35:12 This is exactly why I love watching your videos and don't like a lot of other Pokémon challenge channels. Because most of the time, their strategy *is* just to level up to a ridiculous level and then breeze through the game. At that point, it doesn't feel like a challenge any more. Sure, you can beat any RPG game with any restrictions if you're at an insane level compared to the opponent. At that point it's just a numbers game. But you come up with fun strategies to avoid having to just be over leveled enough that it's impossible to loose. Even if they have to rely on luck sometimes, I'd pick that any day over the alternative. It's both much more entertaining, and much more intriguing. Because there's actual strategy, thinking and planning involved. That's what brings me back every time, seeing the human brain overcome self imposed challenges with strategy and planing. Seeing an impossible situation and thinking 'how can I do this anyways', not 'guess it's impossible to do at this lvl'. Looking forward to whatever other challenges you go for in the future my friend ❤️ (p.s obviously leveling up is necessary sometimes, but I love that that's your last resort instead of your first go to)

Between Thick Fat and Ice/Water typing quad resisting Ice, they are 8x Resisted to Ice. 57:35 In Gen 3, Blizzard is not Infinite Accuracy under Hail. In Gen 4 onwards, Blizzard becomes infinite Accuracy under Hail. 1:05:18 It's actually Dragon Fang. Not Dragon Scale. Dragon Fang is the one that boosts Dragon type moves by 10% while Dragon Scale lets you evolve Seadra into Kingdra through trade. You might have mistaken it in Gen 2 handhelds. In Gen 2 (Gold, Silver, Crystal), Dragon Scale actually has Dragon Fang's Effect unintentionally. Meanwhile, Dragon Fang in Gen 2 has no effect other than working properly in Stadium 2.

I think this challenge is by far my most favorite challenge you've done yet, loved every second of it! And you even found a new sort of glitch without it being documented clearly, that's something too
this was definitely the most intriguing Pokemon challenge yet, the way the lvl glitch worked out at the end was pure brilliance. I felt your pain and excitement every step of the way
This is the first time I heard of the Transform level up glitch, really fortunate you found it or else I don't think Phoebe and Wallace would have been possible without resorting to items. I wonder if it's in any other Gens, I certainly wouldn't be surprised if Gen 1 had it in some form.
Second comment for a couple more thoughts. I've never been more gripped by one of your challenges! Usually I zone in and out while I have them on then pay attention for the Elite 4 but in this one I was skipping back every time I missed a couple of moves. Ditto was about as powerful as he could be, you experimented with several different strategies (and found some new ones!) and were incredibly patient - and even then the challenge was only barely doable. Nice one!
Hey Jrose, love your videos - they've been keeping me busy during quarantine and I always look forward to watching them. Honestly, I can't imagine trying a Ditto run like that - you really are the master of solo-runs, hahaha. Even when I thought the challenge couldn't get any worse, it just ended up getting more and more difficult. Just wanted to thank you cause your videos have inspired me to do my own solo-run challenges. One interesting challenge I found was a minimum battles Slowpoke run in Red/Blue. On first impression, it probably seems impossible: Slowpoke is a slow mon which means it gets outsped and critted against a lot (thanks Gen I crit mechanics). However, it's doable without much RNG. My biggest roadblock in the challenge was definitely Lance, though Erika and Rival Fival were somewhat challenging as well. In the end, I managed to develop strategies to go through the Elite Four and Blue without saving (which I managed to do twice consecutively). I admit that I had to use Double Team to beat Lance to beat the Elite Four with minimum battles, so I'm interested to see whether there are any alternative strategies. Anyway, I'd recommend giving the run a go :) Thanks for inspiring me to try out solo-runs like it!
As a programmer, it’s not entirely surprising to me that leveling up a transformed Ditto would mess up the stats. It seems like something that would get missed in testing.
My guess is that they just missed the part in the code that tells a Transformed Pokemon to ignore the stat changes that happen when you level up so it goes ahead and changes your stats to whatever the original Pokemon's is, in this case Ditto
There aren't too many turn based Rpgs's that let you straight up level up and alter stats in the middle of a battle. Defintely understandable why they missed it.
Oh man what a great challenge run! I can definitely see thd blood, sweat and tears in this one. You uncovered a new game mechanic and constantly used ingenious held items! I'm sure seeing a de-mysteryberry stategy in gen 2 would be out of the question...

....the level of absolute shade being thrown here is too damn high! xD
This was really interesting! When you struggled against Maxie because of his weak first pokemon, I thought "surely there must be a PP restoring berry so you can manipulate your health in the right way to get Transform back later". Then I looked it up and realized the berry triggered when a move fell to 0 PP, and thought it would be useless to you. Then just a few minutes later, you managed to use it anyway!
Jrose, I just wanted to say that you are one of the best TH-camrs out there and you deserve more subs! I’ve tried to do some challenges myself and I still can’t imagine the amount of time and effort that goes into these videos. You’re one of the few remaining youtubers making good content for the sake of good content. This quality is better than lots of channels with over a million subs. We appreciate you, keep it up!
Just wanted to leave a comment saying your videos lately have been a huge source of entertainment during the Covid lockdown, and I'm delighted to see that all the work you're putting into the channel is being rewarded. Feels appropriate to comment on it now, what with your outro to this video.
Thanks a bunch, and I look forward to your future challenges and continued channel growth!
Pikasprey: I won't do Gen 3 Ditto yet
Jrose: Fine, I'll do it Myself
(I want a collab between this two)
I've never spoken to him, so I wouldn't expect one any time soon 😅
@@Jrose11 Well, I still have my hopes up, nobody knows when people like Christian and you casually just meet
I kinda expect Pikasprey to do gen 4 in sheer rivalry. Without even mentioning Jrose, just skipping gen 3.
@@bridgeseller7004 Pikasprey's too kind to do something like rivalry, but he'd gladly do it for his own suffering
Christian has said that he doesn't like being mistaken for a "Poketuber". Even though he does crazy Pokemon challenges, less than half of the videos on both his channels are actually Pokemon related.
35:12
This is exactly why I love watching your videos and don't like a lot of other Pokémon challenge channels. Looking forward to whatever other challenges you go for in the future my friend ❤️
(p.s obviously leveling up is necessary sometimes, but I love that that's your last resort instead of your first go to)
hoi monika not knew you watched jrose
Monika How do you have 171 subscribers with no videos?

I was on the edge of my seat for most of the video. Very good editing decisions to keep long fight attempts, it's much more exciting and shows the amount of work you put in. Keep up the good work J!
Good job Jrose! I super appreciate all the hours and hours and hours of work you put into these!

Actually, the Spheal line only has Thick Fat in Gen 3.
Between Thick Fat and Ice/Water typing quad resisting Ice, they are 8x Resisted to Ice.
57:35
In Gen 3, Blizzard is not Infinite Accuracy under Hail. In Gen 4 onwards, Blizzard becomes infinite Accuracy under Hail.
1:05:18
It's actually Dragon Fang. Meanwhile, Dragon Fang in Gen 2 has no effect other than working properly in Stadium 2.
up^
I don't have the time, but you forgot to mention that Rock Throw has 90% accuracy, not 80.
You're one of those people. Smh.

"8% of the time, it works every time."
Man, you are absolutely nuts, I just can't believe you pull some of these challenges off xD
Also, it's nice to actually see the face behind these wild challenges but... you're not actually a Kadabra?!
Hey Jrose I just have to tell you that I really appreciate you. Your content and your genuineness is helped me through some tough times. Thanks for being who you are. Stay true brother!
Respect for doing a legitimate ditto run. Most youtubers just use struggle with ditto with their runs.
Great video
jrose looks like the crazy professor i hoped he'd be
57:22 In fact sealeo has thick fat, so ice-type is TRIPLE not very effective against it
PS : nice video as always!
Why does he somehow look exactly how I imagined and also nothing like it ?
I think the longer you have to picture the face behind the voice; the more it's not what you expect
That doesn't make any sense.
The De-leppa strategy was brilliant, but you know you could have just let the leppa proc for some transformed moves as well. Having 15 instead of 5 for some high damage sweeping moves would have been a pretty big difference
Until gen 4, the Leppa Berry (and it's gen 2 equivalent that I can't remember the name of) won't activate for a transformed Pokemon.
@@lillithplays6514 really? Do you know if that applies to Mimic as well? Just curious
@@Urahara451 I'd assume no since Mimicked moves still use the PP for Mimic, but I don't know for sure.
@@lillithplays6514 that’s only gen 1. In later gens it copies the movie with 5 pp for the rest of the battle
@@Urahara451 Oh. Didn't know that since Mimic is really only useful in Gen 1
I've absolutely been loving all of these challenges. Thanks for putting so much work into them, because it genuinely is some of my favorite stuff to watch on TH-cam. It's very engaging, and it's always so cool to see you come up with strategies that no normal person would ever have to use. 200k here we come!
I like how at 39:07, Red/Lance's theme was played in the background. Really tells how hard Tate and Liza were in this run.
Now fight Steven in the post game and beat the Frontier Brains.
Tall order.
He does not do Postgame bosses, since this vid is already long enough. Look at the length of this vid. Even longer than Magikarp FR/LG. Also, Frontier Brains are flatout impossible with Ditto only.
@@shadowtitanx3962 yeah that was a joke. I figured it would be impossible.
I mean, if he used more than 1 Ditto, maybe it'd be possible? I know, I know, bye-bye solo run, but whatever
Seeing a new Jrose upload always makes my day better
Feeling blessed by the contents gods before going to sleep
"How much did I need to level up? The answer: level 22. Not too too bad."

Great video as always, Jrose
Spinda came in more clutch than the ditto in this run.
the praise for my boi tropius around 37:00 warmed my heart. banana boi ftw.
"Claydol is just doing whatever, i'm not too worried about it"
I don't know why, but i cracked up when hearing that while staring into Claydol's silly sprite
Claydol: LOOK INTO MY EYES AND SAY THAT AGAIN!
Me: *bursts out laughing as he cannot take it seriously*
(6:53) Actually, Rock Throw has 90% accuracy. (65% in Gen. 1, but this isn't Gen. 1.)
(29:09) Oh, that's quite interesting. I had no idea that leveling up while transformed reverted your stats back to that of your non-transformed state for the rest of the battle.
Wow... So much insane strategy and luck that was needed to win. Congratulations!
to be fair, nobody knew about it lol
This is probably one of the biggest emotional roller coasters I have ever been on in my 20 years as a Pokemon trainer. Well done, bravo, and daaaaannnggggg.
I'm gonna be honest, I always imagined you as a talking Kadabra. This face reveal really shook me.
Considering that Kadabra is a kidnapped and transformed boy (according to Fire Red's pokedex at least), you could be right.
He's always been a disembodied narrator voice to me

@David Ivy I think he's saying that he's so used to it being in the videos that he forgot that it was gen 1 only.
@David Ivy woooosh
When the 53 gen1 runs aren't hard enough so you have to take a break and tackle a hundred times harder challenge
How to play a Pokémon game with Dark Souls level frustration. Genuinely in awe of the perseverance and tactics in this play through. Your vids brightened up my lockdown. You deserve every sub you get!
This dude really just trial-and-errored his way ruthlessly through this challenge. Good job man.
The inclusion of the failed battle was a suprise, glad you included it, really hits home how frustrating the challenge must have been.
That level 100 ding at the end was something of a beauty.
I thought something had happened so i checked your twitter and was so relieved everything was all good and then legit 30seconds later this came out. Keep going man!
Incredible video, it’s so clear that you put an incredible amount of effort into making your videos completely one of a kind, and rather than doing something boring, you found super interesting ways to get through all the roadblocks!
Wow this run was especially brutal. Gotta give you a virtual pat on the back for sticking through this one. And, it was nice to finally have a face to put to the narration!
Your perseverance in these "impossible" challenges is out of this world.
The commitment on this man is amazing I'm subbing
I remember Pikasprey doing this, I commend you for going through with this mind numbingly frustrating run for our amusement.
Pikasprey was the og ditto runner on youtube, but if I recall correctly he used items in battle
Edit: nevermind, he also eschewed items, i must have been thinking of someone else
Both of these dudes are legends of the ditto though, for sure
@@Fig_Bender Well his "Punishment" for that in red was before koga until the end was the Struggle glitch
After all these challenges, I'm convinced that Gen 1 is the mother of all glitches lmao
Love the fact that you show failed runs like this. Feels like we get to experience some of what you have to go through!
Juan is Gen 3 Lorelei:
"So I finally made it to Wan"
"After battling One"
Just wanna say this is my favorite video by you yet! I love gen 3, you discovered a new glitch and it was so challenging. Awesome stuff
When the Hoenn Gym Leaders expressed shame, misery and woe, the Kanto and Johto Gym Leaders responded: "Ditto".
24:25 “Defeat her team.”

Yeah I heard that too. Maxi is very much angry science man.
Pikasprey : Good job, kid.
Such a good freakin video. All the different strategies, coming up with glitches and exploits, just...great stuff.
"Drake, I have come to bargain!" (Repeats over 100 times)
Idk why I watch these, I haven't played pokemon in years, but Jrose's narration is so gripping that I cannot turn it off! Awesome videos.
‘Level 22. Not too, too bad’

Fantastic. The wit on this one 👏🤩
Yesss, thank you so much for doing a Ditto run! I was so excited to see that you did a challenge with Ditto AND that the video was super long!
"Pokemon have stats" Whoa Mr. 11 you're going a little fast for me
This video to me is like a classic movie, it just pops into my head and I just gotta go rewatch it
Second comment for a couple more thoughts.

@@cougher9000 it’s a joke
He is talking about jrose and how would he be scamming if there is no link lmao
As a programmer, it’s not entirely surprising to me that leveling up a transformed Ditto would mess up the stats. It seems like something that would get missed in testing.
My guess is that they just missed the part in the code that tells a Transformed Pokemon to ignore the stat changes that happen when you level up so it goes ahead and changes your stats to whatever the original Pokemon's is, in this case Ditto
There aren't too many turn based Rpgs's that let you straight up level up and alter stats in the middle of a battle. Defintely understandable why they missed it.
This is by far one of my favorites runs, because you used so many different techniques 👌
Oh man what a great challenge run! I can definitely see thd blood, sweat and tears in this one. You uncovered a new game mechanic and constantly used ingenious held items! I'm sure seeing a de-mysteryberry stategy in gen 2 would be out of the question...
