Wow. I have been wanting to add an octave pedal to my board but haven't found one that I am quite happy with... until now. This sounds great! Hopefully I don't push it too hard with my signal - I'm not exactly a light player.
It’s a quirky pedal. I use my C4 with a preset to nail the OC-2 sound exactly that tracks even better. But the Seamoon gets a totally different sound that works really well with my other pedals to create additional synthy sounds. It’s actually one of my favorite pedals now but it did take some experimenting to find its niche.
The Meatbox is a dangerous device!!! 😂🤘🏻 I would set it at least at 40Hz, or even somewhere around 60-70Hz. Yes quite high, but your power/volume ratio will benefit from it a lot.
Hi! Could be as long as the meatbox isn’t push too hard. Then it becomes a dangerous monster that will devour your speakers! Whereas even with the sub at max the Octatron is still useable. 😉
I recently purchased this pedal partly on your recommendation. This is a very poor example of an octave pedal. The MXR Bass Octave Deluxe and Boss OC-2 are very good octave pedals. The Seamoon Octatron has so many flaws by comparison that I really can’t be bothered going over them. My recommendation to those tempted to buy this awful thing: Try it first!
Oh wow… Sorry to hear that! I owned the MXR and had the opposite experience 😅. I also own two OC-2 (one MIJ and the other MIT) and they do have a unique sound but are “slower”, not as responsive, as the Seamoon.
My MXR pedal tracks flawlessly down to low F#, can handle slap and even 5ths. Not so the Seamoon (for me). Low notes are reduced in volume and higher ones are louder (than the bypassed signal) with the Octatron (!). I’ve tried different basses, put a compressor before it and reduced the input to the pedal with no satisfaction. Mine does not sound like yours. Perhaps quality is inconsistent with these
@carlton1390 no doubts about the tracking of the MXR, none whatsoever! It’s more a question of how it feels and I’m glad you get the best out of it. Actually that’s the beauty of these devices, they each better suit our needs.
Well, I’ve now spent more time with it and have found some positives! The two octaves down is useable (unlike the OC-2) and it sounds good. When playing it next to my MXR BOD I actually prefer the sound of the Seamoon! I found that by tuning up the SUB control on the Octatron it’s possible to bring the volume of low notes up to match the higher ones- this does however bring up the overall volume of the pedal which is a jump up from the bypassed volume. Also, as you say, it’s easy to overload the input stage. I do actually like this pedal now (!)- thanks for your patience with my ranting!
Really great review. Verbally and sonically explained clearly.
Thanks!
That opening track !!
great stuff.
Thanks!
What a comprehensive video. Thanks man.

I enjoy the subs I get out of it. 😉
So I guess I’ve got some more octave pedals to buy!
Sorry… 😂
Hello sorry to bother you I have a question which pedal is better octatron by seamoon or mxr octave deluxe? Thank you
It all comes down to tastes. I had the MXR, couldn’t quite get the hang of it, but others swear by it!!!
nice video. At what frequency would you set an HPF for a sub octaver like the meatbox?

seamoon answer to the meatbox ?
