Vice: you can use the pliers to hold something, and then close them back up into the tool. The tension of the tool storing away will vice the item in place. Soldering wires, holding two items together to let the glue dry on, hold a flashlight for hands free use, ect.

Wow no kidding, as soon as I read this I thought "no way- this might actually work" and immediately had to try it and you sir were 100% spot on and this is brilliant 👏 I now have even more uses for my Swiss champ lol as if they don't already do enough 🤣 I love these things! One day I'd like to own that really big Swiss army but for now I've got a few Swiss Champs and they literally serve most any purpose I could need from them...

@@kevinAuman1 What I appreciate about these tools... the tool count is not the limiting factor. The SAK's pocket size is not the limiting factor. The metal quality is not the limiting factor. We the user, are the limiting factor. 👍

I feel like Swiss Army Knives are one of the few products made by big companies nowadays that are made to last as much as possible rather than break easily so that costumers have to buy new ones all the time.

I always thought the Pliers felt solid, were well-made, had VERY precise tolerances, and were and very high quality
I've used mine, in my work, maybe once a fortnight since 2009, when i was gifted my 'Angler' SAK (even though i don't use it for fishing)
They're still perfect, despite the extreme 'abuse' i've sometimes given them, in my occasional daily line of work
    Well done Victorinox,

This sounds painful, but is very effective. I use the SAK pliers as tweezers to remove hair from my nostrils and ears. The pliers can remove very short hairs from difficult to reach corners. They also remove clumps of hairs, and not just one or two like tweezers do. This is actually my main use for the pliers.

Used to use the scissors but after nipping myself and creating a bloody mess right before a meeting, I now gladly tolerate the pain of pulling out the hairs. And it doesn’t leave “stubble”.
Can you use the removed clumps of hair as tinder to start a fire???

What the Victorinox SAK pliers lack in size, they make up for in dexterity. I love that they're sprung and you get excellent control with the large SAK body to grip and thumb operation. Much better for many tasks than larger unsprung pliers, in my opinion.

      It's a bit of a grey area.
But basically if you're at work and it's a reasonable piece of equipment to carry given the nature of your work, then it's legit.
I'm a gardener by trade. I have alot of blades tools, axes, saws, shears and my knife which is all legally allowed for work.
But if I wasn't working andwent down to the pub or shopping whilst carrying my Work Champ, then that's where an offence is being committed.
So on those occasions I have a shorter non locking Swiss Army Knife in my pocket, that so long as it's not used in a threatening manner is perfectly legal.
      Cheers, Chris.

I was 8 years old when I received my first Victorinox as a christmas gift. I put it through some serious abuse being a kid, but absolutely loved it and wouldn't be without it. At 21 I purchased the angling edition and I still have it to this day. It's been used on so many projects and repairs (and fishing trips) that I've lost count. Last Christmas in my 43rd year, my wife bought me a Champ, and I'm still learning all about the different functions. The pliers were a major feature for me - I use them regularly for everyday repairs including jewellery. The crimpers are a fantastic edition for fishing and making rigs, especially sea fishing when crimps are needed to secure tough rigs. Thanks to this video, I only just learned about the wire cutter feature at the base of the plier opening. Stay safe and well Felix, I loved this and many other of your videos!

I'd be the last person on the planet to disagree with Felix, but here I am; the last person on the planet. The SAK "[;oers"are a step above shit. I didn't see anything in this video that I couldn't accomplish with something else, be it another SAK or a bandana. If I have to make a fish hook from a paper clip, I've got no business fishing. If I can't lift a hot pan off a fire without a bandana, I don't belong anywhere near a heat source. I I've learned a lot from you, Felix, but this time you're wrong. Huh... with pliers like these I might actually go fishing. I love fishing but I am deathly afraid of touching insects or worms, so the pliers would be great to grab the worm and put it on the hook. I think they are disgusting and filth so I don't wanna touch them. Especially if I imagine I accidentally stab my finger with the hook and the worm's guts spill into it 🤢

Hallo Felix.

I just want to share that I am born American and lived in the US my whole life (aside from a once in a lifetime 3 week trip to Germany, Switzerland and Austria).
I never understood why so many people around the world believed the metric system was better until I recently got a Victorinox SKA. It's so much more visually intuitive making it a lot less prone to measurement errors. I can't believe I am finally only learning this now and that it's all because of work with my SKA. I wish the imperial system would go away but the US is way too involved with it. It's everywhere here. 😩
Anyway, thank you Felix for these great videos. They've been a huge inspiration for me.

I have always considered the pliers to be the weak point of SAK features, this is the one area where Leatherman excels over Victorinox.

    • @TheGrenadier97
      @TheGrenadier97 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

But you're comparing what's essentially dignified tweezers to full-size pliers. A proper comparison is SwissTool versus what Leatherman offers. My personal experience tells that the swiss multitools are far superior in quality and finish.

    • @timsummers870
      @timsummers870 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The Swiss Tool is the one you should compare with the Leatherman, not the 91mm Victorinox pliers. The Swiss Tool is much better than the Leatherman as well.

Multitool pliers and knife pliers are apples and oranges. Each made for different work. Not a legitimate comparison. Like testing a scalpel against a two meter scimitar. With respect.

Thank you again on a great video! We are glad to see you highlight the use of the pliers. We use them frequently, especially for cooking at in the woods ( I use a plate as frying pan and the pliers as the handle) i also use the pliers to work a wire around my pot to make a handle so I can hang the pot over the fire. I own many Victorinox knives but mainly use the Hercules ( modified the scales and screwdriver, thanks to you again!) and the Evolution 52 (modified as well and is almost like a mini Hercules) Cheers from Canada!

I think the more adjustable Wenger pliers are more versatile without taking up more room on the knife.

Wenger pliers are thinner which make them even less sturdy.

The adjustable Wenger pliers have their uses, but nonetheless I prefer the Victorinox ones since they are less “fiddly” for me.

Awesome uses of the pliers my good friend. You always surprise me with new ideas. As another usage of the pliers I'll recommend it as a holder for your nipple piercing you wanted 🤣🤣🤣 clamp the rusty nail in the pliers and whack with stone....like you showed us with the small nail. 😅😅😅
    Just kidding.....
You can spread open the pliers when you have a broken socket from a lightbulb, to remove it. With that trick I've removed quite a lot in the past. Just make sure to switch the Power off before you remove a broken lampsocket (the Metal Part of a lightbulb). But it works like a charm.
Have a great day buddy. Looking forward to your next Video.
    Cheers, Mike
Btw, soon to be close in your area again, maybe we will make it this time for a cold beer. 😁🙌🏻

Is there something like this with pliers and scissors, without other tools? I have been carrying a Classic (the most simple and small) for decades, the only thing I miss is pliers. If I want pliers, then I have to go much bulkier and heavier.

Victorinox SAK pliers are very underrated. They are criticized for their small size, but I find them way more useful in everyday life than the large pliers of plier based multitools
