Getting to Know (parts of) You

  • This video is designed to help you get to know the various "parts" of you that make up your personality. It is based on the emerging understanding that our personality consists of many different parts of us, and that at our core we have our true Self. We are inherently good.
Here we focus on a "parts map" as a technique for getting to know your parts and how they relate to each other.
There are many different ways to map our parts; the process is termed "unblending" whereby our parts separate out from us so that we can be with them.
And that means we can enjoy being present with our Self-energy (calmness, creativity, joy, compassion etc.) more.

Showing the map was extremely helpful! Seeing IFS in practice is always helpful vs talking in theory

An excellent video Derek, well done! I found the expressive visuals representing the parts easier to identify with as opposed to a label only.
I’ve experienced reluctance to create my own map likely from that part that is “afraid of getting it wrong” so it may be useful for others to acknowledge that part beforehand. I’m also aware of resistance from a part that says “IFS isn’t scientific enough” e.g. “yeah but, where does cognitive bias fit into the IFS model”.
To which a wiser part of me replies: “if the raft helps you cross the stream, then it was worth the effort of building it.”
