The sponsorship is well deserved, been following you for roughly a half decade now and you were already great when I found you, but you've just continued to improve and these days your videos are arguably the things I most look forward to on the internet.
Here's a silly little fun fact: the Ditto crit glitch is actually relevant in RBY Ubers. Ditto is sometimes used to copy the opponent's Mewtwo, so landing a critical hit while transformed is actually bad since it's calculated with Ditto's tiny 48 Special.
Another fun fact, RBY Ubers incorrectly uses dittos base speed to determine the crit rate. While ditto's stats are used on a crit, the transformed pokemon determines the crit rate.
If this is true, why hasn't anyone informed them of this? They really want to make the emulation as close to the original game as they can, so I'm sure they'd appreciate knowing.
Pikasprey's ditto run is legendary. The lack of solo content at the time, especially scaled at the levels of insanity that Jrose does quite often nowadays, had me convinced he wouldn't be able to finish the challenge

As for Jrose's "worst moves" list...there is still one more box that needs to be ticked off: Bugged Focus Energy being used to reduce unwanted crits when stats are boosted. Don't think I've seen that niche strategy employed yet. Will it ever?
@edgevalmond6173Wait what? Focus energy triggers the badge boost glitch?? I'm searching around and not seeing anything about it. I was under the impression that 2 move slots would have to be taken up; one by focus energy to eliminate crit chance, and one with the stat changer such as amnesia, defense curl, etc. to trigger the actual badge boost glitch. If that strategy only requires 1 move slot solely with focus energy, that's actually a game-changer! Even with the one downside being that you aren't getting the non-glitched, game-intended stat boosts that increase with defense curl or amnesia, that's still a big deal
@@yesec9 TECHNICALLY he used Focus Energy in this run even though it was just to use up Ditto's PP as for preventing crits after stat-boosting, I think it's too hard to justify a whole moveslot on just that
@@shnoogums1 no shot you think Rage is "a good move" it starts at 20 base power, IF you get hit 6 times and live (which is no small feat), the payoff is... a maximum of 80 base power. if you got hit every turn, that's an average of 50 base power per attack. you are barely better off than using tackle every turn, even in the unlikely case you survive 6 attacks, and much better off using something like body slam. furthermore, it locks you into that move forever, which is horrible to say the least. at least tackle doesn't lock me into using it. I'm not going to necessarily say it's the worst move in the game, but it's definitely bad with that said, Rage is actually pretty good in Gen 2 and sees a lot of speedrun usage, I'm talking about the Gen 1 version, which is never useful outside of extremely niche situations like this one time in the Ditto run against Bruno
The cooltrainer move and the bug where pikasprey had no pp but couldn’t use struggle are actually two completely different bugs. The cooltrainer move is caused by the move in slot 1 being a blank slot (caused by swapping the slot transform is in with another slot while transformed), and the pp one is caused by a bug with mirror move creating pp in a blank slot
Quick addition: Mirror Move (and Metronome does this too) don't add PP, they remove 2 PP, then add 1. This goes wrong, where the first removed PP and the first added PP happen like they should, but the second removed PP happens in the untransformed moveset. If this happens in a slot that has 0PP (which includes empty moveslots) it underflows to 63 PP (also removing a PP Up if it has one, or giving max PP Ups if it has none). This means that if Metronome/Mirror Move is used on an empty moveslot, it gets 63PP and that blocks you using struggle until you use Metronome/Mirror Move another 63 times on the same moveslot.

You are correct. Crystal_ found out that when you use Mirror Move or Metronome, the PP of the move is decreased twice: once for the activation and once when the move is picked. To fix this, Game Freak added a function that increased the PP by one afterwards so you don't notice it. What a funny coincidence. I was just watching your Emerald Ditto run yesterday and i was thinking "He didn't make a Ditto run in Gen1 yet, when will this happen?" and here we are... Keep up the good work :)
I discovered your channel about a year ago and I'm so happy to see that you're getting sponsors for your videos. You put so much work into your videos and it's to see it paying off. Keep it up!
What a cool video! Thank you for your dedication to such a niche series, and taking us with you along the way. Beyond being the quintessential breeding Pokémon, Ditto is also an incredibly unique battler! Just incredibly, inarguably frustrating when it's all you can rely on.
Pikasprey I believe has done this as well. However, it was definitely a long time ago, so I am ready to watch the Jrose edition of this. Quite a long video too gonna be exciting
Pikasprey also had a glitch halfway through that prevented him from using Struggle. I assume that won’t happen here, so there’s a chance for another strategy.
I knew from watching Pikasprey’s Ditto run a long time ago, this would be possible. However, it was interesting to see the struggles you faced doing it yourself Jrose.
In gen 1, you can fish and surf on those statues in league buildings. You could switch strategies in elite four if you wanted by either wasting your transforms on Magikarp fishes from the statue to gain struggle or using an Ether to gain transform. Transform every time turned out correct but it’s funny that switching is possible because of more gen 1 nonsense.
Jrose11 references Pikasprey's Ditto video by saying: "I haven't watched that video yet." Which is cool because that means Jrose doesn't know how to do this run and will come up with his own plans. It is also scary, because poor Jrose has no idea about the hellish struggle he is in for. This is going to be a good video.
Since Pikasprey had to deal with the glitched ditto much later in the game I was under the impression struggle had a hidden PP amount that for some reason wouldn't replenish when healing at a poke centre. But no, it was only Gen 1 jankiness
Watching all these sharp image videos of gen 1 made me see that all those "black boulders" at the side of the road that I used to see on my game boy pocket and could not figure out what they were, were just trees. I must confess that a lot of the mystery and magic of Kanto was lost after that
@@SeonilKim-ry5lj Probably not. They made a big change to struggle in Gen 4 that made struggle only/ditto playthroughs with no items usually impossible. Since ditto has Imposter you can never use struggle intentionally so any fight where the lead pokemon can't wreck most of the rest of it's team before running out of PP is doomed to fail.
CoolTrainer move is a very bizarre move. Due to its glitchy nature, the output of the move is actually based on the tiles loaded in the overworld. Sometimes it crashes, and that's a good thing. Because sometimes it can wrongwarp you, produce strange battle effects, or even corrupt your entire cartridge. NEVER use this move on an actual cartridge.
Jrose, thank you for actually using the gimmick! I've seen a few other people do Ditto only find, and you're the first one to actually make use of transform. Awesome video brother!
I haven't watched the video yet but... I remember pika did this same run and had a lot of trouble with Giovannis Rhydon... Congratz man 🎉🎉🎉 crazy grind 😮
Ditto would be fun and strategic if you could keep a transformation for the next battle. This way you could plan ahead order of battles to have the right moves for the next
You'd have to have it save Transform slots to its move list so it could remember 3 previous Transformations and you're expecting the game to not break from glitches lol no.
Bro I can’t even begin to put into words how much of a great time this vid dropping is for me. It’s been a wacky week, and you never fail to entertain. Thanks bro, keep up the good work.
Actually... I think Ditto's Transform is more like using Swords Dance (i.e., temporary stat increase). After all, Crits are based on Speed and never take into account offensive and defensive stat changes (for the Pokémon getting a crit, both offensive and defensively) in Gen 1. So when a Ditto transforms into a Persian and tries to use Slash, gets a crit; it'll do so much more using Ditto's original stats (when it entered that battle) over the stats gained via transforming. Basically put, It's not a glitch, but how the game is programed to operate under such circumstances. I did not know that- then again, I never use Ditto, so... yeah. Learnt something new today. Ditto isn't as useless in gen 1 as I originally thought.
So funny thing about you getting a Persona sponsorship, I actually found your channel from an SMT youtuber named Nyarly who shouted you out as his inspiration for his SMT3 Nocturne Minimum Battle Run a while ago. As it is, would love to see the absolute zaniness and misery of this run in Yellow! Thank you for the video!
I recently thought that focus energy actually might have been intended to work as it did but critical hits were also meant to be worse than what came after gen 1. Focus energy is on some pokemon that have a high crit move and an ATK boosting move (meditate+karate chop, slash+swords dance), so maybe you were meant to boost your ATK and focus energy to actively avoid the crits in certain situations. Even the name could kinda make sense "focus energy"="focus the ATK-boosts you accumulated"
Hey Jrose, idk if you'll read this or not but I wanted to apologize to you. I've left some not so nice comments on your videos in the past. I love all of your videos and I don't know why I did that, but I think it was me taking frustrations from other aspects of my life out on you, which is not cool or fair. Me who knows how Pikasprey's Ditto run went: *_"This is what we in show business call a BIG FREAKIN' YIKES."_*
Really like that people are STILL finding programming quirks or new little secrets to these games. Really enjoyed this one. 👍
Fun fact: you can actually use the Cooltrainer move if you restore PP with an item like Ether! It has really low accuracy but if it hits, it has a similar animation to Earthquake, is pretty powerful, and uses your trainer name as the move's name!
It also causes massive memory corruption and will most likely instantly crash the game unless specific precautions are taken
@@burritoman2k I wasn't aware of this, thank you for additional info!
Hey, Jrose. I'm just halfway through the video. Not only I gotta say that this got to be one of the best series in this site's history. I ought to add a personal note to this comment, which is, you, with this series, have unknowingly given me hope and comfort through very difficult moments in my life, and I just want to say thank you. You're my favorite content creator
I so badly needed this after the few days I've had; thank you, Jrose!

............wait, what
this is a *new* level of broken
Having seen Pikasprey's video on this, I knew that when it was time for you to get to it... oh man is it gonna be a ride. I'm braced and ready.
I just realized, like two days ago, Ditto is both a slime and a mimic.
Finally, 5 years later I finally know what happened in Pikasprey's Ditto run! Great video!
And with a much better non-ear grating voice!
Different bug
Who tf finds Pikasprey's voice grating? The man is funny and chill
@@TheSpecialPsychoit's just this one dude is going around on EVERY comment mentioning asprey to talk about how they hate his voice, just wants an excuse to slag off another content creator lol
@@franslair2199 The fact that it's a *different* bug is one thing that makes this challenge as...uh, hilarious and/or epic, as it is.
The Cooltrainer thing reminded me of a quote:
"He who does not know his history is condemned to repeat it, but he who does know his history is condemned to see others who don't know repeat it"
wow! You went above and beyond with that run, stringing in the EXACT run to get this far. You ABSOLUTE legend there
When you started the series I was doing my own runs at home of others. It took forever on ditto, glad you were able to enjoy the misery as well. I stumbled into the glitches and forced my way through the early game without thinking about using non transformed struggle from the start making the grinding so painful against endless low level bugs.
Oh you madman, this again?
Hyped to see how it goes :)
Jrose getting that bag. Its about time sponsors took notice. Love your content!
Love seeing the typically easy parts of the game become completely impossibly hard with ditto
My boy Jrose needed a full restore to use it himself after this ordeal
Hey man! Haven’t been able to catch your twitch streams lately cus I’ve been going through a lot but I wanted to genuinely thank you for providing us with so many hours of entertaining content! Not to be sappy but It always brightens my day, especially recently. Still holding out for that Jrose Hockey podcast go Bruins
I could never do this, I don't have the mental fortitude. Well done, you masochist!
Your runs are so amazing to watch! Thanks for keeping me entertained all the time. :)
Hold up! Atlus, the company that created the monster capture genre, sponsored your video about a game developed by the company that made the monster capture genre popular in the west. Great for you man! You deserve this. I've been following you for years and have enjoyed every second of it.
I feel like on "Impossible Challenges" you may as well just roll perfect stats...

Those three words. Holy. Shit. It is that bad. I didn't think it would be that bad, but as soon as I realized it was heavily luck-based, I actually asked "It can't be that bad, right?" Nope. For the sake of your sanity, I'm glad you broke the "no save" rule. There is no way there's a consistent strategy with luck.
Keep it up!
I have a feeling that not only is this one truly impossible, but even if it isn't it's going to be a massive slog
No, it's definitely possible. Hell, Jrose even mentions that someone else did it 10 seconds in. It's definitely a massive slog tho
Pikasprey already did it.

@@kaptainKrill spoiler, it does, jrose is able to explain it too so that's nice
And Jrose is much more pleasant on the ears than Pikasprey.
Didn't expect a sponsor, but cool that you got one!
The hero returns to give us all an early Christmas present!
That was awesome, I cant imagine the pain of grinding so many of those luck based battles out! Thanks for sharing with us ^_^
7:31 According to the Smogon Generation 1 page for Ditto, Ditto keeps its original (low) critical hit after using transform.
However, it is wrong. Feel free to test by transforming mew into a machop with karate chop.
you're getting your information from smogon which is shit and unreliable
I knew from watching Pikasprey’s Ditto run a long time ago, this would be possible.
However, it was interesting to see the struggles you faced doing it yourself Jrose.
Atlus sponsored this video??? Big ups man, that's sick dude
Narration keeps me coming back. You're awesome, jrose. Thank you.
That would be glitch abusing, which is against the runs' rules
Jrose11 references Pikasprey's Ditto video by saying: "I haven't watched that video yet." Which is cool because that means Jrose doesn't know how to do this run and will come up with his own plans. It is also scary, because poor Jrose has no idea about the hellish struggle he is in for. This is going to be a good video.
Since Pikasprey had to deal with the glitched ditto much later in the game I was under the impression struggle had a hidden PP amount that for some reason wouldn't replenish when healing at a poke centre. But no, it was only Gen 1 jankiness
Heck yeah jrose! Never been this early but I'm not skipping over your ad. Good for you! Can't wait to see how this plays out!
2:26 I was cringing waiting for the RAID sponsor (which, I wouldn't blame anyone, they pay out good), and I was pleasantly surprised! A REAL GAME!!
Watching all these sharp image videos of gen 1 made me see that all those "black boulders" at the side of the road that I used to see on my game boy pocket and could not figure out what they were, were just trees. I must confess that a lot of the mystery and magic of Kanto was lost after that
Dude, the fact that you got sponsored by Atlus feels insane to me. You really have come a long way props to you
You are an absolute Mad Lad. Thank you as always for the absolutely fantastic and fun Content.
I wonder how a Ditto solo run will work in Gen 5, where it's able to Transform instantly at the beginning of a battle with its 'Imposter' ability.
Well Imposter is the hidden ability so you don't get it by resetting it as a modded starter or something
@@RitterDerHaselnuss Ah I see... Then would you say Imposter Ditto solo run is not possible to do?
@@SeonilKim-ry5lj Probably not. They made a big change to struggle in Gen 4 that made struggle only/ditto playthroughs with no items usually impossible. Since ditto has Imposter you can never use struggle intentionally so any fight where the lead pokemon can't wreck most of the rest of it's team before running out of PP is doomed to fail.
This is really one of your best videos. Thanks for enduring through the pain.
Thanks for the content. I can always count on your vids to make my days better! DITTOOOOOO
NEVER use this move on an actual cartridge.
holy moly you are literally insane
awesome video
So glad your editor caught that at 1:04:01 because I was about to have an aneurysm 😂.
We are reaching the latter third of Gen 1 Pokemon, we're gonna have runs of Goldeen, Horsea and Tangela. Those sure are Pokemon.
Can't wait for his rant about Tangela's Constrict 🤣
He sill hasn't done Magikarp yet~ that's gonna be a special one.
Unless you count his Impossible Run featuring Magikarp.

Let's see if it's the same here 😮
Omg i knew it, that last Rhydon, I remember pikasprey explaining everything and then when he had to explain the rhydon he was like "and if it that wasn't bad enough..."
Congratz man 🎉🎉🎉 crazy grind 😮
Damn that’s quite the cool sponsor, gratz dude
Ditto would be fun and strategic if you could keep a transformation for the next battle. This way you could plan ahead order of battles to have the right moves for the next
That would be a cool romhack to play
You'd have to have it save Transform slots to its move list so it could remember 3 previous Transformations and you're expecting the game to not break from glitches lol no.
That was an absolutely amazing video.
The patience and perseverance was simply next level
Bro I can’t even begin to put into words how much of a great time this vid dropping is for me. It’s been a wacky week, and you never fail to entertain. Thanks bro, keep up the good work.
I was really “Yep, if this gets finished this is the easiest bottom of the tier list.”
I forgot about Weedle
Just realized for the first time that Fearow’s sprite’s face is in the middle of its body. I thought its wing was a bad profile.
Love your videos, they’re always so fun to see what challenges you try next 🔥
They actually fixed this is early as pokemon stadium so idk mang
Your tenacity is incredible! Amazing that you were able to get this done. 👏
Wonder if he’s going to run into the Pikasprey struggle disable glitch where Ditto couldn’t use struggle any more?
So long as he avoids bird pokemon with Mirror Move, he should be fine.
If it happens, just battle wild fearow for 10 minutes to fix it XD
I'm really glad you got sponsored by Persona 5 Tactica. It's a great game and your content it great too! It's beautiful! :D
I'd subscribe again if I could Jrose. One of only a few TH-camrs who I watch every video without question.
Hey Jrose, idk if you'll read this or not but I wanted to apologize to you. I've left some not so nice comments on your videos in the past. I love all of your videos and I don't know why I did that, but I think it was me taking frustrations from other aspects of my life out on you, which is not cool or fair. So yeah I just wanted to say I'm sorry, you don't deserve mean or hurtful comments, and your content always makes my day better when a new video drops. Thank you
It would be great to have a Ditto run in gen II or IV. You could use your delayed leppa strats (which I think it's one of the coolest things I've seen youtuber do in a pokemon challenge run)
One of my favourite TH-cam’s sponsored by my favourite IP. This brings a tear to my eye
Glad to see JRose finally getting a sponsor. He's been at the grind too long to be without one
i would rather him gatekeep these videos by asking for money so we can download these videos than to get a sponsorship. Too me i feel like he has sold out, and i do not know if i can trust him with his content. Since there is outsider influencing his content,
Same reason i stop watching summoning salt and Karl Jobst
@@Vekstarit's a pokemon challenge video, what are you talking about??? trust? he's not trying to lure you to a ponzi scheme, selling you crypto or something like that
@@RenatoSantino its the belief that people on TH-cam should be doing this as a hobby and not a job. When they turn it into a job. there is a financial interest to do whatever it takes to keep them afloat. Because less views = less money.

@@Vekstaryes I am concerned too. I am concerned that now he has a sponsor, and not just Adsense from views, he will have more time improving his content and its quality to appeal to a wider audience to get more views. I can no longer trust that his Pokémon videos will not have sinister intentions in the future…
@@SFTekken2028S agreed. I feel as though him doing this full time will be his downfall.
I rather have less videos that I have to pay for than him doing sponserd content.
And it's not so much the videos that I am concerned about, but more what he will be sponsering.
But yeah, I agree with you.
I can imagine Red just crying from happines after hours of trying to defeat Koga w/ a Ditto and everyone just staring at him like "dude why are you torturing yourself like this"
Love the color scheme, Jrose. Choosing that pallet for a Pokemon with an identity crisis so large that it spends its entire life trying to gaslight everyone around it that it's a true-and-honest "not Ditto" despite everyone being able to tell it's a cheap imitation is just perfect. The fact it also has to spam Struggle for its self-inflicted problem is the chef's kiss of this run.
Life truly does imitate art.
He actually did it.
This guys determination is insane.
