    I owned the RF 85mm f1.2L and ended up selling it as I found myself too introverted to feel comfortable moving forward with portrait photography. But I have come to regret that decision as I look back and realize that a great majority of my favourite images come from that lens. Now that I have replaced my R6 with the R5 I find myself thinking about this lens more and more! I have shot with the Zeiss Otus 55mm f1.4 and both of these lenses something special with the rendering, hard to explain unless you've experienced it!

    i rarely use my camera for portraits so decided to go with the Tamron SP VC 85 f/1.8 and am happy with it.

    I borrowed this lens for a 8+ wedding, the reason I borrowed it was to try it wide open. The image quality like you said was so incredible, spent the whole day with it along side with the 28-70... they were so beautiful together. I didn't really feel the weight. I do own the 85 f2 version, the images are beautiful on that lens also, but there is something about the 1.2 version. I need to save some $$$ to get that version😅

      Yes, it is definitely something special. And the price tag reflects that 😂

      @@JustinMyersPhotoconstructive feedback: it was weird to watch a video with one eye in light and other barely visible. Great information in this video.

    Great job Justin, just purchased this lens, can't wait to try it out more (my wife about fell over when I told her the price). My son's HS graduation and prom are coming up, hoping to get some great shots partnered with my R5 (wide open at 1.2 all the way, no excuses for bad shots now). The quick response to the eye auto focus and the creamy background look on some test shots I took is amazing. Right now I do take family photo's for friends and family, this will knock their socks off, nice way to make some side money when I retire. I feel the size of the lens is a complete non-factor and way overhyped.

    I haven't had the opportunity to use the Canon 1.2 85mm, but I did buy the Rokinon RF 85 1.4 (for $450) before Canon brought the hammer down on 3rd party lens manufacturers and I can say, I'm please with the version of the 85 mm lens.

    Thinking abt getting the RF 85mm 1.2 used to photograph my daughter’s volleyball games. Using the 28-70mm F2 at the moment.

    I recently bought the all metal Viltrox 85MM RF mount via eBay about $399. Works great, looks great, price is...great!

      Great! The optics from that lens seem to be very similar to the Canon EF 85mm f1.8 lens

      @@ynama6168 I made a video comparing the RF 85mm f2 and EF 85mm f1.8, but like I said, I haven’t used the Viltrox personally. To my knowledge though, Viltrox isn’t selling that lens anymore

    Ok. So the big question is. Having canon rp and couple basic lenses from rf family should I upgrade to r6 and 24-105/f4 or should I keep my rp and buy 85/f1.2? The thing is that one day in far future I’ll finally get rf85 and I won’t be using 24-105 as much.

    • @majorpayne0195
      @majorpayne0195 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me invest on glass. RP is still a good camera and the glass will surely stay with you longer.

    In my opinion all the new photography gear are way too expensive for what it is… Only few peoples can afford that now, and certainly less in the future… But not a problem, the planet is covered by « old » gear who is already really good 😊

    • @JustinMyersPhoto
      @JustinMyersPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is certainly plenty of used gear that can be found for affordable prices. Which may actually be a strong argument for making the newer lenses better and more expensive. Why keep making the same level of quality lenses for less expensive when there is already plenty of equipment at that level in existence. Interesting.
