Hi Roger, I've been buying live beach worms for years at $1.50 each. Approx $15.00 each trip. After watching your videos and following your info to a tee I can now successfully catch myself my own worms. The stocking and pilchards is a simple but effective method. I wasn't having great success with my fingers at first so I purchased pliers. After decapitating many unfortunate worms I have returned to using my fingers with great success. The most helpful visual tip in your video is, as soon as the worm is attached to the stocking I start to move the stocking slowly towards the beach and at the same time pushing my fingers in the sand and grabbing the worm approximately 2-3 inches down from his head. This system works great for me. Though I'm still learning to catch them when the waves come in. But I'll keep practising. I used to throw most fish back until I watched your filleting video and beer batter video. They were both invaluable and I now have a happy wife as she doesn't have to be concerned with bones. The batter IS fool proof. Thanks so much for helping me Roger. You have made one Port Macquarie fisherman and his wife very happy.
Best video on TH-cam by far about catching beach worms. Very clear, concise, covers the whole subject and great video footage. I'm 66 years old and live in Cental Queensland and have wanted to catch beach worms for most of those 66 years. I finally snagged my first worm yesterday after watching your video. Yahooo! Now I can't wait to get back up the beach and get some more! Thanks so much Roger for putting in the time and effort making the video and bringing so much joy to so many people.
Great video, thanks. 45 years ago in high school as a student, I did a school speech on beach worms, catching them, their life cycles and reproduction. It was extremely interesting, or a least I thought so.

I'm excited as we're moving to the mid north coast and will be living 5 minutes from a selection of beaches. I've always loved this form of fishing but until now have only had brief opportunities during holidays and short breaks, but now the world is my beach. Great work and many thanks.

Just discovered your videos, hoping to retire to the south coast NSW within 2 or 3 years. Ive never managed to catch much off the beach over the years. your vids have really wetted my appetite. Thanks for all the good info.
Grabbing them was the hardest part for me. I was using the plastic pliers though and trying to grab the head. They just zip off when you do that. They way you grab them a little bit under the head in the sand using your fingers looks much more effective. Thanks for the great video it was very helpful!

Hi mate.I'm from mauritius island and we do have sea worms but only in muddy sand areas..We do have a lot of species around the island and I think the beach worms work great on those hooks..I do use fresh squid...The difference between squid and those worms is that I can target some species and avoid messing with those murray eels...cathing those would be the tips of the year..Thanks lots for your video and you are very heplful mate..carry on and you got another subscriber... :)
Hi Kat, thanks for saying hello. We get worms in muddy areas that you either dig or pump. They are called blood worms and are different to beach worms. I'm sure that the fishing on Mauritius is awesome, regards Roger.
I discovered your channel today and i cant stop watching! Your videos are super helpful so thanks. I live in Perth and apparently there are like no beach worms in WA unfortunately.
Thanks for the great content. Here at Ocean Beach, San Francisco, California, we just dig for them at low tide, exposing hundreds of yards of wet sand flats. You can see many holes and its lots of work. Furthermore, sometimes you’ll slice threw them with whatever digging tool being used. I think we have a different species of worm here, but I’ll have to try this technique, which seems much less grueling.
Hi Lumber Chicken, yes I think that you probably have what we call Blood Worms. We dig Blood Worms and they are an excellent bait. Beach worms are a different species, they grow to 9ft long. I would be interested to know if there were actually Beach Worms in the U.S.A.
@@RogerOsborneFishing , we have both blood worms and sand or pile worms, each of which is very distinctive. However, the pile or sand worms have some respectively nasty mandibles. Unfortunately, I’m after that species. lol
Great video Roger. Thanks for the info. I have tried a bit down on the South Coast (Illawarra). Had success first time I tried but went back a couple of days lated and they'd gone. Time to try a new beach! Keep the vids coming.
Ha ha, I'm in ulludulla this weekend staying at the headland park. I bought my pliers and bait bucket - will have a snoop around tomorrow at low tide, see if I can get some!
Hi Roger, I am in the UK and use a bate pump to get lug worms on the low tides. Do you think your method would work on lug worms. I have just come out of hospital so will not be able to try it for a while but as Arny said, "I'll be back"
I catch beach worms in south oz. Mainly on hot summer days. Never really bother in the winter because it gets too cold but but also because the yellow fin whiting turn off during winter and that's what we use em for mostly. I may give it a go this winter and try them for the salmon run...
Nice tip, thank you! I will have to test this out here in the east coast of the U.S. If it works, great!...that will beat digging the beach up for worms.
Hi Fishing Buddy, thanks for your comment. It would be a good idea to test it. Try several spots, not just one beach. Let me know how you go. Remember, beach worms are attracted by scent, so you need some nice smelly fish(not fresh). Roger
If you can get the sun at the right angle, eg. late in the afternoon, you can sometimes see where the worms are located by the small round flat "fans" that they poke up out of the sand. They can be difficult to spot unless the light is just right & I assume they are some type of feeler. The bigger the worm the bigger the fan which means when you come across a cluster of them you can go for the big worms & forget the smaller ones. I have been able to pull some that were nearly as fat as my little finger & all of 6ft +. Just a couple of those sometimes was enough for a couple of hours fishing for whiting off the surf beach on the Sunshine Coast. But I must admit that it's hard to beat those mud worms we used to dig up when the tide went way out at Scarborough Qld. You could catch almost anything with that bait.
Plenty of beach worms at the spit gold coast, I like to use fresh fish frame/s mullet seems to work best and small piece of mullet flesh as a finger bait.
Hi Roger hope you are well. Not sure if you have done much worming on the gold coast, we have moved to mermaid beach would you know where abouts I should go
Such a great idea using a stocking for years i have been using a whole mullet swishing it about getting too old to rub the mullet in the sand will try your way next time i go worming im in QLD lots of worms hear.
