Donna Summer is one of the most underrated singers ever. She was untouchable in her prime. Her harmonies for "I feel love" are extraordinary. As she aged she adapted perfectly to her range unlike so many singers today that don't want to accept that they can't hit the notes they used to. Truly one of the best. RIP to the Queen.
This was Donna's last mini concert before she died and what a remarkable 'last dance' it was. Her voice matured like a fine wine and her musical interpretive wit was classy and confident. She was far more than just a disco singer. RIP
@@wonderboyjoy Disco quickly became a very trite, calculated sell out genre. Donna was far more than that. Last time I checked she was nominated in 5 different genres for the Grammys
@@popland1977 LOL, sorry not ! Disco era was from 74/75 to 80. And although the rockers and the radio dj's at the time, most of them rockers, tried to put it to bed, dance music made a huge comeback in 83/84 and was a dominate pop genre for years to come. Donna kicked the door down for artists to build careers on dance music... especially females. She was pop music's first female mega star dominating the charts and selling millions world wide, and she didn't fade away with the disco era. Her problems were with her record company (Geffen) and the false rumours of homophobic remarks (83), which got her black balled from mainstream pop radio in the US from the mid 80's.
She was already sick with lung cancer ((I believe) here and she was already in her 60s. What a powerful voice!! She puts all other divas to shame!!! It was so easy for her.
I believe you're correct. She was in her early 60s and probably already diagnosed with lung cancer. Still, she turned it out, bringing down the house. Very few divas were/are that powerful and reliable vocally. I was thrilled to see this video and to have read your comment. And she made it look effortless.
If someone is going to do a tribute series, Donna Summer is literally the first person I'd think of. Not only did she have an incredible voice, she had such a warmth and fierce intelligence in her performances. It really hit me hard when she died; I kept hoping she would release another album after "Crayons", which I still listen to now. She was truly a legend, and I am thankful for everything she did release.
Such an iconic vocalist who had such incredible songs, vocals and had made such an impact on music! She kept her voice as good as it’s peak since the 70’s and is better than almost every singer in this day! We miss you Donna
Absolutely LOVE Donna Summer!!! She had the most AMAZING voice EVER!! I never feel like she got the TRUE recognition she deserved in her life, not only for disco music but for rock, pop, R&B, soul and more. There was just nothing she couldn’t sing! I saw her in concert many times and her vocals were just effortless!! She would sound as good live, if not better, as she did on her CDs and records! She would hit those high notes and just hold them for just forever!! You’d just be in awe of her range!! Before Whitney, Mariah and Beyoncé there was Donna Summer. How unfortunate that she was FINALY inducted into the Rock & Roll hall of Fame, but sadly only after her untimely death from lung cancer. She was one of the first female performers to have a wide variety of musical styles and influences on the same album and broke down so many barriers when people wanted her to put her in a box as just a “disco” singer. Her music will live on forever and it’s so very sad she died WAY to soon. I really feel she didn’t get the recognition for the unbelievably talented singer, song writer and artist that she was. There will never be another singer like Donna Summer. RIP. 💗
Donna Summer was often dismissed as "just a disco singer". She was of course much more than that. She was a successful musical theatre performer long before her disco days. Donna is one of the few artists who could effortlessly recreate her studio sound in a live setting. She was a fantastic performer Sadly we rarely ever saw Donna perform on UK TV in her 70s heyday or any live touring. This particular song, Last Dance is one of her better known recordings yet it was a flop in the UK failing to crack the Top 40. It was not playlisted by BBC Radio 1 which back in the 70s was the kiss of death. The pianist in this clip is David Foster, one of the greatest record producer/musician/arrangers who works with all the greats, Streisand, Celine, Whitney, Buble to name but a few. This is a masterclass in singing. Nothing over the top, controlled, in key, in time, no ridiculous shrieking, trills and runs ruining the performance. No need for dancers or other pyrotechnics to distract from the vocals. Donna was worthy of the title Disco Diva.
I think the best part was also seeing the musicians really comfortable and enjoying playing the orchestration. The orchestration is such an important part of this music genre, and it's so nice to see the musicians having fun with it and supporting the vocals.
Beauty, Class, Elegance, Professional and one of the greatest female vocalists of her generation. Never heard her hit a bad note, or be off key. She was way more than a disco singer, not even close. She was a world class vocalist who had many (so called) disco hits.
How incredibly bittersweet this performance is knowing that she is ill. This is how it's done when you are one of the TRULY great entertaining talents. She knew she was ill but still gave an amazing last moment for us all to remember, who love her. DS will always be the top female vocalist for me. An inspiration for us all, no matter what we do in life. Saw her live countless times and was never disappointed, ever. One show she was trying to sit on a stool that was not set at the right height prior to show, and she kept sliding off and she commented, "It's all those mashed potatoes"! Think it was Atlantic City !1993-94. Thankyou Honest Coach for helping us to not forget. My 3rd youtube comment :) Honest Coach, have you seen her sing McArthur Park live and see how far back she pulls the mic away from her during the highest note, because of the power in her voice? I bet you have! Peace everyone! Night Of The Proms 2005 is a great one to watch if you have not seen it yet!
Thank you for critiquing one of the best voices of our time. As you stated, this is how it's done. What I admired about Donna from #Lovetoloveyoubaby to #ThistimeIknowitsforreal was her versatility. She sounded different in every song, and her voice was wonderful up till the end. Unlike Mariah, Whitney or Celine who were recognizable in their songs, Donna was like an actor who sang; tailoring her voice to service the song, not singing every song the same. She never got the due she deserved, being relegated to the Disco genre. Even in her 60s she still had her voice.
She really DID NOT take care of her voice. however that is kind of a testament of how good her voice was. That it can sound this good after the smoking, touring and possibly coke and then aging. What a set of pipes. Oh, and coming from a religious background has nothing to do with whether someone would do coke or not as someone mentioned. It certainly didn't stop her from having a very sexy image.
You are so right. Donna Summer was the disco era. I remember whenever they'd play that song at a high school dance, that literally meant it was the last song of the night, and everyone would scramble to get that last dance in.
her voice was literally a gift from god: "When I first started singing, I sang and people made fun of me all the time. They teased me and kinda thought I was comical because I sorta sound like Alfalfa. So I asked God to teach me how to sing and He did. I know it sounds bizarre to people but I just prayed and said 'God, show me how to sing' and something came into my mind and I did it. And when I finished doing it I could sing." - Donna Summer, 1999.
Hi Georgina, 🙏🏼 we need more Donna Summer reactions.. just because she’s past doesn’t mean you can’t react. She was the Queen of 70s & 80s POP music and deserves to be heard . Thank you! 👍🏼
The volume of her voice, the weight of it. The wonderful transitions. In this video, at 60 something years, she was still belting like when she was young. Donna and Aretha KNEW how to take care of their voices. One of a few female voices that could do any genre of music. Her legacy and influence is beyond words. Thank you for the video.

Donna Summer was my Idol! I have loved her ever since I heard I FEEL LOVE in 1977 when I was 13 years old. I grew up listening to her songs and bought every record, 12" single and CD I could get my hands on. I was able to attend many of her concerts in the 90's-2000's and she was consistently impeccable singing Live! Being a DJ for 30 years I was always excited when she would release a new song, and playing it watching the dance floor fill up and people filled with joy while dancing to her music is something I will always remember. RIP Donna and thanks for the amazing Music!
Everytime I hear Donna Summer's songs especially her song Last Dance her voice gives me goosebumps. She had an incredibly talented and powerful voice. She was absolutely the queen of disco. I wish she was still alive I would have loved to have seen her in concert. I've been a fan of hers since I was a teenager.
I was fortunate enough to see her in concert she had a wonderful voice none of that computer inhances you hear today she could truly sing such a BEAUTIFUL lady left us to early .R.I.P Miss summers.
I got the chills from that performance. I remember her singing that song in the movie "Thank God It's Friday" when I was a kid. I fell in love with her voice from that point on.
For those who doesn't know, this was a PBS television special, Hitman Returns: David Foster and Friends. It was recorded in Las Vegas, Nevada in October 2010. So at the time Donna Summer was 62 years old. She was born in 1948. She died in 2012. This song is one of my all time favorites, it brings back so many wonderful memories. I almost cried. There was only one disco queen. No one comes close. She will be forever in our hearts. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Saaaaaaannnng Ms. Donna Summer!!! Gorgeous poignant performance here❤❤. The saaaanging Disco legend queen.❤❤❤ Those iconic legends sure know how it is done, period!! I Love how you do a tribute to the legends and not an analysis bc they do not need an analysis from anyone!!
Not until you verbalize how effortless her range and transitions are did I truly appreciate her beautiful, special voice. Just simply the musical songs itself are fabulous let alone her fantastic voice. And her smile is so nice. She was an artist in the vortex zone of pleasure.
OMG!!! Takes me back to the days!! She was such a great singer!!! She performed this song in a completely silly but super popular fun disco movie called “Thank God it’s Friday” which I went and saw about a zillion times, and after that the world fell in love with DONNA and so did I!!! We lost her far too soon. 😔❤️❤️❤️🙌🙌🙌
I assume she uploaded this today on purpose, cause in case you didn't know today is Donna's death anniversary. I loved your reaction to this wonderful performance of the great Donna Summer! as you said: That's how is done!
Oh Georgina! You have reviewed one of my very favorites here. Donna Summer was so gorgeous and as iconic an American woman as ever there was. I have adored her since I was about 6 or 7 years old. I would stare at her picture in the late 70's on the cover of all those iconic albums that my older sisters' had, a little Roman Catholic white boy in the NYC area, completely enraptured and inspired and in love with her. And her voice! Oh God, you know?....Whitney Houston had so much in common with her and her impact. May she Rest in Peace, bathed in God's light. Thank you for this. Very moved seeing this. :) Johnny
Thank you so much for doing Donna! She’s in my Top 3 fave singers ever! She died today, seven years ago. I was so heartbroken cuz she had just released a wonderful album of eclectic songs a few years before and I was in heaven she was back after so many years. Sadly, Crayons was her last album.
And her voice got better and better as she got older which is not always the case. Compare her singing from the seventies till later and the advancements in her tone and technique are incredible. It also got much deeper and more resonant.
You read my mind, Georgina! I was thinking of singers of 70's and here you are! Donna Summer is one of my favourite ever. Karen Carpenter, Olivia Newton John, Carol King, Agnetha Fältskog and Frida Lyngstad (the girls of Abba) are good choices for you to react.
She had stage 4 lung cancer at the time of this performance. I dont know how she is singing when it's so difficult for people with stage 4 lung cancer to even speak
With God's help. But you can also notice that her resonance decreased this is the cancer affecting it. However her voice and belting is out of this world. The perfection in her technique enables her to perform like this and sound like this even at the age of 70 other singers cannot sound like this anymore. Praise God
Donner Summer's voice was absolutely amazing,
World Class platinum singer!

Donna Summer the disco queen. Many a night spent dancing to this talented lady’s tunes! I loved this! Thank you.
Amazing underrated classic Donna
DONNA!!!!!!!! My first diva!. Thank you so much for this!
one of the best voices of all time ... thanks for this!
Agreed. I recall her from my teens. Happy memories before life really started😁
Dear God I didn't realise she was so good live. Goosebumps. 💖
She was truly amazing x
Not until you verbalize how effortless her range and transitions are did I truly appreciate her beautiful, special voice. Just simply the musical songs itself are fabulous let alone her fantastic voice. And her smile is so nice. She was an artist in the vortex zone of pleasure.
OMG!!! Takes me back to the days!! She was such a great singer!!! She performed this song in a completely silly but super popular fun disco movie called “Thank God it’s Friday” which I went and saw about a zillion times, and after that the world fell in love with DONNA and so did I!!! We lost her far too soon. 😔❤️❤️❤️🙌🙌🙌
YES, DONNA. ONE OF THE BESTS.
How wonderful and how sad at the same time. Such a strong vocalist till the end. ❤️
In short : perfection!
“MacArthur Park” by Donna Summer will end this Diva debate once-and-for-all!
The queen of disco music!!!!
I assume she uploaded this today on purpose, cause in case you didn't know today is Donna's death anniversary. I loved your reaction to this wonderful performance of the great Donna Summer! as you said: That's how is done!
Thank you so much for doing that for me. Her voice just matured so beautifully the rich deep dark textures her voice got better with age.
She was so underrated. Her voice was beautiful and so very powerful. She preserved it very well. Rip.
Beautiful lady really could sing
:) Johnny
My favorite song all times. That song just makes me happy all the time.
She is not screaming. She is singing and belting. Watch this Christina Aguilera!!
And also it's a pure soul not fake soul 😂
Lol. Ouch. Good one. 🌳🕶
Exactly, no showing off everytime you have a mic in your hand.
Hahaha. Exactly. I’m with you. Hate all the screaming out there.
So good! That tone! Tears :(
You are totally on point about the Queen of Disco. I love Donna Summer . She 's one of the female vocalist ever, definitely an ICON !!!!!!
One of the best voices so underated!💖
Love Donna
You read my mind, Georgina! I was thinking of singers of 70's and here you are! Donna Summer is one of my favourite ever. Karen Carpenter, Olivia Newton John, Carol King, Agnetha Fältskog and Frida Lyngstad (the girls of Abba) are good choices for you to react.
You just mentioned some of my favourites, specially the ABBA ladies...thank you!
hard to believe she died from lung cancer yet was still singing like this.
💔
She had stage 4 lung cancer at the time of this performance. I dont know how she is singing when it's so difficult for people with stage 4 lung cancer to even speak
She took care of her voice
With God's help. But you can also notice that her resonance decreased this is the cancer affecting it. However her voice and belting is out of this world. The perfection in her technique enables her to perform like this and sound like this even at the age of 70 other singers cannot sound like this anymore. Praise God
