The music used in the warehouse fight scene with Big Daddy is called "In the house - in a heartbeat", by John Murphy. It was written for the movie "28 days later" (Another movie worth watching).
Also in the Hit Girl POV scene, they use another John Murphy song, from another Danny Boyle film called Sunshine. The song is "Surface of the Sun" which I believe is a variation of a classical piece called "Adagio in G Minor".
It's such an incredible piece of music, in any setting. But in my humble opinion its place in this superhero movie dulls its effect a bit, after being so powerfully used during a certain scene in 28 Days Later.
"Kick Ass 2" is worth checking out. Mindy/Hit Girl becomes more of a co-star getting more screen time and character development. Jim Cary later decried his involvement with the movie over concerns that on screen violence might inspire real life violence, but his performance as Col. Stars & Stripes is very good. I think you'll also enjoy the expanded cast of heroes and villains.
Kick Ass 2 is a pile of shit. And I'm not the picky type, I usually love sequels that everyone hates. I thought the Matrix 2 was very good and the third one was...OK, not fantastic but tolerable. And the Animatrix was awesome. Kick Ass 2? Absolutely not.

Glad you enjoyed this classic Jen. If you are interested in watching Kick-ass 2, it's worth mentioning that it has a different director, who kind of tries to emulate Vaughn's style, but doesn't really hit the mark. The new director also goes for a much more faithful adaption of the Kick-ass 2 comic (faithful to a fault seems to be the general opinion), whereas Matthew Vaughn's Kick-ass, and the source comic diverge pretty heavily- to the point that one could argue that the core message at the heart of comic book, and the philosophy of the film adaptation end up in opposition of one another. I know some fans weren't happy about the changes, but I personally feel that they ultimately made for a more satisfying film overall. I've tried to give Kick-ass 2 several chances, but everytime, I'm let down unfortunately
I discovered Jen about ten days ago when Star Trek reacts popped up in ye old recommended feed. In the following days, I have had so many memories of my seven years in high school band/marching band flood back. Events I hadn't thought of in the better part of two decades. How much fun music can be. How fulfilling it is being part of making music in unison with more than 100 other people. The feeling of oneness and teamwork that comes with having so many individuals on the same page - pulling in the same direction. Her joy in shouting out various instruments, as well as bopping along with soundtracks in general is downright infectious! Thank you Jen for dredging up these good recollections. High school was not fun for me, but band was.
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned the fact that both Quicksilvers are in this. X-Men and MCU. And all my youngest daughters life I’ve tried to have her be Hit Girl and I’d be Big Daddy for Halloween. Never happened.
Kick ass 2 does not disappoint, it is a perfect continuation of the story, and is just as over the top and outrageous, it is a must see if you liked the first.
@@CarefulWithThatAx Apparently a lot of work went into filming everything to reduce motion sickness as much as possible. They built a custom stabilisation rig that put the camera in front of the mouth for example. Unfortunate that it wasn't effective for everyone.
The comics are so good too! The movie is very much like the comics, with certain differences here and there. But Chloe Grace Moretz absolutely nailed it as Mindy / Hit-Girl. I cant imagine anyone else playing that role.
The soundtrack & score to this entire film is amazing. I love it. Esp the score at the warehouse during Big Daddy's attack & the score during the "live execution" scene with Hit Girl. 🥰🥰
Which honestly made more sense than the movie, however the Big Daddy & Hit Girl origin story is way better than the comics. There's quite a few tradeoffs between the original comic and the movie some made sense and some didn't.
Hit-Girl seems pretty happy, whether her childhood was normal or not. I'm not saying that what her father did was right, and she sure wasn't happy after he was killed, but before that, she sure didn't seem to be suffering or depressed. She liked what she could do and sometimes did.
I vividly remember seeing this in the theater and the entire audience was won over by Hit Girl. To say she stole every scene that she was in was an understatement. Also, Big Daddy’s death was iconic.
Chloe Moretz as hit girl steals this movie! Somehow I can see you enjoy the heck out of this one! Thanks Jen! Chloe's Parents would not let her watch the finished film for a while due to her youth!
I watched the movie when it came out and didn't know anything about it. I absolutely didn't know what to expect and the reaction of the audience in the theater was hilarious😂 Jen, your reaction was awesome and this movie is even more fun watching it with you!❤ Can't wait for Part 2
16:29 Nope, Nick Cage was never supposed to play Batman, but he WAS supposed to play Superman in the Tim Burton Batman universe and Michael Keaton would have guest starred as Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Really good movie, and it holds up so well even today, after watching so many superhero movies. The sequel isn't as good, but I still enjoyed watching it.
Should have known that tactical Jen was going to love the heck out of this movie. Lot's of stuff going boom and yes Hit Girl is all that and then some.
After the encounter in the apartment Hit Girl jumps the gap to meet BD under a billboard with a perfume ad. No real company would associate their name with this movie, and the model in that ad was Claudia Schiffer, Matthew Vaughn's wife.
They shot this movie in my hometown of Hamilton, the high school that was used was my high school Sir Winston Churchill. Me and my brother got to be extras in this movie. My little brother is the goth looking kid on the bike in the beginning and close to the end scene and in the cafeteria scene. I’m barely visible in the cafeteria scene but I’m very visible in a deleted scene, I got to meet Evan Peters he was very chill and talking to a lot of the extras. I didn’t get a chance to meet any of the other actors as they seemed very busy.
Chloe Grace Moretz was 12 when they were filming the movie, and 13 when it released (the character is 11 at the start of the comics this is based on), and IIRC her mother in particular wasn't very happy that she was running around saying "cunt" on screen at 12 lol. And yes, 'that guy' was in the X-Men movies as Quicksilver. Kick-Ass played Quicksilver in the MCU.
Big Daddy's mask reminds me a bit of the mask worn by the Phantom in the 1974 movie "Phantom of the Paradise". Paul Williams plays a record producer named Swan, and he also wrote all the music for the film. It is a very interesting mix of campy horror, musical, comedy and drama. Well worth a look see.
I last saw Chloe Moretz in 2020's "Shadow in the Cloud" which has a scene where she falls from a flying B-17 bomber in WW2, but a flaming Japanese plane beneath her blows up, and explosion launches her back up into the bomber saving her life. It's pretty ridiculous, but she's great.
The reason Big Daddy is talking like that is because he’s mimicking how the original Batman spoke in the 1960s TV series. It’s very campy and I think you’d love it.
Nic Cage was actually supposed to play _Superman_ and Kevin Smith was supposed to write the script for a while. If you ever watch Kevin Smith talking about that experience please make sure you've watched "Wild Wild West" with Will Smith first, another film produced by the same producer. And Hit Girl's rampage through the hallway? Oh GOD that was amazing in the theater. We were laughing in _shock_ at how _awesome_ it was. That's like, you know, the daughter of John Wick and XENA there.
It just dawned on me what the key to Jen's cinematic heart is: gratuitous violence (with style)! But it will be hard to top Kick Ass... 😄 I remember that when the movie came out there was hand-wringing over 13-year old Chloë Grace Moretz playing in such a violent R-rated movie. Echoes of 14-year old Linda Blair in The Exorcist.
At the time, that's exactly what a long-range jet pack cost. The one that was (or still is?) available was based on a miniature jet engine, though, for extended range, speed, and flight time.
You commented on how they referenced the comic book movies, like how Big Daddy looked just like batman, another reference you missed is the way Nicolas Cage delivered his lines, it was an exaggerated form of the way Adam West spoke in the Batman TV series.
Someone in the comments said you can't shoot hard body armor more than once saying that the plate shatters after the first shot, but Smyth Busters have a video exposing that as a myth that's based on the performance of earlier ballistic armor, and many other TH-camrs have demonstrated modern body armor with metal plates, ceramic plates, or composite plates stopping multiple shots from the firearms more powerful than those used by the villains in "Kick Ass."
that perfect timing with you...just made me think of Crocodile Dundee, "That is not a knife...THAT'S A KNIFE...just kids having fun" it works so perfectly with what you did even though you did it unintentionally "that's a big knife...WOAH! OH OH OH...oh it's the kid" I can't believe I am the first to see the similarity in this reaction
The movie deviates in two major ways from the comics, which changes the tone when you get to the end. For one, Big Daddy's backstory in the comic is a lie, which he uses as an excuse to act as a superhero. He has a briefcase with him all the time, which he's very protective of. Turns out, it's full of expensive comics, which he's been selling to fund his and Hit-Girl's weaponry. It should be noted: at the end of the first comic series, Hit-Girl goes to live with her mom, who she didn't know was alive and well this whole time. The other big change is when the main character reveals his secret identity and that he's not gay--she kicks him out and hates him because he lied to her, sending him photos of her having sex with other guys, because she knows he'd hate to see it. Also, the finale action scene is definitely different from the comics, but I can't remember how the story ends in the source material. At least it's still noticeably an actual adaptation of the comic, though, unlike the movie Wanted (same comic writer), which may as well not even be tied to the comic it's based on.
THat moretz scene where she murders those fools in the apartment is amazing. Holy fuck. Especially that moment when she bounds forward and kicks the dude into the wall. So good.
The one thing I wish they had added to the movie from the comic, when hit-girl and kick-ass go to the penthouse, hit-girl pulls out a vial her dad gave her of 'superhero formula'. It's cocaine, and hit-girl proceeds to kill everyone while coked out of her mind.
Little known fact, the gangster crushed in the yellow Range Rover was a reference to another Matthew Vaughn movie Layer Cake, which was also Daniel Craig's unofficial audition for James Bond, another movie worth watching.
One of the most epic pieces of music ever IMO, 'Adagio For Sunshine' by John Murphy is the music playing as Big Daddy dies, and as Kickass flies Hitgirl to safety on the jetpack. It absolutely rules. If you haven't seen the movie it was originally written for, 'Sunshine' with Cillian Murphy and TONS of other top-notch people, absolutley check it out. It's a sci-fi movie about an attempt to save Earth from a dying Sun.
The comedy of this movie is that the main actor, Aaron Taylor Johnson, ended up playing Quicksilver in Age of Ultron. His friend was played by Evan Peters who ended up playing Quicksilver in X-Men films. That said, there are few other actors in this who had either been in or would be in other superhero movies. Mark Strong (Green Lantern & Shazam), Nick Cage (Ghost Rider), & Jason Flemyng (X-Men first class & Deadpool and Wolverine).
The movie actually softens a lot of things from the original comic (spoilers below): In the comic, Big Daddy's backstory turns out to be a total lie and he was just an accountant who wanted a more exciting life and raised his daughter with a fake story about him trying to avenge his wife In the movie, Red Mist is introduced early on and it's shown from the start that he is infiltrating the hero side; it also takes time to build sympathy for him and his relationship with his father. In the comic, he just appears midway through the story and him being a traitor is a big surprise
I feel like all the changes are for the better. There is one other change I remember hearing about: . . . . . . . . . Katie apparently becomes a real piece of work in the comic books, but I love having the reactions of her and Marcus to the "Unmasking" scene as it just adds so much tension knowing those are the only people who know who is really there (in contrast to the people watching random people)
Dexter Fletcher (guy crushed in car), Mark Strong..both British..hence being the bad guys.....Also Dexter was in (Band of Brothers)...He played Sgt. Martin.
KA2 os a great sequel. Also, if you like thr POV action sequence, you should watch the movie "Doom". There is a POV action sequence based on the video game of the same name. The game that got me into FPS games before I became a top player in Quake during the mid to late 90s when I was in college.
Welcome Home, Jen💙and I Love Your Shirt: I've been on "Team Captain America" since LONG before there ever was an MCU!👍I'm here for ALL of Your Laughs today...😂
The scene where big daddy is burning always gets me.. i never understand why most laugh when he's screaming, it brings a tear to my eye to hear the hero and loving father figure of the movie in such immense pain. i for one always took that scene seriously, i mean he's burning alive.. it's not meant to be an honorable and theatric death to witness. instead, very grounding and gruesome.. which is in theme with the tone of the entire movie. point being, those screams were very realistic and fitting imo.
I honestly taught my 11 years younger sister the same way, back in 2000. Not so much weapons, but self-defense and combat reflex actions. .... Welll .....Actually....I started with that, then she used it on our mother. Then I had to teach her discipline/self-restraint as well. She was ~9 years old when I started. She was feared on the playground. I had to teach that girl so much temperance. I thought she was a nerd, I did not know she was really a tom-boy..... ugh. She married a marine who could barely keep up with her. I have stories if you wish to hear, about some of the training. Some humorous, some with me with my head in my hand.
My mom had you beat. Back when I was around 8 or so she decided I needed to learn how to fight and since she was a single mom she decided to get (a slightly unstable) Vietnam vet green Barret she had dated to teach me to fight. He taught me hand to hand the way he had been taught. Everything was based on the idea that there is no such thing as a fair fight and you take down the enemy as hard and as fast as humanly possible. I spent years trying to talk people out of starting a fight with me cause I was legit scared I would accidentally put them in the hospital.

The music used in the warehouse fight scene with Big Daddy is called "In the house - in a heartbeat", by John Murphy.
It was written for the movie "28 days later" (Another movie worth watching).
@@simonoleary9264 i thought it sounded familiar! Matt knows what to pull from British greats like Danny and Guy.
After this moie, I could no longer hear the song "Crazy' without an image of Kick Ass and Red Mist grooving to it in the car.
Agree 100%. I don't get why so many fans of the first hate the second. I thought it was every bit as much fun.
This is Chloë Grace Moretz’s best role. She carries this movie and the 2nd one.
I didn't realize til today that Kick-Ass is Aaron Taylor Johnson, AKA Quicksilver from the MCU. The glasses must have had a real Clark Kent effect on me.
And his friend Todd is AKA Quicksilver from X-men
@@lodrbyroniClark Duke or the other kid?
@@RandomNonsense1985 Evan Peters.
@@lodrbyroni Yeah, I knew Evan Peters, but it never clicked for me that Kick-Ass and Pietro are the same guy. And I guess he's Kraven now, too. yeesh, give it a rest, Sony.
He‘s also Tangerine in Bullet Train, which always blows my mind
“Nobody makes me bleed my own blood… NOBODY!” 😂
10:25 This is an _unavoidable_ part of being a superhero. Batman doesn't have _powers,_ but he's in _shape._ He's a _world-class Olympian._
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned the fact that both Quicksilvers are in this. X-Men and MCU.
And all my youngest daughters life I’ve tried to have her be Hit Girl and I’d be Big Daddy for Halloween.
Never happened.
Great Adam West/Batman delivery from Cage! By the way, I love the way Miss Jen subtly inserts her whispered "subscribe"! 😁
Kick ass 2 does not disappoint, it is a perfect continuation of the story, and is just as over the top and outrageous, it is a must see if you liked the first.
When you said nobody makes me bleed my own blood i lost it😂😂😂. Great dodgeball quote!!😂
There's also another movie filmed entirely with a GoPro called Hardcore Henry where you are the hitman/assassin character.
It's on Jen's movie request list so maybe one day 👍
I don't get motion sick, but I almost had to leave that movie.
In the comics, Dave doesn't get the girl. Katie rejects him after telling her the truth.
Why wouldn't they let her watch it if they let her film it? Especially since her character is a big reason why it's rated R?
She always said her parents said, NO! I'm with you ... I always thought it was crazy!
Pretty sure Cage was parodying Adam West with that stilted speech pattern, though exaggerated. Arguably the most beloved Batman ever.
"He's really beating the crap out of that kid!"
That child just murdered 75 grown men.
Really good movie, and it holds up so well even today, after watching so many superhero movies.
The sequel isn't as good, but I still enjoyed watching it.
Omg. I'm about to subscribe definitely part 2 annns definitely for Scott Pilgrim vs the World
Should have known that tactical Jen was going to love the heck out of this movie.
Both Quicksilvers in the mcu and in fox universe are in this movie.
Yes, Super Jen, definitely watch Adam West " Batman" from 1966
Chloe Grace Moretz was 12 when they were filming the movie, and 13 when it released (the character is 11 at the start of the comics this is based on), and IIRC her mother in particular wasn't very happy that she was running around saying "cunt" on screen at 12 lol.
0:53 Aww...you're not invisible to girls. You're the guy they think is a creeper. Kind of makes being 'invisible' the more preferred scenario.
And considering I was that guy too yeah it hurts 😅
"Now go, to Robin's Revengeeee"
😢😢😢
40:44 yes you should watch the sequel
John Wick and Xena? Damn well put 😂
One thing's for sure, Matthew Vaughn knows how to film action scenes, as further evidenced by the Kingsman films.
Someone in the comments said you can't shoot hard body armor more than once saying that the plate shatters after the first shot, but Smyth Busters have a video exposing that as a myth that's based on the performance of earlier ballistic armor, and many other TH-camrs have demonstrated modern body armor with metal plates, ceramic plates, or composite plates stopping multiple shots from the firearms more powerful than those used by the villains in "Kick Ass."
that perfect timing with you...just made me think of Crocodile Dundee, "That is not a knife...THAT'S A KNIFE...just kids having fun"
it works so perfectly with what you did even though you did it unintentionally "that's a big knife...WOAH! OH OH OH...oh it's the kid"
I can't believe I am the first to see the similarity in this reaction
Last line 'Wait until they get a load of me" was from the Joker (Jack Nicholson) from Batman 1989.
Batman 1989 is on Jen's channel
THat moretz scene where she murders those fools in the apartment is amazing. Holy fuck. Especially that moment when she bounds forward and kicks the dude into the wall. So good.
Super terrific reaction, I love Kick Ass!!! Yes, I'll definitely watch part 2. Now for Jens' superhero name. "The purple ponytail."
“Wait until they get a load of me” was a line from the 1989 movie Batman directed by Tim Burton.
Yes batman 1989 is on jens channel
The one thing I wish they had added to the movie from the comic, when hit-girl and kick-ass go to the penthouse, hit-girl pulls out a vial her dad gave her of 'superhero formula'. It's cocaine, and hit-girl proceeds to kill everyone while coked out of her mind.
7:25 Love the "Gonna hafta build that in Sims!"
@@ScratchJoe Right? That'd be an awesome walk through.
The movie actually softens a lot of things from the original comic (spoilers below):
In the comic, Big Daddy's backstory turns out to be a total lie and he was just an accountant who wanted a more exciting life and raised his daughter with a fake story about him trying to avenge his wife
In the movie, Red Mist is introduced early on and it's shown from the start that he is infiltrating the hero side; it also takes time to build sympathy for him and his relationship with his father. In the comic, he just appears midway through the story and him being a traitor is a big surprise
I feel like all the changes are for the better. There is one other change I remember hearing about:
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Katie apparently becomes a real piece of work in the comic books, but I love having the reactions of her and Marcus to the "Unmasking" scene as it just adds so much tension knowing those are the only people who know who is really there (in contrast to the people watching random people)
@@neilbiggs1353 Yeah, Mark Millar even approved of the Big Daddy change, saying the movie wouldn't have worked with the comic version of his story.
The sequel is good too. Different, but not too different.
Love this movie. The 2nd one is fun.
YES! Please watch Scott Pilgrim vs The World! It's a fantastic movie! It's so much fun!
I listened to the soundtrack album for this movie so much
Dexter Fletcher (guy crushed in car), Mark Strong..both British..hence being the bad guys.....Also Dexter was in (Band of Brothers)...He played Sgt. Martin.
KA2 os a great sequel.
Also, if you like thr POV action sequence, you should watch the movie "Doom". There is a POV action sequence based on the video game of the same name. The game that got me into FPS games before I became a top player in Quake during the mid to late 90s when I was in college.

17:31 Nick Cage is doing a hilarious Adam West as Batman impersonation.
The scene where big daddy is burning always gets me.. i never understand why most laugh when he's screaming, it brings a tear to my eye to hear the hero and loving father figure of the movie in such immense pain. i for one always took that scene seriously, i mean he's burning alive.. it's not meant to be an honorable and theatric death to witness. instead, very grounding and gruesome.. which is in theme with the tone of the entire movie. point being, those screams were very realistic and fitting imo.
the highschool was my highschool, sir winston churchill in hamilton canada
I spent years trying to talk people out of starting a fight with me cause I was legit scared I would accidentally put them in the hospital.

you already got to see what the original comic looks like -- the big daddy / hit-girl origin sequence was drawn in the original style by the original artist john romita jr
Chloe was the star of this film, hands down. She trained and trained to be able to do the butterfly knife scenes, and used to whip them out on TV shows to impress the hosts. It is crazy to think that she actually had me believing a little kid could kick the crap out of grown ass men and be such a fantastic badass. One of my favorite characters of all time.
