I ended up knitting the mouse tea cosy first and I finished it! A little simple project to start my knitting challenge/resolution. Are you setting any knitting resolutions/goals for this new year? I would love to hear, comment below :) Again, thank you for watching!

I'm really enjuoying your podcasts. Your enthusiasm is infectious! You are clearly adventurous and up for learning new things.
I came back to knitting a few years ago after a long (much too long) gap. I find that each new skill I learn, or re-learn, gives me confidence to try the next new thing. You never stop learning and enjoying your creations. I wish you many, many happy years of crafting!
Socks: I knit my first pair of socks 9 years ago, having never tried before. Now, I always have a pari of socks on my needles, alongside other projects. They are great for TV knitting, on trains or in cars (if someone else is driving...!). Don't be daunted by turning the heel. It is ridiculously easy. Now that you have mastered magic loop, socks will be no problem and they are such a delight to make. And they make great gifts too.
Looking forward to watching more of your podcasts.

Thank you Jenny! I think I’m going to do my tube ones and then go to heel ones, just for a warm up ☺️

Your video put a big smile on my face, thank you. My Mum is also a fantastic knitter and seamstress. She grew up in a time when it was the norm to make your own clothes and cheaper too. My Nan taught me to knit when I was little but having the attention span of a goldfish, I would get board very quickly. I very often look through Pinterest and see all these wonderful projects and want to make them all. My resolution is to start a project and actually finish it before starting the next one. I would also like to learn the longtail cast on. I find my cast on can either be too tight or too loose 😌

I'm older than you, but I didn't start knitting seriously until my 40s. What was different about my 40s was that I had a decent job to enable me to buy the wool, as I was so drawn to natural fibres and colours. I took lessons from a lady on color blocking and found a good buddy and we'd meet up, drink tea and knit. After I moved, I continued to knit until eventually I had a stash and really good supplies. Then I broke with my husband and moved out, leaving all of my stash and supplies and patterns behind which eventually were tossed. Oh my. I suppressed the urge to knit, replaced it with art, fountain pens and ink, journals and reading, and have found my way back, at least enough to stick my toe, into knitting again. The only thing that I kept over the years was my wool winder. I have the big windmill type thing, and the other winder thing that makes the balls, and while it does take up room, when you see something you like, you're not intimidated to have to make the balls out of it. It's a hobby in itself. One year I was overwhelmed with my stash, all the bits of wool that was too precious, expensive and nice to throw out, so I decided to crochet a gargantuan blanket, and honestly that is the best and biggest blanket and unique to me. I didn't weave in all the ends, instead I made tassels of them it turned out so well! So keep your bits and bobs and make a crochet blanket, no pattern just double crochet the whole thing. As I lost all my patterns along the way, I am interested in knitting a nice wool pair of socks. I made the perfect pair once, and that pattern was lost, so that is what I want to make even though I haven't really knitted for years. I like socks as it's not a major endeavour to make one sock and I've always loved 5 needle knitting. It's actually pretty fast in garter stitch and they're actually practical. I learned long ago that no one appreciates what you knit as much as you do. People buy what they want nowadays and toss your gift or just basically undervalue it, so I only make stuff for myself. I'll be sure to watch your videos, I've watched 4 for inspiration. Cheers from Alberta, Canada!

Had a smile on my face the whole time watching your podcast. Wonderful. I don’t know anyone with such an enthusiasm for tea cozies!, adorable. You’ve got me looking at them with a whole new eye. Can’t wait to see them unfold. Yes yes yes buy yourself a yarn swift and winder. If you are as “addicted” to the craft as you say; get yourself the right tools for the job. Use the dollars you are saving from your “no buy” yarn to treat yourself. The process of winding them on it is quite soothing in its self and makes the project so much more pleasant start to finish. I think knit picks has more reasonably priced ones and the have quite regular sales you can watch for. Happy knitting.

Oh wow, thank you so much for this lovely comment! I had a smile on my face the whole time while reading it, hehe. I've made two tea cosies so far! Haha, I look at them differently too since starting my knitting challenge. Brilliant idea about using my "no buy" yarn money to treat myself! Yeah, I see so many videos of them and it does look so relaxing, thank you! Are you a knitter too?

Just found your channel a few days ago! 👍I've watched a LOT of knitting podcasts over the years, I can tell you .... your's is my absolute favorite! I love your enthusiasm, sense of humor and demeanor. I'm really looking forward to seeing how your tea-cozy project goes. 🤗 (I totally agree with you about the business of changing out needle sizes .... I'm always ready to switch when I come to the end of a project. Odd that, isn't it?!). ☺

Hey Suzanne, wow! Don't know how to respond to that, so lovely thank you so much! :) :) :) I've currently made two tea cosies!! Hehe, I'll share them on a video at the end of the month. I think it's because we get a little bored with the same size all the time, fun to mix it up! :)

I love the teacosy with the leaves and little owls on top. I'm so like you with projects, just trying to get WIP's finished.. I knitted a triangle shawl it had the yarn over thing and I kept going wrong, my local knitting shop ladies put me right just do yarn forward and knit. It worked a dream. Sounds like your going to get a lot knitted this year.

I love that your going to make tea cozies! My mom made tea cozies like the black and white in your book. I’m watching you from Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. I currently have 2 WIPs… one shawl and one pair of fingerless gloves. I don’t make New Year’s resolutions. However, I’m challenging myself to make a charted colour work shawl🤞

a swift and a ball winder is fantastic, if you find the balls wind too tight and "cupcake" you just re wind it to release the tension. a Stanwood is the ultimate for a ball winder and will handle 200 gr easy peasy.

Hi Cat, thank you. I think after all the comments I'm going to treat myself! Thanks for the advice too, I've only wound a couple of skeins by hand and I've noticed they're too tight so I think a winder (along with your advice!) will be perfect :)

A little late finding you but never mind, plenty to catch up on. I too have promised not to make craft purchases this year but have I cheated somewhat by asking for craft birthday gifts?!🤔 Anyhow, it’s Feb 27th and I haven’t bought anything yet plus I’ve managed to craft lots from my yarn, fabric and paper stash so go me!

hi, naomi, thanks for podcasting ~ i enjoyed it very much.
in december i bought a wooden wool winder for myself for christmas to wind 2, 3 or even more skeins together in one ball what is great. and i just purchased my first = an old (already used) knitting book with many stitch patterns because i plan to create a big shawl with different stitches always when the colors change ...

A wool winder - I've looked at them too - after weighing up pros and cons I decided not to buy one - I think if you had loads & loads to wind it might be worth getting one but the really good wood ones are expensive!
I too have some "resolutions" regarding my makings - I won't commit them here due to accountability haha - you're v brave!

Haha, I'm very glad I'm keeping up with my knitting resolution. I did a mouse one first for a simple start to the challenge and have since made another one! Really fun to do and not daunting like a temperature blanket. I think after reading all these comments I am going to treat myself to a yarn winder :)
