He then requires his child to rescue him and to thank them he takes a terrible route to rivet city full of raiders, creatures and robots leaving you to deal with them. He then fills project purity with radiation which kills you in the original ending.
True but he left his child to deal with the...Fallout...of his actions ( pun fully intended). But seriously, the Overseer could easily have decided to execute the Lone Wanderer for that.
Man. I remember when I adopted kids in Skyrim. Three days in, after a vampire attack, I gave them both heavily enchanted ebony daggers. And suddenly, my kids were utter badasses. I believe they actually managed to take down a dragon somehow.
I let my other half take care of the kids in Skyrim. He's a stay at home dad while I go get the grub to feed the family when I can be bhothered to visit home again. And even then my first priority is storing my items. yeah yeah kids go play in the water and get attacked by bandits. Mummy is trying to categorise her book collection.
I've seen this suggestion already, but they don't really go into detail on just how bad a parent the Dragonborn can be. You have a family, a nice house, a nice little income, maybe even a dog... well time to go adventure! See you nerds in a month and once I do return, expect me to collect the money my spouse made who never sees me, we don't talk, and likely out of fear hasn't ended this clearly toxic relationship because I can shout people to death. Maybe I then talk to the dog to see if he'll come along, brush aside my child desperate for attention, because my armor's stored here and my dog is more important, and then vanish again for another month. Shit spouse, shit parent, savior of the world... no one said to be a great person you had to be a good one.
Oh and I forgot that you can go adventuring with strange men or women that are not your wife or husband. "Mom where's dad?" "He's off adventuring... with Lydia..." "Daddy does that a lot." "Yes, sweetie (sniffle) yes he does..." Fuck it, I'm rooting for Alduin.
***** If the player character from Fallout 4 can qualify as a locked away evil on one of Outside Xtra's lists, then the Dragonborn can be a horrible parent. And it is really hard to be evil in Fallout 4, while really easy to be terrible a parent in Skyrim.
In fairness, way back when it wasn't exactly unheard of to have a parental figure who, depending on their profession, you rarely ever saw. Anyone who traveled a lot for a living, such as merchants, would be in the same boat. Considering I make more money adventuring than most of the people of Skyrim make in their entire freaking lives and regularly carry around about twenty times more than the average stationary merchant keeps in their coffers, I'd say I'm a pretty good virtual parent, relative to the era. :P I even stock my house with a bunch of rare ingredients and neat stuff I pick up on my travels. Some kids have shitty wooden swords; mine have Daedric daggers. :D Sure, we live in the middle of nowhere not too far from a necromancer spawn point, but the alternatives are all either shitty houses (Whiterun), shitty neighborhoods (Riften, Markarth, Windhelm), or, worst of all, FULL OF SPIDERWEBS YOU CAN'T GET RID OF (Solitude).
Uhm...so, yeah, Ethan loses one of his sons in a crowded mall in Heavy Rain...but you completely forgot to mention the other, slightly more terrifying reason to not leave a child in his custody--he will occasionally black out and wander off to the other side of the city, completely abandoning all said children at home or on a playground...and then "Woohoos" with a complete stranger in a seedy motel while the cops are looking for him!
Why is everyone always hating on Ashley?! Yes she does need Leon to do most of the fighting and rescuing but let’s be fair, she’s the president’s daughter and a college girl that I thought looked like she should still be in high school which would’ve made Luis’ ballistics comment not only rude but also creepy, and Leon is a heavily trained, former STARS officer and current Secret Service agent with the magical ability to store a combat knife, pistol, shotgun, rifle, ammo for each, scope, and medicinal plants and still be able to perform all the acrobatics necessary to jump his way through a laser fighting system and they’re being attacked by armies of monsters the weakest of which only become stronger after their heads explode at night so... it’s not a really big surprise. I mean honestly if you were in her position for real how much better could you do? Besides she’s not completely useless, she does operate the cranks and unlock several doors in order to help you advance further into the game so maybe cut the young lady just a little slack...

I'm not saying they won't, but no one is obligated to shield others from spoilers for something that's that many years old. At least people had a chance to play it then.
To be fair, the dragonborn isn't that much better of a parent. I've got no idea who's feeding my kids, but obviously they are better off living out in the middle of the reach under constant siege by bandits and giants than sleeping on the floor of an inn.
Well, whenever i adopted one i had a fiance which would look after the kids and look for them. Also it is better than living on the streets like that girl in whitrun :D.

I mean, Corvo did allow his daughter to be kidnapped TWICE. And although the low chaos ending is canon, there's still the equally valid endings where he either turns her into a bloodthirsty maniac, or allows a power-hungry admiral to throw her off of an absurdly tall lighthouse.
What about YOU in Skyrim? You adopt a kid and take them from somewhere they're looked after, only to have them become your personal slave to do chores all whilst you're out doing Dragonborn things.

No mention of the Sole Survivor of Fallout 4? Having your baby kidnapped by evil scientists is one thing, but chances are you end up nuking your own son... which is a parenting fail of epic proportions.
What about the Hero in Fable 2? He leaves his house for multiple days, sometimes years at a time. Never visits the kids. And sometimes butchers their mother (and the rest of the town) so she would shut the fuck up already. Or sometimes just for kicks. THEN HE REMARRIES!

If Lee hadn't come across poor Clem, she would have no doubt starved to death or, if she had been desperate enough, try to make it out on her own and find her parents, which would have been a forced march through Hell for the _first grader_.
The best caregiver is Hila Klein. She tries so hard to feed and clean the Beanie King, but even she can't handle the goofs sometimes. Happy Thanksgiving.

Fallout 3, your dad FREAKING LEFT YOU and other stuff ensues...plus he kinda gives you a gun at age 10 (which is cool but BBs aren't exactly entirely safe either; but I wouldn't know if this is true or not).
Dr. Angus Bumby from alice: madness returns was a pretty horrid caretaker, i mean he hypnotized kids to make them forget their families so he could use them in sex/drug trafficking, among other things.
my favorite thing about the quest where you kill Grelod is you can just walk up to her in front of the kids and slash her to death and the kids will just start celebrating like they didnt just witness a gruesome murder
In Ethan's defense, he gave the clown a 20 for a 2 dollar balloon to go catch Jason, because just running off after him without paying would be stealing, therefore, illegal, the mall was crowded full of people, so running would surely result in an accident, if not, potentially running right past Jason, and he DID jump in front of a moving car and took the full impact in an attempt to save Jason. Ethan did all he could. (never thought I'd be defending a David Cage game.)

The Sole Survivor had a rough time dealing with his/her baby's kidnapping only to SPOILER ALERT have a Reverse Luke/Darth Vader moment later on. It sucks to be younger than your son who also turned into a giant douche.
The way Jason just trucks off in the five seconds it takes to pay a clown while never looking back makes me think Jason just wanted a free balloon before making his run away attempt.
I know I bring up Fallout 4 a lot, but come on. Really? No mention of the sole survivor? Player's kid gets kidnapped, spend five minutes looking for him before giving up and start playing post-apocalyptic Sims and running side quests until you finally realize "Oh yeah! Kellog is still alive and Nick Valentine has been locked in a vault for, what, six months now? I should probably do something about that." And then on your way to the commons to rescue Nick, you get distracted cause you hear gunshots, go investigate, and by the time you actually remember who Shaun is, Fallout New Orleans has been released.
What about James Heller from Prototype 2? He actually told his family to stay in the city that was being quickly occupied by the military and infected and wait for him. Rather than leave the city while they can for someplace safer and not on the brink of martial law.
ok first of NO Aiden did not cause Nicole to be kidnapped. she was kidnapped by Damien in order to strong arm Aiden into helping him even after he said no, 2. while Aiden isnt completely innocent from the Merlaut job in the fact that he did it for money, he wasnt the one who caused the hit out on him and Damien in the first place, that was Damien over stepping his goddamn boundries and trying to find the second hacker and aiden even tried to abort the mission to get away, and 3 after Nicole gets kidnapped Aiden SAVES Jackson from armed men who came after him TWICE once when they came to take him away and the second time when Jackson snuck into a fortified area. i mean jesus guys....... I don't think fictional orphanages attract administrators who hate kids, I think the kids in fictional orphanages simply wear good people down with their constant whining about needing clothes without holes, a shelter without rats, and food that isn't rotten. Kids are the worst.
See i like Aidan. Yeah he didn't show much emotion but hes a revenge man. Thats why i like him. i knew what he wanted, he had no qualms about killing or doing whatever he needed to do to get that revenge.
Yeah. The script bothers me... They made it so that it was his niece and sister, when it should have been his daughter and (estranged) wife. This ruined the emotional impact and is the reason why most people don't understand Aiden. See... nobody complains that Ethan is "boring" and "has no emotions" because it's quite clear who and what he is. A grieving father who cannot find peace. A man consumed by anger and regret willing to do just about anything to make things right.
Considering how most of the guards talk about her once she's dead (either they outright say the kids are better off or they mention that they're pretty sure they saw you leave but don't care enough to arrest you or ask any more questions [except for a few who assume the kids must be heartbroken, but they don't even seem to know Grelod's name so I assume they're either new to Riften or don't hang around the orphanage]) and how oblivious the Jarl is about pretty much everything in the hold, I'm pretty sure "Grelod _the Kind"_ was a sarcastic nickname. Almost everyone in town knew she was a nasty piece of work, but none of them could do anything because the head of Honorhall is appointed by the Jarl or the patrons or something.
I always thought Ethans three ways of shouting was pretty accurate. There is the "Panic"-shout, the "Frustrate but also a little mad"-shout and the "I don't have time for this and if you don't come to me right now, we will leave without you and make Shaun our favorite son"-shout. What other ways of shouting to a parent need? :D
What about Edward Kenway? He was poor turned into a pirate leaving the woman who had his child. Then when he meets her for the 1st time he takes her on his pirate ship.
Depending on how you play them both Delta in Bioshock 2 and Corvo in Dishonored can be either the best daddy ever or the worst! Children do learn from example!

To be fair to Ethan in Heavy Rain, Jason should have never run off. He was what, 8? 10? Kids that age know enough from TV or their parents the possible consequences of being separated. Most families put the fear of God into their kids with stories of kidnappers and pedos, not including the possibility of getting their ass reddened and their stuff taken away for pulling such shit. Plus, Ethan took the brunt of the collision, so Jason should've been just fine. All that bullshit was for the sake of artificially driven drama. Another reason why Heavy Rain is a shit game, and David Cage a hack writer and director. "I make ze bad game."
I knew I wouldn't appear on this list, because I'm a great care giver! I teach kids all sorts of valuable lessons about honor, integrity, swordsmanship, and teamwork while only OCCASIONALLY ordering them to perform suicide charges on enemy positions and losing them inside refugee camps. To be fair, the dragonborn isn't that much better of a parent. I've got no idea who's feeding my kids, but obviously they are better off living out in the middle of the reach under constant siege by bandits and giants than sleeping on the floor of an inn.
Well, whenever i adopted one i had a fiance which would look after the kids and look for them. Also it is better than living on the streets like that girl in whitrun :D.

I know I bring up Fallout 4 a lot, but come on. Really? No mention of the sole survivor? Player's kid gets kidnapped, spend five minutes looking for him before giving up and start playing post-apocalyptic Sims and running side quests until you finally realize "Oh yeah! Kellog is still alive and Nick Valentine has been locked in a vault for, what, six months now? I should probably do something about that." And then on your way to the commons to rescue Nick, you get distracted cause you hear gunshots, go investigate, and by the time you actually remember who Shaun is, Fallout New Orleans has been released.
What about James Heller from Prototype 2? He actually told his family to stay in the city that was being quickly occupied by the military and infected and wait for him. Rather than leave the city while they can for someplace safer and not on the brink of martial law.
ok first of NO Aiden did not cause Nicole to be kidnapped. she was kidnapped by Damien in order to strong arm Aiden into helping him even after he said no, 2. while Aiden isnt completely innocent from the Merlaut job in the fact that he did it for money, he wasnt the one who caused the hit out on him and Damien in the first place, that was Damien over stepping his goddamn boundries and trying to find the second hacker and aiden even tried to abort the mission to get away, and 3 after Nicole gets kidnapped Aiden SAVES Jackson from armed men who came after him TWICE once when they came to take him away and the second time when Jackson snuck into a fortified area. i mean jesus guys....... Almost everyone in town knew she was a nasty piece of work, but none of them could do anything because the head of Honorhall is appointed by the Jarl or the patrons or something.

To be fair to Ethan in Heavy Rain, Jason should have never run off. He was what, 8? 10? Kids that age know enough from TV or their parents the possible consequences of being separated. Most families put the fear of God into their kids with stories of kidnappers and pedos, not including the possibility of getting their ass reddened and their stuff taken away for pulling such shit. Plus, Ethan took the brunt of the collision, so Jason should've been just fine. All that bullshit was for the sake of artificially driven drama.
Another reason why Heavy Rain is a shit game, and David Cage a hack writer and director.
