My reservoir has a slow leak so I've ordered a new reservoir. While I'm waiting for the new reservoir I'm going to do multiple flushes so when I install the new reservoir all will be in top shape.
Thanks for the video. I have always used this method but now have very heavy steering at parking speeds and a noisy pump which kills RPM. There is nothing that I have seen that shows recommended change intervals for the filter (reservoir). Is there a chance that this filter is becoming blocked and causing the problem?
Great video. There is a different procedure with draining out thru inlet hose by cranking the engine w/fuel pump fuse pulled out - it's faster but messier. This is a good alternative. How many times do you think you'd have to drain & fill to get it to looking close to new? My guess is around 10-12 "flushes".
Flushing it till it looks new would be overkill. If you want it to look like new you'd be better off disconnecting hoses at the rack so you can drain entire system. For my personal preferences I'll flush it until I can see the filter at the bottom...that should be clean enough.
I'm probably too late to help, but I know the BMW spec is Dexron-III (3) ATF. Dexron-II (2) ATF is a pretty old spec that isn't seen much anymore. Dexron-III is backwards compatible if a manufacturer call for Dexron-II, but I wouldn't use II if they call for III. That said, a power steering system uses this oil as a hydraulic fluid rather than like a gear lube, so it probably wouldn't matter much. But any Dexron-III should be fine and it's pretty cheap at any parts store, so I'd go with the new fluid. BTW, if you happen to see Dexron-VI for cheap but not any III, it will be fine too, I think (also backward compatible with III).
@@UMepher To make things more confusing, the Dexron naming scheme is not current. By modern naming conventions you want D4 ATF which is backwards compatible with Dexron-III. Redline D4 synthetic ATF is a good choice.
Is this the 320td? So I have this question, next to the oil lid on the left side you have this black hose that connects that vacuum pump next to the windshield liquid tank, where does that hose leads to, because I dont have it on the 318ti...I only have that round pump without the hose...
Well, If you have a little more time and money you should also replace the reservoir that also serves as a filter. I really don't drive this car very much so I only changed the fluid.
thank you Mr Bimmer Zen!! This is Very Informative!! i have a few questions..i will send you an email Stay Healthy!!! Can you please do Radiator and Engine Coolant Drain, and Refill on the N42 Engine....
for the easy way no need to flush from bottom(drain plug)...how many liter need to makesure this process on power steering fluids in good condition? i'm thinking to do this prosess on my e90 320d 2011 soon..
Thanks!
Great video. That white thing in the oil bottle is oil filter,so....it is recomended to change it(whole bottle)because it is one unit.Pozdrav iz Hr.👍
That would be even better. I just went with a bit easier and cleaner procedure, but admittedly also less effective.

Thanks for your videos, it's very interesting, I hope you upload more of them about n42 n46 engine. Long live to the E46 🦾
1 liter was enough to flush and to top up level at the final?

Thank You boss 👌👍 very well job 👌

3 flushes dont you saw lamme
Thank you.
How many liters of ATF oil do you suggest to buy for this operation? My car is exactly same condition as yours.
Nice contente gracias
How many bottles of oil have you used? You did it 3 times with only one bootle ?
If I remember correctly, I only used one bottle (1L).
@@BimmerZen thanks man, I will do it today 🙋♂️
I can you explican idle instable??can you help ?
start with checking for vacuum leaks and CCV, very common cause of uneven idle.
Hello i have a power steering gear oil with Dextron II D specification, should i use it or buy ATF ?>

You must to connect new hose.
Is just a hose with an filter.
Just suck air when the car needs..for cold start etc..!

The hose and the second air filter
No!
This is 318 ti with N42B18 petrol engine.
Just the same like my car
@@nikosstentoumis3961 thats sounds good, can it be this model baujahr 2000 has no second air filter? It has no opening...
I dont now.
You must search your model engine to see.
lock to lock when the car is running before extracting ?
What are your thoughts on replacing the reservoir seeing as your pouring in new fluids?

I think about 2-3 liters will be sufficient.
@@BimmerZenthanks mate, it that mean I have to buy about 2-3liter compare to drain from bottom plug that I have to buy about 1liter? .. 😂
@@nikmohdrostamniksoh4457 yes
@@BimmerZen ok mate 🙏
Any chance in the future you could you make a head gasket replacement video 🤔
Te be honest, not likely. They usually don't go bad on these engines.
Step one remove engine. Step 2 put in new engine. You’re welcome.
My friend how can I contact you
