12 year-old Chloë Grace Moretz absolutely ruled this film. She stole every scene she was in. Ironically, her parents didn’t let her see the finished product because of her age. Nicholas Cage using Adam West’s Batman performance as a template for Big Daddy is just gold. Lyndsey Fonseca would go on to star in the Nikita series as an assassin, Alex Udinov, partnering with Maggie Q. She would also be a recurring character in Agent Carter.
Chloë Grace Moretz was amazing in this role, especially for such a young actress at the time. She and Nicolas Cage definitely made this movie for me. Also, Nicolas Cage is mimicking Adam West's version of Batman with his line deliveries here.
@Cadinho93 Actually she was already a very experienced actress at the time. Kick-A ss is her 17th movie, and on top of that she had also aready starred in a TV movie, 15 episodes of various shows and voiced a main role in My Friends Tigger & Pooh before starring in this movie. That's more appearances than some actors/actresses have during their entire careers.
After being rejected by every studio they approached, Matthew Vaughn raised the budget at a dinner party and made the movie independently. Vaughn ultimately sold the movie to Universal for more than he had originally asked them for.
Moretz's age and language in this film caused some controversy at the time, and the best response came from Moretz herself. I remember her 13 years old on talk shows explaining "it's a CHARACTER in a MOVIE" and if she ever talked like that normally she'd be "grounded for life".
2 Quicksilvers, an Adam West Batman parody, and Hit-Girl. Everyone nailed their performances but young Chloë Grace Moretz might have been the show favorite. Having the Banana Split song play during the first Hit-Girl fight scene was the perfect song choice for this movie.
I'm in my late "60s, so I'm guessing not many knew the banana splits song... I did of course, and it was the perfect music for that kinetic fight sequence.
Barely flinching at the ultra-violence, coming up with the Superbad-meets-Kill-Bill comparison, recognising the two actors that played Quicksilver, dropping a couple of A-bombs… Cassie’s come a long way, baby!
When I saw this, I thought ‘it’s pretty violent, I don’t think she’ll be into it.’ To see her laughing at the cartoon violence made me realize that she really gets it now. I’m actually kinda proud of her, lol.
I really love watching movies with you and when you team up with your sister. It makes me feel like I did when I was a teenager sitting with 4 or 5 or my little brother and sisters. At the time it was fun and wholesome but just seemed like just another movie time at home. Watching with you and with Carly takes me back in a surreal way that reminds me how truly important those moments were. Thanks Casey.
The "A few Dollars More" (edited due to accurate correction) music playing when Mindy (Chloe) acts like a little girl lost is epic lol. Reminded me of something from a Terentino film
I have to agree with JC. Sin City just isn't good enough for the violence to be worth it. The only reason to watch it is the style, but Cassie has already seen 300 and Kill Bill. That's all she really needs.
Matthew Vaughn also directed Stardust and X-Men First Class. He also produced the first 2 Guy Ritchie movies Snatch, and Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels. As a director, he started with Layer Cake and also did the Kingsman franchise.
I KNEW you would freak out once you realized it was Aaron Taylor Johnson! It's such a quirky movie, but I love it. The scene where Red Mist and Kick Ass are geeking out in the car together is the best - It's like the first time Red Mist ever had a friend. Chloe is AMAZING and Nic Cage doing an homage to Adam West's Batman *chef's kiss* So many little references and spoof moments, especially with the comic book/Kill Bill level of violence. But surprisingly heartwarming too! Glad you took a chance 😊
Chris's line at the end, "As a great man once said, wait'll they get a load of me!" is a reference to the 1989 Tim Burton Batman movie, starring Micahel Keaton and Jack Nicholson.
I’m a woman who loves her Jane Austen romances and North and South with Richard Armitage. And I LOVE that you loved one of my all time favourite movies, Kick Ass! Also your patrons better vote for Sin City one day. It’s very stylised visually, very dark story. I think you’re ready for it, and appreciate the emotional beats between the violence.
The thing about this move is Hit Girl would be horrifying if they played it straight. Indeed, this is why Ebert didn't like the movie. But because it's played ridiculously over the top for laughs, it works.
I wrote a book, in 2010, that Chloe Moretz inspired, because of her performance in this movie. I thought, "She would make a great vampire." and I wrote my main character, with her in mind. I was right about her making a good vampire too, because the same year my book finally was published, she starred in a vampire movie. LOL
Wish Mathew Vaughn followed X-Men First Class with a proper sequel, some of the cast were killed off screen. Quickly becoming Professor X, Magneto & Mystique's franchise. A proper sequel before Days of Future's Past. Maybe he can do an indy comic, Disney or Warner would probably interfere if he worked on a Marvel or DC project. A Bond set in the 60s with more gadgets, absurd violence & his humor would be a great contrast to the realistic somber take of the Daniel Craig Bond Era. That was my 2 cents. 🍻
-Would you do anything differently? -I would! Would´ve fallen out the window! Believe or not, they toned down a lot from the comic. It get's very graphic and VERY ultra-violent, which at 14/15 years old I was totally into! Though there's a downright unpleasant and uncomfortable moment in sequel 😬Was so relieved when they left that part out of the movie, besides it would have been completely out of nowhere for the tone they were going for. I can remember reading them in my teens in a comics corner of a media store, constantly looking over my shoulder the entire time, because I definitely shouldn't have been reading 'em😂
I love this movie so much! gets better every time. The strobe scene always gets to an emotional place. But Dexter Fletcher is always babyface from Bugsy Malone.
The purpose of the original comic was to mock superhero comic fans. Dave is emasculated in every way Mark Millar could think of, and having a girl half his age be better at his dream than him is just another one of them.
@@Pink.andahalf The character is like that to portray real teenagers who decide to become heroes. Everything kick-ass does is what you would do, he gets better as the series goes on but he's not superman.

it's amazing how similar and different this movie is to the comic. like what it changed it changed a lot, but it didn't do that to much
It must be nice to be able to pick up your phone and a few minutes later have a bowl of popcorn magically appear in your hand. That's power.
Gotta take care of the talent
That hallway scene with Hit Girl, with the song choice and choreography, is still one of my favorite comic action scenes to this day!
"Oh this is like Goldeneye...." "Oh my god! That's Arron Taylor-Johnson. He's very hot now." 🤣
Cassie: "Hey! That's Quicksilver".
The fun part is that both the main character and his friend played Quicksilver. One played it in the MCU (Pietro Maximoff) and the other in X-Men (Peter Maximoff).
The real hero is popcorn delivery.
The music they played when Hit Girl was in action was my favorite part of the movie!!!
The freak out when she realized it was Aaron Taylor Johnson 😂
You need to watch Equilibrium if you liked the fighting here ❤
This is one of my all time favorite movies, saw it 5 times in theaters! So glad you dug it!
I hope you girls get to Crocodile Dundee 2 soon. And feel free to stop at that one. Jmho.
Another amazing Aaron Taylor-Johnson film is 'Nocturnal Animals (2016)' starring Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal. Like the film from the same year 'Manchester By the Sea (2016) it's a film everyone needs to see. But it'll never win a poll on channels like this, unfortunately, unless they choose to see/react to it sans a poll.
Mathew Vaugh Directed Stardust believe it or not.
Is Cassie ready for Watchmen (2009)?
OMG definitely! I hope she does watch the Watchmen!
@@white-noisemaker9554I would watch her watch The Watchmen.
No matter what people say, this is one of my favorite superhero movies.
A bit of the old ultraviolence....
I love this movie so much! gets better every time. The strobe scene always gets to an emotional place. But Dexter Fletcher is always babyface from Bugsy Malone.
Fun fact, there is a Claudia Schiffer giant photo in the scene where Bigdaddy snipes Razul's bodyguard, because she is the director's wife.
"Okey-dokey..."
Had me rolling haha. Reminds me of how my mom would react to things before I introduced her to all the good movies and shows :P
Hit girl kicked more butt than the title character!
The music playing when Hit Girl wrecked shop at Rasoul's place, was a punk rock cover of the "Banana Splits" theme. "The Banana Splits Show" was a kid's programin the 70's, that involved 4 actors in huge, goofy animal costumes. They would do comedy skits and show a variety of cartoons.
Great, Sin City next! I prefer any superhero movie outside of marvel or dc
Do you realize that Kick-Ass is published by Marvel?
@@bigdream_dreambig yeah i know marv is a subdivision, but it is not a 'marvel superhero movie'.. you know what i mean
@@gingerbaker_toad696 I actually _don't_ know what you mean, unless you mean it's not part of the "Marvel Cinematic Universe"? But neither is, say, Blade, and yet it'd be just as wrong to say Blade is "outside of Marvel."
@@bigdream_dreambig partly for those kinds of conversations i am not a comic nerd...
I like it because it is not like any other boring superhero stuff for little children.
My uncle showed me this when I was young and I love big daddy as a “super hero” and love Batman. it’s so underrated as a superhero film like Hancock
