Closed ShopRite in Newburgh, NY

- This ShopRite closed down in September 2021. The label scar of the sign is pretty much visble but the logos were taken off. Everything was gutted out of here and it was one of the smallest ShopRites I have ever filmed. This building looks like it could have been here since the 70s or 80s just by looking at the outside decor.

Memories ,my Wife worked there, and a few friends Duane, Randy and Sarge this store was smaller than the one in Vails Gate which had Caldor next to it, the one on 17k was cool there was a pizza spot and Zayre's in that plaza
Yeah, I filmed that abandoned Kmart in Vails Gate that used to be a Caldor back in the day
Really love this store very sweet people used to work here used to go to that store growing up and still did today it closed

This Shop Rite was on North Plank Road
Ocean State Job Lot apparently looks to be taking over the space now as I read online
This ShopRite was such a dump by the time it closed. No idea why they let it linger. They renovated the ShopRite in Vails Gate a couple times since it opened and it's still the busiest grocery store in town.
I think the nail in the coffin for this store was when the Price Chopper in Newburgh got it's major renovation and became a Market 32. After that why would anyone want to shop at a place that looks like this?
As far as I know, there hasn't been and remains no plans to open another ShopRite in Newburgh. This location is now an Ocean State Job Lot.
This location was one of the smallest ShopRites I have ever seen. If they were to open up a new one, it definitely has to be in a better location where they can make a lot of profit and has to be a bigger one too
@@TimurD1905 It was tiny! In particular I’m glad you focused on the entrance because it was a major pain! Imagine they had that tiny space filled with whatever things they had on special and wanted to have displayed, so there’s just barely enough room to get your cart through it. So then as people are entering they see stuff there and stop to look at it. Completely blocks the entrance and you’re standing there waiting behind someone who can’t decide if they want the entenmanns chocolate chip cookies or the little Debbie brownies. This was particularly frustrating for me because I was doing Instacart at the time (the only reason I would’ve gone to this location) and time was money!
@@padensplace That's not a good look, I agree with you on the entrance situation of the store. Should have kept that space clear and have the specials and what not laid out where they had enough space for customers to walk thru. Too congested of an area when you bombard the entrance area like that
I Know This Shoprite Is Now A Job Lot And another Thing I Know That Subway Is Now Closed Is Going To Be Open Again Because The Roof Was Dropping And Family Dollar Is Closed

My suggestion , put abandoned shop rite and family dollar in same video.
Like how WallieB26 does sometimes put couple places abandoned in same video/ also the whole shopping center in same video
Sometimes I do that, sometimes not. I did film the Family Dollar in a separate video though, I'll take your advice in future videos

I don't recall this one. The one I knew and frequented back in the 1980s was located on 17k.
Do you mean Route 17? And what town was that ShopRite in?
@@TimurD1905 we always referred to it as 17K. It was located in Newburgh, because of where we lived we accessed it from Stewart Avenue.
All the carts were on the other side with the signs were that's the way you would come in and the way are your standing towards the end that's where you come out

This used to be my local ShopRite and it Closed so I had to go to the new Paltz ShopRite.
The New Paltz ShopRite looks so similar to this Newburgh one, in terms of how old the building looks from the outside.
Across the street is an abandon blockbuster

Key Bank closed that location that is a beverage place where you see the U-Haul truck
I noticed the bank was closed there but didn't film it, maybe some other time

For Some reason, The Family Dollar Trailers are Still There.

They were probably gonna open a new one because this one is outdated and small, usually the case for most of these ShopRites that close down
The store inside was kind of really bad they couldn't upgrade it plus it's a small ShopRite most ShopRite are big they are looking to rebuild once they find a spot
Suggestions you shop at the one in Vails Gate for the time being
Wrong this used to be a swamp it was built in like the 60s a little boy died they drowned in the swamp it was always ShopRite Family Dollar moved over to Big Lots parking lot right near Price Chopper

Yeah my bad brother just had a bunch of things that I couldn't say all at once as I read the comments however yeah I do live in Newburgh but that's what happened and if you're ever in this area and ever want a little more information hit me up thanks for chatting brother
There’s a trail on the opposite side of the parking lot. Goes up into the neighborhoods behind the shopping center. Late 90’s early 00’s we terrorized that poor plaza as kids. Blew up the trash can by the subway (used to be a pizza joint). Get drunk behind the shop rite and and get free cold pizza..
20 degrees, drunk, walking the lot eating cold pizza.. no better way to spend your teens.
