Donna left us way too soon, she was only 63, you are loved and missed by millions Donna, rest in God's care Donna. Just wonderful seeing Richard playing the piano, excellent performance.
This made me cry. The power of her vocals is unsurpassed. She never even squints, it just blows the roof off. Been loving her since I first heard Love to Love You Baby. She was never as fabulous as when she broke away from the record labels, although she was absolutely fabulous from the start. I'm so lucky to have been born into her musical era. What a loss for us still here.
I was able to see Donna sing this tribute live here in L.A. in 2010. I remember having goose bumps the entire time she sang. Her voice was out of this world. There will never be another voice like hers.
Rare, beautiful and iconic. I had tears in my eyes in the end...Richard Carpenter on the piano & Donna Summer singing lead on an anthem from the early 1970's.
I can't imagine another singer who could have done justice to the powerhouse that was Karen Carpenter. Donna Summer was in a class by herself and not only had the vocals, especially in the lower register, but also the respect and class to pull this off. It's really sad that these two great ladies left us in a world of Katy Perry's and Taylor Swift's.
The 3 GREATEST female vocalists to come out of the '70's: Karen Carpenter, Linda Ronstadt, and Donna Summer. All had great range and powerful voices and could make you shiver when they sang. They are so close in my mind, all legendary. I hate comparing them, but I have to give a slight edge to Donna!! There will NEVER be another like her. NEVER! She was the G.O.A.T (the greatest of all time.)
Such a beautiful woman and a lovely voice. Donna has been in the music business for decades, yet she looks more beautiful than ever in 2010. What a great career from disco to contemporary music.
WHY ON EARTH DID I WATCH THIS! IM A CRYING MESS NOW,BECAUSE HEARING DONNA SING A SONG LIKE THIS IS A REMINDER OF HOW GREAT SHE WAS & I CRY BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE HER HERE IN THIS LIFE TO SOOTH ME WITH HER VOICE. SHE WAS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE A VOICE THAT WILL NEVER BE MATCHED I LOVE YOU MY DONNA DEAREST!
i feel your pain my friend,i am crying also,it took me 2 years to listen to Donna,s music after she passed.stay strong and keep being that great friend unknown.peace to you my friend.
The ABSOLUTE BEST tribute to Karen! There are so few singers who would even try to sing this, never mind pull it off! This would be the perfect song at the Kennedy Center Honors with Karen in the audience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Donna Summer had the quality of voice that she could sing just about anything. She could hit low notes, she could hit high notes, and she could hold notes out. She was a perfect choice for this song, and what a great tribute to Karen Carpenter, and the chance to perform with Richard Carpenter. That said, Richard was twacked out and I hope he gets help and lives his best life until the final curtain comes down.
Donna if you read this, we need you to release an album of old standard like this song. No one can reach your level when it comes to dance songs that now have become evergreen. Your voice has such range and strenght still, please give to your fans who still adore you a bit more of summer to come home to. Bring joy and love to our hearts once again, please!!
I forgot how the original version sounded, mainly because of the Luther Vandross arrangement, but Donna did a great job. The horns made it feel vintage and as classic as songs go.
Donna's version here was fairly close to the Carpenters. Even her vocal tempo was very good. I thought maybe DS would sing it a bit too fast. But she pleasantly surprised me...🎤🎶🙂
Lovely! "You said you'd be coming back this way, baby!" Wished you'd come back this way, Donna. but you were needed in God's heaven and you now join Karen as you sing this to us from your new home. So very awesome to see Richard again. The orchestra was really feeling this one. Thanks for sharing. Great clip!
If there is a heaven, can you imagine all of the great singers performing in harmony - that's an angelic chorus, for sure (Etta James, Donna Summer, Karen Carpenter, Janis Joplin, Sarah Vaughn, Billy Holiday, Amy Winehouse, Judy Garland, on & on & on....)
Donna was capable of so much more than Neil Bogart allowed her to display on record- she was able to sing songs other than her hits in concert though. What her fans would have loved from her would've been an album of 70's classics. This song above, "Superstar", along with songs by Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Roberta Flack, Chaka Khan, etc., would have been great to hear. Of course, to cover all bases, she would've had to include a bonus disc of dance versions of those songs, but I wouldn't have complained. I always wanted her to do dance versions of "My Knight In Black Leather" (sung by Bonnie Tyler, then covered by Bette Midler), and of course- her own mega extended version of "The Main Event". : )
Wow!! Donna Summer could sing ANYTHING...and make it sound FANTASTIC!! One of the greatest female vocalists of our time...Who STILL doesn't get the credit she deserves. Glad I was able to be alive and a kid in the late 70s when I first became entranced with that wondrous voice. Disco may have boxed her in perhaps..But to anyone with a discerning ear you could tell and hear she was vocally gifted. Up there with Aretha, Whitney, Gladys and the rest. And sounded even better live than she did on her records which were wonderful. The family really should put together a compilation of some of her live performances of classic standards like A Song For You, God Bless The Child, The Impossible Dream, Gone Too Soon, Amazing Grace, Celebrate Me Home, Natural Woman, Pearls...and more that I personally witnessed her sing live over the years and was just blown away by. Even this song with Richard Carpenter would be a nice video addition with the original audio from The Hollywood Bowl. She did Karen more than proud. Someone should do the same for Donna!! 🧡💛
Her 1980 ABC TV Special was recorded at The Hollywood Bowl. I saw her perform there in 2008 when she was promoting her new album Crayons. The place was PACKED!! The security guards were saying they hadn't seen the place this alive in ages. Two years later she was inducted into The Hollywood Bowl Hall Of Fame. This was part of her performance that night where The Carpenters were also inducted. What a wonderful melding of two of the most popular artists of the 70's era that night. She also sang Nature Boy and a medley of her hits. She was introduced that night by producer David Foster to rapturous applause. I believe that video is on TH-cam somewhere. They really should release some of these classic moments on her official page with the original audio. I was there and it sounded so fantastic with a live orchestra. God Bless You, Donna...You were one of a kind!! ❤❤
Life is so precious you appreciate it while it is here. When it’s gone it’s gone. No angels. No mythical man in the clouds. Period. So appreciate the talent while still alive knowing their recordings will live on.
Hermosa y Única la Interpretacion de esta Inolvidable y Exitosa Canción de los Carpenters,,la Audiencia lo ha Reconocido y Nosotros sus Fans también,,Viva la Reina Donna Summer,,Siempre Vivirá en Nuestros Corazones 💖💞💝💘💌🙏🙏🙌🙌🇵🇷🇵🇷💋
That was Karen's brother, Richard, that came out and sat down down at the piano. What a effing treat for everyone. I thought the music was really spot on when it started. Of course it was. Richard was the arranger of all their music. I'm stoked..
Donna I hope for all your fans u finish ur standard album n dance album because u truly sound so Amazing in this rendition of Karen Carpenter Superstar!! May u both R.I.P missing you.......
Thank God we have several great recordings / videos of this. I was there that night but my memory card maxed out just as this started. I hate when that happens.
When Karen talked to record producer Phil Ramone about what kind of songs she wanted to record for her solo album, she specifically cited Donna Summer and "Hot Stuff" and how much she would love to do a song like that.
THE WORLD HAS LOST ANOTHER GREAT SINGER,BUT SHE IS SINGING TO HIGHER AUDIENCE,NOW! SHE IS SINGING WITH A HIGHER CHOIR!! MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE FEMALE VOCALIST OF "MY GENERATION"!!! I'M SO DISTRAUGHT,I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE'S GONE. (MY IDOL)>>>R.I.P

Goose bumps....all over... from Donna's First note
Donna is once again outstanding. Miss her so much.
Just short of miraculous. I hope all those in attendance realize how blessed you are to have been there.
I was able to see Donna sing this tribute live here in L.A. in 2010. I remember having goose bumps the entire time she sang. Her voice was out of this world. There will never be another voice like hers.
Did she say, "It's getting cold up here"?
2022. Still perfection
Rare, beautiful and iconic. I had tears in my eyes in the end...Richard Carpenter on the piano & Donna Summer singing lead on an anthem from the early 1970's.
Donna's one of the best. RIP
Miss Summer's voice went from soft to majestic.
This is great even Donna herself loved the Carpenters like all of us did.😁
I can't imagine another singer who could have done justice to the powerhouse that was Karen Carpenter. Donna Summer was in a class by herself and not only had the vocals, especially in the lower register, but also the respect and class to pull this off. It's really sad that these two great ladies left us in a world of Katy Perry's and Taylor Swift's.
I love everything about Donna Summers she sang a beautiful song God bless her
I read somewhere that Karen Carpenter was a big fan of Donna's and wanted to do some "Donna Summer type" songs on her solo album.
Beautiful..she could sing anything. Donna Summer was a tremendous Vocalist and songwriter.
Donna was very special. Loved Karen and she was special too. We lost both too soon ❤️

Agree with you 100%!.. I was there for this night. I had goosebumps the entire time.
Such a beautiful woman and a lovely voice. Donna has been in the music business for decades, yet she looks more beautiful than ever in 2010. What a great career from disco to contemporary music.
God bless you Donna, how unselfish of you and classy of you to give tribute to The Carpenters. RIP sweet lady...
Hopefully Karen and Donna are harmonizing up in heaven together...🎤🙂🎶
This is my favorite song by The Carpenters. I got to see Donna perform this live and it spectacular!
This is so touching because Karen and Donna are my two favorite singers!!!! So when she sings this it's a dream come true!!!
WHY ON EARTH DID I WATCH THIS! This song suits her so much wish she’d have recorded it she’s such a huge loss to the music world
I would have loved to hear Donna sing Rainy days and Mondays by the Carpenters.
One of the Most Awesomenest Covers ever!!!
To see Richard Carpenter playing this again - so haunting - it brought back so many memories of Karen & now both she & Donna are gone.
She sounds perfect here!! This is the way I like her to sing!!
Absolutely awesome performance, amazing vocal from Donna and a great Tribute to Karen.
dang...goosebumps from the very first note
Who the heck is cutting onions, im trying to watch this video 😥
great voice great cover ... makes me sad Karen or Donna are no longer with us...but they are singing with the Angels now!
I love you Donna, Richard was never going to be the same, as is evident here. Miss you as much as Karen, Baby ! !❤
Yeah, what the heck was he doing with all of those faces?!
Karen would be so very proud. Donna did such an awesome job covering this song
j8464m I was going to say the same thing. Karen was smiling down.
Both The Carpenters and Donna Sommer did this as a cover. It is a Delaney and Bonnie song.
Donna Summer had the quality of voice that she could sing just about anything. She could hit low notes, she could hit high notes, and she could hold notes out. She was a perfect choice for this song, and what a great tribute to Karen Carpenter, and the chance to perform with Richard Carpenter.

Yeah, Richard sure looked it!

What a gift they both were...

Donna & Karen singing duets for the angels!

Would make a fabulous duet with Karen and Donna playing two separate women.

Such sad news. I saw Donna perform this set live here in LA. It was amazing.

Not sure about a mythical man in the clouds but Jesus is alive in Heaven, and I'm looking forward to meeting him when it's over.
Donna Summer A True Superstar!!! R.I.P My Beautiful Empress!....
WOW, absolutely amazing!
That's an understatement! 👍🙂
@@kevinlewis7561 She was the best of the best!
Wow ....thank you Donna.
Donna is for me the queen beside Karen...the best two female voices in the world...
Karen would have said.... A Disco Queen? Fabulous! This bought years to my eyes

Donna could make any song sound more vibrant with her unique voice.
Great version by Donna
That took some guts, and she is the lone female singer to pull off singing a Karen Carpenter song. Gress as t tribute!
Wonderful wonderful wonderful.
one hundred percent class....
The both sang forward, with a lot of resonance, and sweetness.
That was Karen's brother, Richard, that came out and sat down down at the piano. What a effing treat for everyone. I thought the music was really spot on when it started. Of course it was. Richard was the arranger of all their music. I'm stoked..
just beautiful,cant say anymore.

The real real queen 👑 RIP my queen 👸 l miss you every day 😢😢😢😢
The Hollywood Bowl didn't even record this to make it available on a cd or anything. Lost opportunity:(
Karen died at 36 while Donna died at 63, may you legends rest peacefully
Now Donna is hanging out with Karen up there.
up where? in the attic?
In heaven.
When Karen talked to record producer Phil Ramone about what kind of songs she wanted to record for her solo album, she specifically cited Donna Summer and "Hot Stuff" and how much she would love to do a song like that.
For eternity ...
PERFECT
