Let's examine the word "words"... rearrange the letters to make "sword"... Words can cut like a sword... Not physically, but mentally/ spiritually...

I dont know if it's just me, but SOAD gives me this rasta preachy vibe mixed with heavy metal. It's a very unique genre. But nevertheless extremely addicting. Theres so many interesting nuances in their records, such a constant repeating of phrases, yelling phrases for emphasis, the switch from low to high tempo very rapidly, it may sound dumb but alot of these things are unique to soad and not really replicated

    • @ben1ben
      @ben1ben 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@@andralfooVoices do age yes, but this is actually not the case with why Serj sounds different, some people have the same voice after years and although Serj's talking voice did change a little, his Singing should be the same as he has his moments where he sounds like nothing ever happened. Here an example th-cam.com/video/xPW6jdKHPOw/w-d-xo.html for 20 seconds straight he just sounds amazing. The reason he sounds different today are that he doesn't really feel it as much as back in the day where he was all into it, and most importantly his Normal Singing, he does a thing I don't know if its a technique but lets just call it technique it's called Nasal Singing. It is a big help for singing and for reaching high notes but it sounds horrible. Vocal teachers teach you how to get out of the nasal singing and teach how to reach the notes without relying on that technique. So all this leads up to Serj needing to get some Vocal training. But as I said I don't think he is into it as much as he was, so he doesn't really care :/ his new singing style fits for the last 2 albums of SOAD and especially works for his solo career, but for actual singing and everything else its very very bad. Even with nasal singing I hear him sounding pitchy a lot so that's another evidence for him needing to get some Vocal lessons.

thats good, but man have you heard any other singers, MJK does a 25 second scream with more intensity in The Grudge, and yes he does it LIve, I've seen him do it twice on the Lateralus tour. No taking anything away, but Maynard has wayyyy more power and higher range. I highly suggest checking out the end of The Grudge by Tool, and his many screams of legend. Maynard's screams are legendary.

If you think they have a generic sound, listen to A Little Piece of Heaven, Save Me, Dear God, Unbound, Lost, Sidewinder, etc. Slipknot has done some interesting tracks like Iowa, (515), Vermillion Pt.2, etc. I can't really speak for Disturbed since I don't listen to them. Our shallow years in fright,
Dreams are made winding through my head,

    Before you know, Awake,
    Your lives are open wide,
    The V-chip gives them sight,
All the life running through her hair,
    The spiders all in tune,
    The evening of the moon,
Dreams are made winding through my head,
    Through my head,
    Before you know, Awake
    Through my head,

When I first heard this song over here in New Zealand I was completely blown away. I just couldn't believe the total serenity of its opening vocals before the crashing of atomic/nuclear-like guitar and drumming joining in. I couldn't help but wonder to myself 'gee so much for the Maynard James Keenan vocal led group Tool'...SOAD was like Tool with a double shot of testosterone thrown in for good measure. I love both bands and I believe both are intelligent groups ahead of their time. I've heard a lot of great artists over my time (I'm 53) and both bands are up there with the best in rock music history.

I agree with your comment, that both Tool and SOAD are unreal. They are a level that other bands can't reach. I wouldn't go as far as to say SOAD is better then TOOL. Maynard is an excellent vocalist and the band work well together. Their Drummer Danny is one of the best drummers ever, in my opinion. They produce a roller coaster of emotions in their songs. SOAD are fucking unreal. They also like TOOL produce mind blowing sounds and lyrics. I really couldn't say either of these bands are better, they both just fucking rule.

It's realy the highlight of the track, but in the video I think it's a mistake that the singer makes this "psycho face" and it's not the highly emotional moment I picture in my head. It takes me out of the mood. The aesthetic of the clip is beautiful tho.

Yes, everyone interprets things differently. Sometimes, though, some people tap in to a vibe...an emotional truth. Songs speak to us through more than their lyrics. Hell, I'd argue that while lyrics are vital, they are really just the adjectives that describe the emotion of the song itself.

I still remember the fist time I saw this. No internet back there, no cellphones, I didn't even had a computer. Only late night TV. My parents couldn't know though. I had like, six or seven TV channel options. Then I found it. I was scared but amazed. His voice was godlike.
The other day I went to school, and as I didn't know the name of the song and the band, I only talked to some friends, but none of them knew about the band. So I was certain I'd never hear about it again. But then came the internet. And all the misteries of my childhood no longer exist. I've managed to find every song and movie I'v watched back then and thought I'd never hear about again. While it was handy, it's a bit boring.
