The apple jam looks similar to apple butter we can buy where I live. Its dark and not transparent. It always has cinnamon in it though so you don't get as much apple flavor as I would like, but great in the fall. I've had some transparent apple jelly and I LOVE that stuff.
Apple butter is fantastic and looks an awfully lot like that jam. Its available all over Indiana especially in the fall. Just got back from the Covered Bridge Festival in Bridgeton Indiana and they places selling hot biscuits with apple butter!

To the unfortunate, starving Soviet Red Army enlisted soldier of late 1941, 1942, and 1943, this Russian Army MRE would be a luxurious banquet. This MRE would seem like the rations of a Red Army general or Marshal. The typical Red Army soldier would be lucky to receive rations of, potatoes, black bread, boiled cabbage, kasha, and red beet soup, if at all.
If you still insists on using the fuel tabs please use them out side. The fumes can be very toxic, Esbit tabs are bad but less in mind where these are made! It is amazing how good the food is in the rations! The US could learn something possibly cut back on the amount of preservatives used in making our MRE's. But if. The preservatives are cut back the MRE will not last 10 to 15 years.
