Static Follow Camera Bug in Geometry Dash 2.2(04) | Why it Happens, and How to Fix it

- Truthfully was hoping the bug would be fixed by now so I didn't have to make a public video on how to fix it but oh well.
Will probably take this down if the bug gets fixed!
Some people are only starting to actually experiment with 2.2 features now, and I'm still seeing new people discover it every week. I'm surprised some people still haven't encountered it yet though.
I encountered this bug on like day 2 of the 2.2 update, and I'm assuming it's already made SOME rounds within various communities. Regardless, I have helped quite a few gameplay creators fix it already, and explaining it every time is getting tiring. The fix has likely spread due to word of mouth from various individuals alone, but I only talk to so many people in a small community. So, I made this video!

if the order thing doesnt work, dont use the order and shift the exit static trigger by .1 blocks forward. order didnt work for me btw
Yea this works too. I've had instances where I had to have order for it to work, but none where I couldn't use it. Now we know I guess, thanks for the insight!

Sometimes, you can shift both orders by 1 and it will fix (that’s how I fixed order for me 😅)
i moved the trigger to one block next ( both w channel 1) and it fixes, but the problem is...

Edit so the fix works when I tested it out on a completely new level with nothing just basically the exact same thing you had but when I would try it on my actual level that I need it for it doesn’t work hmmm idk if it has to do with duration lines? I have the trigger follow a moving object set to just follow player x with -1 duration idk

I had a similar issue that involved the boundaries of the next gamemode adapting to the current camera position rather than where they were supposed to be, and the issue that solved it for me was by turning off smooth velocity on my exit static trigger, when I didn't need to have it on in the first place
Oh interesting, I haven't experienced that myself. This is the first I'm hearing of it - ill take note if it incase my fix doesn't work for someone else.

thx it works a lot. this issue come across of me when the level ends, the camera shifts somewhere that I wouldn't want to be on, because I want the camera to end in a credits scene sort of thing (If you get the point) anyway this is very helpful.

the fact 5k+ people need this should say something about this trigger in general or about 2.2 its self
It's crazy to me that we have had multiple bugfix updates and none of them have addressed this issue yet, it's been known since early 2.2

Thanks so much I was so confused why when I went into a spider portal my camera just moved to a random spot
It fixed it, the order didn’t work with me but the original static I moved it one block behind the existing static trigger. But thanks for the help
I there a thing with the ball gamemode because IT WILL NOT WORK im getting so annoyed with this, and ive tried so many things but it keeps putting the borders really far down
Would be the same procedure, I've merged multiple collabs with the fix and they have multiple ball parts afterwards. Watch your trigger orders and channels if you're doing gimmicky stuff. If not just move the exit static over a tiny little block. Also be careful with start positions as you'll need the start position before the fix unless you use another camera trigger

Update: now for some reason, whenever theres a speed portal, the camera goes to the static where it was, like it goes all the way back in the level, i cant fix it 😭
i just had a similar issue and by sticking an exit static trigger later in the level it seemed to fix my problem. really random fix

Thank God I've been trying to workaround this for like 3 weeks now
Seems like this happened only in a created level with rotate trigger but when i try to replicate your solution, in playtesting the static camera with the order "0" focus the object it supposed to stop following and for worst it collides with the trigger with order "1".
The solution for this is just coping the trigger with exit static on, move it behind and turn off the exit static and follow checks, you can leave the duration and the easing the same but i recommend you to move the copied trigger .2 or .3 blocks behind the one which has the exit static on because when activate, the copied trigger still focus on the object but the trigger after it will work.

The problem is that whenever I put a trigger after the exit static trigger it waits for the other trigger to activate

It works in editor mode but it bugs in normal. And when it works in both, playtest in editor mode is bugged. The fun fact is that I can't do anything because using another SFC makes every other one stop working. Robtop should add a toggle called "Reset Camera".
But yeah in less than one hour i've hit by error 9 bugs in Editor Mode. Absolutely amazing update!
I actually have had someone say a similar experience to this in a discord server, but none of us can recreate their issue. We even took a copy of his level and it worked perfectly for all of us. You're the only other person I've heard of where it bugs only in normal, but technically that makes 2 now. I'm actually not really sure what the extra issue is in your case, really sorry I couldn't help :(

OH MY GOD thank you very much this bug was very annoying
not sure what i’ve done but now when i have the initial exit static trigger on a higher channel the the duplicated other one, only the one on the lower channel activates, and same when the orders are reversed. i don’t really know what’s goin on here
ok found the fix. for some reason some random lock x trigger with literally nothing to do with the static locked object was making it not work. i literally have no clue.
edit: but if it only works at certain points??? i have no idea what’s going on.
This trick isn’t working for me, could it be because I have an adv. follow trigger on the block that the static is targeting?
@adrianmolinero7507 that's actually something I'm not quite sure of, I wouldn't imagine it would make a difference but that is something I haven't fully tested or heard about yet. My only suggestion would be to try the alternate method in the pinned comment (don't use order but shift the exit static after the first static by .1)
Basically what is happening is you are first setting the static somewhere else (can be any other static trigger, or the same without the follow checked) and then after that you are exiting, since exiting from the follow state causes issues

It worked but whatever i put zoom trigger the bug fixing just doesn't work and i it Will work when the zoom trigger get triggered (edited: nvm it worked when the zoom trigger put on order 1)

EDIT: I FIGURED OUT A TEMPORARY SOLUTION. MAKE A STATIC TRIGGER RIGHT AFTER THE TWO STATIC TRIGGERS AND ALL I DID WAS JUST MAKE IT AN EXIT TRIGGER AND KINDA FIXED THE PROBLEM.
the transition into the portal is kinda weird but its playable now. Hope Rob fixed this because this took me HOURS to eventually get.

Try scrapping the order stuff and just offset the exit static trigger .1 block after the first static

Nothings working for me, I tried this method, and some in the comments, nothing worked, when I did it, it worked ONCE and then it never worked again. Basically I used a static cam at teh start of my level, then I did these methods to exit the static. I went through a cube portal and then a ship portal, after that another cube portal, then a locked-cam spider portal and it just teleported the camera below the spider part. Tried to fix I and then the camera would GRADUALLY go back to unde rather spider part. I HAD NO EASING TRIGGERS TO GO BACK. I ended up deleting the level out of frustration. These statics were not coded well at all.
Honestly yeah. This issue has been right in the face of robtop since day 1 of the update and yet he hasn't done anything about it yet. Everyone who comes to this video for a fix has a personalized copy of the game I swear, it only works in specific situations and not others. The simple solution would just be for rob to fix the bug, but he has no interest in actually making a good video game

ok so tell me why when i give the static trigger an order im pretty sure it just straight up eats all the duration lines from every trigger before it in the level how could you have possibly coded this to be a thing i dont even understand

Works until you have to add any trigger in any following parts. Then, the camera and boundaries are altered in the next part.
this is... how you prevent that? i'm not really sure what you're referring to here. I've merged multiple collabs using this fix already and it's only fixed your issue, not caused it. if you're having trouble due to order for some reason, just move each trigger a mini space to the right instead of using order.
then just repeat this every time you use the trigger again?
@GMDBestBoi any time you use static follow specifically yes. If you just use a normal static it should be fine

what if u can't even get in the first static and u have more than 1 static
not really sure what you are trying to say with this. this works regardless of how many statics you have, and is a specific bug with static follow
if u put the first static put another one and then it starts messing up so i had a room level 1 with 1 static and then room 2 after the spike and it messed up
