Pia’s the best. She roasts Anna but does it in the nicest way. I’m pretty sure when Anna went nb5 Pia said it was “ambitious” and proceeded to explain for like 10 minutes how it was really not great
She seems to be the calmest person in the world, but once she commentates on chess it is like she is commentating on a horse race. And she is like 10 moves ahead of the game, inside of 10 seconds. A treasure!
I can vouch for the fact that Mr Winter is indeed a very nice person! (Hi Kevin 👋). He does need to remember to drink something during the game though ☕, especially at his age 👴!
Absolutely loving the Icelandic chess. Your attitude towards fighting chess is great to see. No cheap draws, never surrender, and “you think you can beat me, prove it” energy 👏
@@kingofmontechristo Its actually a pretty common word nowadays to describe your mood or attitude. Its a lot more weird that you don’t know this, been living under a rock or something?

Actually, that's some good advice for your opponent. I think he needs to take a short break from the board for a while because it seems like he's running himself down. I mean you can only be 100% focused for so long before fatigue kicks in. Hoping he doesn't kick himself too hard over this loss and does well in the end.
I literally saw Eric Rosen playing next to you and I was like: Yay Eric is there, but when you said that you two would play together in the next match, I went crazy. Good luck, you will need it.
You are good at keeping the suspense up to the end Anna. Glad you won that match, your opponent was indeed a serious contender. Good luck for the other rounds!
Wish we had Pia's commentary at the end on Twitch. She might have exploded with excitement though. What a great finish. Keep it up tomorrow (2AM here in Bellingham, Wa. USA). GO ANNA!
Is it only the brilliant Dina Belenkaya that's been winning? Anna and Alex not doing as well. I think Dina has the killer instinct and cool under pressure and higher rated. Anna and Alex seem to cope less with the pressure. Alex is to hard on herself and Anna. Proud as she is, must be hard living in your parents shadow. As Pia is a beast in a good way. Love her mum!
Don't feel bad, I have days where I'll play 78-93% accuracy in like 15 games, and then I'll have 1 game where I swear to god, I'll think "ok it was a bad game but I only probably had like 55% accuracy" and I'll run the analysis and the computer will go "you had a 34% accuracy." So I know EXACTLY what you mean about playing full of mistakes for no reason at all. Good luck tomorrow and in all your other games! I'm really enjoying this content both you and your mom are fantastic and right in your element.
@4:50 if your brain feels like a sponge it could be inflammation which could be caused by stress, and I recommend Ashwaganda root for that, and/or it could be just being really depleted, I'd eat salmon that is wild caught and fatty to get some omega 3 fatty acids to refuel that brain. Hope it helps!
Anna, it's just so crazy the way you transmit that energy of being there. I'm so happy to watch my two favorite masters playing against each other!! Good luck to both from Córdoba!! 🇦🇷
You're going to play against THE Eric Rosen? Well, good luck, that guy is not joke. He'll make you suffer, he'll deceive you, he'll lie. He'll pretend that he blundered his Queen, just to check mate you in the next move. Watch out for that Eric, kiddo.
Just found your page. Your approach is very refreshing. Allowing us to watch your losses as well as your wins and being completely transparent. You make it more human. Thank you.
The overall understanding I have gleaned from your Reykjavik reports is that Chess is not just a game of skill, study, planning, and evaluation, but as important are the emotions and attitudes/psychology. I'm starting to understand better why Bobby Fischer was able to gain advantages against his opponents before the matches began (as an example). And I am starting to understand how fascinating the "off the table" aspects of Chess can be. Thanks, Anna!
Anna, as a former tournament player. Anyone who plays constantly in tournaments gets used to the pressure and if they come prepared we are dangerous to people who are stronger but don't have the tournament play. There is no accounting for the pressure of match play. I peaked at a rating of 1724 in the early mid 90s but beat an expert and a master at the 1993 US Open because I was prepared and handled the pressure well. Won class a b prize.
Thanks for your reviews, Anna. Your games really improves my personal repertoire and knowledge of how to deal with some difficult positions, like this one in the video. I was 1000 a month ago and after your videos (and some literature with very patient analysis of Fischer's games lol) i skyrocketed to 1500. Good luck in your next games)
Anna, your analysis is not just fun to watch [your personality makes it so] but useful for we mere mortal chess players to see how to improve our games! Thanks.
I believe against d6, as a 2000+ player you should consider d4 and then e4, let them play a Pirc or a Modern (or a Philidor) and try to squeeze them with the classical lines (Nc3, Nf3, Be2, 0-0,(Bc4 against the Philidor), h3, a4), otherwise, you give your opponent an easier, more comfortable game, like what you saw in this game.
Even if you had to take his rook with yours in the end, after queen takes you have the same fork with your knight winning back the queen and winning a rook in the trade.
Never underestimate your opponent, especially when someone dropped in rating. After all even players like Magnus and Hikaru are currently below their peek rating.
I somehow got super invested in this series. Pia's commentary is so amazing and then seeing your thoughts afterwards. I think he did a lot of prep work for this game that's why he got such a good opening against you. You did amazing and Good luck against Eric tomorrow!
Another great recap! I think you're right: by you hanging in there and pressuring him with good ideas, he was bound to make a blunder of some kind that you could capitalize on. Congratulations!
What a brilliant video!!! Loved seeing a local British player facing a word famous steamer. Kevin you played a great game. Ana, your enthusiasm is infectious, a real credit to chess. Good luck in the rest of the tournament.

Very lucky game - and indeed the 1600 rating effect happened, a major blunder. But don't forget that you are a massive TH-cam personality which could be daunting to your opponents, and you are very charismatic and have a higher rating than he had - and all of it is being recorded, so he must have felt a lot of pressure. Well done on the win!
He played way above 1600 for most of the game. Such a weird line giving up your castling rights, but if it works, it works. Such a nifty way to play against higher rated opponents.

I watched the second half of the game and your comeback was incredible to watch, well deserved win! You could see he got really stressed out under the time pressure, but he played very well until that, especially if you consider his official rating.
Anna pardon the dumb question: Why do they have you write every move down? With modern electronic chess boards/chess matts, why do they still require paper and pencil?
I'm glad you were able to win this game Anna! You were a little bit foggy the first half of the game but then you got your act together figured out how to win. I'm glad you didn't take a draw. I kind of figured he is only rated 1600 and you are very much higher. Best of luck tomorrow! I look forward to watching the game between you and Eric Rosen! Consult with your mom to be ready to play him! Love you Anna!
I absolutely share with you the same thought about not offering a draw, as you said chess is a funny game, when someone is doing good, the best thing to do is to continue and let him win if he really deserves it or do your best to get a draw or maybe a win.
