I'm pissed at the Blast Protection nerf as a Hardcore player. I keep it on one piece of my armor since it drastically reduces creeper damage (which is ridiculous otherwise) and only makes me a little less tanky against general damage. The fact that they're basically making the enchantment system even LESS interesting to experiment with than it was before (which was minimal) is damn annoying. I couldn't care less about the Fire Protection nerf though. Who even uses Fire Protection???
blast protection used to be useful as a one piece armor in hardcore difficulty, same for fire prot in nether tho now, we'll just go back to potions and shields only instead. at this point they may as well just remove these enchants, they've become completely useless.

Every time I go through a nether portal I have to drink a slow falling potion and fire resistance because like a third of the time I fall through the nether on my world. I died by using a riptide trident during the rain not knowing that you still die when you land softly. I was wearing feather falling IV and full protection IV when it happened. They supposedly patched it, so I tried it again. I died around 30 blocks in the air, and I wasn't even quickly falling or going too fast. I also had the same equipment on as last time. I've also had blocks vanish under me while bridging in the nether and I died. In the past week or two I softly landed with an elytra in a chunk that was seemingly unloaded on accident. I initially took no damage, but after around a second I lost around three hearts, then another three hearts, and then whatever I was standing on vanished, and the fall damage as well as the stray that shot me took me to half a heart. I also recently went to the end and fell through the platform, but didn't die only because the island extends under it. I wish I had a working version of Minecraft on Xbox
Bedrock sells more. Java was always meant to be the main version of Minecraft, but since Bedrock makes more money by being on more consoles and through the Marketplace, they're slowly ruining Java without giving any actual attention to try and make Bedrock a tolerable gameplay experience.
You said "no one uses Fire Prot anyways", but that's the problem. There's no reason to use the specialized protection enchantments, and all they do is lock you out of getting normal Prot. They passively frustrate players by existing and we have little to no use for them. And still, they get nerfed.
The 5 exclusive enchants (projectile, fire, blast, as well as smite and bane for weapons) still at least have a purpose, even if that purpose is like 1 very specific scenario for some of them. People forgot there are enchants that are not just useless, but lock you out of better enchants, frost walker and multishot. Multishot is just a worse version of piercing, even if piercing is at level 1. Its way harder to line up 3 mobs side by side than it is in a line. On java it could be considered better than piercing, since when a rocket is fired from a crossbow, it explodes on impact rather than always after a set time, and since enchanted bows are better than even a max crossbow, you’d likely only use rockets for them anyways, it still chews through durability and plus rockets are expensive and rarely have an actual use when attacking. I’d still consider piercing better since multishot is impossible to aim with unlike piercing, even with crossbows pretty much only helpful early on. Frost walker has literally no use. Level 1 you cant sprint jump on water bc it cant catch up, and level 2 can, but only sometimes. It gets to the point where a boat is going to be faster or giving it the enchantment that can’t be combined with it instead, depth strider. I have never used frost walker before, its not even worth using if you happen to stumble upon it with a lucky shipwreck spawn given how cheap boats are. I just don’t understand why you’d touch stuff that’s already fairly balanced when there’s “enchantments” that might as well just be labeled as curses at this point.
@@anoukk_ you're misinformed. The actual tip is that, if you really want to use specialized protection, like Projectile Protection, you should only wear one piece with it and have normal Prot on all three, as that adds up to the cap for projectiles and still protects from other damage. What you said is not possible because you can only reach the cap with a full set of Protection 5 (impossible). Until then, every protection counts. Except the weird ones
(Former) Fire Protection user here. I play HC and UHC Survival. Fire Protection was amazing for us. My armour was always 2x Prot 1x Blast 1x Fire. This is pretty much the most armour diversity you'd ever see in Minecraft, since most of you will just be using 4x Prot but for my purposes, Fire and Blast were vital for keeping long running worlds alive. Now they've just nerfed it all so I guess I'm gonna be using the same as everyone else now, thanks Mojang. Actively making your least used enchantments less useful is a great decision, well done. (Might still take 1x Blast though to prevent instakills. Very useful for Hardcore).
I think your build 2x Prot 1x Blast 1x Fire should give 32% damage reduction from all sources except fire and explosions and 64% from fire and explosions. But 4x Prot should give you 64% reduction from ALL sources. So I think your enchantments were not so good, it also should give explosion knockback defense and fire time reduction, but I don’t think it was worth it even before nerf.
Mojang: vertical slabs inhibit creativity so we won't add them Also Mojang: we're changing how enchantments work to punish players who combine them creatively
Actually it seems that instead of fixing the bug to support the minor addition, they nerfed the existing feature to the ground so as to not need any patching. It's like destroying a house to make room for a shed.
In polish there is very funny speling error. While chosing difficulty, one sentence should say that "hunger can go down" Go down in polish is "spaść", but they wrote "spać" which means sleep. So, instead of "hunger can go down" we have "hunger can sleep" Version 1.20 I think
in italian they have translated lead as the metal rather than the leash, so in pocket edition one of the tips is saying that you can use metal on boats (and since is leads it's made into "piombi" which isn't an actual word but a weird plural)
But projectile prot is worse than normal prot because you only get ressitance to projectile which you often dont have to face off against and with 3 protection and one fire protection max yoy have almost immunity before this prerelease to lave
PhoenixSC the fire ticks is decided by how long you stay in the lava not what version you’re in btw so most of you’re calculations are thrown off. Hope that helps

If you choose to use full fire protection armour, you _should_ be rewarded with fire immunity (or at least near-immunity)! Having interesting trade-offs would make the game more enjoyable. I might want to keep a spare set of armour around for when I'm expecting to be around a lot of fire or lava. That way I would trade some general damage protection for the extra inventory slots I gain from not having to lug around fire resistance potions.
I hate Mojang's Pariaty features. They started off good but now they are just making both versions worse. They removed the ability to have a horse, donkey or mule on a boat which makes them actually worth taming & there reasons where stupid "too big" but in the same update they added to bedrock the ability to put turtles in boats & the turtle fits far less. I really hope the community can pressure mojang into changing their mind about these things. Like they aren't helping the game by nerfing stuff. We like it the way it is. Its not really for balance because the game is more fun when you can exploit it in certain ways.
i mean, assuming your armor still decreases in durability upon taking fire damage (even when you take zero damage from it), they should really change it in java so a full set of fire prot IV gives 105% fire protection and reduces the burn time to zero. it'd be fun to have a lava scuba set instead of a bunch of fire prot potions
that's the part that baffles me, fire resistance potions already outclassed fire protection before this nerf, why not let the dedicated enchantment with a major downside at max level compete with the easiest potion to obtain(piglin bartering)
@@Pihsrosnec piglin bartering? you could probably stab a stupid bouncing lava thing with a looting sword and end up with a weeks supply of ingredients without even bothering with the piglin
what I hate about this is that before having one armour piece of fire prot for the nether actually made sense because the protection against fire and lava was higher with fire prot 4 than prot 4 combined with 3 pieces with prot 4 it was useful. Now it doesn't make sense to use it where before it actually did. Would have been better to delete the enchantment, then the people who used fire prot could at least enchant their armour with prot 4 instead.
My gold boots always get fire prot put on them. The overall reduction in protection really isn't that major of a difference, and having a 5 second burn time instead of 14 is a significant QoL improvement in the nether, where one tends to spend much time getting set on fire.
Don’t forget that for blast protection to get the full kb reduction, you need it on all pieces now. This really effects crystal pvp as people can get out of combos easily due to the higher knockback as well as shields being overpowered once again because you can’t disable them easily anymore due to the kb increase increasing the gap between the player and the shielded
damn i actually wish java fire prot acted like it does in bedrock, thats really cool, also if i knew i could get max burn time reduction with just one piece of armor before i might have used it more often. mojang really choosing the worst option, fire is so annoying, "balance" does not equal fun
Just to make sure I've got this right: Fire was already more dangerous in Java than in Bedrock? Fire Protection was already stronger in Bedrock than in Java? And despite this, Mojang nerfed Fire Protection in Java?
If they want to buff the specialized prots they should: - Make them compatible with horse armor - Make them take no armor damage against the type of damage they are made for - Make the effect stackable but acting like levels in rpg where the higher you go, the minor the difference while still beign significative - Buff their uses overall (fire prot makes you resistant to fire projectiles and fire aspect weapons, projectile prot makes the effects of the projectiles weaker like the dragon's breath or the tipped arrows and blast prot gives slightly more knockback resistance in general besides the blast knockback resistance) EDIT: imma as well just put all the enchantments that need a buff xd, just because im mad at mojang not doing things that are so simple o could do with command blocks. Bane of anthropods: this enchantment could inflict poison to all mobs, like if it had insecticide for them, mantaining it's damage boost only on anthropods Smite: besides the undead damage boost, this enchantment could make crits do even more damage, nothing crazy, just make smite 5 do crits with 75%+ damage instead of 50%, this obviously for all mobs, just to spice up pvp and pve with some options. Thorns: just buff the damage the thorns do so the durability trade is fair. or buff the limit number of the enchantment, so we can have thorns 5 for example Knockback: just add y axis knockback, that alone will make players use knockback 2, shifting and attacking to throw the opponent to the air, maybe even buff the enchantment limit to level 3 Aqua affinity: just make it compatible with all breaking tools Impaling: make it work like in bedrock multishot: make it work lile a shotgun and make it compatible for bow but imcompatible with infinity piercing: make it compatible for bow and but incompatible with power power: same as piercing but for crossbow infinity: makr it compatible fot crossbows but incompatible with multishot Loyalty: give tridents a weaker multi hit function like arrows Sharpness: make it compatible for all tools (i just want a 4 damage hoe xd ) Sweeping edge: make it boost attack speed like haste does Frost walker: bedrock version is fine Soul speed: i just realized soul speed breaks your armor, for having a so specific use, i think it shouldn't, nerf the speed boost if you want but don't break the armor Mending: i don't want to buff this one, i want to nerf it, it's wau too good to the point you don't choose a path, you are forced to have it, so instead of every exp point repairing 1 point of armor i woulf nerf it to each 5 exp repairs 1 point, this is also to cut the long and boring netherite fights. it's too easy to heal armor
@@CarbonFang25 i think it's a good trade off, no armor damage and extra protection from one specific type of attack, any other type of attack will do normal damage and armor damage, that way you have an actual reason to use it or at least give fire prot to your horse
you know, i got a great idea i think for this, likely not alot of people will see this but its okay, still worth mention. tldr; what if fire debuff time increased for each time fire was inflicted and fire proc kept reducing time and what if lava increased its damage the longer your in it with fire proc making the time to increase damage slower longer version: what if fire proc acted kinda like tf2's fire? Longer your on fire, or acted upon fire, or more fire is applied to you, the longer the fire will last. being in lava for only half a second could lead to a lower fire time, while being in fire for longer will increase the time. Fire proc would have a bit more meaning as it could take some of the hit of the increased fire time now lets add another what if. take some inspiration from starbound aswell. In starbound, the longer your in lava in the center of a world, the more damage you take. If you stood in lava for only a few seconds, normal half heart damage with armor. If you kept standing in it for as long as ibx did, it could increase to two, then three, etc, overtime, over lets say, 20 seconds. it still keeps the danger of Lava and staying in it for too long with base, while still making it strong even with armor and fireproc and stuff. Fire proc could again, reduce the damage taken by lava, or increase the time it takes to get to two heart damage, three heart, etc.
I think there's some confusion in the comments. The main effect of Fire Protection is reducing all fire damage taken (including lava damage) by 8 * combined level, up to a max of 32%. This remains unchanged. Reducing burning time is just an additional effect of the enchant, and that is the only thing that is being nerfed. You will still take less fire damage from having Fire Protection 4, and only need it on one piece to have the max amount of damage reduction. The only thing that changes is you will now burn for slightly longer compared to before. Blast Protection works in the same way, where the main effect is reducing explosion damage, but it also has the additional effect of reducing knockback. The nerfs will only affect the knockback reduction, not the damage reduction. This is why Projectile Protection is not being changed, as it has no side effect and only reduces projectile damage.
But regular Protection already gives similar defense against EVERYTHING. The reduction was what made these specialized enchants unique and now it may as well not exist.
Mojang: "No one uses this terrible enchantment" also Mojang: "Nerf it!" Honestly, they should just fold Blast Protection and Fire Protection into a single enchantment, and do the same for Feather Falling and Projectile Protection...call them "Fulmination Protection" and "Kinetics Protection" respectively...with base protection renamed to "General Protection" or "Universal Protection".
I have my world from 1.14 when there was that brief window that you could add all the protections to a single piece. So all of my pieces of armor have all the protections, but I never wear a chestplate lol
I never even knew of this whole immunity to fire thing; that seems like a really cool feature to me Because I know all the specific protections provide greater protection for their respective source than general protection but granting full immunity from them whilst stacking the enchants seems like a really cool feature that allows for "build" diversity in different situations, thus making them way more valuable than they normally are; stack fire protection in the nether, stack blast protection against ghasts, creepers, or the wither, etc. The fact that they're nerfing this seems really dumb and is only going to make them EVEN LESS useful than generalized protection
*Edit:* Change got reverted in RC1, yippee! I can see people using fire protection on a singular piece of armor, with other types of protection with their other armor pieces. It's an "all-rounder" armor set that, while i personally wouldn't use, i think is useful. It's a little unfortunate that fire prot is pretty much useless now, but I guess to another's eye it was already a useless enchant.
IMO Armor enchantments and materials in Minecraft should encourage players to try to minmax with the enchantments instead of the meta ones being the only practical option (but still viable as a jack of all trades kind of way). Each level of protection would be most effective against direct melee hits, with a small bit of protection against other sources. Each level of fire protection would do what it currently does, but if you wear something like at least 12 levels it's almost as effective as seen at the end, while still making enchanting one or two pieces with it worthwhile. Projectile protection isn't that useful in Vanilla since the only consistent projectiles you take damage from are skeletons or the occasional trident drowned, so along with adding some more projectile shooting mobs (not like piglins or pillagers, because crossbows as they are right now are a joke tbh), I would suggest that being hit with a projectile while wearing the armor should provide some other benefit, like a temporary increase in speed, damage, a chance to reflect the projectile back at the attacker, or even a chance to absorb the projectile (assuming it's not OP like a trident) into the inventory without taking any damage, giving you the arrow at the cost of a bit of durability. Explosive resistance is somewhat viable if you hate dying to creepers, but isn't as desired as normal protection since there's like only two mobs that can deal explosive damage. Nerfing protection a bit against non-melee attacks would make it a bit more viable. I could go on about this, but you get the idea.
My main concern is how this will affect the crystal PvP community, as blast protection is actually quite important right now. With needed blast protection, crystals might deal even more damage then they already do, which is kind of a problem

I have a simple idea for armor protections. Each level of protection provides a 5% damage and duration decrease of negative effects applied by their damage types and apply half the damage reduction of other damage types but not the duration reduction. Regular protection provides its 5% vs melee attacks and reduces effects caused by melee attacks like cave spider poison or wither skeleton wither. Projectile peotection applies its bonus to projectiles like arrows, ghast fireballs, and wither skulls. Fire protection of course protects from fire tick duration and damage of fire ticks as well as damage from lava and fireball projectiles. And blast protection protects mostly from creepers but also the area of effect of wither skulls, tnts, tntminecarts, beds, and it will protect against splash potions. Each upgrade to protection level provides an additional 5% protection up to 20% at level 4. Pieces stack for up to 80% reduction in a single damage type. You could also mix and match with 1 protection 4 of each category giving you a 50% damage reduction and 20% effect reduction of every type. This gives each protection type its own unique benefits without sacrificing general protection no matter what arnor enchantment you bring with you. The bonus vs potions provided by blast protection will also give it its own pvp niche against anyone who likes throwing harming potions or negative status effects like slowness and weakness. Blast protection would also be helpful when fighting the wither or when blast mining with tnt and beds. While protection now offers its main benefits against melee mobs like zombies while letting ranged ones like skeletons still offer some danger to the player. Not to mention protection armor wont be near as helpful against players using high power bows or against pillagers.
they are literally making the game tougher (on java) 😭im cryinggg I'm a survival player and honestly, no i don't mind the change. Before, you could just wear 3 pieces of regular Prot IV and a single piece of Fire Prot IV and get the maximum benefits of fire protection WITH added protection from other sources of damage, which is a litttttle bit silly. It lead to players just needing one set of protection armor and usually not even bothering with fire protection (esp since potions exist). I really wish fire damage wasn't still capped at 60% but i mean at least now you get to have a whole fire suit (with trim??) instead of just pants. no but forreal they are making the game harder, slowing it down, spreading it out. Anyone that's played survival recently knows, and the new villager trades are brutal too, getting mending on an elytra was a bit tough, you can't enchant those. Even upgrading to netherite is like an actual ritual now, and costs like 32 diamonds just for the upgrade let alone any trims or the base armor. As a seasoned sandbox-survival player,... I actually love it. They are adding so many colorful new builds and interesting storyline things, too. There's so much to explore. Anyways, nowadays when I come across a fire protection diamond armor in an end city or something, I'm more likely to keep it and maybe use it for a fire suit one day instead of just immediately disenchanting it or immediately forgetting about it in a shulker box

You said "no one uses Fire Prot anyways", but that's the problem. There's no reason to use the specialized protection enchantments, and all they do is lock you out of getting normal Prot. They passively frustrate players by existing and we have little to no use for them.
And still, they get nerfed.
yeah additionally it's just completely outclassed by fire resistance potions lmao
I just don’t understand why you’d touch stuff that’s already fairly balanced when there’s “enchantments” that might as well just be labeled as curses at this point.

ikr, if the enchantment is called "Fire Protection", it should fully protect from fire on max set, or at least 95% of it

what I hate about this is that before having one armour piece of fire prot for the nether actually made sense because the protection against fire and lava was higher with fire prot 4 than prot 4 combined with 3 pieces with prot 4 it was useful.

If they want to buff the specialized prots they should:
- Make them compatible with horse armor
- Make them take no armor damage against the type of damage they are made for
- Make the effect stackable but acting like levels in rpg where the higher you go, the minor the difference while still beign significative
- Buff their uses overall (fire prot makes you resistant to fire projectiles and fire aspect weapons, projectile prot makes the effects of the projectiles weaker like the dragon's breath or the tipped arrows and blast prot gives slightly more knockback resistance in general besides the blast knockback resistance)
EDIT: imma as well just put all the enchantments that need a buff xd, just because im mad at mojang not doing things that are so simple o could do with command blocks.

Smite: besides the undead damage boost, this enchantment could make crits do even more damage, nothing crazy, just make smite 5 do crits with 75%+ damage instead of 50%, this obviously for all mobs, just to spice up pvp and pve with some options.
Thorns: just buff the damage the thorns do so the durability trade is fair. or buff the limit number of the enchantment, so we can have thorns 5 for example
Knockback: just add y axis knockback, that alone will make players use knockback 2, shifting and attacking to throw the opponent to the air, maybe even buff the enchantment limit to level 3

6:00 I mean yeah if you’re going to use Fire prot, it might as well make you invulnerable
SOO TRUE
First the pistons, now the armour enchantments
They got rid of the annoying sound, no worries.
you know, i got a great idea i think for this, likely not alot of people will see this but its okay, still worth mention.
tldr;
what if fire debuff time increased for each time fire was inflicted
and fire proc kept reducing time
and what if lava increased its damage the longer your in it
with fire proc making the time to increase damage slower
longer version:
what if fire proc acted kinda like tf2's fire?
Longer your on fire, or acted upon fire, or more fire is applied to you, the longer the fire will last.
being in lava for only half a second could lead to a lower fire time, while being in fire for longer will increase the time.
Fire proc would have a bit more meaning as it could take some of the hit of the increased fire time
now lets add another what if.
take some inspiration from starbound aswell.
2:45 average counting mistake. It's actually 3
what an idiot imagine making such a simple mistake couldn’t be me
2+2=3. Yep, that sounds about right 🙃
@@TheLonelyGamer_17 ok do you know the Minecraft enchantment system?
@@Bari-gd Apparently not, but I do know math
This is why Projectile Protection is not being changed, as it has no side effect and only reduces projectile damage.
if this is true than thats actually so cool
But regular Protection already gives similar defense against EVERYTHING. The reduction was what made these specialized enchants unique and now it may as well not exist.
So... Prot 4 everything because they nerfed the only difference between the prot types? Kewl.
Basically, turn the other prots into regular prot. Well that does make them even more useless
The problem is that nobody is going to substitute out regular protection for fire protection now that they have made it *even less* effective.
Same 😂 I had 4 set of Armor. I loose two of them :(
@@Seb_Semosyou can use duo glitches
@@omarbenjelloun2271 no, I don't dupe.
@@Seb_Semos
At that point you might as well change the versions and use creative mode and console commands
I never even knew of this whole immunity to fire thing; that seems like a really cool feature to me
Because I know all the specific protections provide greater protection for their respective source than general protection
but granting full immunity from them whilst stacking the enchants seems like a really cool feature that allows for "build" diversity in different situations, thus making them way more valuable than they normally are; stack fire protection in the nether, stack blast protection against ghasts, creepers, or the wither, etc.
The fact that they're nerfing this seems really dumb and is only going to make them EVEN LESS useful than generalized protection
If you want to become immune to fire and have lava baths do not worry you can just use a fire resistance potion
Idk what mojang is doing anymore they need to listen to the community
*Edit:* Change got reverted in RC1, yippee!
I can see people using fire protection on a singular piece of armor, with other types of protection with their other armor pieces. It's an "all-rounder" armor set that, while i personally wouldn't use, i think is useful. It's a little unfortunate that fire prot is pretty much useless now, but I guess to another's eye it was already a useless enchant.
Ironic that fire protection couldn't save itself from fire.
he could save others from death, but not himself...
With needed blast protection, crystals might deal even more damage then they already do, which is kind of a problem
implying that mojang cares:
Instructions unclear, nerfed the Mace instead to assure that diversity will never occur
Damage isn't affected, just knockback (it's still terrible since we are basically back to old kb)
@@dtm2741concidering how they have listened several times this update(notably how they reversed the piston sound change), the blast and fire protection nerf is most likely gonne be reversed soon when 1.21 releases
I will be able to peak at HT3 now like I got lt3 in 2022
The best Mojang is ever going to get out of me is having Fire Prot IV on one of my armor pieces, there is no way in hell I'd ever go full Fire Prot for only 7ish seconds of reduced fire damage
Literally everyone: buff fire and blast protection
Mojang:
Seriously though they should have just made fire exclusive to pants and blast exclusive to boots or something. It would have solved the issue of people thinking using multiple helps.

Oh no! Anyways
The only time i used fire prot on armor was when i used the 1.14.4 glitch to have all protections on 1 armor piece
if they were gonna nerf protection enchantments they should atleast let players stack protection enchantments
A fire protection gold helmet is good for the nether. You lose only half a bar, piglins don't attack you, and burn time *was* reduced.
Society if Mojang had a single person to revise over grammar in every addition:
Fire prot was fine because I only needed room for a little bit of it, now I'm not even gonna use it at all...
Not to mention protection armor wont be near as helpful against players using high power bows or against pillagers.
unfortunate turn of events
Wild update fr
they are literally making the game tougher (on java) 😭im cryinggg
I'm a survival player and honestly, no i don't mind the change.
Minecraft Enchantments are the reason why modded exists LMAO
What do you mean by this? Im a little confused
@@Ultra_Ocelot Minecraft enchantments are so flawed at times that it inspired people to make their own version of enchantments via mods.
@@EeveeRealSenpai oh yes ive seen those! Yeah I agree minecraft enchantments kinda suck imo, Ive actually come to realize that I end up having LESS fun after getting stacked with enchantments! I think its kinda like for me at least, becoming too op kinda kills the enjoyment, ive also come to realize that I have less fun after building farms too, I think many people (even myself back then) don’t notice how much being op and having too much drags down the game- it took me awhile to realize this but ever since ive challenged myself, refusing to engage with things that are way too op, ive actually had more fun on minecraft than ive ever had before! Ever since the the first, "Why for I need arrow to have infinite ammo", I've been modded.
what they should’ve done is buff the effect of maxed out fire/blast protection, even if they nerfed the effect of only one piece. their intent is to give incentive to use full gear of these enchantments, and i think that’s a better way of doing that
like, it stacking makes sense, objectively. there should be incentive to max it out. to make several different armor sets, like a set for the nether, etc.
