    Terrific review - and put across in a really natural non-fanboy way which I really appreciate. I bought the 400's, and have to say I'm really impressed as they have replaced a 7.1 system in an attempt to declutter a lounge. The speech in particular is as clear as my dedicated speech channel speaker.
    Only issue I've found is the very occaisional disconnection - however the latest firmware seems to have fixed that (for now - we'll see).

    Loved your presentation very much....I am myself in the middle of buying a pair of speakers for my desktop, where I consume almost all of my data and currently divided between the Q active 200 and B&W formation duo...can you suggest me one of them make my life easier...I really need an expert opinion on it...I love the sound of Duo whatever I have heard on the internet through my Sony MDR1BT2 headphones but I like the ease and convenience of Q's especially with their dock to connect different source plus the look and the size, which are more suitable for me to put it on my desk...So my question would be that the sound difference from Q's to Duo's is enough to cough 2.5x times more on the Duo's or should I settle happily with the Q's??? Thanks!!!

    as much as i love Q acoustics (especially their Concept series), these active speakers sound very frontal and flat. no depth what so ever, which is exactly what Whathifi had to say about them... they are not cheap, and they have a way to go. the KEFs are way more engaging in every single way.

    One item that wasn't compared is the relative driver sizing and ability to fill a larger room. Difficult for me to do with the Q Acoustics drivers.

    Thank you for such a solid review! I have a “lively” living room (13 deep by 19 wide) with partially vaulted ceilings. Because it’s a main living room, I’m not planning to treat the room much and therefore am looking for a minimalist design. I also tend (like most) to sit on one side of the sofa (hence not centered between each speaker). Based on these, and maybe even Formation Duos, do you have any suggestions? I tried Sonos Era 300 pair, and I go ear fatigue from the multi-direction tweeters bouncing all around lol. Thanks again!! Awesome job!

      I haven't tried the Formation's so I can't say but I really like the LS50 Wireless II's.

      @@HomeTheaterHobbyist I hope you get a chance to review the B&Ws. They cost more but I hear they do sound better and warmer than the usual B&W sound. I’m going to try to listen to both in the coming days. I have read the LS are less stringent with the sweet spot, which is a particular need of mine. Will let you know. Thank you for an awesome vid!

      B&W are usually very lively sounding speakers with an elevated treble so I wouldn't recommend for an already lively sounding room.. maybe something with room calibration or a smooth top end.. I'm thinking silk dome tweeters rather than metallic if Sonos didn't work before.. 👍 @@michaelbakhtiar9256

    On the sound test the KEF sound was very dry like music came from the dessert while same music on Q Acoustic sounded very wet with a lot of oxygen (I thought of streams and waterfalls)

    What are your thoughts on different genres of music between these brands? For example, which do better with rock or R&B or electric, folk, classical. I know right? Sorry for the ask. :)

      I played some audio samples using a few different types of music here: th-cam.com/video/4SeGhkU0sCY/w-d-xo.html. Overall I think the Q Active 200 is slightly brighter (think Rock n Roll) in its overall tone while the LS50 is a bit warmer (think R&B/Jazz). Overall I think the LS50 is the better because it has so many connections and works well for pretty much all types of music. Hopefully this helps

      😁😁😁 great question! I’m not sure a lot of LS60s are out for review but if I’m able to get a pair and the Q Actives, I’ll definitely compare them.

    I have two big HomePods connected to my TV to listen to music and watch movies. I would really like to know if these two options are much better.

    • @Shaken_AND_Stirred
      @Shaken_AND_Stirred 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think HomePods sound really good, but they are in a completely different category from 2 channel dedicated audio speakers. HomePods create an “immersion” of sound from all directions which sounds good for what it is designed for.
      However, there is no getting around the quality of a two channel dedicated listening environment. In other words, real critical listening will be done with dedicated stereo speakers. You’ll definitely get better channel separation and higher fidelity. They are simply much more expensive speakers engineered for critical listening than HomePods.
      At the end of the day though, it only matters as to what you think sounds best. If you are happy with the HomePods, then there is no reason to spend the extra money.
      Cheers

    • @HomeTheaterHobbyist
      @HomeTheaterHobbyist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven’t tried the big HomePods so I can’t really say. If you can get an in home trial of one of these and compare to the HomePods go for it. 🙂
      But in general terms I agree with @oldoiler’s comment, if you like the sound from your current setup stick with it as long as possible.

    But you still have to connect them to an electric power cord, right? I don't see a real advantage in getting rid of one kind of wire, but not the other. Perhaps for people who aren't very familiar with how to connect home theater gear? Or for people who are always moving their speakers around?
    I feel like I have to sit and think to come up with some situation in which these speakers have an advantage over regular wired speakers.
    Maybe these kind of speakers will eventually be better if 'wireless electricity' becomes a thing. Like wireless charging, but powering household appliances. Or, if they had a battery or capacitor inside that could charge in a few minutes and last long enough to watch a whole movie.

    • @HomeTheaterHobbyist

      The ‘active’ nature of the speakers meaning the drive units are connected directly to matching amplifiers gives an immediate improvement over passive speakers. The battery would have to be a substantial size to even power them for a couple of hours and a capacitor would be impractical.
