Finnick won his games at 14. Snow began pimping him out after. His mental break down is completely understandable. He likely had to maintain that public persona out of fear for a decade, he lost Maggs his mother figure, then the games themselves, then they take his love Annie. Katniss and Finnick have a great friendship you get a bit more of in the book💖

Remember what Peeta said in the first movie... "I want to show them they don't own me. If I die I want to still be me" and he completely loses his sense of self and memories because of them😢 I love the political depth of this film, I find the strongest scenes and hard-hitting scenes to be the rebels sacrificing themselves for the bombs in the forest and the dam.
I think the most potent scene for me from this movie is when they take out the dam. Presumably, it would have been the dam workers from that district who blew it up. They all went in knowing full well they would die, whether they succeeded or not! One of the main themes of this series as a whole seems to be this compassion for others, even (in the most unlikely place) when having to constantly fighting for your life - this willingness to lay down one’s life in an effort to save/better the lives of those around you. What Katniss did for Prim, for Peeta, and in a way for Rue. What President Coin meant when telling Katniss that this revolution is about more than just Peeta. And god, just that scene encapsulates it so perfectly!
In the book the warning Peeta gives is less clear cause he's having a hard time fighting the highjacking. So Haymitch and Katniss have to convince Coin and co that it's serious. At the mention of my name, Peeta's face contorts in effort. “Katniss…how do you think this will end? What will be left? No one is safe. Not in the Capitol. Not in the districts. And you…in Thirteen…” He inhales sharply, as if fighting for air; his eyes look insane. “Dead by morning!” Off camera, Snow orders, “End it!” Beetee throws the whole thing into chaos by flashing a still shot of me standing in front of the hospital at three-second intervals. But between the images, we are privy to the real-life action being played out on the set. Peeta's attempt to continue speaking. The camera knocked down to record the white tiled floor. The scuffle of boots. The impact of the blow that's inseparable from Peeta's cry of pain. And his blood as it splatters the tiles.
42:44 “it’s the things we love most that destroy us” he basically was finally convinced that Katniss loves Peeta so he opted to use him to destroy her😢
I like to think that when President Snow challenged her to convince him that she loved Peeta, he already knew or at least suspected that she had some small feelings for Peeta. Therefore, with the effort of trying to convince everyone that she loved him, those small feelings would grow into something more real. At that point, President Snow would be able to use Peeta as a weapon against her. When you think about it, how would Katniss convincing the districts that she loved Peeta change anything? Snow already knew that the revolution was inevitable and that if Katniss was able to then she would be the face of it, so he needed to create something to use against her and to make her vulnerable.
Poor Peeta, poor Johanna, poor Annie :-( I hate when Gale says "I saw a coward. I would never say what he just said. Not if they tortured me, not with a gun to my head." What if they threatened your siblings or your entire district Gale ? District 13 citizens calling Peeta a traitor is stupid. Peeta didn't even know that District 13 existed or that there was a rebellion. How can you be a traitor to a cause you know nothing about. They just abandonned him and Johanna. Peeta saved all of their asses with his warning and he paid the price. Poor kids, him and Katniss are not even adults yet and they went through so much. No wonder they are completely traumatized.
Fun fact about the pearl in the books, Katniss describes herself pressing it to her lips and it feeling sort of like a kiss from the boy with the bread (obviously referring to Peeta)❤
I'm not sure if anyone said it, I didn't see one, but the reason the cat's color changed was due to in the books it was a ragged yellow cat(hence the name buttercup), and the fan base got upset with the movie cat being black and white, so they changed the cat in the second movie.
Funny tidbit about this movie, they were originally going to end the movie with the black screen after Peeta got knocked out. But they added those last scenes because they knew fans would be pissed and not want to wait a whole year for part two 😂
You'd think people in a place like District 13 would have been trained to respond to emergencies in a calm, orderly fashion. All throughout my school years we regularly had fire drills and we were trained from an early age not to pick up anything, just walk calmly to the exit and go outside with our class and teacher. I found years later, that myself and many people still have that calm response when a fire alarm goes off at work.
“Sounds like Gale is a little JELLYYYY” duh, where have you been? 🤣 half of his character arc is just being jealousy personified. Bread Boy leaves him quaking constantly.
The cat is SUPPOSED to be orange. One of the things the fans complained about in the first movie is that Buttercup (named because of his orange fur) was the wrong color, so they corrected it.
He did. I don't blame him at all for the thing. Evryone hates him for it and I don't get it. An accident doesn't take away all the good shit he did. He saved district 12 from going extinct. he helped stop the Hunger Games. collateral Damage happens in a war.
In the books I'm pretty sure that they left all of the houses in the victors village standing so that when people from the capital had to go there they would have somewhere nice to stay.
8:34 the reason they changed the cat is because in the book buttercup was a ginger kitty and the fans were very vocal about them using a black and white cat instead of an orange cat in the first movie so the director made the decision to change the cat to the correct color according the book lore.
Laugh if you will at Jennifer Lawrence's singing, but The Hanging Tree made the Top 15 in the US, UK and a bunch of other countries. It reached #1 in Germany, Hungary and Austria.
Boggs is a great character to show the military attitude in all of this. I don't think people in the USA are familiar with what can be used against prisoners in conflicts like this. The actor who plays Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) said they did the assault scene many times to get it perfectly and that he had a headache from being hit on the head so many times.

This is my favourite movie of the series, even though a lot of people think its boring. I like the anticipation, the slow building, the moves and counter moves, the political games, the small protest turning into a revolution. For the same reasons I love the fifth harry potter movie, and a lot of people hate it 😂
What is funny is, when coin orders to reduce oxygen composition to 15 percent, I don't know if she meant 15 percent of the original amount or just 15 percent because the oxygen composition of air is only 20 percent most of which is nitrogen

But the whole world is watching Palestine children being killed, refugees being burnt alive and we can't come to a consensus. It's horrible but this is the world today. "They destroyed everything, they didn't even take the land". Same thing is happening in Gaza and the West Bank. They are destroying monuments, universities, hospitals. They are starving them to death. They are killing their children. They are bombing hospitals just because "MAYBE" a terrorist went in. Killing hundreds to catch one person. And then they wonder why Palestinians choose to join the resistant. When you have nothing else to lose, when they have taken everything from you... What else would you do?
Tell me you'd be a Capitol citizen, without telling me... You don't get to attack and kidnap people (Oct 7 2023), run away, and then call timeout playing the victim hiding behind/underneath civilians while still plotting to achieve the extermination of an entire ethnic group like it's 1939 again. Civilians who by the way, elected those terrorists and still even now don't resist their leadership.
