I remember Wordsmith once said in a Steam discussion that, how he sees the heists, is that every time you play a heist its like someone retelling what happened during that heist and that since everyone remembers things slightly different from each other, the real story never really remains the same. Basically, Payday 2's RNG mechanics are canon and it's people trying to recall the same event but memory is having people tell slightly different stories every time.
This is enforced in one of the opening dialogues for No Mercy. Chains will be saying something and Duke will cut in and say, "Why does it feel like I shouldn't be here?" (or something along those lines.) Bane tells him he should be here, but Chains and Duke are the only ones present (story timeline wise) to say anything. Other intros has Chains, Bane, and Hoxton; and then a mix of Wolf, Houston (or Hoxton. It's difficult to say), and Bill from L4D. The mission is prefaced by Chains though which eludes that the No Mercy Heist is a different retelling of the heist from different members perspectives. Hence why newcomer (storywise) Duke questioned his presence in such an old heist stated in the game as "an old heist".
As much as I hate "This was all a dream" plot excuses, this actually makes the most sense. You can take different characters to different heists (even ones before they joined the crew) and the circumstances make it ridiculous. I believe all of the game is actually a retelling of how the heisters felt during the heist, while sitting on the beach, boasting about their achievements (as per true ending), talking about endless waves of cops, millions of dollars etc, while in reality it was probably at most about 50 cops or so they fought, but the player usually slays hundreds. Also explains how you can do the same heists in different ways, even in stealth/loud and inbetween. I don't think it's realistic that you rob the FBI HQ 100 times in a row lmao.
Although you never pair the vaults or artifacts up with it (I guess the nuclear warheads are in the range of super heavy), The Longfellow can hold 4 loot items and all 4 heisters........ The suspension of the Longfellow can hold up twice the weight it's supposed to and not buckle when going off a ramp, yet it fails to navigate around a shipping container with 5 feet of clearance between it and the container.

I've always been under the headcanon that Jacket doesn't use his tape recorder when heisting. He's just the silent type that whistles and uses hand signals, even in the midst of a firefight. A la Hotline Miami proper. And when everyone is winding down in between waves, or chilling in the safehouse, he uses the tape recorder then. Or at the very least, he uses weapons that only require one hand to operate, and takes cover to pull out his tape recorder if something major happens. He only uses it all the time in-game so that players can still get those auditory cues.

Another thing to note about the Hardcore Henry-to-PAYDAY 2 connection; there is a scene in Hardcore Henry where the main character opens up a drawer with a duct tape mask and dual pistols inside. This is Jimmy's mask in PAYDAY 2, and it (coincidentally or not) around the same time Akimbo pistols were reworked.
For how people did the full-stealth Counterfeit heist, you would take 2 body bags and place both in spots where the AI couldn't physically walk to them (one of the locations was atop a set of cupboards in Wilson's kitchen, and the other was on top of a gate next to Mitchell's house). The first two cops that were called to the scene would notice one body bag each, freeze, and attempt to walk to it. But since the bags were placed in a way where the AI literally couldn't path to them, they were forever stuck in the initial 'alert' state and never sound the alarm. As long as you didn't kill them or get detected yourself, you could then play out the whole heist without going loud.
The fact about the shitty cop rate and response time for the AI was something I totally noticed back in the day. Had an abysmal laptop that ran payday 2 at like 10-15 FPS on low and I could run through rooms of cops while they basically ignored me for a couple seconds. It was kind of fun as hell back then lol
37:52 the devs said that when mercy hospital blew up at the end of no mercy, it completely destroyed all traces of the green flu (besides what was administered to bain, but that was a heavily modified version that got rid of all the zombie crap) which is what separates the L4D and the Payday universe, as in the L4D universe the hospital was never destroyed causing the infection to spread.
The ricochet minigus is basically an april fool's joke mechanic that allowed players to shoot weapons and in any direction and the bullet will bounce, it was fairly OP with the minigun
The Lucile counter was not for the bat but was to announce the overkills the walking dead game and the happen to give the bat as a consolation rewards i guess for killing the hype people had.
Oh right, forgot to add something. Houston is confirmed being Dallas brother. How he came to be started when at launch people complained how Hoxton sounded way different (because of different VA), so Overkill changed the story, with the og Hoxton being in prison and Houston taking his place and mask (which then leads all to the affairs with the Dentist to free Hoxton)
Fell out of playing this game back in 2015 when the dlc's kept getting churned out. I still remember when the safehouse was a small building with some rooms and a basement, there were only like 5 or 6 playable characters at that time lmao. I still play from time to time with my friends that I haven't seen in person for years, and we both were shocked when we really thought about how much the game has changed over the years. Edit - So I just reinstalled the game and now the safehouse is almost as I remembered it the first time I played, the last time I remember it was some sort of woodland villa with 10+ playable characters occupying it.
5:13 - You don't need to theorize about it, since it's confirmed in Houston's bio xddd 9:50 - You've missed out one of the greatest glitch for making money/XP - basically, you need to throw the body bag at the top of the gate frame, where the cops shows up and at the top of kitchen cupboard (Marcmb had the great video on this glitch, which explains every detail). This is because AI doesn't know how to get to those bags and they can't report them to the dispatch, but they still will be at "!" state. 14:48 - That's basically the screw up from Overkill, since they didn't removed in april 2nd the ricochet for Minigun. It's also the case for akimbo weapons and pistols. That was fixed shortly. 22:32 - Not related to this video, but rather one plothole that WordSmith actually created - you see, during the Bank Heist - you can kidnap two specific hostages, that a responsible for raiding Wick's house and killing his dog Daisy, despite Good Ending told us, that the first movie takes place after the PD2. Also he knows Charon, even though he gets to know him in the first film. Final coffin in the nail - Wick's models features scars, that John receives after the torture, again that he gains from the first film. Hoxton in "Hoxton's Breakout" also does have the line about John's deceassed wife. 28:45 - Well, actually in 2015 - AlienWare Arena had the giveaway for both Alienware related mask and the exclusive melee weapon. That's how I've got those xd 37:57 - Thanks to Murkywater, they probably didn't. The virus was only injected to Bain and considering Murky successfully burned the Mercy Hospital to ashes - the L4D scenario is unluckly to happen in PD universe... The Heist version though - yep, it's totally the prequel to Left 4 Dead. 39:07 - Lucille bat was also crossover with Walking Dead and can be consider the second official material about the new (at the time) Overkill's IP in the form "Overkill's The Walking Dead". The first one being the teaser. 40:33 - This is more of a joke on Simon's (Viklund) part than a fake. It's also during that period - some theory goes that Ulf and Bo had conflict about the microtransaction and other stuff, which lead to Wolf character not receiving any new lines. 48:20 - Vlad in AfterShock heist says, that the safe weights 400lbs. But considering your math - it's even crazier xd 1:04:00 - I think it's a reference to Ron Perlman's birthday, but with 6 days gap - since he was born 13th of april. 1:06:12 - Charity thing was brought up by the dude with Life Is Strange profile pic, since he was close friend with AJ (I forgot his name, but if someone reads this and was around this time in PD community - they probably can recognize who I'm talking about) 1:09:40 - I don't think it's Eric though, since the beta voice doesn't sound like him at all. Either it's a good acting by Eric's part or most likely - it's a placeholder voice due to Simon Kerr being unavaiable for one reason or another.
22:32 I think they are separate people from the first movie. If you kill them, instead of taking them to the van. You hear Bain sometimes saying something along the lines of "That's all John's been talking about after he saw that disgusting video."
Also, for Bobblehead Bob, not mentioned directly, but he actually appears in the Big Bank heist, complete with the achievement Backing Bobblehead Bob which needs you to tie him up and bring him to the vault during the heist.
There's a comically large spoon now too. It's a melee weapon, and if you get 100 kills with it you get a golden version. It's got the best stats in the game for a melee weapon.
@@championdonut235 I agree. Overkill has been pretty alright in regards to updating the console version of Payday 2, just not as good as PC. The ricochet mini guns refer to the April fools event where the mini guns would shoot so many bullets that it would crash servers and give you a lil light show
I believe the line "Your name is not Jacket" from the prison nightmare heist refers to the fact that the name Jacket was given to the character by the fans and was never his official name until Hotline Miami 2.

Also the mercury symbol is associated with genderfluid, not transgender It also has applications in alchemy, and the symbol appears a few times in the cagliostro manuscript (the guide of bain)
At 47:53 the fact that the old mosconi had one pellet going perfectly straight where you were looking is really similiar to how shotguns work in source engine games
fun fact: when you do the mercy hospital heist and take the blood sample from patient zero. that is canonical so payday and l4d/l4d2 take place in the same universe
Maybe Ricochet miniguns is talking about how when you shoot the minigun at a corpse for a couple of seconds, the bullets will ricochet off of it and hit someone else, or someone else has already answered this.
48:48 NGL, that "Wanka!" got me to lol. "Cloakers have guns" as someone who runs (and actually quite enjoys) a pseudo-cloaker build, I wish I could equip all the mods on the Compact 5
Couldn't find a comment on this so I'll just make it myself. I'm pretty sure that "ricochet miniguns" refers to the Mutator options you can choose when starting a heist. A lot of people found it fun to turn on "friendly fire" and "ricochet" to pvp each other in a very small area with miniguns so that the bullets fly all across the room. A good room for this is the basement in Nightclub
I'm still upset that counterfeit was patched without the same treatment Mallcrasher got. I did it once to see what was what, I'm not a big stealth player. But it was neat, and actually very difficult to do, especially if you were soloing it. The argument that it was free money/xp, well sure. But so is playing cook off on low difficulties for hours on end with bots. The payout of the fake money was very low, even on the higher difficulties, and you'd spend a mind-numbingly long time trying to farm it and it was very easy to make a mistake and go loud, ruining the whole thing. Mallcrasher was the same way, people found a way to 99% stealth it and it became a meme, then a feature. Why couldn't this just be left alone or given the same treatment? Make it a feature, give people more content more or less, for another playstyle.
correction: vlad sometimes does still show up in your safehouse after completion of golden grin and the diamond, and there are other references to Hoxton's name being Jim Hoxworth from the Elephant and the butler. well vlad shows up in mine periodically in the bar area.
You can actually still see some of the bag damage mechanics in the safehouse raid, where if you shoot your money bags (the ones in the stash, not the actual bags you can pick up) money flies out
Almir's Toast became a joke because sometimes safes you drill don't have loot, but random props. One of these props was a half-eaten sandvich. Not sure who puts that into a safe
"Old meth formula" reminds me that I once read that they had intended for the cooking mechanic to be far more complicated, with well over 3 ingredients, and maybe even a dozen steps.
39:59 actually it would make more sense that they'd use the diamond of it's a Lazer drill since actual diamond tipped drills can't cut through tough metals because it'd shatter on the pressure but if they used it for the lense of the drill that'd work
the whole lone wolf thing? i feel like they somehow found out about it, but i really dont think it was ulf, wasnt the whole crimefest idea of skins made by liongamelion and bo? why would it randomly blame almir for everything? it doesnt make exact sense. also i think the missing HRT units is a broken code that they never fixed (not surprised)
14:50 IIRC during one of april fools updates they added a perk deck that had richochet ability and it was best used with the minigun. This lasted for a day, the joke perk deck was removed...

one possibility for duke being a time traveler is that on certain heists, I'm not sure which ones exactly, but I know he says it on no mercy, voice lines like "I feel like I'm not supposed to be here" or something like that
If I’m not mistaken the fire damage screams are stock sounds. They were reversed and used in sad satan. Source: video titled something along the lines of sad satan audio debunked, if not then they are extremely similar
1:08:20 don’t forget. Payday 2 is also connected to Dead by Daylight. Why? Cause if Payday 2 is connected to Left 4 Dead. That means Bill death happened in the payday universe and that Bill soul was taken by the entity in Dead by Daylight.
Don't know if somebody said this, but I think the "Chains is in a pickle" line is still used in the game. I remember hearing that not all that long ago. Thinking it might just be rare to hear.
The clone cops is confirmed IMO. Big Bank has a stocks update screen(or whatever it's called) that mentions a company that produces ready-made, pre-trained, and pre-armed Cops, alongside companies that make Drills and other in-game items.
About Hoxtons name Being Jim, there are other clues about it, too. In the Hoxton breakout trailer, when Dallas is tending to Hoxtons wounds, he says, “Jim, relax”. And in the FBI files, they say that because he got caught, Hoxton is the only heister that the FBI knows the name of.
The minigun ricochet are the bullet delays whenever you fired the minigun or the microgun, since they shoot so many bullets so fast it sorta has a delay or ricochet effect after you fired it
Don’t forget about the vaults on Aftershock, I remember Bain saying the vaults are 400 pounds, if you take the vaults instead of a body bag, it’s around 600

Everybody check out Marcmb for detailed videos on the Counterfeit Stealth exploit (even post-fix), if you haven't done so already
@@ENKTDeeColon_and_randomnumbers yeah his videos are really good at explaining mechanics
This is basically dodge perk on steroids

About the bomb vest, there's also a statue with a bomb vest in Hotline Miami day 2, which you can defuse to save him with some bundle of money
That wasn't a statue, mate...
@@anonymus5637 Wait what? Oh... Almost 5 years playing and I never realized he was an actual person...
I actually bumped into him last week when speedrunning this heist and never got him before, too bad I didn't catch it and let it explode lmao
I think he was also a reference to a hostage in Hotline Miami 1 who had a bomb vest on him.
He's also needed for an achievement and he unlocks you the Aubrey mask
37:52 the devs said that when mercy hospital blew up at the end of no mercy, it completely destroyed all traces of the green flu (besides what was administered to bain, but that was a heavily modified version that got rid of all the zombie crap) which is what separates the L4D and the Payday universe, as in the L4D universe the hospital was never destroyed causing the infection to spread.
The "chains is in a pickle" line is still in the game i heard it about 2 weeks ago on hoxton breakout
Mercury is the Roman name of Hermes, and Hermes often being portrayed as super fast, is fitting for a biker.
The ricochet minigus is basically an april fool's joke mechanic that allowed players to shoot weapons and in any direction and the bullet will bounce, it was fairly OP with the minigun
The clone army is also in reference to one of the many joke companies on Big Bank's stock monitors
The Lucile counter was not for the bat but was to announce the overkills the walking dead game and the happen to give the bat as a consolation rewards i guess for killing the hype people had.
I think both the community and Overkill themselves prefer to think Overkill's: TWD never existed so let's leave it in the Lucille countdown

11 days after this Video Payday Crime war gets a publisher, coincidence, I think not
it did?

OOOOOOOOOH

Lets hope it's not take two interactive.
Lets just pray that it isnt netease games for fuck sake

watching this really makes me wanna play payday 2 again esepically with how much secret stuff is in the game
Enjoyed the video, I was actually behind the Car Shop C4 one at 25:11, good work!
5:13 - You don't need to theorize about it, since it's confirmed in Houston's bio xddd
9:50 - You've missed out one of the greatest glitch for making money/XP - basically, you need to throw the body bag at the top of the gate frame, where the cops shows up and at the top of kitchen cupboard (Marcmb had the great video on this glitch, which explains every detail).
That's how I've got those xd
37:57 - Thanks to Murkywater, they probably didn't.
But considering your math - it's even crazier xd
1:04:00 - I think it's a reference to Ron Perlman's birthday, but with 6 days gap - since he was born 13th of april.
1:06:12 - Charity thing was brought up by the dude with Life Is Strange profile pic, since he was close friend with AJ (I forgot his name, but if someone reads this and was around this time in PD community - they probably can recognize who I'm talking about)
1:09:40 - I don't think it's Eric though, since the beta voice doesn't sound like him at all. Either it's a good acting by Eric's part or most likely - it's a placeholder voice due to Simon Kerr being unavaiable for one reason or another.
22:32 I think they are separate people from the first movie. If you kill them, instead of taking them to the van. You hear Bain sometimes saying something along the lines of "That's all John's been talking about after he saw that disgusting video."
oh hey i’m not the only one who was a little bothered by the fire death screams
I avoid using flamethrower or anything that sets enemies on fire. My personal geneva convention rule
*i enjoy it*
I was surprised no Payday icebergs mention Simon Viklund almost being a heister and actually already having a complete voice pack for it (in PDTH)
Also, for Bobblehead Bob, not mentioned directly, but he actually appears in the Big Bank heist, complete with the achievement Backing Bobblehead Bob which needs you to tie him up and bring him to the vault during the heist.
Comically large toothbrush?
only in payday 2
There's a comically large spoon now too. It's a melee weapon, and if you get 100 kills with it you get a golden version. It's got the best stats in the game for a melee weapon.
@@championdonut235 I'd love to get my hands on it, but i'm on console. It's a sad day for people like me
That's a shame. I hope that overkill decide to go back to console edition again, I'm sure a large part of the community would be grateful.
@@championdonut235 I agree. Overkill has been pretty alright in regards to updating the console version of Payday 2, just not as good as PC. People were pretty happy about getting things like crime spree and stuff. Although it is a shame, i'm sure Overkill will get around to updating a few things here and there.Heres to hoping for the best and hoping we get the spoon.
Overkill: “we cant add a izhma drum mag because the engine wont let us”
Also Overkill in Butcher’s BBQ pack: aa12 drum go bufbufbufbufbufubfufbufbufbufubufubf

Might you explain this rabbit hole
@@evagineer9165 It’s a super early prototype for PD:TH that a few screenshots and details have leaked about, the screenshots are in a pretty early state (unfinished models, no textures, etc) and pretty eerie to look at
I can hear the audio of jacket saying “corpse outstretched”
10:08 if you look at guards outfits the badges say "Clone (name) F4-D"
The ricochet mini guns refer to the April fools event where the mini guns would shoot so many bullets that it would crash servers and give you a lil light show
The chains is in a pickle vl hasn't been removed, I still hear it from time to time
I love the consistency of the tiers
“Yeah the gang probably caused two whole apocalypses. But you can’t find hostage rescue teams anymore either”
I believe the line "Your name is not Jacket" from the prison nightmare heist refers to the fact that the name Jacket was given to the character by the fans and was never his official name until Hotline Miami 2.
Fun fact: Bill from LEFT 4 DEAD is in the elevator in the no mercy heist in the beginning
I’d say Rust was just born during the time to have the mercury symbol, considering it’s the actual mercury symbol and not the trans logo.
Also, Mercury/Mercurius has ties to speed / going fast.. Suits a biker.
I thought he was a space cat damn
@@JG-tr8ph
Also Mercury is tied to travel (fits a bikers lifestyle) and is tied to short distances (melee weapon). Also symbolizes family ties and loved ones
Also the mercury symbol is associated with genderfluid, not transgender
It also has applications in alchemy, and the symbol appears a few times in the cagliostro manuscript (the guide of bain)
@@KaptainRaptor Well, genderfluid is a non-binary identity, and non-binary is a type of transgender identity
“The maniac has a spoon!”
The tale of bobblehead bob is really wholesome. Going from a helping hand to a bar tender in the actual safehouse
Lots of things including Pro Jobs, HRT’s, tier bonuses, etc. still exist on PS3 version of PD2.
Have to point out- Eric Etebari IS dallas' current voice and actor. The beta voice is someone different.
I have "The Pen" melee weapon. Got it with Payday 2: The Big Score. Said it's with the John wick set.
Id like the actually confirm something!
I heard the "Chains is in a pickle" voice line today
@Tayson Smart we now know that the line was not removed, just very rare to get, as stated in the video
I got it too like right now
Maybe Ricochet miniguns is talking about how when you shoot the minigun at a corpse for a couple of seconds, the bullets will ricochet off of it and hit someone else, or someone else has already answered this.
Counterfeit stealth was not patched. It was simply made more difficult. Also, crime war's development has started again.
Its a pity that such a well put-together video only has so few views. This is an excellent video. Props.
I love how the real dev team for paid is surround by real heists and people stealing money that’s got be ironic
The cop clone army theory also is supported by a stocks list showing “clone a cop” is down
I'm still upset that counterfeit was patched without the same treatment Mallcrasher got.
14:55 its about prima aprilis joke in payday 2 that makes minigun shoot richochet bullets , GeneralMcBadass made video about it
the duplication glitch works really well if your internet is subpar
correction: vlad sometimes does still show up in your safehouse after completion of golden grin and the diamond, and there are other references to Hoxton's name being Jim Hoxworth from the Elephant and the butler. well vlad shows up in mine periodically in the bar area.
For Rust's throwing axes it's more likely that it's just a nod to the god Mercury who used to be a symbol of wealth
1:22 'You're saving Hoxton as Hoxton'
Because the only one that can save you in life, is yourself...
I never realized the irony of Overkill being raided by the police. It took me like 3 years to get it. Smfh
The minigun thing is basically a delay minigun shots because I have the gun and shot a floor to test it and was delayed
"Old meth formula" reminds me that I once read that they had intended for the cooking mechanic to be far more complicated, with well over 3 ingredients, and maybe even a dozen steps.
as a guy who’s 100%’d payday 2 many times with new updates rolling out years ago, i’m happy i know a lot of these
39:59 actually it would make more sense that they'd use the diamond of it's a Lazer drill since actual diamond tipped drills can't cut through tough metals because it'd shatter on the pressure but if they used it for the lense of the drill that'd work
the whole lone wolf thing? i feel like they somehow found out about it, but i really dont think it was ulf, wasnt the whole crimefest idea of skins made by liongamelion and bo? why would it randomly blame almir for everything? it doesnt make exact sense.
also i think the missing HRT units is a broken code that they never fixed (not surprised)
14:50 IIRC during one of april fools updates they added a perk deck that had richochet ability and it was best used with the minigun. This lasted for a day, the joke perk deck was removed...
Literally in the hoxton breakout trailer i remember dallas refers to hoxton as jim
36:45 another H.P lovecraft is “Chains” having the same name as Lovecrafts cats name.

one possibility for duke being a time traveler is that on certain heists, I'm not sure which ones exactly, but I know he says it on no mercy, voice lines like "I feel like I'm not supposed to be here" or something like that
No mercy, bring duke as teammate and you will get the dialog in the opening
Anyone ever wondered what happened with the PayDay crew when Left 4 Dead happened since they were basically responsible for the virus?
I thought the hostage rescue team were the old Payday The heist FBI agents

Fun fact about "hostages can save you". On the big bank heist trailer, you can see a hostage saving dallas. So the trailer is now obsolete, lol
