No you need to lift and periodize those lifts if you want to maximize your potential ! Plyometrics only really help if you combine them with strength training
@@charlesborel8493 Correction. Strength training adds to plyometrics but results can be achieved without lifting. I had Osgood-Schlatters in my left knee since I was 10 that made me walk with a limp by the time I was in middle school. A fall injured my left wrist freshman year of high school so I couldn't bench anymore and I never squatted because of my left knee. By the time I was 16 in 10th grade (2005) I was about 5'6 1/2" and trying to dunk everyday and only an inch or 2 away. I got jumper's knee the same year and learned about a jump program called Dunk Now so I did that the summer after 10th grade and part of my 11th grade year. I mainly did the first half of the program but only part of the second half. It was all plyometrics and, even though I did maybe 70% of it, I got my full vertical back plus a couple more inches and my jump mechanics were so much better and put less strain on my knees due to building my leg muscles plus my speed increased. I could easily grab rim at any park or gym with one step (I also grabbed rim at the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005 before the jump program). I was just missing a good alley-oop to get a dunk down. My knees got worse and I gained weight and got more injuries so lost the vert for years but briefly regained it 2015-2017. I do agree that lifting properly along with plyometrics can really help and may be the best way to jump your highest. I'm definitely adding some weights in to help with knee and back rehab and just get a lot stronger. I just wanted to point out that if you can't lift because of injury or some other issue, you can still get results doing body-weight training like plyometrics, calisthenics and sprinting. I did add weighted calisthenics back in 2015 and did some benching for a little while in 2016-2017 but had to stop. Hi! In context of vertical jump train what do you think about traditional back squat vs box squat? Is the box squat better variation, because you can fire up?
@@isaakvanwegen2784a box squat is better for vertical jump than a regular squat . Don't give advice if you don't know, the reason is from the range of motion and one neglects the top portion of the lift and the box squat doesn't and the range of motion is more specific to jumping. Anything under 1 second doesn't translate to vertical jump when moving weight as far as a 1 on 1 carry over. You need to move fast enough to turn strength into power and that's the science/reason behind why a box squat is better for vertical jump and full squat is better for general strength.
How strong do you think I am right now? I'm 5'11 and 141 lbs Squat: 220 lbs Deadlift: 150 lbs Bench: 80 lbs Power Clean: 90 lbs I have a relatively slim body frame and I also have like around 10% body fat
How strong you are has nothing to do with your vertical. It’s all genetics and of course you can train and get it a little better. Same with sprinting. No matter how much you train or how strong you are… you will never be able to beat Usain Bolt unless you have 1 in 100billion sprinting genetics.
It’s all genetics is actually not true that’s incredibly complicated now yes you need a high combinations of things to beat the very fastest person out of 7 billion but every man on the planet above 5’5 has the genetics to be able to jump what you need is the patience to train an cultivate the muscle fiber combination that works best for your frame an to train your cns an mechanics to to fire an be efficient enough to get the most out of your genetics the problem with your thinking is low standards an justifying them with the best like not being able to beat Usain Bolt isn’t an excuse to be fast anybody can train to run under 10.5 society will tell you otherwise but people just don’t know how
It has nothing to do with your MAX vertical. Your MAX is what it is but you aren't going to know what it is until you max out your strength and training and get relatively low body fat. Ain't no one trying to beat Usain Bolt, were just trying to do the best we can
Gotta add like 5% to all the body fats, not even close to 3%. Still obviously lean but 3% is insane, he's at least 8%

dude said helldiver 2 and hit me right in the gut
6 feet
Max bench 220
Max squat 435
Max deadlift 525
Body weight 195
I can only grab the rim
Vertical is trash lol I'm trying to have a 40 inch vertical
Your strong bro if you lose about 5-10 pounds and start dunking on a low rim you will dunk
Get your body fat below 10% while keeping those strength numbers and practice max approach jumps 1-2 times per week for a year and you’ll FLY
@IsaiahRivera1 I have a heavy frame I've been told i don't look my actual weight. People say I look around 13% body fat. I'm also 36 and September will be year 2 of working out. Do u think a 40+ vertical is possible for me?
@@qb5 Yes dude it’s possible !!! I think you should also run some sprints, no doubt the BEST thing to lose body fat while retaining muscle
Hi! In context of vertical jump train what do you think about traditional back squat vs box squat? Is the box squat better variation, because you can fire up?
The isometric/amortization phase of the squat (getting out the hole) is super useful so a normal squat def better.
You need to move fast enough to turn strength into power and that's the science/reason behind why a box squat is better for vertical jump and full squat is better for general strength.
i'm 5'5 with a 7'0 standing reach am i cooked ???
never lifted weights in my life dunking at 5’11” 135 🤣🤣 strength isn’t the only thing that matters
arm and hand length matters too
Eat a burger
thank you
I know I’m late ash, but I actually got my name said in the video😭😭😭😭
How fast? (40y) standing long jump.
Could most people get to a 40 inch vert?
yes
but remember guys weigthroom/lifting strength is NOT the same as jumping strength
How strong do you think I am right now?
I'm 5'11 and 141 lbs
Squat: 220 lbs
Deadlift: 150 lbs
Bench: 80 lbs
Power Clean: 90 lbs
I have a relatively slim body frame and I also have like around 10% body fat
14:05 LeBron can Dunk off 1 foot and he got a 40inch Vert💀
Being 6’8 you should be dunking easily on a 10 foot rim
You guys should pump Austin full of anabolic steroids to see if he can break Isaiah's record max vertical off one foot.
Lmfaoooo 😂
Austin said he’s down if you provide the steroids 😂
@@IsaiahRivera1 🤣
Somebody summarise this please.
For real lol no need for 18+ minutes
Please Isaiah get further away from the mic hahah
What do you think about dads 100 day journey to a 60 inch vert?🧐
Sorry but john doesnt have 42 vertical
He had, now he wants to get it back
11:10 bodyfat
How strong you are has nothing to do with your vertical. It’s all genetics and of course you can train and get it a little better. Same with sprinting. No matter how much you train or how strong you are… you will never be able to beat Usain Bolt unless you have 1 in 100billion sprinting genetics.
It’s all genetics is actually not true that’s incredibly complicated now yes you need a high combinations of things to beat the very fastest person out of 7 billion but every man on the planet above 5’5 has the genetics to be able to jump what you need is the patience to train an cultivate the muscle fiber combination that works best for your frame an to train your cns an mechanics to to fire an be efficient enough to get the most out of your genetics the problem with your thinking is low standards an justifying them with the best like not being able to beat Usain Bolt isn’t an excuse to be fast anybody can train to run under 10.5 society will tell you otherwise but people just don’t know how
I can’t jump for shit I’m around 6’ but can barely touch rim off 2 feet
It has nothing to do with your MAX vertical. Your MAX is what it is but you aren't going to know what it is until you max out your strength and training and get relatively low body fat. Ain't no one trying to beat Usain Bolt, were just trying to do the best we can
0:19 like a kangaroo? 👀
No way Isaiah is 5% body fat, did I hear that right? How can you function without taking less than legal substances at that bf
lmao im 6'3/190 pretty lean and i lift
squat: 365
deadlift: 425
bench: 275
but have a dogshit vert of 25" 💀
Jesus Christ is God❤Psalm 23:6😊
Cool
These guys do not even understand what a vertical jump is. A running jump is not a vertical jump.
without jumping is a standing vertical
a vertical jump can be running
Standing vertical running vertical

Hey wtf John
Lol, helldivers players don't have neck beards
Maybe y’all don’t like kneesovertoes guy cuz his workouts work better 🤷♂️ he’s taking y’all’s job
If you can logically explain to me how they’re better for jumping higher I’ll switch to his style of training for the rest of my life 😂
