So, I forgot about this Metallica song until I came across it while I was viewing other videos. I was bawling by the time it was over. I raised one son as a single mother and it was hard. He moved out at 16 and it's been a struggle the last 3 plus years to repair our relationship. I searched and searched for a song to dedicate to him that had some significance to our relationship for his 18th birthday. This one was sitting under my nose and it's from my favorite band too! Thank you again Metallica for another great one. Tristin, if you ever read this, know that I love you and tried my best. In my ❤ always, Mom
James says it's not. Like the whole rest of the song it's about James' mom who died when he was a teenager because she fell ill and their messed up religion forbid medical treatment.
Imagine being James in this time, well into your 30s and already experienced being the lead in the biggest metal band of all time. You pour your heart and soul out on an intimate and personal song from a more experimental album and all your fans do is call it shit because it doesn’t sound like Master of Puppets anymore. Load/Reload get better with age. I start to relate more and more with the songs and their decision to move away from thrash as I get older. I’m glad to see others feel the same as time goes on
The problem was the look and the atitude of Lars and Kirk at time ... They wanted to be on the show biz Hollywood elite ... And that let James and Jason pissed off ...
This song has a strong message, it talks about a son who loses his mother early and needs to mature early, and that son is James Hetfield, something he needed to overcome and move on in life, a lot of Metallica fans call this album crap , unfortunately, there are few people who see much beyond music, Mama Said is a work of art that few musicians, even rock musicians, are able to produce such art and express the strong message it has, Metallica is more than a band from Heavy and Thrash Metal, it's the band of life!🙏🔥❤
i cant really compare metallica albums to one another but personally, my fav albums are load and reload albums, instead of giving the message with pure rage and hatred, those albums are more emational and touching and most importantly personal about their lives, especially james hetfield's life and i have a serious respect for him, his past, their band and their past.
@@seymenozcan Load and Reload albums are "hated" only because the fans expected thrash metal forever from Metallica. If any random band made them they would be universally praised.
This is a song for James Hetfield's mother, who died of cancer when he was young. The song talks about his regrets of not being able to spend more time with her and how he hopes that she will still love him when he sees her again ("Mama now I'm coming home. I'm not all you wished of me. A mother's love for her son unspoken, help me be. Yeah I took your love for granted and all the things you said to me. I need your arms to welcome me. Around 2:40 is where the pace/mood changes and you can really see/hear the way Metallica builds a song like no other. This album is full of moments like this.
Load really is a work of art. I hear some people say it is underrated, but I think that any real Metallica fan knows this is one of their best albums. Outlaw torn is my personal favourite from load
People say that this album is trash. I say this album is a musical masterpiece. So many uses of different sounds. So many different types of genres. Plus this absolute masterpiece with beautiful harmonizing vocals and an amazing guitar playing in the background.
Those people had and continue to have bad taste. They're probably baffled by how James sounded after he shredded his voice, had to fix it, and suddenly learned he's a fuckin' baritone. Uncultured swine, the lot of them.
Almost 20 years after the release and people still whining about "That ain't Metallica" This is not about being Metallica or not, this is about a deep song, full of soul and meaning. Good thing Metallica can play any type of music and they are all good still.

I just heard this again after two years of pain for guilt, and anger for not having that cup of coffee with her or years of not talking to her. i know she forgave me. But i can't forgive myself. I wasn’t raised in the 90s but I’m sure a lot of hardcore Metallica fans were like, “Metallica going country? Are you fucking serious?” But looking back today, it’s a great song in my opinion that brings out James’ real emotion about his late mother .
my mom passed from throat cancer a year ago. this is a beautiful song. I tell you this man, I know my mom is in Heaven with Jesus Christ her savior. He is the Giver of Life Eternal. God bless friend.

Lost my mother to cancer in June and I'm still grieving inside. It comes and goes, like waves. The last verse hits me hard...I live in a foreign country, went back to her as much as the job allowed me to.. Longest phone talks everyday. She was my best friend, amazing human being.A teacher, she would stay at school, unpaid for the extra hours, just to do theatre workshops and let kids express themselves through art.I miss her so much.I just wish I could have made her proud while she was on earth, that she could hear the album I'm recording. I just hope she is a better place and maybe in time I will be able to let go of all this pain.
I can't even sing along to this without the sadness wavering in my voice. I miss my mom, lung cancer from smoking those damn Marlboro red soft packs took her from us. Love your mother while she's still around. You usually only get one. Don't take her love for granted. You never know how much time you have. You're gonna miss them hugs and that love she had for you. Losing her hurts worse than any physical pain I've ever felt. Rips your heart right out of your chest and leaves a big hole you can't fill with anything. Only time helps heal that shit, but it never fully heals. That pain stays with you.

In my opinion the Metallica Load and Re-Load is still their best era today because in the late 90's they have proven that you can create something new and be successful at the same time.
The thing I love about Metallica is they are such a moving band. And some of these lyrics can relate to a lot of people. “All these words I don’t just say.”
I'm a typical "80s Metallica is best Metallica" guy and this song used to be laughable to me but I've just randomly put this song on and I'm a bit blown away. I love it now!
This is one of the songs that shows that Metallica is very versatile. Ok, not everything they make is gold, but at least they are willing to experiment. And sometimes it produces songs like this one. Absolutely magnificent.
"Mama, she has taught me well Told me when I was young Son, your life's an open book Don't close it 'fore its done The brightest flame burns quickest..."
Man, these people are artists. You can't force an artist to always stick to a genre. "Do this, do this", " oh that's not good, do this". They should follow their instincts and feelings. That's how art works.
This song reveals such deep feelings that it just can't be put on metal, it's like a sad story told by a man who's best doing this. Honestly I like Metallica for all their songs, but these ballads are their best work in my opinion.
I agree completely. without songs like this metal wouldnt be its fullest potential because to me, metal IS a form of emotion. many metal heads im sure can agree with the fact that, anything fast, agressive, lyrically driven is more about the meaning and message then the entertainment of the song. this work is why I love metal, and music in general. It just goes to show who's in it for the message not the money. ya know? #musicislife

Screw what anyone else says, Load is my favorite Metallica album. I love all the different types of songs in it and the lyrics are just on another level.
My first concert was Metallica during the "Load" tour in January of 1996. I was 12, went with my older brother. Changed my life. Korn opened for the them and was "booed" throughout their whole set lol. People bash Metallica for straying away from their thrash roots in the 90's and 2000's but honestly they wrote some great rock songs, its a shame when people can't appreciate both.
Well we usually go with out very first memories and the first stuff we ever heard, as first impressions are usually the most important, so many of us love the old thrash Metallica. As far as what's sad, it's even sadder when you get these people who are ready to kill you for criticizing Metallica or their other fave bands..fighting over music is indeed ridiculous..
Human race will never advance? It has advanced in the past. There's evidence of that everywhere. Human race has advanced and keeps advancing. However what would keep human race from advancing is fear of change and the hatred of change that always accompanies fear. Nothing progresses without change. The hatred of change is an evil thing. Evil and illogical. Why hate on Metallica for changing? Sure, they're different now but different doesn't equal bad. Metallica's Load/Re-Load period was great. Ofc not everyone likes this kind of music but to diss and artist just because it's not for your taste is simply childish and ignorant.
***** Of course the human race has advanced..Albert Einstein said that he didn't know what weapons WW3 would be fought with but WW4 would be fought with sticks and stones...progress...
Kain Nosgoth That's not a fact though. You can't take famous persons quotes as facts. For all we know WW4 will never happen. For all we know it will be fought with the same technology we currently have. Maybe with lasers or with technology we cannot even imagine right now. 100 years ago nobody could have imagined internet. You couldn't even explain it to them. The reason he said that was because nuclear warfare fantasy was a hot topic at the time. U.S.A had just nuked Japan. It only seemed like nuclear warfare is the next step in warmonger. Einstein was not a god. He was not all knowing and just like every other person his thoughts and opinions were affected by current events. He said it to make a point but if we look past that then his opinion on WW3 and WW4 are dated and irrelevant. Progress.
I first heard this song at the age of 14 and I was so happy about it. I was already a huge Metallica fan but I had lost my mom when I was 8. This song has a strong message, it talks about a son who loses his mother early and needs to mature early, and that son is James Hetfield, something he needed to overcome and move on in life, a lot of Metallica fans call this album crap , unfortunately, there are few people who see much beyond music, Mama Said is a work of art that few musicians, even rock musicians, are able to produce such art and express the strong message it has, Metallica is more than a band from Heavy and Thrash Metal, it's the band of life!🙏🔥❤
Esse álbum do Metallica custou 10 dólares
i cant really compare metallica albums to one another but personally, my fav albums are load and reload albums, instead of giving the message with pure rage and hatred, those albums are more emational and touching and most importantly personal about their lives, especially james hetfield's life and i have a serious respect for him, his past, their band and their past.
I didn’t want to like this comment because it has 111 likes and that is perfect! This is perfect. My fav metallica song

The album is not thrash... (scnr 😉)

I wasn’t raised in the 90s but I’m sure a lot of hardcore Metallica fans were like, “Metallica going country? Are you fucking serious?” But looking back today, it’s a great song in my opinion that brings out James’ real emotion about his late mother .
I dedicate this to my beloved mom, who passed away from cancer, like James' mother...May God rest her soul

St. Anger has helped me through the darkerst shit of my life. I relate to some of Load's songs. Metallica, I thank you for being there for me. Even if you won't read this, I love you guys.
God bless you bro, May her soul rest in heaven

Man, these people are artists. You can't force an artist to always stick to a genre. "Do this, do this", " oh that's not good, do this". They should follow their instincts and feelings. That's how art works.
In fact, staying in a box is a sign of NOT being an artist.

Load and Reload are both incredible albums. People call it bad because it isn’t heavy, but that is literally the point. They were just experimenting with different genres and styles of music.

My mother dying 25 year
When I was a teenager this song gave me the chills everytime I listened to it.
Cuz just the thought of losing my mom was unbearable, and now, after I lost my mom 2 years ago, listening to this song was not a very good idea.
It brought me to tears, and I rarely cry.
Same here, this is one of the only songs I listen to that ends up getting me too
the chorus feels so organic. so melodic. like the words dont have consonants. just a calm wave of his voice softly going through your head
Metallica will always be my favorite band of all times. This song is another masterpiece.
Makes me cry every time. Such a beautiful song
man this song brings tears to a man's eyes
Best country song I've ever heard! There is no other like Metallica!
Just metallica can did it
Screw what anyone else says, Load is my favorite Metallica album. I love all the different types of songs in it and the lyrics are just on another level.
Why does everybody give Load and Reload so much hate? They’re not metal but they have good songs on the albums.
Greghson 1 if they were released by another band I guarantee they’d be praised as classics
load is ok reload is poo
My first concert was Metallica during the "Load" tour in January of 1996. I was 12, went with my older brother. Changed my life. Korn opened for the them and was "booed" throughout their whole set lol. Anyways, that was my first Metallica experience and I'm proud to say I've seen them 3 times and even flown to San Francisco from AZ to see them since. My all time favorite band and "Load" is the first album I heard from them. Good music is good music.
some of my favourite Metallica songs are on those 2 albums
A lot of metal fans are pricks who shit on anything that they don’t consider metal. Metallica could have written the most perfect song ever written but if it’s not metal they’ll get shit for it
"i took your love for granted , and all the things you said to me
i need your arms to welcome me , but cold stone all i see.."
this part is thouching souls , you just cant hold the tears
IF YOUR LISTENING TO THIS SONG/METTALICA CONGRATS YOU HAVE ONE HELL OF A TASTE !!!
Some people can't embrace change...to them i say, too fucking bad princess, deal with it, but either way, STFU, no one wants to hear ya bitch.
Kain Nosgoth
That's not a fact though.
Progress.
This is nothing but a masterpiece by James and is by far the most beautiful vocals he’s ever produced
Het's vocals are so damn good! I also think this song show the other members of Metallica's versatility.
I first heard this song at the age of 14 and I was so happy about it. I was already a huge Metallica fan but I had lost my mom when I was 8. And to hear one of my favorite metal bands relate to the pain I felt on a personal level was so intimate for me. Still loving it and all the Metallica songs to this day ❤️
One of the best songs from Metallica! Beautiful ballad
*******************❤*.
I remember the first time I heard this song. My father bought me Load just one day before he went to NY to work. He spend almost 4 years away from home and at that time I did know if I will be able to see him any time soon. I felt that moment as a huge lost (thank God my father is alive). Every time I hear this song my memory goes back almost 20 years. It was a hard time, but at the same time that time formed my character.
One of the things that makes this band so great is they are so versatile. Thrash. Metal. Lighter metal. Just rock. Their sound is always crisp
I appreciate all of Metallica's work, from Kill 'Em All to St. Anger to Beyond Magnetic. Their music has always helped me make it through bad times.
+Victor Hugo Ditto Victor. Theres something that can help release the inner demon in a peaceful way.
+Victor Hugo "Beyond Magnetic"?
+LivingAsABraker Basically the songs that didn't make it on Death Magnetic.
TheCryptCrusader Didn't know that
+LivingAsABraker its an EP listen to it its cool
One of my favorite songs off Load. People always talk shit about how Metallica was not the same. I think they rocked every bit as hard, just in a different context. Absolutely a great fucking album!
eles haviam se vendido para o false new lixo metal! porém retornaram ao velho metal
I like this and wasting my hate
Metal and country..... Only James can do it
