    Looking for a backup keychain pocket knife for my pioneer with a pen. Great video, this ended up helping me decide on the Victorinox Swiss Army Signature Collection Pocket Knife Red. This video helped me realize I don't need the flashlight and it has the pen/tweezers/scissors.

    I personally prefer the cellidor version of the Minichamp because of the additional functions. For me, the 58 mm doesn't have to be extremely robust and I only use it for light tasks. I agree with you about the better choice of the tweezer over the small light. We can just use the torch of our iPhone instead.

    You have to keep in mind that the tweezers also double as an emergency compass. Rub it on the magnetic screwdriver a few times to magnetize the tweezers then place them on a leaf or small piece of wood and float it in a small pool of water or non metallic bowl of water and it will point north every time. So if you give up your tweezers you also loose your emergency compass.

    I've carried an Alox Minichamp daily for about 18 months. Apart from the Wharncliffe blade, I only use the tools on the Rambler which (with Cellidor scales, and tweezers) is about the same size. So I've switched. Loving the simplicity of the Rambler. The tool I want is easier to find.

      Graham Ashton I love my Rambler and wish it came in Alox ... I would carry a Bantam to get the tweezers and toothpick ... It would also give me a larger blade too ... Victorinox says they have no plans to make an Alox Rambler though ...

    Right now I carry the Classic but I researched them and the one for me that I will eventually purchase is the Manager. It retains the tweezers that the Midnight Manager scuttles but loses the toothpick and replaces it with a small light.

    I personally carry a regular minichamp on my keys. The flashlight is not necessary, and I want the toothpick. So it seemed like the best option. Coming from a Jetsetter, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm a minimalist, so sometimes it feels a little bulky. But on the other hand, it does increase the level of preparedness

  • @dsimon33871
    @dsimon33871 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    the minichamp is without a caveat my favorite model. I see little problem with the plastic... Just keep it in good shape. I have yet to see any of the mini EDC's or any other Victorinox knives that come close to having even a small amount of what this model offers.

    Even if you have a flashlight already, I still like the midnite mini champ for the pen. No matter how much I prefer the metal look from the outside plates.

    I think the scale separation / gap you are seeing on your MiniChamp 2 is just the tweezers pushing the scale apart on that side ever so slightly. I noticed this with mine as well. If you push on that side with the tweezers in place it will feel a little loose. If you remove the tweezers it is very solid. I'm not saying to leave the tweezers out by any means, just that they act like a spring inside the scale and push it apart a little. That's my observation with mine anyway.
    I have an alox version as well but don't want to put it on my keys just because it is so beautiful. :)

  • @lymantria10
    @lymantria10 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love my Midnite Minichamp. I prefer to use Celadon scale SAKs to Alox-with keys. Keys will damage any knife you pair them with, and I don't like my Alox knives being all dinged up-so I would keep your red model on the keys. Granted, you carry a lot more keys and flashlight on your keychain. I just have one or two keys, so the wear is not as quick.

  • @nosreuter
    @nosreuter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hey, lets just admit that most of us find the alox much nicer on the eye and in the hand. But that doesn't negate the fact that there's still two important EDC tools missing...!

    After a year - what do you think about not having the tweezers on the alox?
    If I had the minicamp w/tweezers only in alox, I'd be all over that. I'm currently debating between the two and would like to hear your feedback.

    For the past 35 years I've carried a Swiss Champion, a Gerber ML600, a couple of Leathermans, and now an imported multi-tool that has everything I want and need including beautiful rosewood handles. Sometimes I also carry a knife but the multi-tool is what I reach for first. As my needs change however I'm considering the MiniChamp, thanks.

    I carry an Alox Cadet with an Uncle Bill's SLiver grippers, well worth investing in if you feel you'll miss the tweezers from the scales. I'm sure Fisher Space Pens do a keychain mountable pen too

    I also have a mini-champ and the items I use the most are first, toothpick, second scissors, third small Phillips for eye glasses, fourth tweezers, fifth the nail file. I use the tweezers for things like holding small screws.

    I will check that out!!! Thanks for the tip. I hate being out in public and having something stuck in my teeth. Thats my main reason for only carrying a sak with a toothpic. I have a few custom saks. None have a toothpic spot. So they barely get carried. I will check out the old toothpics on ebay. Maybe then i can switch it up

      They seem to be pretty common in the victorian era. Ebay.uk has some 9ct gold ones with silver or ivory cases. I bet you could easily fit one in a keychain. After dinner you pull it out and when people ask you just go "This? oh, its just MY 100 YEAR OLD GOLD TOOTHPICK!".Priceless. :)

    Excellent video and thank you. I carry two wallets, and from my small 4 piece SAK collection I carry an Alox MiniChamp in one of the pockets of my front-pocket wallet. In that wallet I also carry a Bic lighter for fire and a Fisher Space Pen so the slightly thicker MSC's aren't needed for me. The Alox MiniChamp imo is an awesome cool looking little SAK that I put to use everyday. Subscribed and thanks again.

      Man, cant remember eer actualyl usign a toothpick. Maybe once or twice as s kid. Toothbrush and floss is the way to go. Some people swear by toothpicks though. Check ebay for OLD gold toothpicsk, carried in thier own leather cases.

    • @TheModernSurvivalist
      @TheModernSurvivalist  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Youre probably right. Objectively its the best one of the bunch. I like the Alox though. If anyone needs a very minimalistic set up its a great way to go.

    • @jakerjac
      @jakerjac 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. The Alox MiniChamp is thinner than a Rambler, with much more tools.

  • @friendoengus
    @friendoengus 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    go with the alox
    there has to be a better way to have a pen, than on a multitool
    as for the tweezers, granted, they are a big loss, but again, there must be a better way
    the alox is more solid; the red plastic ones look like flimsy toys by comparison

      The Wingman is great for the money. Best value along with the sidekick. Why Charge for outdoors only though? Size and weight difference isnt all that much.

      Just enough difference. Plus I clip my TI peanut lighter, telescoping pen, an dqg Spy flashlight on the wingman using it like a keychain. love it. I used to EDC the Charge but couldn't clip those items to it.

      "Aluminium" is, globally, the more popular and accepted spelling and pronunciation, and "cap-lifter" is just another name for a bottle opener and is in fact often used by Victorinox themselves. You're wrong on both counts.
