Rabea Massaad I respect you for bothering to answer, you did a great job for the purpose of the video. Gojira likes a bit of tapping I believe, for example on silvera that one part you guys played is tapped. :) EDIT: I mean the part at 16:44
Rabea Massaad Silvera is played on the E string. Fret 12 and tap 19, 17, 19, 20, 19, 20, 22, 20, 19, 20, 19, 16 to the rythem. High part is just an octave higher. (Sorry just made my OCD go crazy while watching because this is one of my favorite riffs to play lmao)

Jackson King V KVXT and Marshall DSL40 for Dave. I think in one of his old rig rundowns he said he likes mxr phase 90 and flange pedals. This would be quite a bit under the budget of £1500. I don't think Dave uses pedals often anyways, so you could maybe get away with buying none and buying a better Amp.

Gojira have been an absolute favourite of mine since I saw them live in Leeds last year, just before Magma was released. They are kings at what they do. Loved the video!
Your vocal panning has been off in quite a few videos. Guy on left panned to right and so on. Not a big thing, but annoying when watching with headphones.
As a Gojira fan, and a french guy, I'd say you didn't do bad, but nor really great either. You came close, but their tone is more precise, agressive and open, yours sounded kinda muffled. It weren't a complete fail, but I think some of the choices you made were off. Like the Chapman. No hate on Chapman, I quite like those guitars, but since they stopped having seymour duncan pickups and started having their own pickups, they stopped sounding like duncans, and one of the absolute need for Gojira, besides the Evh 5150/Peavey 6505 sound are duncans. One big thing that they have and that you comletely overlooked too is delay. They use quite a lot of it, especially for riffs like L'enfant sauvage. This all being said, it is a rather good sound, and I think any death/groove metal band would be rather happy to have that gear. For the songs themselves: you didn't play the Stranded riff properly, a big part of this riff is the gliding between the normal notes and the pitch shifted ones (also, they just play arpeggio, kinda slowly). For Explosia, the "Gojira slide" were kinda off, it's way more squealy in the original, maybe due to the gear sounding darker. And for Silvera, it's actually tapping, which is kind of a staple of their writing, so I'd have liked to see how this rig sounded with tapping. All in all, rather good rig, but could've done better. Can't wait for the by busting the bank version. For suggestions for future episodes: Joy Division Kvelertak (possibly with Joss helping out as they have 3 guitarists) Opeth Leprous Devin Townsend Slayer Megadeth Carcass Nile Morbid Angel Grave Deicide Entombed Orange Goblin Clutch Fu Manchu Truckfighters High on Fire Red Fang Sleep Just basically any stoner band, really Some black metal would be cool too, like Behemoth Darkthrone Mayhem Dissection Alcest Harakiri for the Sky Emperor
It's not just a great idea, but it's also not too hard either. A good Epiphone Les Paul through a strong solid state amp with some fuzz and octave, and you can figure out the rest rather easily. The only issue I see is that Buzz is known for using 15 inch speakers in his custom Blown cabinets, so I'm not sure if it would sound drastically different with 12 inch speaker amps.
Nice to see some heavy metal on here! Btw, I think there was a panning issue while editing, Matt's vocal is only coming out of the right side. Just pointing that out!
I have been waiting for this episode for years. Gojira is a band that sounds as huge as a city. I always imagine that their just amplify a suspension bridge for their guitar tone. It's definitely a difficult tone to get, because so much of it seems to be in the final studio mix, with the bass and the drums and everything making this tremendous sound. But this was definitely right in the ballpark, so thanks for the video! Loved it.
Could we get a video of Rab playing riffs like this but only a close up on his right hand? He was def moving his index finger to get a few riffs in. Never seen that before. Also props boys, sounds like for sure

I genuinely would like to know why everyone on Andertons is saying, “I like to do dat” in a goofy voice. Is it an inside joke? From a British TV show? What’s going on with this meme?
Hey guys, Great Video! Really nice sound and of course nice playing. I just wanted to share the amp settings that I've used for a birthday gift for an friend of mine who really likes Gojira. But first, what do I use: I actually play an Katana 100 (so I guess these settings will help a lot of you since the Katana is a popular amp.), and an ESP LTD SN-200FR (nice guitar for the price. You can of course use any other guitar with high output pickups). So, the settings I use are these: Lead Channel Gain: 70 Volume: 50 (These are funnily also the settings for the Noise Gate.) Bass: 40 Mids: 50 Treble: 60 (so you get this nice \ | / shape...) Presence: 50 You see that there isnt that much gain in there, even if I pushed the gain to 100 it just didnt sound anything like Gojira. (ALL THE GAIN) So, I simply put a Tube Screamer from the Katana Software in there. These are the settings: Drive: 0 Tone: 0 Bottom: 0 Effect Level: ALL OF IT (0 on tone and Bottom means the middle position |) As you can see the "pedal" pushes a lot but hasnt got any gain at all. As for the Pitch Shifter... I dont have one. So the one in the video is propably the best shot for your buck. I actually played Stranded (which is in the video) on the 18 fret so its the same octave. For anyone interested I calculated the price for all this stuff ^^ (andertons website): Boss Katana 100 1x12: £257 ESP LTD SN-200FR: Now If you really want to sound like Gojira, dont buy this guitar. The only reason for that is the Floyd Rose. For everything else (like Dream Theater for example) Its great! It cost about £250 Now, I looked up the price for a Pitch Shifter and I dont know why you should use the Pitchfork. Can somebody explain this to me? (Yes, I know I said "the one in the video is propably the best shot for your buck" but I changed my mind. DEAL WITH IT) The Digitech one costs about £130 to £170 and the Pitchfork with the expression pedal costs about £200. So everything together will cost you about ~£700 so its pretty cheap actually. Of course its depening on which guitar you chose, if you upgrade the Katana to a 2x12 and the Pitch Shifter. You can also buy a Tube Screamer which will cost you about £100. So, what do you think? If you have a Katana you can test these settings and please write me if I should change something. (I will simply update the Top comment.) I think its pretty close, especially for the "cheap" price. (Having £700 or not is still a lot of money ^^) Thanks for reading this stupidly long comment. I dont have anything special down here for you, soo... Have a cookie my friend! 🍪
A really great video. Cannot speak for the accuracy of the tones as this is the first I have heard of Gojira's music (know the name but little else), but yeah those tones sounded immense. As a few requests, I would love it if you did: - Porcupine Tree / Steven Wilson (unbelievable prog rock / metal and not incredibly complex in terms of pedals) - Nine Inch Nails (some amazing guitar tones on some tracks) - King Crimson (A bit of a challenge I will grant but I think it would be possible at least in terms of the early pre-New Standard Tuning) - Unknown Mortal Orchestra (Really nice kinda psychedelic bluesy rock, with a really odd lo-fi vibe.) - Opeth (Will need one or two different gain sounds and an acoustic sim but again not that hard.)
Rabea is obviously enjoying this shredding seesion :D This is your style indeed. Joss shredding was really good as well. Oh, and maybe a Sounds Like Killswitch Engage ?
I think tones of Justice and master are heavily produced and EQ'ed. It's very hard to sound as smooth thick and powerful with just one guitar in a room.
Having watched the series for quite some time I've noticed that you are using only a few different amps (DSL 40, HT20 Katana). I guess that's because these amps are very versatile and at the same time inexpensive. Nevertheless I feel like a small change of the rules to allow more different equipment to be used would be nice. I would suggest giving every player a free cabinet so that you only need to buy the head. That way good lunchbox amps are in the price range. I think it would also help creating those American High Gain sounds on a budget.
I’m a big fan of these videos, but when you don’t have the correct gear in stock, you should consider not doing the video. The sound is too muddy. The Chapman sounds nothing like the $599 US Charvel Joe Duplantier sig and you could have at least used EVH lunchbox amps
Nice job without busting the bank ! For ones who are interested they started with Gibson explorers and LesPaul in a Marshall valvestate and then Rectifiers on "The Link". After they went with Jackson SLS and RR in a Peavey 6505 for "From Mars to Sirius". Now it's Charvel and RR signatures in EVH 5150. Christian uses 14-56 strings in standard D on his signature RR ! If you have good passive humbuckers, thick strings and a 5105 or 6550 it should sound great with no effects !
Guys, you got the pitch fork but you didn't use it on Silvera? Also the octave up part on Stranded isn't quite right. Rhythm tones sounded pretty spot on to me though.
I've got basically this same video coming out really soon!

So, I simply put a Tube Screamer from the Katana Software in there. These are the settings:
Drive: 0 Tone: 0 Bottom: 0 Effect Level: ALL OF IT (0 on tone and Bottom means the middle position |)
As you can see the "pedal" pushes a lot but hasnt got any gain at all.
As for the Pitch Shifter... I dont have one. So the one in the video is propably the best shot for your buck. I actually played Stranded (which is in the video) on the 18 fret so its the same octave.
For anyone interested I calculated the price for all this stuff ^^ (andertons website):
Boss Katana 100 1x12: £257 ESP LTD SN-200FR: Now If you really want to sound like Gojira, dont buy this guitar. The only reason for that is the Floyd Rose. For everything else (like Dream Theater for example) Its great! It cost about £250
Now, I looked up the price for a Pitch Shifter and I dont know why you should use the Pitchfork.
(Having £700 or not is still a lot of money ^^)
Thanks for reading this stupidly long comment. I dont have anything special down here for you, soo... Have a cookie my friend! 🍪
Faith No More By busting pleaaaaseeee!!!
Seconded.
Yes!!!
I must say, I'm loving the way that chapman tele looks! Also, can't wait for Gorjira BY busting the bank.
Joss is in the back @4:43
I have been waiting for this one for a long time!!!
Time to do another fun 90's band. The Offspring please.
Saw these guys open for metallica in San Diego, Massive sounding. Super humble too
Sound like Buckethead!!!
Manuel yes please!
Problem is he sounds different on every album
A really great video. Cannot speak for the accuracy of the tones as this is the first I have heard of Gojira's music (know the name but little else), but yeah those tones sounded immense.
As a few requests, I would love it if you did:
- Porcupine Tree / Steven Wilson (unbelievable prog rock / metal and not incredibly complex in terms of pedals)
- Nine Inch Nails (some amazing guitar tones on some tracks)
- King Crimson (A bit of a challenge I will grant but I think it would be possible at least in terms of the early pre-New Standard Tuning)
- Unknown Mortal Orchestra (Really nice kinda psychedelic bluesy rock, with a really odd lo-fi vibe.)
- Opeth (Will need one or two different gain sounds and an acoustic sim but again not that hard.)
Metallica by BUSTING the bank!!
Mesa boogie mark IIc+ ...that's all :D
@@TheKonikTV so no need for a guitar or cables?
Congrats, it's finally here
Rabea is obviously enjoying this shredding seesion :D This is your style indeed. Joss shredding was really good as well. Oh, and maybe a Sounds Like Killswitch Engage ?
METALLICA BY BUSTING !!!
Check out here on youtube they now use AXE FX live ! Nothing fancy !
But the old tones... wiht the mod Marshalls and Mesa Boogies...
I think tones of Justice and master are heavily produced and EQ'ed. It's very hard to sound as smooth thick and powerful with just one guitar in a room.
Gojira has 2 guitarists. They do a bassist when they're doing a band with one guitarist.
Omg yes wooo. Been requesting this for ages
Sounds like Opeth
Rabea's sound was nearly bang on. It is uncanny that you could get that close.
Sound like Michael Schenker
Sick riffs, and I really enjoy that Flux Drive.
Sounds like Children of Bodom
ESP Alexi
Marshall Amp
Boss Delay
Boss Chorus
Dunlop Kirk Hammett Wah
sorted
May that be the first Chapman that got used in this series? Nice choice, guys! The rigs sound badass!
I instantly dropped what I was doing to watch this, no regrets
That blue LTD in the background during the guitar into is gorgeous 😍
4:43 LMAO
Sneaky Joss
I thought i was the only one who noticed that hahaha
Joss being a creep
I was literally thinking of this a few days ago and now here it is!
Mick Ronson, both w Bowie and Ian Hunter, please!
Gibson les paul or Epiphone les paul
Marshall DSL
Fuzz
Wah
and maybe some complimentary delays and or reverbs
Sounds like the shaggs or Lil Wayne by bustling the bank
Yes this is amazing I’ve been waiting
sound like trivium should be the next
When you played stranded my ears died
Didn’t have much hope after they said the wrong tuning at the beginning lol
Josh! You maniac! I love your style!
Sound like machine head!
Fantastic work as always guys. Do you think you would be willing to tackle Meshuggah next? :-)
Sounds like J. Mascis/Dinosaur Jr.!!!
Guys, you got the pitch fork but you didn't use it on Silvera? Also the octave up part on Stranded isn't quite right. Rhythm tones sounded pretty spot on to me though.
16:42 that is by far the laziest version of that riff I've ever heard
Gojira by busting the bank! Great job, good sounding rig.
sounds like megadeth!
FINALLY! My prayers have been heard!
