Negative. Production was completely butchered (yet again) Death Magnetic is actually a really good Metallica record, but because the album was made to sound "loud" it sounds horrible, the drums sounds so dull and overblown. It's a shame, becuase this could have gone down as Metallica's return to greatness, but went down as a failed attempt to make a comeback.
@@HerotsLament No they did make a comeback and drums sounds pretty unique. A lot of old school and new fans dig this album and consider as their comeback. But production was trash you are right.

The video never comes to mind when I hear this. I see a young boy bullied by older boys until he becomes stronger or a wife abused until she finds the strength to escape.
That's because you actually listen to the lyrics and correctly analyzed them. I have absolutely no idea what the director of this video was thinking... the song is about domestic violence, it has nothing to do with soldiers or war.
The friend this reminds me of, whom was lost before this was ever recorded, died in Iraq, not long after deployment, after enlisting due to 9/11. I didn't find out until years later. I wonder what he would have thought of this track. I think he'd have liked it.
This song has always spoken volumes to me, not only the lyrics but the video as well. I am a veteran from the war at home. I suffer from c-ptsd just like a real soldier and have faced terror in its face. Those words remind me of that feeling I had of never being able to be free being trapped by the enemy. I feel like a soldier from some kind of war the only thing missing was the weapons and the cami's. I relive the battles just the same, wake up with a start when those dreams hit hard. The way in the video shows how you do not know who your enemies are speaks loudly to my life. They may not be those you perceive as the enemy. Unfortunately they all are for me now. Just how can you trust anyone when the person you loved the most trusted the most gave yourself to betrays you and becomes the most profound enemy to your entire soul and spirit. How insidious it is to love someone you hate for the trauma they gave you. To miss sleeping beside your tormentor is mind bending at its core, knowing they beat the love right out of your heart for them. The enemy can be anyone at any time. Then after you meet a horrific one they forever taint you from believing in anyone for the rest of your life and wondering if everyone has misery in store for you! Over the years many of your songs speak to my soul of a life of wounds and battles and batteries, at least someone knows how to put deep harrowing heartfelt sorrow into words. Not to mention all that fantastic music you put alongside it serves up a truth and a power of emotions only some of us get to face this lifetime. Thanks for being the music of my broken spirit and soul!
As an Iraqi who lived his childhood and teenage times in Iraq . It's 2008 I was 14, and the war was at peak! Sitting in my room on my old school PC listening to this song that just came out (it was on a CD) with my old broken headphones , I remember this, my tears were pouring down after the first time I listened to this( i was a metallica fan). Being scared to death for me and my family, targeted for simply being a minority Christian we were living minute by minute at that time. Hearing bullets fly over our roof, rockets, explosions. Lost 2 friends that I still miss to this day. Every time I hear this song it is soo relatable, and gives me goosebumps and in way makes me feel bettre and brings my emotions out. I'm ok now living in another country down under with my family. Alot of people died from both sides for no reason. All the conflict in the world must stop now, love eachother, live in peace and be humble. Everyone reading this know that i love you all. My dream is to one day attend a Metallica concert this will mean the world to me. I hope my dream comes true. I Love you Metallica

@agameffendi6971 many fail to recognize that we Americans have lives, families and hurt for those who suffer. As an American citizen I say that the average citizen denounced war for profit and are being held captive by a corrupt system of government.
This song truly embodies the essence of Metallica - from its progressive structure and smooth transitions, to the double guitar harmonics and never-before-heard riffs. Beginning as a ballad and then transitioning into thrash metal, the epic solo and overall composition make it a standout track. It's a perfect example of the kind of music that made Metallica so iconic in their earlier years (first 4 albums). It's a shame that this style isn't as prevalent in their recent album (72 Seasons), as this song proves they still have it in them to create truly exceptional music.
Why is it that an 8-minute video can have a better story-line and better developed characters than the vast majority of Hollywood productions these days?
Metallica don't earn money directly off their videos, so instead of having to appeal to the lowest common denominator they're free to focus on their message.
People don't like because it's new. They think they're better because they're old school. I'm sure the next album will have the same rejection of the most part of the old school's. The real fans won't care if it's now, and if is good as the first song was(i still hope will be better) we gonna love it!
***** Wow, that was... weird. Keep your fantasies to yourself, moron. I didn't like a lot of Bob Rock's influence on their sound (especially at the end) but I will give the little Jon Bon Jovi Yuppy puke his due... Rock does know how to get a good sound mix. Black album was sound quality wise, still Metallica's best album, IMO. But what I really want...is FFS... sould they please remaster AJFA so the bass line doesn't just sound like bad distortion through the speakers? Rob plays some wicked bass on those tracks, live.
After listening to Metallica for the better part of my life, I've now realised that it is indeed like a drug, and I am a slave to it. It's like each successive album is a new hit of the drug, but each one isn't quite the same as the first. It's become a game of chasing that original high, which is now just a memory of how good it was, and feeling has never been the same since. Yet I still can't give it up, and I chase each hit in the hope that I find that original high.
This whole album is awesome it speaks so much to the older stuff. As much as us true Metallica fans loved Cliff, the man's dead. Rob is an awesome bassist and I think on this album and then Hardwired it shows.

ironically, i bought this album while i was in iraq. i didnt see the video till after i got back. by 2008, the leading cause of casualties in theater was from IEDs. A car stopped in the road like that is the last thing too many people saw before losing life or limb. its very hard to be trustful. its too easy to become either complacent or bitter. when youre memorizing your 9-line and praying dustoff gets there in the golden hour to save your friend, theres a LOT of emotion. im glad faith in humanity won out here, because it couldve quickly been another massacre. or ended with another fatality.
This is one of my favorite Metallica songs of ALL TIME and I've been listening to them for 28 years. This album and its follow-up deserve more credit than they've received. I'm glad my kid has gotten to hear and requests this album.

Fuck yeah \\m//
damn its already been a year. we’re still dealing with the plague
As a child I went through severe child abuse and this song let's me channel my reoccurring anger at this. In a way it gives me release. Thank you Metalica.
Child abuse is a hell of a lot closer to the lyrical meaning of the song than this video is, that's for sure.
ironically, i bought this album while i was in iraq. i didnt see the video till after i got back. by 2008, the leading cause of casualties in theater was from IEDs. A car stopped in the road like that is the last thing too many people saw before losing life or limb. its very hard to be trustful. its too easy to become either complacent or bitter. when youre memorizing your 9-line and praying dustoff gets there in the golden hour to save your friend, theres a LOT of emotion. im glad faith in humanity won out here, because it couldve quickly been another massacre. or ended with another fatality.
listening late at night while a thunderstorm rages on just feels right
Being a veteran as well, this vid hits home. The dusty heat, blurry sun, sandstorms...it brings it all back. Great song.
Mataste a muchos???.. .
Thank you for your service, sir.
One of their absolute BEST songs.
This is one of my favorite Metallica songs of ALL TIME and I've been listening to them for 28 years. This album and its follow-up deserve more credit than they've received. I'm glad my kid has gotten to hear and requests this album.

I just love the intensity in this song and video. To the Vets.... Thank you for your service, kindness and compassion when needed.
They've destroyed America's reputation. It's why so many of them commit suicide.
@@futureskeletons66669 This is why Americans should support our Veterans with better health and mental care. Most vets with PTSD are homeless. None of our Veterans should be homeless after putting their lives on the line so We can BE FREE COUNTRY!
They killed a lot of innocent women and children for oil. Thanks for service?
@@nicolausteslaus right? I was raised to be an anarchist and I could never kill anyone... Was put on the path of enlightenment at an early age and so thankful for that.
One of the best songs ever. They are the greatest
une des meilleure de mon album préféré💖💖💖💖🎸🎸🎸🎸
This song is a total masterpiece
One of the first songs I listened by Metallica. This song has a special place in my heart.

My first one was MASTER OF PUPPETS
Mine was for whom the bell tolls
Battery.
Disposable Heroes was my first. Who knew an underrated song can be someone's first :$
As a vet, when he starts to slide down as they are waiting on evac, I lost a few tears. Friends lost man, its not easy, but I love this song since day one and Metallica fan since I first heard them in 85 as a kiddo growin up then. 101st Air Assault, 2 tours Afghanistan.
The first time when i heard this music i had 26 years old, actually i have 34 years old,i had to pass for one surgery to take out two damned tummors of my brain,my days had been like one great war,the music had been my remedy, when i can hear and sing one music like this i can feel better,is very hard, its not easy, but is very good when i can hear and sing one music,is the moment where i can feel freedom of this hel...
Such a good song. Such a good video. Really embodies the experience of the troops at the time. Mix of aggression and compassion that is confusing and conflicting.
As a bastard, I met so many veterans in between this and the razor blade forests. This is why we salute people like this because somebody just had to happen to be there that day.
One of my fav Metallica songs
72 Seasons has me nostalgic about their older stuff, that I grew up on, and just still can't get over how AWESOME they are!! Rock on 💯🤘🤘🤟
When you stand up and feel the warmth, But the sunshine never comes... no the sun shine never comes
Lars: so how many riff you want in this song?

The best song of the album. Amazing!!!!!
Some of the first musics I heard were Metallica and Black Sabbath... That's one of the very few things in my life I'd never change.
Was born in 85... Grew up listening to 99.X and 96 Rock here in the atl...
Rock on world.
That solo has been melting my face off since 2008. Think "raiders of the lost ark" when they open the ark.
Hell yeah. Just frikin badass.
absolutely right to the edge. full speed at full power
Born to push you around
Better just stay down
You pull away
He hits the flesh
You hit the ground
Mouth so full of lies
Tend to block your eyes
Just keep them closed
Keep praying
Just keep awaiting
Waiting for the one
The day that never comes
When they stand up and feel the warmth
But the sunshine never comes, no
No, the sunshine never comes
Push you cross that line
Just stay down this time
Hide in yourself
Crawl in yourself
You'll have your time
God, I'll make them pay
Take it back one day
I'll end this day
I'll splatter color on this grave
Waiting for the one
The day that never comes
When they stand up and feel the warmth
But the sunshine never comes
Love is a four letter word
And never spoken here
Love is a four letter word
Here in this prison
I suffer this no longer
I'll put an end to
This I swear
This I swear
The sun will shine
This I swear
This I swear
This I swear
METALLICA .....SIEMPRE ALWAYS !!

damn i love this album
DEATH MAGNETIC !
CultGamerAlliance it needs to be remastered
Caitlyn Scott you mean metal on 😀
A commercial in the middle of the song is crazy
This is a F! masterpiece of all time and I had the pleasure of watching it on MTV, incredible.
I remember this song, i have 9 years old, today 14 years to this greatest hit, forever lives Metallica old school and new school !! 🤘🤘
I lost a friend in Iraq while i was there. I saw him burn to death in a vehicle after an IED took out his vehicle and cooked off all the rounds. He was buring to death and being shot by the rounds in the vehicle, his own vehicle. There was nothing we could do, and this song hits deep for me. I listened to Metallica the who time I was deployed, and it really helped me get through some tough times. Miss ya, buddy.
Thank you for your service and stay strong 💪🏼 for your loved ones
@@christian.xavier.villagran You never had any business to be there anyway. Sorry for his friend tho, life is life, no matter whoms.
I have decided this song will be played at my funeral. Best song ever still gives me all kind of emotions even after listening to this song hundreds of times - Thank you Metallica!
Are you guys going to upgrade all of the videos to your songs to HD?

K buen grupo...me encanta
The greatest ballad from them ever
this is one of the best songs of metallica
No Words ❤❤❤❤❤❤🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I live for that song 🖤 The guitar riff here is ah-mazing
so underrated! if this song was on Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning, people would say it's a legendary track
You can't use one intro on two tracks, so they choose "Fade to black" 😃
This wouldnt fit in either.
@@thus.spoke.zarathustra it actually does and many people ...myself included think its better then most of old school songs. This song is just old metallica which we all love.
Stormtrooper 2323 Lmfao at you believing that many people think this is better than old school Metallica.
@@thus.spoke.zarathustra yes and many agree with me. Its one of their best songs evee made. Metallica include it on their setlist even till today because of the popularity
