I do wonder if they have the longevity to them, there could be problems that crop up. If you think about the military situations, Russia hasn't really had much in the way of long term deployment nor action in a long time, while the US has been cutting its teeth for the last few decades here and there. The MRE's could be a reflection of that.
I saw a video where an MRE had a school lunch style piece of pizza in it, so they are working on making US MRE's better.
I do think they have focused a bit too much on longevity requirements though, which is why US MRE's just aren't as good in general. But I mean better safe than sorry, because if soldiers start getting sick from their food source, that's not good for war time...that could lose a war right there.
The US focus is mainly on packing in nutrition, food safety, and longevity. A good meal does boost morale though, so there are upsides and downsides. But I think it all just comes down to logistics and needs, Russia can afford to make better MRE's, because they're probably not making and using as many, and they're not fighting any wars super far away either. Most of their soldiers meals come from the mess.
I'd say where you're fighting also plays a role, along with water access. US was mostly fighting in arid places as of late. That could affect the types of MRE's used.

His videos are edited deceptively well so you cant even really notice, but he splits the ration up and eats each meal throughout the day. Youd make yourself sick eating a whole ration in one sitting since theyre packed with as many calories as possible since theyre for guys whove been on the move all day.

I was thinking that the mashed potatoes by themselves would be a little lacking. I think the soup would go great with them. And those three crackers left over from the 'breakfast' would go good with it to make a bigger dinner. I think after a day of recon/patrol I would kinda want to get the full belly before sleep.
You are a great evaluator of rations! Who else could get someone hungry and kinda craving a combat ration!

For a recon 24hr ration, it's pretty light on calories. I would think guys moving light and fast would need more to sustain that movement. Even the US FSR is 2,900 calories.

I always have a gallon or two of dehydrated potatoes in my pantry. I eat them all the time. They are so delicious when you add salt, pepper, garlic, onion, and a bit of milk or cream. YUMMY. Sometimes I will just make up a bowl of them at night just for a snack.

I also think it would be awesome if you coined the term "let's get this on a tray....nice" . My only request is that you make more videos more often I like to watch 2 or three in a row but it seems like forever in between post! But either way keep up the great work and look forward to the next video!

A tip for quick eating of packaged rations is tear open a small opening of the packet, pour bit of water in ration and shake. Saves you time to wash the mess tin and allows you to eat rapidly
