can pay activation costs with Kirrik. K’rrik’s ability lets you pay 2 life for {B} in any cost you pay, including casting costs, activation costs, and even costs for special actions (such as morph). Any time you pay mana, that’s a cost.
The goblin token dying in combat (goes to graveyard and cease to exist) would have made Sefris venture into the dungeon and so completing it during that turn...
The way Sefris is worded (Whenever a creature card...), he unfortunately doesn't trigger off tokens. As my LGS judge told me when I tried, tokens are not cards in that regard.

The Pathlighter doesn't venture per creature, it's just 1 room regardless of how many creatures hit.

Under Rionya you almost never give away your actual Humble Deflector. It's a shame he didn't know how Rionya worked in the beginning. Rionya is really powerful. In my play group, if I play my Rionya deck, they try keeping me from getting her on the field.
Imagine building an entire commander deck and not knowing what your commander does...

Why did Sefris trigger venture twice on T4, Pathlighter says "whenever one OR MORE" so its just one trigger
Counts per opponent. Not per creature
@@Zackeus1992 that's what I meant, should trigger only once. I did went searching and apparently that wording allows to trigger twice if you deal combat damage to two different players.

Jalbert couldn't have activated the Humble Defector
on your end step since it says "Activate only during your turn.", plus he kept it after using it's ability and didn't give it to someone else.
He used it as an attacker, not for its ability.
How did he play Rionya on turn 2 with only 4 mana?

You can not Unequipped artifact from creatures there has to be a reason why you cannot just pay the equip cost again and move it
You had krrik and celebrant and didn't just wipe the board and draw your deck?
They don't combo together, but rather with Vilis. K'rrik would have let me cast Vilis if I had access to 5 mana, which I was sadly stuck on 3.
The Celebrant only works with Vilis, but yes, I could draw as many cards as I had life total.
@@MTGMuddstah the celebrants cost can be paid with phyrexian mana with kriik out. Kriik doesn't just change casting costs but anything with a pip

Cool game, but several misplays. The Hellion has trample, so chump blocking wouldn’t have been effective for Jalbert.
Additionally, Riona’s effect could have been so much more impactful if the card was correctly.
Also that new card for Sephris says “whenever one or more creatures deal combat damage, venture into the dungeon.” Therefore, only venture trigger should have occurred after that attack.
Can you provide me a timestamp for the ventures? Some of them happened on attack, some happened upon connecting. Additionally, it may have been just me fast-tracking some of the abilities in narration to simplify.

@@michaelmurphy275 Oh, I see where the confusion is. Pathlighter actually can trigger more than once. If you read the ability "Whenever one or more creatures you control deal combat damage to a player, venture into the dungeon." it's the clause "to a player" that matters here.
If Jalbert had hit me with 4 creatures and Kevin with 1, it would still only trigger the two times.

They also missed a suntitan trigger when if first attacked, he wouldve been able to get the doomed necromancer back

You could have used kirrik with blood celebrant to get a treasonous ogre effect I think, right?
Nope. Celebrant has you paying 1 black and 1 life to make 1 of any color of mana. It filters.
@@MTGMuddstah krrik + celebrant = pay 3 life make 1 mana of any color (krrik lets you waive the up front B).

K’rrik’s ability lets you pay 2 life for {B} in any cost you pay, including casting costs, activation costs, and even costs for special actions (such as morph). Any time you pay mana, that’s a cost.
The goblin token dying in combat (goes to graveyard and cease to exist) would have made Sefris venture into the dungeon and so completing it during that turn...
The way Sefris is worded (Whenever a creature card...), he unfortunately doesn't trigger off tokens. As my LGS judge told me when I tried, tokens are not cards in that regard.

Sefris isn't the only card that's doing venturing in Jalbert's deck. He built it around the whole mechanic!
