This song reminds me of my dad, who committed suicide when I was 20, he was a war vet and Metallica was his fav band. I only play it twice a year, on his birthday and on a day he decided to end his life. Happy Birthday Dad.

Life, it seems, will fade away
    Drifting further, every day
    Getting lost within myself
    Nothing matters, no one else
I have lost the will to live
    Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
I need the end to set me free
Things not what they used to be
    Missing one inside of me
Deathly loss, this can't be real
I cannot stand this hell I feel
    Emptiness is filling me
    To the point of agony
    Growing darkness, taking dawn
I was me, but now he's gone
    No one but me
    Can save myself
    But it's too late
    Now I can't think
Think why I should even try
    Yesterday seems as though
    It never existed
    Death greets me warm

We drank to this song just 2 weeks ago and while we were playing it he was getting angry at me because I was playing it faster than it is.He passed away yesterday. This is probably the best Metallica song for two reasons:
    1. The sexiness of the harmony/melody connection

    • @WasilijSaizev
      @WasilijSaizev 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@WasilijSaizev "It's a suicide song, and we got a lot of flak for it, as if kids were killing themselves because of the song. But we also got hundreds of letters from kids telling us how they related to the song and that it made them feel better." -James Hetfield in an interview with Guitar World (1991). Hetfield also explained that he and Lars were obsessed with death while making the album. So yes, the song is about suicide. The reason why the song is so popular and why it's such a masterpiece is because so many people including myself relate to feelings portrayed in the lyrics.

I've heard countless renditions of this, but can't recall another where Kirk *nailed* the solo so well. This is sublime.

@@Deathcomes4usall yep thats the closest one to original solo i have heard, sadly Kirk is not a good live performer, he lacks on the fly improvising skills, james is better (cleaner) and the best improviser one of that gen probably is Slash

I lost one of my best friends in life to fucking drugs. We used to play Metallica a lot as a 3 person band. I miss him so much and feel so guilty that I wasnt there when I was needed. And Justice For All was that intro album that brought us together as teens. I love you Jason Worley, Im sorry I wasnt there for you.

This song reminds me of guy in my school who seemed to quite happy and even popular in school, and then one day he committed suicide, this is what was probably really going on in his mind.
I want to learn this song and dedicate it to him.

Sevastian Popov I'll never kill myself, Coz I love my life, I love my friends, I love my family, I love my parents, I love my teachers, and most of all I love GOD! The first best thing I love is: GOD, the second is: family, the third is: friends, teachers, parents, and family. I LOVE BEING ALIVE AND I LOVE MY LIFE!!!!!

You can't understand people that want to commit suicide. It is a state of mind none of us ever understood. I said the same thing except the GOD part then my grandfather commited suicide and one of my best friends wanted to kill himself. Talking to him opened my eyes, he talked to me and was honest it is not that he has bad life it is a mixture of fellings like being anxious, can't breathe, wanting to get out of your own skin. So everytime I her someone commited suicide I remember my friend and how it was horrible to listen to him and his state of mind that was messed up for no reason.

To me, depression means a lot of things, a lot more than just a feeling.
I've had days where I just feel a little blue or a bit off and felt depressed, and I've had days where it's consumed me, everything I do, say, hear, think and feel and made me feel completely devoid of any semblance of identity or humanity.
I've been in hospital and seen more people than I can remember and I've tried 4 or 5 different medications.
Depression is one of those things in life you can't fully put into words, you can try and read about it and listen to people talk about it, but until it gets in your head for whatever reason, you can't fully understand what it's like or even what it is.
And if you are ever trying to understand why someone has taken their life and find you just don't understand, then it seems you either have a lighter dark place, you don't have one at all, or you are yet to find yours.
But please know that regardless of how bad a place someone can be in, even if they take their life, it doesn't mean they don't love their family and friends.
      Hope this helps.
