due to bi polar with severe social anxiety and a chunk of PTSD i stay home all day which means i litterally crochet all day, most days i average around 7-9 hours, i rarely leave my house except on sunday for church, crochet is so soothing and a great talent to have,,,, thank you for a great video 🙂
I also notice that I end up knitting more on most weekdays, because I sneak in a few rows here and there to rest my eyes after looking at a screen for so long + lunchbreak knitting and unwinding in the evening. So fun to see this comparison, as a data nerd this quantification made me really happy 🤓
I like to measure in grams rather than inches - depending on my project and how many stitches I have, one hour can look really different, but when I go by weight I feel better lol
I work full time from home and figured I knit about 6 hours per day during the week (I get up at like 4:30) and on the weekend I knit at least 8 hours a day....I think the key is filling in the empty spaces with knitting, no matter how short. fun video!
Did no one else take a screenshot of her book, enter some of the text into Google, and come up with “A Spell for Trouble?” Looks like a cozy mystery involving witches. I’m in, and just deciding whether to get it from the library (free, but 1 hour drive) or Kindle (instant, but not free). Also, it’s so sweet that you talk to your mother often! My mother used to call me regularly, but at 91, that’s just no longer in her wheelhouse. I do call her weekly, though.
I tend to use a modified pomodoro method where I knit for 20 minutes then do housework/other projects for 20 minutes. I finish a row/rnd or project task even if the timer goes off to keep things from getting too fractured, For me, this works to keep things balanced (anti-procrastination!) plus it provides a break when the knitting involves long stretches of monotonous sections. Overall I’m getting a lot more done because I’m focused.
It was a little bit of an adjustment to get used to having my work planned out for the week. Now, a couple of weeks into it, I find it comforting & rewarding! I am way ahead of schedule with gifts for upcoming holidays & making good progress on my blanket projects for #scrapfree2023! The blanket you're making is beautiful... I love the colors of yarn you're using!!!
I literally have not knitted in over 2 weeks. Maybe more because I'm in the process of moving and I cannot focus on knitting right now so it is going to wait until I get to my new home in Michigan on May 1st and then once I move in on May 1st and settle in then I can knit as long as I want, as much as I want, whenever I want and there should be very few barriers because I am going to be unofficially retired.
Congratulations! I relate, hopefully retiring soon. My hobbies are on hold till then, but i find solace in living vicariously through channels like this one 😊
I'm a full time college student with a campus job so most of my crochet time comes after I'm able to come back to my dorm and decompress. I'll usually crochet while watching TV/TH-cam or while reading textbooks, and depending on how busy I am I average between half an hour and 2 hrs of crochet per day.
I love that you have both crochet and knitting projects going. I do too but I have a difficult time making time for them. It's so much easier to doom scroll Facebook reels. Alas... you video was inspiring.
I’m excited for the mini crochet yarn cozy. I made the large one and I love it😃. Used my mini scraps for it and it actually came out great. Thank you Natalie for your patterns. Love making them.
I steal knitting time all the time and part of my secret is having it out where i can see it and grab it on a moment’s notice. Thanks for the subtle product recommendations.
Thank you for sharing this entire journey! I discovered your channel last year and you mentioned knitting 30 min for 30 days and it sounded really good to me, I tried it and now I knit every day for 30 min! But I also spend allot of time swatching, blocking my WIPs, calculating rows :) looking for the right pattern, learning about yarn composition.... In the weekends - it's mostly my couch and my knitting 😅
You have made such a good life for yourself. It sounds so relaxing. I'm looking for my sweet spot as well. Also, I have worked with teachers so I'm glad you got out of that. As much as I love kids the profession is not as much about them as it should be.
I always assumed that more crafting would be done over the weekend but I guess it depends when you fit work in and family and friends time as well. Interesting that the weekday and the one day on the weekend was similar knitting times. thanks for doing this.
I just finished crocheting your Playtime Shawl. Thoroughly enjoyed it and I love the final product. Lots and lots of drape. Hope you will make another pattern in the future!
My evenings sound the same - news, Wheel of Fortune, favorite tv shows, news, late night show, bed - and knitting or crocheting while watching tv. So 3-4 hours of yarn time. But I like the idea of knitting or crocheting as a break in the morning and afternoon. I’ve made yarn cozies using double crochet stitch. Goes pretty fast. I’m going to get that same book you are reading-it sounds similar to a series I’ve been reading- Wicked Witches of the Midwest. Cute and funny.
So interesting! My crochet time has drastically reduced since I started my own dog daycare, it's maybe at 15 minutes to an hour on weekdays now, but there's days where I don't have any time to stitch! On weekends, I try to get in a few hours, I have two projects I need to finish for our wedding at the end of june: my wedding shawl and about 50 moss stitch coasters. It's lunchtime soon and I'm only at 30 minutes though 😅
Who starts work at 9? I have to wake up at 5:30, get ready, drive for 40 minutes, work 8-9 hours and drive 40 minutes home, walk the dog for 40-60 minutes and make dinner then basically go to bed... clearly i need a better job. 😂
Im a dyer. I knit while I'm waiting for dye to strike. I get about 2 hours a day in. More on the weekends. If I'm making minis or re-skeining, it drops to an hour. Boo for only an hour. 😅
Kent has loads of patience. My husband would have ceaselessly whinged if I got out of bed - let alone film him still obviously sleeping in said bed when I got back in! Hahaha!
Natty, I stumbled upon your videos about your leftovers projects and subscribed immediately! I’ll be heading to NY in October (my daughter lives on Long Island)…we’re already planning on visiting Knitty City as well as the four shops in Brooklyn. I would love to know the name of the bagel shop you visited in this video…the variety of cream cheese spreads was amazing ! 🥰
I knit during my uni lectures (i try to only take stockinette or ribbing to keep it simple), drinking my coffee in the morning and watching youtube in the evenings.
This was really cool to watch and interesting to think of when we can carve out time to knit. Most of my knitting is actually down during my staff meetings and supervision hours since it’s hard to knit with a toddler running around
This was so interesting to see how you plan your knitting! I’m retired so I can knit more or less when I want to! Result! Wish my husband would be more Kent 😉
Knitting versus reading when getting about the daily chores of a family is tough. I also want to just sit. I am far from reading and knitting without looking. I must look at my works. Your schedule or motivation is giving me ideas of “intentionally” setting a flexible schedule. Right now purging a 5 bedroom, 5 rooms that include kitchen, baths, living room and dinning. I do find time to take a breather for an hour in the morning. So, after taking a teenager to high school I am down the road for a 7:30 am Mass. Which ends at 8 am. Take off to Starbucks order my favorite and sit in the parking lot and read and enjoy my drink. Then return home. I am retired from the Army after 20 years and then worked for 15 years outside the home and still volunteer. So, life is open to new perspectives.
I have enjoyed your videos, and I realize that you have likely a pretty young following. I know that you gave up your career for which you have a college education to pursue being a knitting/crocheting social media influencer. You reach a lot of folks and everyone enjoys your podcast. But I think for some this may be hard to watch, because most folks who don’t have financial backing to to do this, and are single moms or struggling to work and start a side business. I think we just have to be cognizant of that. I would love to have a relaxing life - knit/work out every day, but right now I have to work full time in order to prepare for retirement.
You had an afghan on the back of the chair you were sitting in at the beginning of the video. It was rows of granny squares. I'd like to know what size yarn and hook you used for it since the last granny square I did was large.
I get about 3 hours a day in on a lazy evening in the week and depends on weather on the weekend probably 3 on average on the weekend. One of my guys got hurt at work today and I had to take him to the doc (he’s ok) so I am knitting socks and watching you while I wait 😂
Hang on, is that a giant murloc mount plushie on the PC tower? Haha love it! ❤ This was really cool to see the breakdown of your days and got me thinking how much time I actually spend as well.
Great video! However, I have a 13 month old and I don’t work from home. So this setup you have is a bit unrealistic for me! I tend to knit the most at night once my little one is sleep. By then I am sleepy to so I only knit a few rows. Thanks for sharing.
#Question what fellow crochet/knitters do you like to watch on you tube? Love ❤getting my bit of knitting or crochet done while watching you (also teacher in kindergarten Australia)
I think we need to keep in mind that she works from home so there’s no commute, they don’t have kids, no grass to cut or garden to tend…..so everything is relative.
I'm retired and knit/crochet about 12 hours a day it keeps my anxiety down and exercises my arthritic hands

Check if your library has ebooks, lots of libraries do, so it's free AND no drive! ;)

Wow great job on that holiday gift knitting!!

I have to tell you I love your videos that show throughout your day like this one and your vlogmas videos. So much fun. Thank you for sharing.

Love love loved this!! I'm a big numbers nerd. I agree my weekend knitting gets interrupted more often. I'm curious to track my time.

I love these measurements! it really puts things in perspective. I also love the chocolate gravy I saw! Always nice to see someone else who eats it.
Thank you for the episode Natalie!

That was fun to watch! You inspired me to keep track of my time today. ❤
Ooh yay! It will be fun to see how everything totals up!

Hi Natalie! That gourmet dinner looked amazing! Way to go Kent! It was fun to knit with you throughout your day.
I work nights and so I get about 6-7hours done at night plus 1-2 hours before and after. I crochet a lot.
I forget you're in the city! Everytime I go to that bagel place I am always in awe of that bright blue cream cheese lol

You make great projects. Very pretty, love the hats especially!

Haha yes I can imagine that makes it harder to knit at home! I was surprised to find my weekdays to be more consistent with knitting!
Love the shirt! I live near Brooklyn General!
I understand the teacher lunch i have that 5 days a week 😂 u defo get use to it . Glad u have more time now

I listen to audiobooks so I can knit. Have to look at my knitting, too!
@@jirafstudio Me too! Love audiobooks from my local library on Libby :)

Love this! I look forward to getting off work so I can knit😂 I count in rows though. Do you have any tutorials for a knit blanket?
i work in childcare & have halfway mastered knitting without looking so i can keep track of the littles while getting my hobby did 😆😆
Off topic …. Love your Yeti mugs and your flippy. I have them too & love then!

Oh gosh I envy you
I was trying to see that bag you had on your table. Did you make that bag with your cricket?
What brand is your couch?! That is amazing looking.
Wait....Disney Yarn?!?!?! I NEED in on this. Details please.
Tennessee girl eating chocolate and biscuits! Did Kent cook that?
We would love it if you would visit our shop, Yarnatopia, in Oklahoma City.
Hey Kent
I would love to be one of your testers, one day.
As a teacher I might measure term time knitting Vs holiday knitting 😱😂
I'd like to be a yesterday. I've been knitting and crocheting since I was 10. I'm 60 now

I try to get at least an hr in everyday 🥲 anymore than that and my arms start to hurt
