Hey everyone! Thanks so much for watching my first video back after a long break!
Sorry for the low light and slight hiss on the speaking parts, rebuilding the studio and it’s safe to say it’s taking time to get everything settled in and tweaked to my liking!
    Thanks again for watching!

I bought this pedal on your recommendation in a previous video and I totally concur with your views. Thank you for this thorough demo. Your charming and down-to-earth manner makes this interesting even for someone who might not even want a new pedal.👍

Ah nice one, I’m so glad you like the pedal and agree with what I think. Thank you so much for the kind words, I really do appreciate that.
Thanks again for watching and commenting.
      Thanks

Gavin these pedals have to do something that is very clever. They have to take the waveform they are offered and either slow it down or speed it up. When they speed it up they will have a big gap which has to be filled in because the information isn't there. Slowing it down means not using some of the information and slowing the rest of it down. That's all impossible in real time. I think for a practical octave up the process is via a wave folding. For down it requires the pedal to detect the incoming frequency and it tunes its own oscillator that runs at an octave below to create the sound.
OK that was a bit of googling but how this Gojirafx one works I don't know. Perhaps it has a time machine inside it or something...
I guess if you put some other pedals before an octaver it could cause it some trouble because detecting the fundamental could be harder?
Gritty and smooth. Octave up via wave folding would be gritty. Down I suppose will be smooth, as smooth as its oscillator.
So glad you are back with the demos because I find them enthralling, despite not owning any kind of instrument that would plug into a pedal.
Can't decide which was my favorite sound, although the last one was a much more complete chain and the tremolo just kicks it out of the park....

Thanks, that’s a Great analysis of the way octaving works, although I’m sorry to say I also don’t know what magic Gojira have put in this box.
You are so right about the pedal order! Trying things is always gonna be the best way to see what you like, but other than fuzz and drive, I have the octaver first - some even use it beige the fuzz and drive too for their needs. And the choice of where to play on the fretboard (7th fret and up on bass) and even flatwound strings, rolling the tone control off etc to shape the sound going in for the best effect are all common things people try. So many options, but some great space to explore sonically.
Thank you so much for the kind words and for watching and commenting. Your support really does mean so much! I’m so happy to be back doing demos and have some very fun things in store! I loved that clip too… will definitely make it into a song!
      Thanks again Martin!
