It's 6:06 AM in south Texas, I promised myself just one MRE video before I went to bed. Now here I am. I am now in my kitchen, 4 videos later, eating small college-style pizzas fashioned from tortillas, tomato paste with some water, garlic powder and salt, Mozzetta cheese, pieces of sliced turkey and chopped onion. Why Steve? Why do you videos make me so hungry, craving strange, specific things at ungodly hours of the night?
i started watching his videos a few months ago. i have always liked history and military stuff but didn't know anything about mre. this guy does an amazing job. his videos are relaxing , informative, filmed perfectly and he also has a great dry humor. top notch TH-camr.
0 interest in the army or mre's, closest i come to is playing battlefield one at the moment, i just love steve and his passion i hope he reads things like this
culinary consultant? He would just say everything tastes great. Not very helpful feedback. MRE Chef: "here is some dehydrated dog feces with corn for you to taste" Steve:"mmmm, oh my gosh, that is just great, mmmm delicious, you can really taste that corn, its really, just great, mmm"
Oh, also there is a rumour (that is actually can be rather true) that there is some amount of bromide in IRPs, so if you will be eating them for quite some time, your libido will singificantly decrease.
JLH CREATIONS Just like Ian of Forgotten Weapons they both seem so honestly passionate about a niche subject while always keeping their videos light hearted and fun!
I love seeing the ways Steve decides to go about preparing the rations and what order he chooses to eat everything. I probably would've gone with the mashed potatoes for breakfast, just for the energy to last throughout the day.
That's literally the best part of his videos haha. He's so enthusiastic about it too. Especially the old ones..."oh yeah. Mmm. Yeah that's rancid. Blechh" haha
I swear all this guys videos are so on point, even the intro and outro music have a nice retro 80’s touch to them. Giving you that feeling that youre in for an experience.
Man I love these videos especially when you try newer MREs and you add such a funny, informative twist to your videos I just wish you upload more often! Best MRE channel on TH-cam. Keep it up Steve !!
Eric Ellis well, I always considered them somewhat "overprocessed" and a bit too artificial, but never bad. Calories-wise they look pretty balanced, too.
I do wonder if they have the longevity to them, there could be problems that crop up. If you think about the military situations, Russia hasn't really had much in the way of long term deployment nor action in a long time, while the US has been cutting its teeth for the last few decades here and there. The MRE's could be a reflection of that. I saw a video where an MRE had a school lunch style piece of pizza in it, so they are working on making US MRE's better. I do think they have focused a bit too much on longevity requirements though, which is why US MRE's just aren't as good in general. But I mean better safe than sorry, because if soldiers start getting sick from their food source, that's not good for war time...that could lose a war right there. The US focus is mainly on packing in nutrition, food safety, and longevity. A good meal does boost morale though, so there are upsides and downsides. But I think it all just comes down to logistics and needs, Russia can afford to make better MRE's, because they're probably not making and using as many, and they're not fighting any wars super far away either. Most of their soldiers meals come from the mess. I'd say where you're fighting also plays a role, along with water access. US was mostly fighting in arid places as of late. That could affect the types of MRE's used.
Great post, Steve! You are a great host. I can seriously imagine you on mainstream TV. Your style is very engaging and your optimism incredibly infectious.
love the videos man... I can just imagine myself out in the field, hungry as hell, and preparing something like this which others might think of as bland or generic, but in the field in "less than idealic conditions" is like god coming down from heaven and blessing your taste-buds and warming your stomach

hey Steve just want to say your videos help me threw a lot of depression. They really do. And thanks you on and off I mres for the hell of it. I plan buying a view polish SRGs to take with me ice fishing this winter I'm up in Chicago. Also awhile ago I saw a pic of a rare J.M.S.F japanese special forces 24hour ration. Can't remember the color of it. But it looked awesome the Japanese military rations are some of the best out there. Oh I also plan on getting British 24 hour and a Danish army 24 hour ration.
