I think this finally puts the ATEM Mini Pro on my gear list...because now I can pretty much get everything a “full featured” ME would give (program out + multi view simultaneously) in a budget package! This was the missing niece I was waiting for! And for everyone asking how long the lag is on this...just watch the video! With the loop back on input 4, you can see the response time from button press to image on screen.
Did you notice any latency or color degradation in your HDMI chain? Did you have to add few frames of audio delay because of the extra monitor? I am a bit concerned by adding an extra thing in the HDMI chain that may alter color or add latency.
I bought the Feelworld (Seetec?) monitor from your link and have one issue that you might be interested in. I can't feed my Mac HDMI (1080p/60 fps) into the ATEM Mini thru the monitor and show it in program output from the ATEM Mini. I made it work (kind of) by plugging the Mac HDMI into port 1 (no other ports work) and restart the Mac AFTER plugging the cables into the ATEM via the monitor and make sure that all cameras were set to the same resolution and frame rate as the Mac (1080p/60). After restarting the Mac, it still did not work until I set the monitor to HDMI 1 full screen and then switch back to the quad-view. It's a monitor pass thru issue because the program out on the ATEM works as expected when plugging the Mac directly into any port on the ATEM. Bottom line: use another monitor for program out or preview if you want to show what's on the Mac. I don't have a PC so I don't know if this is an issue for a PC.
Hi, I also had the same issue, Using a MacBook Pro with a MiniDP to HDMI converter (I also tried a MiniDP to Dvi to HDMI and same result). The Mac picture worked when inputted straight to the ATEM Mini but not when through the monitor. A PC laptop worked with not problems. I thought it might be some sort of HDMI handshake issue. The thing is it would work for a moment when plugging it in or switching the resolution/framerate but then wold turn to black and have static in the feed sometimes. I'll try to replicate your solution to see if it will work, but yes, this definitely is not ideal. I wonder if a different monitor with HDMI passthrough would have a similar issue. I do recall Gerald undone having problems with getting the Ninja V HDMI to pass through to the ATEM mini well, but I might be wrong and it was the ATOMOS Shogun 7 instead. (Edit) I tried doing your fix but it didn't work, it showed static on the ATEM output in OBS. I did a test, chaining the HDMI Intput 1 output to another HDMI input on the Seetec monitor to see if there was anything coming through in the output, but it was black meaning the problem is with the monitor not knowing how to pass forward the Mac computer signal.., I tried the same thing with a camera output and it worked no problem.
@@carlseilerSorry to hear it. Yeah, I can't get it to work since the other day. I even tried my 2014 Mac with a built-in HDMI port. No go. It also looks like there is no way to install a firmware update (no USB port). I should have spent the extra money for the ATEM Mini Pro instead of the Mini and this monitor. The problem is, I live in Mexico and paid about 30% more in duty that I won't get back if I return the monitor to B&H. I plan to return it, anyway. It's unworkable if you want to display anything from the Mac or iPad.
The issue is different. It is a problem with the 156 monitor not being able to pass through the HDCP signal coming from the mac. Accordingly, the picture is shown by the monitor but does not get into the Atem Mini. I currently try to use a HDMI splitter with 2 outputs for the Mac signal. One will get into the 156, the other directly into the Atem Mini. Update: I now received the GuangDa HDMI-Splitter 1 in 2 Out, 4K HDMI-Splitter from Amazon (around 10 EUR) and connected it as described: it works just great and as expected! Thus, for each relevant source aligned with HDCP signal it only costs about 10 EUR to solve. Still convinced by the monitor price/value. And thanks Aaron for your great review and for showing us this monitor in connection with the Atem Mini. Pls. go ahead ;-)
@@Axmaxify I also used a HDMI Splitter and it solved the problem. Another problem I found was that the signals coming out of the monitor seemed have more contrast. Could be a 16-235 vs 0-255 color thing or something else, but all the sources passing thought the monitor had more contrast than when plugging them straight into the ATEM.
Thanks Aaron, looks good. Does this device handle different input source frame rates ok? Can you input a 1080p60 and 720p30 next to it? Do the outputs mirror the input standard, ie 1080p60 in = 1080p60 out? Or are they all munged to the same as (maybe) input 1?
So I have experienced one odd issue where when I connect either a windows based PC running at 1920X1080p into the monitor it will show as a cropped image up in the input selected on the monitor. Also its the same way using a BMD SDI/HDMI converter which losses sync altogether. Whether. I’m running Level A or B has no effect. I rectify this use by adding an HDMI EDID Manager and then it all flies. Welcome some thoughts here. Thanks
Thanks for this video Aaron. Very informative. I would like to use a monitor like this size and features as a confidence monitor on a teleprompter connected to the ATEM mini. Do you think this monitor would be bright enougth for that purpose? Thank you!
Love your videos - thanks! Since this video is almost a year and a half old now, I'm wondering if you still think this monitor is the best for the ATEM Mini?
It is still a great monitor! I've been using it in my studio still. However the quad view feature is less important now that the ATEM Mini Pro has the multiview feature built in. But if you need the quad view for other reasons it's still a good choice!
I'll never use more than three cameras so I feel like a mini PC's HDMI output could go to one of the four inputs of this monitor. I'm interested in ditching the laptop for a mini PC with an external monitor. Doing so would facilitate building the Mini Pro and everything else into a Pelican case to use as an integrated system in a box for location streaming (kind of like a supercharged YoloBox). What are your thoughts?
Thanks, @aaron, I've had folks talked about the Seetec as a great way to pair the MINI to minimize buyers' remorse when the ATM Mini Pro and the Pro ISO came out. My question is a bit of a workflow redundancy question? If you pair the setup with the vMixPro, the bummer thing is it still views the Atem as a single source via a Type C. This may be a pipe dream but is there any plans that any of the MINI line can be view as a multiview in another livestream software so you have the full benefit of seeing 4 inputs than only a sole input via the Type C. THAT would be amazing!!!!
Yup me too. The only way for the ATEM to see the iPad was to loop the iPad through a Video Assist and then into the Seetec. Any thoughts @Aaron Parecki ?
Thanks for the community work you’ve been doing. Could you tell us what is the lag on audio? Can you talk with the headphones, listening to yourself without wanting to smash it?
First I would like to thank you for your videos we learn a lot with them. I do have 2 question for you if you can help. 1. What is the battery that we can get with it. and 2. Which monitor is better ATEM 156 or the ATEM 156-co
This takes a "V-mount" battery, just search for that and you'll find a bunch of options. I'm not familiar with the "co" version but it looks like it's the same monitor built in to a little carry case.
Hi Aaron, The Atem Mini (Pro etc) do automatically adapt your footage from the cameras to 1080 regardless of codec, 4K or 1080. Now you feed to Seetec and from Seetec to Atem with 1080 cables. What does that mean for the quality when your footage is 4K??? Very curious.
Do you know if "messages" from the ATEM software are passed through back to the cameras like the BMDPCC4k? talking camera adjustments like gain, lift, etc
@Aaron Parecki Hi, thanks for the video! You mention high-quality recording via HDMI. What hardware/software does the job? Excuse me, but I'm new to streaming.
I had to double check, there's two screw holes on the bottom, one on each end. The back also takes a regular VESA mount which is how I have mine mounted right now. The bracket the monitor comes with has a screw hole in the center too.
Hi Aaron, informative as always. I've been building toward a rather complex studio setup and cable runs would need to be up to 60-ish ft, so I figure a repeater would be prudent. Do you think this unit can pull double duty instead and output a strong enough signal to cover, say, 40' (or longer)?
If your cameras are not changing resolution, could you use EDID dongles on each input of the monitor to avoid the renegotiation of the resolution when you switch modes? That might significantly speed up switching.
I can give it a try but I think that works the other direction. The EDID dongles tell the camera to lock to a specific mode rather than tell the monitor what to expect.
@@aaronpk That's what I was thinking. For the delay to happen, the monitor may let the camera think it no longer has a display when it switches away. The dongle will make the camera think there is a display still there so when the monitor switches back, the camera is already sending a signal. Worth a try and might lessen or eliminate what looks like the only downside. If you have a contact, maybe suggest a network port on the next version and streamdeck compatibility. :-)
If you're using the HDMI output of the Pro/ISO for your multiview then the only thing you can record is the USB output or streaming output, both of which are compressed into h264, which will lose some detail in the image. So the idea is by using this monitor as the multiview, that frees up the HDMI output to record into something that compresses less than the h264 encoder in the ATEM Mini

ATEM Mini Pro HDMI Out = MultiView + Preview + info like On Air and Audio levels. If you use ATEM Mini Pro HDMI Out for recording Program Out then with ATEM156 you only have MultiView

SEETEC ATEM156 15.6 Inch Live Streaming Broadcast Director Monitor with 4 HDMI ....DOES ALL 4 STREAMS PASS THOUGH IT NO MATER IF YOU HAVE JUST ONE O ALL 4 ON THE SCREEN
Great vid as always. This would be ideal for me and my work but the price and the lag when switching is a little off putting. Quick question pls, does it degrade the quality at all?
It doesn't seem to affect the image at all. You can kind of see in this thumbnail too, I actually ran my camera into the first HDMI input, then ran a cable from output 1 into input 2, daisy chaining all the way down. So the image in the lower right corner has actually gone through the monitor routing a few times! It doesn't even introduce a delay that way!
ATEM Mini and the ATEM156 is too expensive and limited to what is does. Just the ATEM Mini alone you can buy two laptops that is good enough to stream with 8 cameras with a multi-view of 48 cameras/animations, graphcis, etc in OBS. And you can stream in 4k with clean crispy quality at any rate and it is free. The video compression quality of the ATEM is not that great and you are limited. But, if you are looking for some super limited with ok video quality and don't care about the high price for something that is super out dated today, the ATEM mini and ATEM156 could be fine for you. TH-cam today prioritize 4k because more and more people are watching in a TV. Why do you want to limited yourself with these limited expensive devices when there is better choices outthere?

Aaron Parecki thanks for replying as always.
So... whats the price?
The link is in the description!
@@aaronpk thanks!
What's the purpose of this?
if only they did an SDI version
They have one! geni.us/88IZi This is pretty common gear in the pro SDI world, what's unusual is that there's now a market for an HDMI version!
Is a bit expensive, may be is better to buy a new Atem Mini Pro
I think so... maybe for 200... but for that price, it's better buy the Atem mini PRO plus a external monitor.
@@PeakingTomatoes yes, for 100€ you can buy, splitters, multiviewer and cables...
for expend 500 may be better the atem mini pro and external monitor.
If anyone is looking to purchase this monitor, I have mine for sale, like new and just upgrading equipment!
*** actually ***
