I think Elh would've been sick during the blackout. The other ghosts constantly spawning and scaring Luigi aka freezing you in place just ended up being kind of annoying. But if Elh just kept popping up as you searched the pitch black mansion that could've been super intimidating and thrilling
Wasn't there a scraped forest/courtyard level for Luigi's mansion? Perhaps he was a sort of ent spirit that would of been a boss of sorts. Could make sense seeing g how the cage torso could be roots and his hands look a bit like leaves. Either way, love these theories.
@@jordancooney6817 true, though we see artifacts of cut content all the time in games, like the bounding boxes near the graveyard, or the library terminal in fallout 4. Perhaps it was forgotten, planned for something else then dropped, or they ran out of time for the project. Either way, the speculation is probably the best part of this character. ^-^
@@Trader_Spero Agreed. What's interesting to note is that Luigi's Mansion's internal name is "Project 1". Could it have been the very first game to be developed for the GameCube? It was a launch title.
I made that connection in my mind but never thought about any further because not many people even thought of this but nice to see another person think of this.
That's actually very creepy, but if it's what was planned, it wouldn't even be that surprising , considering all the creepy content the game used to have in its early version
@@mylanpicornot4114 the hunter ghost especially. Imagine if the “Luigi is the next animal’s head for the wall.” Imagine a fan game based around Luigi’s Mansion but the messed up crap that was cut was in game.
Actually that could also be in a good way, like protecting/hiding you from other ghosts and threats, but he himself wanting to keep you inside or take you to specific spots, so he could be both an ally and a hazard, I dunno
About ELH blocking certain area doors, it would make sense for him to be defeated by elements,, so that Luigi could unlock the doors, but also I think the slam attack that ELH uses when Luigi gets near could have been replaced by the spikes hurting Luigi, and knocking him back in the final game
I think the idea that E. Gadd fused ghosts together and forced them to bend to his will just to act as a training dummy to Luigi is the most horrifying possibility listed. Also, as I said last time, Elh is real 2401.
I still really believe he was a late game boss, I think the lack of any coding or files related to elh just shows they never got far enough into development, imo they may have intended to give him a water attack as well as a defeated animation but cancelled him altogether as a late boss dood.
I was thinking the same thing. And since he was scrapped, his key that you would have received from beating him like all the other bosses, was instead given to Vincent Van Gore last minute.
I don't disagree, but also keep in mind that games aren't developed in "chronological order". The beginning of the game isn't developed first, and the end isn't developed last. For example, in Doom, the first level was actually the last level they made.
@@EmilyCorradino Nintendo seems to do these in order for the most part especially as they used to do demos..and their trailers normally only showcase early stuff meaning they've sorted out the beginning but not the end typically. The fact it wasn't completed means it likely was an older in the timeline concept (if it was going to be around a lot in the game it would of been more finished with variations to make it not as hard in the beginning) but once they made a huge chunk of the game they decided it didn't fit and stopped putting it off picking to instead scrap it. These aren't exactly the standard "run around do whatever" games like doom..these have a story and each part attaches to the plot and needs to go in a set order mostly thus they wouldn't work on the ending first because if they decide to change later parts they'd have to redo it thus wasting time. A game where you run around and kill things can mostly just be done in whatever order. What order a game is made in really depends on the type of game along with the devs making it!
Yeah, probably from an earlier version of the game from when it had an actual scary atmosphere, but was cut when they realised they wanted to not get sued for traumatising kids
So, I think the most likely thing is that elh was a sort of “testing ghost.” I would assume he would be used to test the elements, movement, as well as even spawning, which would explain the animations/functions tied to him. If they got that working, then maybe they even used him as a placeholder ghost to fill the mansion while they worked on other ghosts.
Well, I dunno how much the team behind Luigi's Mansion in 2001 was thinking about a game that wouldn't release for another 18 years. But it's a nice head canon.
I’d think of Ehl as a blind enemy. One that would wander the map aimlessly and loom the halls with a ghastly moan. If you hear the moan, you need to hide. If you make too much notice when it’s looming close by, it will go on the defense and attack aimlessly with the elements it wields. Since it can’t see, if you remain still for a while, it will move on. Eventually, you would have to lure Ehl into an area which would stun or immobilize it, allowing its cage-like body to expose an item you needed and you could grab it before it collect itself and continue moving on. When Ehl shows up, the music goes deaf, leaving the only sound being the creature shuffling slowly around, gasping and moaning. The louder it gets, the closer it is. Opening doors, knocking on objects, using the game boy horror, etc. would draw in Ehl’s attention, but using the vacuum would cause Ehl to make a B-line straight to Luigi, making use of the vacuum a risky move if you need to suck up something like a key to move on before Ehl gets too close.
@@deltamills5641 pretty much, only instead of scary music, it’s only the sounds from Ehl, giving you an idea how far away it is from your position based on the volume of its sounds. If the background music stops playing while you’re exploring, either stay put, or risk it by moving somewhere else. Keep quiet, and it will move on. Make too much noice, it will track you down. Overdo it, and it will make a beeline towards you. It could be an instant kill too if it attacks, making its presence all the more terrifying, though I guess that would be on a hard game difficulty. If it’s on a normal or easy mode, Ehl will not be as sensitive to sounds you make and not deal as much damage. Think of it like a cross between (as you mentioned) A Quiet Place Monster, Lady Dimitrescu, and the SA-X from Metroid Fusion.
The sound of that would make perfect sense, the way you described the horrible moaning, the stopping of the music, the sense of true horror and terror, it sounds like Nintendo would've scrapped it since it would definitely be way too scary for kids. And I'm not being a Karen, either. I've heard of kids who were afraid of Chauncey in Luigi's Mansion, of all things.
I love the idea of the Mario items being held by this creature. It could have popped up as you progressed throughout the mansion as a different elemental variation each time, and you could see the Mario item in it's torso as it chased you. You'd probably be incapable of obtaining each item upon first encounter, but after getting the element necessary, you'd know exactly what to do! Maybe this was scrapped because only 3 elements were added and 5 Mario items? Now you've got me wondering...
They have elements scattered throughout the mansion in places that you generally don't stop at too often like the fire in hallways or water in bathroom water tanks. I think they might have originally gave so many chances to use elements in various places to stop him at one point. Rather than being able to permanently defeat him, he would come back every time randomly even in the light. He would be incredibly intimidating in that case. I wish Elh was in the game still without textures because without any texture, it's more jarring to see that thing stalk the halls.
"Elh is real" maybe the game was originally meant to be in peaches castle and you would fight elh in the l is real room Edit: a chaser would actually work amazingly in peaches castle!
Personally, I doubt that, but what do I know? I’m only going by the following logic: The ‘L is Real thing’ is more than likely just a texture that looks like a message. Elh is not found anywhere in 64’s code either (to my knowledge). And that’s probably because it’s on a completely different platform… an entirely different console that came out years before Luigi’s Mansion’s development had been started and it’s console released. Also why would a creepy boss fight be in the hub world instead of the ghost house stage… or ANY stage. Never mind the fact that the ‘mysterious message’ in 64 has had virtually nothing uncovered about it that’s led anyone anywhere truly useful for at least twenty something years, give or take a few. (There’s also the fact Elh’s names pronunciation like the first part of ‘Element’ and it had elemental assets associated with it in Luigi’s Mansion’s files, as seen in the video) What I’m saying is that the chances of Elh being anything remotely associated with a vague texture in 64 is so cosmically unlikely that the odds of you surviving being stuck by lightning are notably greater than the odds of this theory being true.
omg now i want a Luigi’s Mansion game set in Peach’s Castle. that would rock. you could explore the entirety of her castle and maybe the final boss would be a possessed Peach like how Bowser was kind of the final boss in the original. although possessed Peach has been used a lot. maybe a possessed Mario? oh my god imagine Luigi being forced to fight his own brother. brutal
she was also kind of possessed in Origami King. i thought she was possessed a lot more, but i guess it only happened twice. sorry for bad formatting. gotta love mobile TH-cam :P
4:28 Makes me think of when you first encounter Green Tentacle in Maniac Mansion, and you have to give him the bowl of wax fruit and the can of Pepsi to get him to move. Obviously it would be a little less silly and ridiculous in this case, but still.
0:47 if that´s how elh was actually supossed to work, then i would think that they scrapped him to not give kids nightmares. like, imagine being chased around the mansion by this creepy thing and knowing it could appear at anytime. that would have terrified me as a kid.
Elh kind of looks like a tree, maybe it could hide in the trees and could act like a chu chu in Zelda when you found it, hiding as a pile of leaves or something…
@@silverreaps6803 this was my thought for him being scraped. There was a trail leading into the woods at some point, but it is only accessible by turning off collision. I think the training ghost sounds a lost more like the real thing
well Luigi does have a unused "fear state" where he walks slower and uses different, more nervous-looking animations so that idea can be modded into the game. maybe
Could "Elh" actually be "E.L.H."? That acronym could stand for something like "Environment" or "Element" or "Load" or "Lock" or "Harbinger" or... "Hank". I don't know, I'm just intrigued!
E Gadd's lumbering humanoid. Ethereal Luigi hunter. Elementally languishing hulk. Essential learning helper. Each of these explore different possible use cases/lore for ELH, and can be mixed and matched for similar results.
I think that elh was originally gonna be a unkillable chaser enemy like me but the developers realized that it wouldn't work in this kind of game just before finishing the model and animations, so they thought it could be a blocker like the banana lockers in dk64 or that B word in ocarina of time. He would block the door to the graveyard and attack with ice and fire, a hint to use the water elemental attack to destroy him. But the devs thought that wouldn't work either for some reason. Maybe they thought the hint to attack with water was too cryptic (because you wouldn't acquire ice until after getting past him so how would you know that ice is an element you can wield on your 1st playthrough) or his design was too scary for a kids game or something but whatever the reason, he was replaced with the burning door and left unused. What really sold me on this theory was his animations and connection to fire and ice.
I personally think Elh would've been a tutorial boss to show you the elements. Since his leftover code mainly has him using the elements against Luigi, together with the (seemingly) fact you wouldn't have been able to suck him up, so maybe instead shoot the elements at him. Also he seems to be very immobile with his goopy walk, so having him as a tutorial enemy makes more sense. Or a slow chaser. I liked that idea too.
I think if Elh was in the game, he would act like Bendy in BatIM chapter 3, randomly appearing somewhere in the room you're in at any given time trying to hunt you down until you find a hiding spot. They reminded me of BatIM considering the animation he has where he comes out of the ground.
Agreed, and I think a game like Luigi’s Mansion would find it fitting to have an enemy chasing you, kind of like a similar foe in a certain game that takes place in a mansion.
I'm gonna disagree with you on that. The developers of Luigi's Mansion never had any intention of scaring the player. In fact, they chose Luigi because he's jumpy and easily spooked. And an enemy that can pop out of nowhere and is unkillable can be pretty nerve racking. I won't deny that a chaser enemy in Luigi's Mansion would be sick, but based on the intentions of the developers, probably not.
@@pancake248 That’s the bizarre thing about the GameCube. They got a lot of stuff right, completely by accident. It’s almost as if Nintendo felt bad for actually making our childhoods good. Weird. Same with like, Ratchet and Clank. They took the one thing, realistic characters that smart talk you and block your way, and turned them all super nice and thanking you and praising you like the messiah, like, good lord. What happened? Did developers just, lose their edge?
@@Aflay1 I've only played the first three Ratchet and Clank games and 'A Crack in Time' (PS3 got fucked up and can't read discs anymore so I nevered finished a few of the games.) But yeah, kinda weird. Makes you wonder if developers think we'd cry if a character in a video game said something mean.
Elh being a stalker-type enemy would have been a very cool concept and very fitting too considering Luigi's Mansion seems to have been heavily inspired by Resident Evil. Not sure it would have really meshed well with the game's movement though.
2 years later but you know the right side of the top area of the Foyer where a door COULD have been? A loop like this (and other loops, like the door you unlock with the treadmill key in Biff Atlas' room) would make the idea of a chaser enemy more than plausible
I'll try to piece this together the best I can. Elh is an abbreviation, E.L.H. What it stands for is unknown, but my guess is Elementally Limiting Horror. This would imply that you would not be able to use Elements against it, making it almost immortal. You would get it to use it's body slam attack and then strike at E.L.H until they leave. They would pursue you, blocking certain areas that you haven't unlocked yet. It would be a late game enemy. It would be finally battled in the graveyard, due to the root like cage in it's chest and leaf-like hands. It would contain an item in the cage, possibly a Mario item. Using these clues, my guess is that E.L.H. would be a reoccurring boss that chases you, blocking areas that you haven't unlocked. Their final fight would be at the graveyard, giving you the fire element and a Mario item to go along with it.
More on the chasing idea, what if he appeared in hallways and non important rooms (rooms without boss fights) while they were still dark, but once a room is cleared he can’t spawn? What if to escape the chase, Luigi had to enter a cleared room?
Perhaps Elh _was_ going to be a pursuing enemy, maybe during the blackout part... but then was cut out for being too scary. I heard somewhere that when they were designing Luigi's Mansion, they wanted to scare _Luigi,_ but not the player. So, to the player the game isn't all that scary, but from Luigi's perspective it would be.
I've never played the original Luigi's Mansion, nor do I know how powerful the Gamecube was, so this might be wrong, but anyway. What if Elh was meant to keep the player from going out of bounds? Maybe you were able to access the forest around the back of the mansion at some point, or something similar, and when you went too far, Elh would pop out of the ground to make sure you stayed in bounds. Something similar to the Ghost Leviathan from Subnautica.
I just imaged he was the first version of Bogmire, who was deemed too scary to use, so they made a equally melty character and just made him use another ''element'' since you fight him pretty early on.
I think Elh was an enemy that could've spawned in the final fight to spice the difficulty of the final boss. Maybe it also had a 50/50 percent chance of spawning with either an fire or ice element, and those elements was needed to stop an attack or something like that.
I think you're onto something here. I always thought it was odd that during the fight, when Bowser's head is knocked off, he spits ice balls at you rather than fire. I get that Bowser is trying to freeze Luigi to stop him from vacuuming, but wouldn't fireballs be just as effective in that regard?
Back on that forest theory Swanky talked about, I think Elh could have been like a think where if you travel into the woods far enough, Elh would chase you towards the mansion and force you inside, I also think that Elh would use the Ice it is linked to to Lock certain doors to prevent you from going to different places, depending on how much you angered it. Also maybe if you went outside too much, It would chase you inside the building and force you to have to find a Fire or Ice attachment to defeat it, Depending on which it was using. You could then travel into the woods and discover a secret or something idk.
I think the one thing to observe is that Elh is a heavy attacker. Two large arms from above in a brutal, slow attack. So he was heavy. That's useful to note, because it gives an idea of what the textures could have been.
i dunno but my theory is that ehl worked like the polterpup and the polterkitty. When you get an important item for example, elh would emerge and steal it. he would have 3 different phases. the first would require fire the second water and the third one ice... its kind of a bad theory but... i thought it would make sense
I have an idea for Elh. What if throughout part of the game all it does is stalk you. Just watch you. Until the blackout. Where something seems off. No ghost are appearing. Like they're afraid of something. Luigi thinks that he finally scared the ghost away. But no. Because it's in total darkness that Elh comes out to play. He starts chasing Luigi all throughout the mansion. Killing you instantly if you get caught. There is no way of defeating him. You can only get rid of him by turning the lights back on.
I think Elh might've been a scrapped model of a certain ghost. My personal opinion would be an old design for Bogmire, perhaps, as Bogmire seems to have a tentacle-like mouth, which reminds me of Elh's weird wirey stomach. So maybe he was a scrapped design for a boss within the game. Or perhaps there was a Nintendo developer which snuck him into the files to see what people would do if/when they found him.
I remember a few years back talking to someone who had a mate who was part of the development team, or so they claimed. Apparently during the secret/mirrored mansion there was supposed to be a unique enemy who could randomly spawn in certain rooms. One of the unused sounds in the game belonged to this monster but they never got far with designing it's attacks and weaknesses. Not sure how much of the truth they were telling though, nor did they ever specify if it was Elh.
Dumb idea: he’s the like progress stopper but he’s friendly and he’s just like: hey buddy you probably shouldn’t go here since I don’t think you’re powerful enough. Like the fortune teller!
Swanky, when I heard the one theory about the abdomen being used to contain something plus the purser enemy theory, it got me thinking personally: What if Elh was a ghost that was supposed to hold Mario's Power Star that you find in the Observatory and chase you around and back to E. Gadd's lab after beating the boss ghosts or hitting certain story checkpoints - like freeing the Boos and King Boo from the basement? It could easily explain how the ghost would be able to use both the Fire and Ice Elements - considering the strength of Power Stars in the Mario series in general - and you couldn't defeat it unless you got a certain item in the late game or got all three Elemental Medals. But that's just my thought.
I just realized that 3 of the 4 keys are given out by major boss ghosts. The Van-gore fight always felt too easy to me, considering he's one of the last "fights", and give the diamond key, which always felt anticlimactic. Looking at Ell, his design kinda reminds me of those abstract art pieces. Perhaps Ell could have been one of Van-gores last creations, and worked as a major boss after capturing him making Van-gore live up to that hype of "Ghost creator" Hear me out. After defeating Van-gore, instead of the normal lights coming on, the lights turn purple, you'd walk up to the chest spawned in the middle of the room and a cutscene plays, Luigi is about to open the chest when it's suddenly engulfed, as Ell rises from the ground. The creature then hops into the painting Van-gore was working on as Luigi gives chase leading to a Boss arena with A fountain, And one of those furnaces used to make glass in. Each one spouting the respective element. Luigi would have to alternate between elements in order to melt away at the beast so he could reach the chest. The creature could summon walls of fire and ice to hide behind and would sidestep to hit Luigi with beams of Ice and fire should the player try exploiting this mechanic. After defeat the monster would just fade away, dropping the chest. After returning, E.Gadd would call Luigi astonished at the discovery of such a bizarre ghost, realizing there are many ghosts yet undiscovered, and he must be the one to do so. Allowing Luigi to return to the Lab after getting the chest so he could try to salvage any remnants the Ghost left on it ( giving Luigi the key as a "thank you" ), which would also allow the player a breather and chance to prepare for king boo. Yeah, I Know it's kinda stupid and wouldn't work that well, but stranger things have happened.
I got two theories first it’s a form of king boo that you needed to wait out or second it’s a mix of ghost that you have to throw stuff at them then vacuum them up one by one
What if when you try to go through a door that is blocked, (with spikes now) and didn’t have the required item, elh would appear and chase you, a good place for this would be the hallway to king boo if it were a bit longer.
Not entirely what's most interesting about the character, but the "el" in the character's name Elh probably stands for element. Maybe the full name would be something like, "Elemental Hazard". Just what came to mind for me.
I think Elh was gonna be some sort of Easter egg, like if you look through a window he’ll be their, doing something, for if your on the balcony, out in the distance, he’s in the grave yard or out in the front of the mansion, I can’t explain the attack animations or elements though...
One day some dev at Nintendo with a sick sense of humour will address this topic on Twitter by saying "In regards to the 'Elh' entity from Luigi's Mansion, no one from the team that worked on the game knew about it, and none of us has ever seen it before 😨"
What if elh stood for something like “egad lab helper” or something like that where it’s a ghost that would help you like how the ghosts are friendly in dark moon what if the cage in its chest could be used to trap boos in place or what if the elements we see elh have could have been used to give you elements like if you needed water to put out the fire in the kitchen elh could give it to you. I’m probably way off but I think elh is a weird name so I think it’s an abbreviation for something.
Maybe Elh could've been the lone ghost that chased you during the blackout segment. Here's how I would see it: (After the blackout Luigi answers a Gameboy Horror call from E. Gadd) E. Gadd: W-What the?! A blackout?! This is bad! SERIOUSLY this is REALLY BAD! Luigi, whatever you're doing drop it NOW! You have to restart the generator! ... What the?! Oh no! The door's locked now! Quick! You must find the ghost Uncle Grimmly, if anyone has the key it's him! He likes rooms with mirrors so- ... Oh no... LUIGI! RUN!!! (Call ends and a cutscene showcase Elh appearing plays with Luigi screaming for his life at its appearance) King Boo (voice): E. Gadd had trouble with this beast, let's see if my creation can finish YOU and that Poultergust off for good! (cue Mr. X style chase)
Combining some of these ideas, assuming the unused area you talked about at 6:30 was supposed to be the forest itself, Elh could have potentially been an early idea from Nintendo to be used in place of an invisible wall. So basically to mark the end of the "room" per se. Idk if I explained what I tried to say well enough but fascinating video none the less! c:
What if Elh was a Shape-shifter-ghost/entity who would sometimes at a certain point in the game would make himself look like Mario, Toad, Peach, or even E-gadd and you see a text bubble with "..." pop up but as you got closer the bubble would get bigger and you would see it say something like "Luigi", "HELP", "Are you OK?" or even "Let's get outta here!" . But when you find Elh looking like on of the specified characters he would sink into the ground and pull you into his battle arena which varies over multiple fights and you must battle him to get a key which would *ONLY* be for the *ONE* boss-ghost that gives you the keys that lead tho the different stages in each... well... stage. But you also have to fight him when you catch *ALL* the boos in the mansion and you must take him on in under 6:30-mins, make him split apart only to suck up the core of Elh and thus permanently defeating him and gaining a portrait, the only portrait that can go platinum for beating him in under 3:00-mins and gives the only Silver Topaz which is worth 2,000,000,000 G. after he is defeated you hear him say "You fool! Don't you know the Mansion (gibberish)! If King Boo falls you, and all of us ghosts will fall with the mansion due to King Boo's (gibberish) failing! Nooooooo!" which you learn what he meant after you beat the game: the Mansion was an illusion. Also if you don't beat him for the last time and you have your end-game rank in the background lightning strikes and you see him appear in the background laughing. Well, that's my thoughts, what do you think? Sorry if it is a little long... but i got my thought of this cool being across lol. P.S: if you made it this far Kudos to you!!!
I find the scrapped and beta content far more interesting than the other two games. They were too kid friendly and goofy. Luigi’s Mansion 1 is still the best in my opinion. The atmosphere and creepiness was perfect
what if there was a way to get into the deleted part and Elh was there chasing you or maybe Elh comes for trees he looks like 1 he could have been hiding and when you would be in the forest it would could out of nowhere and chase you out
i like to think its like a "hard mode" that you unlock by beating the game, being this massive monster that slowly follows you along the mansion and onetaps you if you get to close, but having a slow enough attack animation to let you slip through him without dying
6:59 what if you were chased by Elh from boo's woods but only into the fence area of the mansion when Elh disappears and to get into boo's woods you would do certain tasks in the mansion to turn on lights that leads to boo's woods and if you were to stray away from the lit path Elh would appear and start chasing the player till they got back to the lights or to the mansion?
If they did another remaster/remake of the game, he should be added back as a new mode for replaying the game. That'd be a sick way to have the game be reinvented. Having him sometimes appear in the dark areas (with him disappearing in the lit up rooms). That'd make him a nightmare to deal with once the blackout happens.
Yeah, they should put him in that game mode that makes the mansion harder (I believe it's mirror mode, you unlock it after winning the game once,) and he would chase luigi through the mansion during the blackout until he fixes the lights
Elh could've been a training ghost for teaching the player how to deal with ghosts in general. eventually, Luigi would go to Boo forest to find it deserted. Instead of ghosts halting your process crows would play keep-away with keys, boxes maybe a group of crows will be lugging around with a ghost painting with a ghost in perhaps a crew master in life. During this trip Professor, Egadd would call you and be like "Luigi my creations have been a bit rowdy and it seems to be trying to go-" Then it would cut off. Luigi would see shadows of it: turning out to be trees or crows creating structures. Crows would close gates behind Luigi. Luigi would eventually return to Egadd discovering he managed to keep it in the garden luigi could see it rampaging breaking a fountain or something and calm down with it heard Luigi. After this Alh would just wander around the outside area; ocansionaly helping Luigi get a few keys or throwing him to higher floors of the mansion. After story beats the outside area would slowly be filled up with elemental-type things perpetually burning trees frozen fountains. Eventually, Elh would go haywire again and Luigi would confront it; indiscreetly teaching the player about elemental-type stuff. This is assuming the size of the game wasn't restrained by budget but storage space.,
I agree with the chaser theory. Elh's attacks feel like they would do serious damage if you got close to him, as evidenced by the animations. He looks like something that would chase you throughout the mansion and maybe even become a boss at one point!
i feel like it could be a combination of two of the points here: you have to chase it down to get a key item (perhaps a literal key), and then it chases after you, so you have to scramble to the correct door before it catches you and knocks the key out of you, reclaiming it
What if Elh was a friendly ghost who gave Luigi a side quest asking for him to find whatever was missing from it's chest cage and after Luigi found the item and returned it Elh would thank Luigi and help him out by unlocking a shortcut tunnel system between different parts of the mansion and it would move around in the tunnels with different side quests that Luigi could do for heath or even coins on occasion.
I had a dream that was like the Elh outdoor chase, so with this theory in mind: it would have possibly made it very scary for the younger audience, so it was scrapped. This could be a logical answer
@The Master of Mario when you make a trailer video, I think you can copy the URL of that modded game and paste it in the description, I don’t have the right answer for this, sorry
So, I like all of these theories though I do have an idea to combine all of these into one idea, and further expand them. What if he was like the big guy version of a group of Goopy ghosts, like Gooigi and Bogmire. What if there was a small version of him, a medium version of him, the big guy, a demonstration version of him, a pursuer version, and a trapper. So, lore part. What if they were like buddies of the Boos, when E. Gadd looked at that he thought to himself "Why not adopt one myself". Heck, those Sky Valley Heck Ghosts that were in Super Mario Galaxy? What if Elh was one of them? So he went and followed the Boos out of the Mansion and saw an entire civilization talking to them out in a part of the woods during a certain time as some go with Boos, and others are just living out their lives separate from King Boo and Egad. This was how he accidentally bumped into a rare version of them, which starts an entire series of adventures that I think deserve to rather be animated than be written in a black-and-white comment though it basically has to do with the fact that he accidentally started an entire war with the isolated boos and these goopy enemies. This all boils down to E. Gadd getting the Elh we all have seen in the code, and having him be the main head of his research team. He is also a tutorial ghost and helps teach you how to face the goopy pursuer enemies, the Trappers, the blockers and also helps teach you about the elements. (maybe we could implement the Dark Moon as a rare global event, with the valley being the only place it constantly happens, or even some other areas, with the original Mansion quite possibly being E. Gadds center of pure research. I mean, theoretically speaking maybe that is why he is always everywhere near King Boo, because he constantly "Let's him out accidentally" and he never had a track record of being sane, though I am going off-topic here trying to justify and present all my theories when I should be making them into videos)
@The Master of Mario I just love huge games with big features, with a lot of quality and quantity. I just want to immerse myself in the games. So the actual possibility that there could have been another Mario character that could have added so much just kind of makes me thirst for that reality, and yet it would take so long for the reality to come true.
i had one idea i guess i forgot to comment about. the long arms it has makes me think it could've been something for the scrapped multiplayer mode, and could've worked similarly to the trapper in luigi's mansion 3, where you'd have both players use their poultergust to suck the arms out, or maybe it'd like uncoil its body and split it in half. honestly that last part i just came up with; i was looking at the body shape and thought "hey that sounds like a really cool animation it could've had." if it was a multiplayer thing, that'd explain why it never got finished.

I think Elh would've been sick during the blackout. The other ghosts constantly spawning and scaring Luigi aka freezing you in place just ended up being kind of annoying. But if Elh just kept popping up as you searched the pitch black mansion that could've been super intimidating and thrilling
69th like, lets goooooo
Heyyyyyyyy you're that SMB speedrunner! Good seeing you on other Nintendo channels
Finding a way to beat Elh before turning the lights back on would’ve been way more interesting than blindly hunting down Uncle Grimmly.
I didn't expect to see the legendary speedrunner Kosmic here.
Elh reminds me so much of Mr. X from resident evil 2.
Wasn't there a scraped forest/courtyard level for Luigi's mansion? Perhaps he was a sort of ent spirit that would of been a boss of sorts. Could make sense seeing g how the cage torso could be roots and his hands look a bit like leaves. Either way, love these theories.
If he was from a scrapped area, it would make sense that he himself was scrapped along with it.
But hey, that's just a theory... A GAME THEORY!
What if Elh was a pursuer that tries to place YOU in his chest cage?
That's actually very creepy, but if it's what was planned, it wouldn't even be that surprising , considering all the creepy content the game used to have in its early version

❌️
I wonder if he was an earlier design for a boss like Bogmire that was even more non-human in appearance.
what if elh was your friend and he protected you from the other enemies..
Never considered the weird abdomen for holding an item. Always just assumed it was a deformed monster ghost body thing from a horror film
I have theory that it might be tubes or wires I go more into deaph in my other coment
Imagine Elh was a real person and was killed by something splitting his abdomen
if i had to guess, he was most probably just a really early version of bogmire
Yeah, probably from an earlier version of the game from when it had an actual scary atmosphere, but was cut when they realised they wanted to not get sued for traumatising kids
Okay but Bogmire still scared me a ton as a kid lol
@The Master of Mario yeah, but you probably weren't as traumatised as the original version of the game would have traumatised you
@The Master of Mario were you playing the GameCube version or the 3ds remake? The 3ds one is much brighter, but idk
I remember on the original video, I posted a concept of an Elh boss fight that I thought felt similar to Bogmire.
With all this talk bout Elh it makes me wonder if anyone has asked the developers about this thing
fair point
Knowing franchise fans someone probably has
@The Master of Mario And?
@The Master of Mario What did they say?
@The Master of Mario did they tell you anything then?
Elh, as a creation of E. Gadd, makes more sense when you picture a Gooigi like texture. Like he was a prototype.
that is a really good point
Agreed
Well, I dunno how much the team behind Luigi's Mansion in 2001 was thinking about a game that wouldn't release for another 18 years.
But it's a nice head canon.
@@jonathanmarth6426 Actually, Gooigi first appeared in the 3DS remake, so...
So the monsters from a quiet place but with a scary music piece playing in the background?
Like the minecraft warden?
Thats fucking terrifying to think about ngl
It’s funny how a random npc that DIDNT make it into the playable game winds up getting more love and attention than ones that do show up in the game.
W.D Gaster.
"Elh is real"
maybe the game was originally meant to be in peaches castle and you would fight elh in the l is real room
Edit: a chaser would actually work amazingly in peaches castle!
(There’s also the fact Elh’s names pronunciation like the first part of ‘Element’ and it had elemental assets associated with it in Luigi’s Mansion’s files, as seen in the video)
What I’m saying is that the chances of Elh being anything remotely associated with a vague texture in 64 is so cosmically unlikely that the odds of you surviving being stuck by lightning are notably greater than the odds of this theory being true.
omg now i want a Luigi’s Mansion game set in Peach’s Castle. that would rock. you could explore the entirety of her castle and maybe the final boss would be a possessed Peach like how Bowser was kind of the final boss in the original. although possessed Peach has been used a lot. maybe a possessed Mario? oh my god imagine Luigi being forced to fight his own brother. brutal

Existence Limiting Horror.
But there's only ONE thing we know for sure:
Elh is real. 2401.
My guess is the devs thought ELH would be too confusing so they replaced it with the burning doors in the Kitchen and Tea Room
Elh is such an enigma, it’s pretty interesting
I personally think Elh would've been a tutorial boss to show you the elements.
Since his leftover code mainly has him using the elements against Luigi, together with the (seemingly) fact you wouldn't have been able to suck him up, so maybe instead shoot the elements at him. Also he seems to be very immobile with his goopy walk, so having him as a tutorial enemy makes more sense. Or a slow chaser. I liked that idea too.
About the chasing like Mr X. thing, maybe Elh can't get into rooms with Toad like how Mr X. can't get into the save rooms in Resident Evil 2.
I would love he leaves trial of goo or whatever that thing is behind him indicated he was nearby or not
@@bruhford3954 Maybe that goo trail gets thicker the closer it is to Elh

That’s the bizarre thing about the GameCube.

Elh could be something in a RE game, which now makes me imagine if Luigi's Mansion was LIKE RE and now I wanna make that
the original was kind of Nintendo’s answer to Resident Evil. the animations of Luigi opening doors gives me RE vibes.
Elh being a stalker-type enemy would have been a very cool concept and very fitting too considering Luigi's Mansion seems to have been heavily inspired by Resident Evil. Not sure it would have really meshed well with the game's movement though.
If only the hallways and rooms were bigger... then it probably would've worked better.
I think the theory about him being a path-blocker is most likely.
What about attacking animations path blockers don't have those.
@@landenscott1753 Well, some path blockers do deal damage. Maybe it was more of a 'stay away' attack rather than an attack meant for killing.

As I said before. I firmly beleive Luigi's mansion was supposed to be a spoof esc game, of Resident Evil. So Elh being a chaser completely makes sense
What if Elh was like bonus when you beat the game Elh apears and when you beat it you get Mario.
M is real
Yeah but the ghost leviathans we're not very good at their job as soon as you build a base in the void they're done for
I just imaged he was the first version of Bogmire, who was deemed too scary to use, so they made a equally melty character and just made him use another ''element'' since you fight him pretty early on.
Elh deserves his own channel.
@Elh 😂
@Elh I AM NOT WORTHY !
@Elh oh damn
2:12. Hey that's my comment! Thanks for mentioning my comment man. Always love me some Luigi's Mansion! 👍
And that's why sticking items into a funky sidestepping blob ghost will always be one of my Pixel Portals.
Elh would’ve been Luigi’s answer to Mr X
Maybe Elh could've been a lategame reoccurring miniboss holding a key or something
I just love the Nemesis energy that Elh produces! He seems like the kind of enemy that makes you YEET out of the room when you see him
Here we go again 😎 I somehow can’t get enough of this “being” in the beta
Game theory, what if Elh was just a prototype bogmire?
I just realized that 3 of the 4 keys are given out by major boss ghosts.
The Van-gore fight always felt too easy to me, considering he's one of the last "fights", and give the diamond key, which always felt anticlimactic.
Looking at Ell, his design kinda reminds me of those abstract art pieces. Perhaps Ell could have been one of Van-gores last creations, and worked as a major boss after capturing him making Van-gore live up to that hype of "Ghost creator"
Hear me out.
What if Elh becomes real in 2401? 🤔
Guess we have to wait for 2398 games then
Maybe January 2024
I got two theories first it’s a form of king boo that you needed to wait out or second it’s a mix of ghost that you have to throw stuff at them then vacuum them up one by one
To be honest he looks like the purple goo enemy in dark moon.
He looks nothing like the creeper
What if when you try to go through a door that is blocked, (with spikes now) and didn’t have the required item, elh would appear and chase you, a good place for this would be the hallway to king boo if it were a bit longer.
Not entirely what's most interesting about the character, but the "el" in the character's name Elh probably stands for element.
Maybe the full name would be something like, "Elemental Hazard".
Just what came to mind for me.
Maybe the E and L are separate, so it's something like 'Elemental Locking Hazard'?
I think Elh was gonna be some sort of Easter egg, like if you look through a window he’ll be their, doing something, for if your on the balcony, out in the distance, he’s in the grave yard or out in the front of the mansion, I can’t explain the attack animations or elements though...
So Elh would have been the Luigi Mansion’s version of Mr. X and Nemesis
Here's how I would see it:
(After the blackout Luigi answers a Gameboy Horror call from E. Gadd)
E. Oh no... LUIGI! RUN!!!
(Call ends and a cutscene showcase Elh appearing plays with Luigi screaming for his life at its appearance)
King Boo (voice): E. Gadd had trouble with this beast, let's see if my creation can finish YOU and that Poultergust off for good!
(cue Mr. X style chase)
This ghost could slowly lose your sanity
Combining some of these ideas, assuming the unused area you talked about at 6:30 was supposed to be the forest itself, Elh could have potentially been an early idea from Nintendo to be used in place of an invisible wall. So basically to mark the end of the "room" per se. Idk if I explained what I tried to say well enough but fascinating video none the less! c:
So pretty much luigis mansion would be sonic adventure: Amy only edition
Is... Elh... An acronym??? Like Element Luigi Helper or something???
i just find it funny how after all these years nobody thought to just contact one of the devs and ask them.
What if his lack of a texture is intentional and he’s just an almagamate style thing
I find the scrapped and beta content far more interesting than the other two games. They were too kid friendly and goofy. Luigi’s Mansion 1 is still the best in my opinion. The atmosphere and creepiness was perfect
What if Elh was just a placeholder for a boss or something? Maybe it’s just a test model that was never fully removed. Hey, it could be that way.
Just imagine exploring the mansion and Elh comes up from the ground like “SURPRISE MOTHERF___ER”
what if there was a way to get into the deleted part and Elh was there chasing you or maybe Elh comes for trees he looks like 1 he could have been hiding and when you would be in the forest it would could out of nowhere and chase you out
i like to think its like a "hard mode" that you unlock by beating the game, being this massive monster that slowly follows you along the mansion and onetaps you if you get to close, but having a slow enough attack animation to let you slip through him without dying
Reminds me of Metroid Dread.
E.M.M.I
Lol
This is assuming the size of the game wasn't restrained by budget but storage space.,
Elh Is Real...
I think his attack is him swinging down and shooting elements out of his hands, thats why his hands align with the elements when he swings
Elh might not be white and have a texture because he doesn’t look good with the mansion
I agree with the chaser theory. Elh's attacks feel like they would do serious damage if you got close to him, as evidenced by the animations. He looks like something that would chase you throughout the mansion and maybe even become a boss at one point!
I LITERALLY WATCHED THE PREVIOUS ELH VIDEO RIGHT BEFORE THIS
I like the mr. X and the woods ghost concepts, the others feel wrong tho
Elh is real 2401
i feel like it could be a combination of two of the points here: you have to chase it down to get a key item (perhaps a literal key), and then it chases after you, so you have to scramble to the correct door before it catches you and knocks the key out of you, reclaiming it
Elh as a tyrant or nemesis type enemy would have been really cool. Maybe a future romhack will give this man justice
@The Master of Mario cool, will there be a download link?
@The Master of Mario when you make a trailer video, I think you can copy the URL of that modded game and paste it in the description, I don’t have the right answer for this, sorry
@The Master of Mario I hope you do well! I also can’t wait to see my nightmare in reality, that would be so cool!
Elh would've been an enemy to antagonize you during the otherwise lifeless power outage segment.
So the actual possibility that there could have been another Mario character that could have added so much just kind of makes me thirst for that reality, and yet it would take so long for the reality to come true.
i had one idea i guess i forgot to comment about. the long arms it has makes me think it could've been something for the scrapped multiplayer mode, and could've worked similarly to the trapper in luigi's mansion 3, where you'd have both players use their poultergust to suck the arms out, or maybe it'd like uncoil its body and split it in half. honestly that last part i just came up with; i was looking at the body shape and thought "hey that sounds like a really cool animation it could've had."
if it was a multiplayer thing, that'd explain why it never got finished.
