  • Let’s check out how a CVT transmission vehicle drives at low speeds & higher speeds. It does feel a bit different than your traditional transmission. Let me know what you about the CVT and would you want one on your vehicle?!

    Except here's the kicker... What you just showed isn't how a CVT was designed to behave! Original CVTs, many years ago, did not simulate gear shifts. OG CVTs would hold RPMs at the higher range and just stay there. Then, the modern customer complained about how awkward and unnatural it felt. Now CVTs simulate gear shifts, completely defeating the point of a CVT! 🙃

      That feeling came back with hybrids. I have a Chevy volt for instance and my engine goes up and down in RPM based on voltage of the battery not drive speed. There are many instances where I can be going 80mph and my engine just shuts off because it doesn't need any extra power.

  • @JohnCena-rg4yx
    @JohnCena-rg4yx ปีที่แล้ว +14

    CVT has a different way to drive, it's related to the way you press into the gas pedal. As it shifts up, you should initially press slowly and then you press normally. It has something to do with torque response time in regards to rpm.

  • @WilC379
    @WilC379 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I had a 2004 Murano, a 2009 Altima coupe, and a 2011 Murano and never had a problem with any of them. I always said the CVT feels like driving a boat. You throttle up, the engine revs up to a static RPM, and the vehicle accelerates.

  • @jasperdomacena6491
    @jasperdomacena6491 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    CVT fake shifts? ohhh hell no.
    if you ever got to ride a CVT Scooter that's what it should feel like.
    a CVT works by setting engine to run at a "constant" rpm usually it sets the rpm on the rpm of which it makes the max power when you floor it or max torque if you're on the throttle but not flooring it.
    then the transmission variates the ratio to give it's optimal performance / economy/ etc.
    this happens while you're accelerating, going up hill, cruising, or slowing down.
    Fake Shifts defeats the purpose of a CVT.
    maybe it does that to make it feel like a Regular A/T, because it may sound like it's broken for untrained ears.

      CVT actually deserves the hate. It is not as durable as a regular geared transmission. That's why you don't see trucks, large SUVs or sports cars using this junk transmission. A half inch wide belt pulling a two ton car is not appealing. Nissan also had 2 class action lawsuits for this transmission

    • @kylewitter2806
      @kylewitter2806 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Belts can’t transmit torque. That’s why you don’t see larger heavier vehicles like trucks or full-size SUV’s with CVT’s. CVT’s are great for lighter vehicles like snowmobiles and go carts but the more torque you need, the worse a CVT performs.

  • @williambaldwin1707
    @williambaldwin1707 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I hate them. I like the idea but they have no place in ice engines. They burn up too easily and they’re way too difficult to diagnose when they begin to fail. You really won’t know it’s going out until it’s way too late. Conventional automatics and more so manuals are very easy to purchase second hand because it’s usually pretty obvious when they have a problem. Not so for cvts. Plus a cvt makes every vehicle they’re in feel sluggish and believe it or not they just follow a number of preset gear ranges. It’s not like the computer is smart enough to make micro adjustments like most people think. It allows for a lot more gear ranges with less transmission complexity at the cost of durability and desirability among people who like a car for something more than a commute to work.

    • @Jorge-dw8pb
      @Jorge-dw8pb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is true. All the benefits of a CVT are not really taken advantage of by car makers. However, a Formula 1 racing team created an extremely effective CVT and it was banned the second time they tested it. It was far superior to traditional automatics. But then again, that is formula 1, no car manufacturer is going to spend the time and money to create a good cvt.
