    “Return of the Jedi” was everything we hoped for and got back in 1983. Not My STAR WARS delivers the BEST material.

    He said George Lucas IS the Disney of the 80’s & he hopes Lucas keeps making these every 3 years. He goes on to say he expects the quality to remain as well. Ahhh, the good ol’ days. Thanks so much for completely ruining Star Wars Disney. 😒 …that said….I loved this video and thank you NMSW!

    I think it’s on par with Empire Strikes Back. Excellent film. It comes full circle with A New Hope and gives a happy ending while having a mix of light and dark moments. Truly an incredible ending to the trilogy and the Star Wars saga as a whole.

    One of the very few positive reviews of the film back then. I was little then. But! I remember establishment critics bashing it because it was well known that Lucas hated the Hollywood studio process

    • @gaget5455
      @gaget5455 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And because of the Ewoks. Wasn’t just hated by the critics, but by some of The Fans too.

    • @OneTrueVikingbard
      @OneTrueVikingbard 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@gaget5455 and those “fans” went on to dictate not only public opinion about Star Wars, but to shape the subculture’s opinions about the original trilogy as well.
      It is sad that the people who dictated the narrative of the Star Wars fandom and who basically told Disney what they wanted them to do liked Star Wars when it was least like Star Wars. That is to say, they liked a science fiction war movie with moral ambiguity and humans front and center, and hated all of the mystical and fantastical elements that set Star Wars apart from Star Trek or Doctor Who.

    • @NotMySTARWARS
      @NotMySTARWARS  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      True, but I always loved the Ewoks.

      you forgot Siskel and Ebert, Lenard Maltin, Time Magazine, BBC, and the Washington post.
      They praised the hell out of it.
      In fact, TIme Magazine praised the film for being more mature then the first two films.

    Hard to convey how excited we were as kids who’d had to wait three years since the Empire Strikes Back kept us hanging by a thread. We only had snippets of clips and images to tease us before it released- poster books, sticker albums etc.

    • @NotMySTARWARS
      @NotMySTARWARS  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it was torture haha, but looking back it was great to have so much desire to see the next film.

      Now to the funny question:
      How did it compare to the time between The last jedi and Rise of Skywalker?😁

    • @ManCave1972
      @ManCave1972 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@J1O2C3K4E5S Well, the one thing I will say on that is that at the end of The Last Jedi I genuinely could not imagine how they would follow it up (I loved it BTW) with Snoke and Phasma gone, Luke gone and because we knew of the passing of Carrie Fisher, I really was fascinated to see how they’d finish that trilogy. Sadly, Rise of Skywalker was crushingly disappointing on first viewing (I’ve grown to feel better about it) so the anticipation wasn’t really paid off. I wish they’d let Rian Johnson figure out how to end it- seeing as he was the one who set that up. The Last Jedi was a great movie and was the one I would have loved as a kid.

  • @Deuteromis
    @Deuteromis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I could be wrong because I really don't follow new lore but before Disney took over at the Battle of Endor, that was the entire Rebel fleet and that was only a fraction of the Imperial fleet, which really added to just how important the battle was. And it was almost a decade or so before the New Republic finally defeated the Imperial Remnants.
    Now cause of the new lore, that was about half of the Imperial fleet there at Endor, making the Rebels and Imperials on par. Then a year later there is the battle of Jakku and the Imperials give up and sign a peace treaty.

    • @NotMySTARWARS
      @NotMySTARWARS  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. Some were in space above Endor and a few scattered throughout the galaxy on other missions, but the majority of the Rebellion was right there. A small band of rebels that took out the baddies.

    How many *"PRE PREQUELS FANS"* were utterly spoiled and jaded in their reactions to ROTJ for years after it came out. From complaining about the Ewoks being too "kid friendly" and other nitpicking complaints it is a real shame because this has always been my favorite of the films.
    Luke the flawed hero much like his father before him going to the brink while being tempted only to hang on. An epic battle between Vader and Luke beautifully filling the screen with shadows and two beams of color set to the crescendo of William's perfect score. That last 30 minutes is as good as it gets
    I love this film and it is nice to see it appreciated back then as more than just indulgent science fiction.
    (ALSO, ST JUDES IS THE BEST CHARITY IN THE WORLD, good on you!!!)

    • @TheNYCGoldenGlover
      @TheNYCGoldenGlover 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@NotMySTARWARS I never really saw ROTJ as a "childrens movie" though, at least anymore than the other two films. The point as I saw it was that these little cute teddybear guys were just as brave and loyal, if not braver and loyaler, as anyone else in the Universe.
      Without them holding it down who knows how things would have turned out. Yeah I LOVE ROTJ on so many levels and wouldnt change a thing.
      The last trench run intercut with the planetside guerilla battle and cat and mouse lightsaber duel on Deathstar II?
      Perfection for all ages. Still my fave

    I just love watching the genuine ethusaim of grown adult men, who are as thrilled as five year olds discuss (not debate...) a thing they clearly love.
    Everything now, is a debate; winners losers, trying to clap back and dominate thier opponent like there is a point sytem and its a game.
    Before the internet, people read books. They where better educated and more mannered because you actually feared pissing people off around you. Now thats the endgoal; to rile up an opiniont to get an online following so you can sell some merch.
    Fucking fuck. I hate what society has come to, but i love this channel for reminding me why it is, Star Wars is a part of my identity...sad as I'll admit that is the case i cant undo it...

    Wait, Jeffrey Lyons said THIS? I seem to remember a solo review of his on ABC 7 complaining that he couldn't stand lines like "you have learned all that you require". Siskel and Ebert were the ones who were completely off the rails for ROTJ.

      Star Wars Underworld, Darth Maul & Darth Talon Criminal Emperor.
      Where Princess Leia get to be the new Supreme Chancellor.
      George Lucas know how to Rite Women Better then Disney.

    What was it he said "nobody is going to be disapointed". A couple years later the "first nerds" are going to bitch and complain about "teday bears" and "too many muppets" on the original IRC chat logs connecting universities across the county. You can read the conversations, Google has them archived.
    The internet was invented for complaining about how childish Ewoks are by 18 year old collage freshmen who where 13 years old in 1977. 😂🤣😉😂
