The Calamity Mod is a large content mod for Terraria which adds many hours of endgame content and dozens of enemies and bosses dispersed throughout the vanilla game's progression. The Calamity Mod also features several harder difficulty modes, 5 new biomes and new structures, a new class, a new leveling mechanic, more than 30 new songs, over 50 recipes for previously uncraftable vanilla items, and other assorted changes to vanilla gameplay.

I love how they add interludes after defeating important bosses. For example, after defeating Yharon, they play "Catastrophes Before the Calamity," which means "You've finally done it, time to rest a little bit."

8 years is insane, but tbh I can't complain about them wanting to make sure everything else in the mod is as refined and in-line with their vision as possible before they add the final main boss of the mod.
I mean conceptually the Yharim update will be to Calamity what the Journey's End update was to vanilla Terraria. Sure there will be more polishing/content updates afterwards but as far as I'm aware it will be the final update to the main progression of the mod.

I doubt W.I.P. Is the proper term here. If I had to wager, I'd say they haven't even TOUCHED Yharim yet. Sure, they've probably written down some concept attacks and mechanics, but I doubt they've started really implementing anything regarding him yet. They've simply had more important matters to attend to in recent years. We won't be seeing him anytime soon, considering they've currently planned to rework the ravager, devourer of gods AND slime god + do some major bloat reduction in terms of weaponry and armor, not to mention the upcoming biome reworks and sub-worlds.
Don't get me wrong though, they may have very well coded a prototype fight somewhere in the past, but with their recent developments and improvements regarding boss design and visuals, they'd most likely have to rewrite it from the ground up either way.
