Luigi's Mansion used to have a Chef Ghost that haunted the kitchen area. However, when the game came out, all traces of this ghost were gone. It's uncertain why the chef ghost was deleted, but 20 years later this spirit has been revived in one of the most interesting beta restoration projects to date. the Luigi's Mansion Beta restoration is quite the work of art, so I hope you enjoy.

Awesome Video
Ok
What’s the music at the beginning?
Ok
“We have definitive proof that the chef existed in the kitchen”
Why are we playing Clue all of a sudden?
Great comment dude :)
i think mustard existed in the bedroom

fnaf lore:
Chef Soulffle in Luigi's Mansion 3 appears to have been the successor of this Chef Ghost, or the very least reviving the unused idea.
@@amandaletcher1320 Well he was only the second boss in the game.

yea
THIS is why I love the modding community side of games so much. They can not only make some really cool original works of their own, but they can also turn back time to painstakingly recreate an old E3 demo build of a game and bring back some unused assets that were gone.
We definitely need a remaster of this game that includes all of these deleted ghosts
It would be awesome if they made the Hunter ghost a reality
Luigi's Mansion was already ported to the 3DS just before Luigi's Mansion 3 came out so it's very unlikely Luigi's Mansion will get remaster for the Switch. Maybe it can come back somehow... Virtual Console if that ever happens? Maybe a Luigi's Mansion collection just like Mario and Crash Bandicoot?
The Sneaker like ghosts would have to be toned down though.
@@ElectroBlastLuigi I think he means a fan made one
I would prefer a luigis mansion 2 remaster
I remember when Luigi's Mansion came out and some neighborhood kids who were further in the game than I was would tell me about things later in the game and we would speculate what else could be in it. We were always confused where the waiter ghosts came from during Mr. Luggs' boss fight since they didn't in the kitchen afterwards. Maybe they were also part of the Chef Ghost's boss fight?
I didnt question where how they got in the room, largely because they were ghosts.
I've been following the luigis mansion beta restoration for a while now and I'm so excited to play it
The chef in luigi mansion 3 is the CLOSEST thing to the deleted version in the first game
When you said back to life, I thought you meant actually back to life, and there would just be a guy throwing tomatoes at you in the kitchen.
Equally at home in Mario game
But if he was brought back to life he wouldn’t be a ghost
*We do a little bit of trolling*
@@belion750 Oh no D:

Yo ngl, when i saw this ghost show up in the beta restoration stream i lost my absolute shit
The fact that they managed to bring a back a ghost that was scrapped gives me hope for elh
Yes. *BRING BACK ELH!*
@Dr. Cool they could make textures for elh
@Dr. Cool What if that's closer to how elh's meant to be? :0 What if he's goo like and pure ectoplasm ?
The Luigi's Mansion videos you do are always my favorites!
Reminds me of the glorious times of my childhood! Luigi's Mansion was peak for sure!
Thanks Swanky!
I wish I could have had the opportunity to play the original Luigi's Mansion. I wasn't born yet back then, but the game looked really cool. And the endings! They really reward you based on how much money you grab throughout the adventure, which could go from a tent to an even BIGGER mansion!
Luigi's Mansion 3 more or less had a similar ending system, but there were only three endings instead of more than 5
Some of the ghosts I never fully knew of
I can't belive that luigikid commented on this video.
Hey Luigikid!
Same
And that's why tossing tomatoes like a peasant in the stocks will always be one of my Pixel Portals.
I’m gonna be real here, it probably would’ve been the most forgettable boss in terms of it’s design.
Makes me glad that we got a more proper chef ghost in Luigi’s Mansion 3.
I mean, it was the Beta version. It most likely wasn't going to be the final design.
@@ianfinrir8724 fair point, but supposedly there’s footage of Lydia and she has her final design.
Maybe this isn't even how it was intended, like tomatoes could have stayed rolling on the floor and homing for Luigi. More health (if they actually were going to make him a boss of that area since that place's actual boss had more health) heck. He could have even been planned to have a different reaction to missing a throw, what if they wanted to give him an attack where he went into a fit of rage if he missed? Like going berserk with a kitchen utensil, because I'm sure as they developed more. Bosses or ghosts would have been seeming too similar, so they'd be tweaked or buffed 🤷🏻♂️
Yesssssss
That chef may have been the ghost they were gonna give us?
Hey Swanky, did you hear about how the Luigi’s Mansion microgame in WarioWare has beta textures in the files yet?
Thats InTeReStInG 🤔
That's such a random find they HAD to have put it in on purpose

FINALLY! I’ve been waiting for a new Luigi’s Mansion video.
Honestly, the "this was some weird mental feeling," is how I felt when I checked the beta of Ocarina of Time. For me, that Zelda game was Swanky's Luigi Mansion. I almost felt like I shouldn't be seeing it. I shouldn't be playing it... I SHOULDN'T be THERE. Like I'd stumbled across some ancient relic that was just... not supposed to be seen by common eyes. It was a feeling that I simply can't explain, and yet, at the same time, it was a magical feeling. I don't know if I'm one of the weirdos like Swanky here, but it was a sensation that I wish I could forget so I could experience it all over again.
as a diehard luigi's mansion fan i 100% understand the feelings youre describing. very cool video and good narration
Yep, they freed this ghost from it’s static prison only to be sucked up by the player again. Irony hath no fury.
Like a child bored
He eventually became Chef Soufflé in Luigi's Mansion 3
6:22 Did you know the FLUDD is called "Dreckweg" (wich is something like rubbish away) and the Poltergust is called "Schreckweg" (wich is fear away)
Ja
Das weiß man
@@nekrophilervorderasiate7092 Natürlich das weiß auch jeder Amerikaner xD
0:54 I did neither as a kid. Instead I got all my news from Nintendo Power and commercials all the way from the late 90's until sometime in the 2010's when I started watching TH-cam. I never even knew there were TV shows dedicated to gaming news until long after they ended. Probably because we were too poor to afford cable or internet (Aside from the occasional AOL free internet disc) when I was a kid so we had to make do with the basic free channels back when those were still a thing.
Is it me or the Chef ghost looks like a radish ? Btw, good video !👍
Thank you so much Swanky !!!! I really appreciate it massively! ♥♥♥
Seems similar to the mansion 3 ghost. Who also throws tomatoes. And also fish.
Bro, always a treat when swanky posts about Luigi’s mansion
For a moment i thought modders restored the chef ghost back into the game, instead of being modded in with assumptions.
It's still pretty neat though.
I wish I had a time machine
I would time travel to get literally all the beta versions of the games
Its so interesting to see how they started
I like watching your videos. I love finding mysterys about my favorite games.
YES ANOTHER LUIGI’S MANSION VIDEO
Luigi’s Mansion will always be the best of the trilogy.
I know that the Nintendo power blurb is fake but I feel like a safari ghost may have been planned. A safari room seems awfully specific.
On a similar note, I bet there was going to be a knight in the armory
If only the E3 demos of Luigi's Mansion were leaked with the gigaleak.
This and the E3 2010 version of paper mario 3DS should have been leaked
Thank you so much for using my Beta E3 Music restored version!
1:00 Man I miss those days, I enjoyed looking at compressed images on IGN so much. I remember being so hyped for Ratchet and Clank 3, I kept looking at the compressed preview video of the tyrannoid mother boss fight.
I'm a person who loves recording places and things. But then I didn't get my 3DS until 2011 I was unable to record some stuff such as the old McDonald's with its play area and the trees in my yard I wish I could go back in time and re-record those again
Next I'm sure we'll get a huge colab fan made Luigi's Mansion speculative OG version. Where the modders and what not get together and make that free roam outside area, create the outside mystery tunnels of the backyard. Put in what cut ghosts were left out. It'd be absolutely amazing to see and since it's a fan made game that (hopefully) wouldn't set a deadline for itself. That could be an awesome project to work on and make friends with 🤷🏻♂️
And before I get a few "well actually" comments. Obviously I don't expect it to happen, as cool as it would be. Nintendo is way too cruel to allow good popular fan games to stick around, so all that effort would just be wasted. *Cough cough* Pokemon uranium
I love the fans of this game! Spectacular work and congrats to these modders on recreating the beta so faithfully. You did a great job reviewing this too, you're my favorite person to watch covering this material because your emotional attachment to it is so very relatable!
Dude. I LOVE your Luigis Mansion videos. Thank you.
Keep going back to this game! I love this channel for revisiting Luigi’s Mansion, one of my all time favorite games.
I’ve always wandered what the chef ghost truly looked like.
You wandered around to know what the Chef Ghost looked like? Weird solution but okay.
Time to inject some more NOSTALGIA strait into my veins!
i have a feeling this ghost was eventually brought back in luigi's mansion 3, as there is a chef ghost which seems to be quite similar to this one, as he could also throw food at you
"I felt like it was the game, but from an alternate dimension"
Judging by how the chef ghost looks, it's a dimension where Mr Lunt died waiting for his cheeseburger, and decided to sprout ghost arms so he could do a tomato attack
Your talking about my favorite childhood show!
That was a cheeseburger? This whole time I thought he was eating a big pile of fried rice
@@williamdrum9899 my comment was a reference to a character from Veggietales who sings a song about waiting all night for a cheeseburger. He looks a lot like the chef ghost.
@@CooperDooper38 Never mind 😅
I love betas for old games like Luigi's mansion, wario land, etc. It just is amazing to see things that were cut from games l. Either leaks or beta footage, i just like it
This is amazing. I love the amount of love and detail a game from 20 years ago still gets to this day.
So glad they brought back the Purple Basher.
Fact: Chef Ghost Quitted His Job To Be A Chef Because His Human Form He Watched Luigi Mansion And Wanted To Be An Enemy Then His Name Was Named Chef Ghost. And Your Videos Are Amazing!
When you see all the unused content in this game, it gives you the impression that it was either very rushed or that ideas were simply dropped for whatever reason (maybe balancing issues or they felt the game was too difficult.) It makes the game feel incomplete, which I guess would explain why it's so short. It's kind of like a lengthy tech demo rather then a full game.
wow cut content is so good in this game!
My jaw was on the floor when I saw that chef ghost.
I love these videos so much. They’re so relaxing and interesting, even if they can be short sometimes they’re just such a pleasure to watch. Keep up the good work!
Wait- a beta concept fully brought back to liiiife?! (/Functioning?!)
If so that’s awesome!
Also I’ve always loved looking up Luigi’s Mansion beta…I dunno why but betas of games always interested me cause they often felt like a whole different game!
And love the part where you just decided to bring up the vase difference XD
I got happy when he started playing the Twisted Suites theme
The chef ghost was maybe a prototype version of the eating ghost. Both have something to do with food. Both are pink and some what fat.
My theory was that originally, to fight the eating ghost you had to catch the chef so that there would be no one to cook more food for the eating ghost
@@williamdrum9899 That would make sense. Maybe they replaced that role with the butler ghost to make it simpler.
I was just a kid when this E3 happened for LM. But, I really felt like I was there experiencing it. Im always poking around seeing the fantastic work of LMFinish, and ita just incredible how a simple ghost that was dropped from the final was brought to life. This is great thank you.
8:40 Hah, he got scared half to death, nice.
I love these types of videos so much
I honestly wish we got to fight the Chef ghost in the full game because it would have been amazing!
That chef ghost looks very creepy.
Id love to see them take things farther! A complete fan take on luigi’s mansion based off the beta as a building block
I love the beta older games started the games test before they came out right now
Every copy of Luigi’s Mansion is personalized
You're voice always brings me back to your video on Dr. Salvador from RE4
OMG THANK YOU FOR THE LINK TO THE DEMO! And please thank the modders as well, I wasn't even bor back then, meaning i would never have had the chance if it were'nt for you and the modders. THANK YOU! Time to go old-school-old-school.
didn't grow up playing this game but this video still felt nostalgic
Neat video! Thanks for uploading!
I remember chuggaaconroy mentioning this ghost in his walkthrough. Nice upload!
I remember sitting at my family computer watching the old footage of the demo on TH-cam when I was about 10-12 years old. I remember thinking it was so cool how different the demo was from the final game, and how I wish it was playable. It feels weird that we have a mod that is not only pretty much a 1:1 recreation of the demo, but it’ll also be released publicly soon.
To turn back time... time...
to the good old day-ayes...
This whole idea is awesome, it's almost digital archaeology. Put together what it would have been like.
There’s a video on TH-cam that actually has 3 seconds of footage containing the Chef Ghost. It also has Eternal Darkness footage, plus more things from the final game that were in the E3 build showing the 3:00 am time.
Link?
Luigi’s Mansion is my favorite video game of all time. I got the Nintendo GameCube & Luigi’s Mansion on Christmas Day back in 2001. Where does the time go? Even after all these years, it’s still a beautiful game. Love the community to that’s been forming around it as well.
swanky box have u heard about the voices in the super paper mario song, river tygx bed
someone cleaned it up for voices and put it up on youtube and u can actually hear lost souls saying "save us, please" and according to the comments of the video, some heavy lore stuff about the ancients?
i just thought u might like it cuz, even in the real world, the voices of those lost souls haven't been heard by many and u like to look at video games in a new way/learn more about them (especially scary mario game secrets)
This would make perfect sense on who was cooking the food for mr Luggs!
I love the idea of going back andcrecreating old betas, there was always something entriguing about the N64 Final Fantasy and Zelda tech demos that I'd love to relive through actual gameplay. Plus you have games that just looked way better in beta form, like The Bouncer.
I love Luigi’s Mansion
Me too :) I love the Luigi's Mansion games so much 💚!
Yooo Imagine if these Modders tried to Bring ELH To Life.
Modding Them in,In a way they’d think Elh would have looked as a Final Design.
That would be SICK.
This is absolutely amazing.
I didn’t knew about the chef ghost and thanks for sharing with us TH-camrs
Amazing. I would totally buy this.

since you brought up going back in time, ive always wondered bout this paradox
what if you leave a note for yourself somewhere you know youll run across it?
like for instance, unique initials (ie. abc, something distinct) on a note, again somewhere youll find it, with info pertaining to life events coming up
would it cause an issue like other paradox things? or would it be more like deathloop n such, each pop back in time youre able to leave more/+better detailed info and potentially even start remembering between each note leaving?
youre not directly meeting yourself, making contact or anything, and better off if you use a bit of paper from the place you end up in not from your "current" time (juuuust incase that somehow causes an issue) all youre doing is pretty much leaving a strong suggestion to try something than what happened
I really love the spooky mario ghost stuff lol
Get frozen hurts a lot real quick is comparable to the basher attacks, not as instant but the damage stacks up pretty quickly especially in the hidden mansion
Fun fact: im through the fact list de
Yo Swanky love you man!
Oh no! We all know what happens when you take a ghost out of a picture! What did I tell Professor E Gadd about? No posting pictures of the ghosts on line! Now we’re going to have another Luigi’s Mansion!
Holy crap how funny it is that I got recommended for this during Ghostbusters soundtrack
And if people still believe in the Safari boss ghost I will throw a tomato at your face.
Btw Swanky love the editing. ❤️
1080p absolutely was a thing back then. It just wasn't the standard yet. Quake was coded on a 1080p CRT.
This restoration has some major 'Mario 64 is personalized' vibes with the differences from the final game.
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one always itching to know who this ghost was 🙏🙏🙏
Love this content. 🔥
If I had to guess how his heart would have been exposed is definitely when he’s charging up his throw but you have only a short amount of time to suck him up.
Wow! This is crazy! I had no idea there was so many deleted ghosts/ things in Luigi’s Mansion. Do you know how many times was this game changed before they came out with the one we all know and love today? I knew of the Beta but that’s all.
