Great review! We purchased a 2021 TRD Pro Sequoia and couldn't be more happy. Ultimately, this will either be the best purchase you've ever made or you may simply be throwing your money away, because it all boils down to your specific needs. Living in a more rugged and remote region of Wyoming, our TRD Sequoia spends 70% of its time on paved roads, 25% loose gravel, and 5% trail. It performs amazing in winter conditions, which we need, because we have the potential to receive snow during any given month. Our TRD Pro Sequoia helped to transport health care and emergency response workers during our most recent snowmageddon event, which dumped 28+ inches of snow within a 24 hour period and stranded many vehicles. It has ensured that we have made it back home safely after each and every one of our overlanding adventures, which often span hundreds of miles on dirt trails in some of the most remote regions of our state. I've also had the pleasure of rescuing several large trucks, 4runners, and a Tahoe z71 that was out of its element. I don't care if the interior is outdated, or if it's missing many modern comfort features because I need a vehicle that can handle the absolute worst and most grueling terrain and weather conditions possible, as well as get my kids to and from their various events safely. However, if this vehicle is going to stay on paved surfaces in a mild climate then there are more practical options.
My only complaints about the vehicle are as follows...
    1. Limited range. I wish the fuel tank were larger. I hate having to haul extra fuel tanks if it can be avoided. The average distance between towns in Wyoming is 100+ miles so stopping to refuel at any moment isn't realistic.
    2. The head unit is easily the worst part of the vehicle. Toyota tried to update the technology and did a poor job. I'm thankful that they didn't throw some trash 9+ screen in the vehicle, which seems to be a common trend, but I wish they had simply kept a simple head unit with an auxiliary port instead. Because the unit is missing an aux port and cd-player, the only practical option is to buy a Bluetooth device for listening to music.

This thing is freaking amazing! If you are considering getting an SUV, I highly recommend this one over any highlander or minivan. It has a great engine, very practical, and so reliable it can get you to hell and back. Wether you’re going skiing, off roading in the Utah wilderness, or just carpooling kids to school, this is best in class. Coming from a two time Sequoia owner. Get yours now while it has the V8!

The Sequoia TRD PRO looks amazing on the exterior, but I just wish they updated the interior, plus this is a step up from the Chevy as you mentioned resale wise and reliability/durability, and this I can see have a lot of aftermarket support like people converting these as an overlander and if I had a Sequoia I would definitely throw some mods on it like a winch, maybe a lift, and just make it the ultimate overlander

My 2009 AWD 5.7 L SEQUOIA, has 345,000 miles. However, I had to replace the engine due to probably not doing proper maintenance, ( either by me or the previous owner ). Transmission still works, but there is some
sensor problem, that I have not been able to get fixed, due to mechanics not understanding the issue.
Sequoias are not for poor people. They guzzle gas and repairs are outrageously costly. Used parts are impossible to find where I live. Why would anybody want aluminum rims on an off-road vehicle.... especially those.
Great vehicle, but over-priced and the competition offers better off-road vehicles if you can afford to buy those.
I am driving my 2009 Sequoia until I croak. And the next owner will have fun turning it in to something cool.

Great review as always Joe, only one thing I politely disagree on is the "liner power curve a V8 gives you". Those 2.7/3.5L ecoboosts have a very V8 like power curve, it's almost insane. They don't sound near as good, but I've driven a neighbors V8 Sequoia and then my '15 Edge Sport(2.7L twin turbo) and power delivery is identical. The F150/Expedition's have bigger turbos so they are a hair laggier, but in the smaller SUVs like the Explorer and Edge/Fusion with the 2.7/3.0L TT's, it really does feel like a V8. Especially after you tune them!

if you dont mind paying that much money for gas and the crap fuel economy buy one now the amount of power in these twin turbo v6 engines are amazing and turbos have come a really long way but I still prefer NA and this is a proven engine. get this while you can not many years left to get this engine before the twin turbo v6 comes hopefully its reliable but who knows. plus if you get this while you still can you can say I have a V8 lol and then you can tune it and do whatever you want with it.

Compared to the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline and the GMC Yukon AT4 this isn’t a great suv. On the outside it’s very nice and I love the design but the interior is just horrendous and should have been updated at least 5 years ago! This and the price is probably why I never see new Sequoia’s on the road.

You know, if Toyota was really smart and wanted to be smart for the targeted audience of this vehicle, they would take the V8 and just revamp it even if you only get a 2 MPG increase in the city and highway by itself, or pair it with a mild hybrid setup to increase the performance as well, a mild hybrid + V8 would definitely be more worthy from an efficiency standpoint.
