Upper body work is important for injury prevention and overall health. Weaknesses in the body will lead to muscular imbalances. Upper body comes into play during the double arm swing which can contribute substantially towards vertical jump height. It also helps with trunk stability. We already know that explosiveness can be trained by sprinting. One might assume that elite level sprinters would have a weak upper body because upper body mass means more weight that the legs have to carry right? But the reality is that elite sprinters have a very strong upper body. They need their upper body to accelerate fast, in the same sense jumpers need to stengthen their upper body for acceleration. Though I would train for pure functional strength instead of high volume to minimize upper body weight.
wassup isaiah, im planning to create my own home gym specifically for basketball and vertical jump, im 38 years old by the way, what equipment would you recommend with limited budget?
If I have a large upper body but very small weak legs than learning the penultimate step alone and practicing jumping alone isn’t going to make me maximize my verticle jump right? I would have to actually build strength in a low rep range with heavy, explosive squatting to build relative strength needed to jump with especially having a bigger upper body?
I’m 6’4” and I’m 41. So I’ve been a bunch of different weights through out the years. I was my strongest and jumped the highest when I was 205lbs. I jumped way higher at 205 than when I was 190, because I had more muscle and was more explosive. My heaviest I got while still staying lean was 217. I could still jump just as high but couldn’t do it as easy during games. So my sweet spot for jumping my highest and being able to get of the ground quick was 205. My highest max vert was 43” when I was 20 years old. Then I turned 21 and partied way too much and didn’t train anymore. Wish I would have stuck to it. Drinking and going out with friends is fun but i wasted almost a decade of my life from it. If you are young, find something positive to dedicate yourself to. It might be a lot of boring weekends, but you will thanks yourself when you get older. I know that was a little extra, but it’s something I would tell a younger me , if I had the chance. Of course the younger me would have to the older me to shut my old ass up. Lol
All you need is burpees n push ups n pullups plus sit ups n leg drills n you'll be flying n get a skipping rope 5mins a day in one month your vertical will increase guaranteed

@@Qertii160 is way too skinny for someone 6’4 barefoot especially off of 2 feet
@@douglasbeattie906 I’m 140 at about 6’0

bench pressing really messes up a lot of upper body technique. istg dips and pushups just do it all better.
I know you guys have a lot of knowledge but please make it more structured and give out more examples.
And please get better microphones.
Awesome video, I definitely used to overdo it with the upper body. Just keeping it simple with basic compounds for a few sets has been so much better.

👌🎯💪🏿
Somewhere 😂around
Why stay away from bench press?
Chest mass and tricep mass which wont help vertical and just adds weight to body
@@Nico_911 Thanks
