The sequel is very good but the last film is pretty bad. Of course she should still watch them all and I’m sure she will. She’s the best and most thoughtful reactor on TH-cam, I can’t imagine she’d only do the first film.

She’s also the hairy bush nun in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Apparently, Carrie loved acting, but as anything but referencing StarWars.
@@johnnybraccia452 She cameoed in Scream 3, poking fun at her iconic role, despite being a completely non related character in that film. And I know it’s not technically “acting” within the definition of, although Fisher did appear in person on a SW themed episode of Deal or No Deal.
Even sharing a hug with the contestant participating. Her final movie, which was delayed from release by the pandemic is set to release soon. I forgot the name at the moment, it’s a fantasy setting where she plays a witch. Didn’t even know it existed until a trailer was recommended to me on the Home Page here.
She was also fun in The Man With One Red Shoe, which I liked, but didn't makes much of a splash

When this film came out it absolutely was ingrained into popular culture, so often quoted, and triggered countless quotes and impressions by so many of us.
This was a real passion project for Myers and the fact that it was so popular is the reason why we were then treated to two more films that followed.

I remember it kind of going unnoticed until it came out on video. That's when all my friends at work were talking about it and quoting it and having watch parties. It was like what happened with Shawshank Redemption a few years before that.

"That's not a woman. That's a man, man." paired with the incredibly obvious switch to a different actor is hysterical. And the pay off Austin punching Basil's mom thinking she's a man is absurdly hilarious! I forgot how much fun this movie is. Absolutely love it. 🤣🤣🤣

Austin Powers isn’t just parodying / influenced by James Bond but also by other notable spy & detective movies & shows of the 60’s and 70’s such as Jason King or the Our Man Flint films, Michael Caine spy films etc as well as the general music, culture, fashion & British comedy of the 60’s. Musically inspired by The Beatles; The Monkeys ; Burt Bacharach and the comedy of Monty Python, Benny Hill and Peter Cook & the Carry On film series to name a few. So it’s not just James Bond.
I'd chuck the Avengers (60's Tv series not Marvel) and of course Danger Man onto your list (which I also quite agree with) as quite big inspirations. There's a surprising number of references and clever parodies in this than a first viewing tends to reveal.

I've always thought "Random Task" was low key the best gag in the trilogy. It's well worth watching the others, even at their weakest they're still lots of fun!
Basil Exposition is pretty good... I've seen this movie dozens of times and only TODAY got the joke (Basil is setting the stage at times, or providing "Exposition."). Hilarious!

If only the actor wasn't a murderer/serial rapist in real life, Random Task could easily be a fan favorite. Joe Son was convicted of Murder, Rape, Torture during the same rape, sodomy during the same Rape and Possession of a firearm during the same rape in 2011. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He was also involved in another gang rape in 1990, 7 years before the film was even made and released. The worst part was how he pistol-whipped the poor dear while threatening to kill her repeatedly. Joe Son is a really messed up individual.

A great, memorable character indeed. A pity that the real life actor who played him was such a horrible person who ended up in prison.
So funny seeing Carrie Fisher as the Therapist. Also, as much of a sex pest as Austin presents himself as - XD - I will always remember the line when he's talking to Vanessa in the hotel room and he turns her down for being too drunk to make rational choices. Considering this movie was on the playlist of every 90s kid's sleepovers, was a subtle but nice message in a comedy movie considering teens and kids were bingeing it.
That one little moment is what turns Austin Powers from an absolute creep to a lovable pervert, tbh.

The scene where Austin gets the vehicle stuck in the hallway trying to turn around is single handedly the funniest thing in the movie, hands down, for me. I don't even know why, but I die every time.

I knew nothing about any Austin Powers movie before it came out. Hadn't heard anything about, hadn't read about, hadn't seen anything at all.
I walk into the theater late to see another movie and see the trailers are starting. I look up at the screen and saw Austin maneuvering the vehicle in the hallway. That was it. I think it was just a five second clip after they do the credits or coming soon caption, right after the main trailer. It's was like a post credits blurb (like the end of Air Force One where it quickly cuts back to Harrison Ford swinging a chair at a bad guy).
I watched my movie and then went out to talk to the theater manager who was covering breaks at concessions. I told him I had only caught a quick glance at the trailer, told him what it was, and he told me it was for the upcoming Austin Powers movie starring Mike Myers.
Went to see it when it came out and could not stop laughing. Went to see TSWSM and Goldmember with my Brother when they came out.
I've used so many lines from this, including the, "I fell over, I fell over again..." (when Austin is trying to seduce Ms. Kensington on the revolving bed) whenever I've tripped or fallen to the floor.
Austin's black glasses are a tribute to Michael Caine's Harry Palmer character in the '60s spy yarns, The Ipcress File and Funeral in Berlin. Later in the series Caine appears as Austin's father.

There's a bit of a difference between the Harry Palmer films and Bond!
This trilogy is among my favorites. Some clever humor, some dumb humor. Mocking the classic Bond genre, but in an affectionate way. Bawdy and crude, but not in an almost family friendly way. These movies never fail to make me laugh. Mike Myers at his best, and I like most of his work a lot.

This was one of the few movies that really took hold in the rental market. Is only performed modestly at the box office, but everyone rented it!
In the UK it came out the weekend after Princess Diana died.

I was 11 or 12 when the first one came out, must've seen it eight or nine times in the theater.
Mike Myers is one of the best things to come to the 1980s cast of Saturday Night Live. A true comic genius.
The second Austin Powers film was the best and Myer's performance is really overlooked when you consider how much praise Peter Sellers got for similarly playing multiple roles.
One of the big sketches that Mike Myers wrote in his very first season on SNL was called "The 1960's Movie", and it was basically a proto-Austin Powers -- it foreshadowed so many of the gags & visual style, and it was a really hilarious sketch (Leslie Nielsen was the guest on that episode). Myers clearly has a lot of affection for that era.
@@Johnny_SockoYep. The Swinging Sixties were a real thing in the UK from 1964 to 1970 and that environment formed Austin's personality. Of course, we had our own version of that here in the States.

Fun Fact: Mike Myers was inspired to write this movie after his father passed away. He had a lot of fond memories of watching '60s British spy movies with his dad as a kid, so he wrote this spoof as a tribute to the movies his dad loved so much.
Also, they don't make comedies like this anymore, I really miss those years when everyone were allowed to make movies like this without anyone getting offended.

Oh, people got offended. Just nobody cared when 12 people thought. Now, the 12 people are on TikTok and all interviewed on The View together to make it seem that their opinions are important.
I also heard that he used to use this character to tease his wife, and she said something like, "Just make it into a movie, get it out of your system, and stop yelling, 'Do I make you horny, Baby?!' at me at all hours of the day."

Dr. Evil describing his life up till that point is perfect gibberish in every way. Makes me miss the days of making meat helmets.
I could see Cassie struggling with the very British humour every so often which is in it of itself funny but she stuck with it so props her! Also the bond knowledge helped 😅
Mike Myers' speech celebrating Sean Connery is absolutely hilarious and provides background to how Austin Powers came about and how revered Sean Connery was by him.
I would also highly recommend checking out 'So I Married An Axe Murderer', which is hilarious and great fun. One of my all time favourites.

The best part of this movie and the trilogy in general is Dr. Evil. My favorite scenes of him in this movie are where he announces his grand plans, and Number Two has to break it to him that said plans have been attempted and/or already have happened. And I especially love the scene of Dr. Evil and Scott attending the group therapy session.
I’m not ashamed to say I memorised that entire monologue performed by Dr Evil in the session scene 😂

As a kid, I never noticed Mike was playing the hero and villain. That just shows how good he is. Like Eddie Murphy basically playing the entire Klump family.
For some reason my parents took 9 year old me to see this in theaters and I was definitely cooler to my 5th grade classmates as a result. I don't remember seeing any trailers before its release, but the series and characters became a phenomenon afterward. The soundtrack is also one of my absolute favorites of all time, great for putting on during a party

The easily escapable room thing reminded me more of the old Batman and Robin show where they would end every other show in a cliff hanger where the villain always wanted Batman dead but never waited around to actually see him die.

This is one of those extremely rare series that actually gets better. The third movie is by far my favorite. Really hope you watch the other two.
I disagree. It seems to me they ran out of James Bond stuff to spoof and so just put in a whole bunch of poop and penis jokes. The end of Goldmember is good, with them turning out to be brothers and suddenly working together ("Come on, you were always the smart one!"), and then going to the movie premier together. I don't know if it is hilarious or outrageous that the actual James Bond franchise then stole the idea of Bond and Blofeld being brothers from Austin Powers.

All jokes aside, superb work from Mike Myers playing both Dr. Evil and Austin, the two of them so funny in their own way. Bravo!
This was a real fun reaction to watch. Your moments that you were cringing, embarrassed or genuinely laughing and getting the jokes made this a fun ride. Please watch the other two movies because I honestly think you will get the same level of mindless enjoyment out of them...mind you that you will still have a mix of cringe, embarrassment and laughter.
So happy that you finally watched this! I really hope you'll keep watching the others. The monologue that Dr. Evil does about his childhood in the therapy session is on of my absolute favorite scenes.
"People reacting to Austin Powers transition scenes for the first time" should be its' own comedy genre, it never fails to amaze.
It's also funny how Dr. Evil managed to become more famous and memorable than Blofeld himself.
If you want a great romantic comedy with Mike Myers definitely check out So I Married An Axe Murderer. It's an EXTREMELY 90's comedy about a guy who's commitment-phobic in relationships but his new girlfriend may be an axe murderer. It's as cute as it is dark and super fun.

I watched it a few years ago and it was like I'd traveled through a time warp back to my teenage years. It was so 90s it hurt. The soundtrack was one of the many truly great ones of that era.

Haven't seen this in ages, still brilliantly funny and charming all the characters. Cassie is so good at her job and covers a wide variety of films very well.
I think this was my favorite reaction video so far. The eye rolling, the disgust, the genuine laughs were great! You reminded me of my mom's reactions when watching this movie for the first time. I really hope you watch the other 2 films to keep the laughs coming!
The Dr. Evil character was originally modelled on Lorne Michaels (the long time producer of SNL) by Dana Carvey. Apparently Mike Myers...appropriated it, and he and Carvey have been on the outs ever since.
Also, Shrek was maybe 2/3rds complete with Chris Farley doing the voice when he died. Myers took over, recreated what Chris had done, and then decided to redo the entire dialogue with a Scottish accent.
Mike Myers may be a real pain to work with, and has little trouble taking over a project as he sees fit, but he was in the right place and right time to be a part of some all time classic comedy.
Wow, Shrek with Chris Farley doing that voice - I can't even imagine that. Mike Myer's Scottish voice for that just fits so well, somehow.
You say "on the outs ever since." My understanding is they put aside their differences years ago. Dana Carvey talks at length about it in a 2022 interview with Howard Stern. But, you're right, there was tension between them for some time.
God, Mike Myers was such a great comedic talent.

Mike Myers didn't just draw from the Bond craze, but added influences from other period shows like The Avengers, The Man From Uncle, and movies like the Flint and Matt Helm series, Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine, and the original Casino Royale. It's a wonderful hodge podge of tropes that never takes itself seriously. Great casting. Please follow up with the other movies. They're worth a watch. Enjoy.
In like Flint would be another good watch since it is a Bond/Man from Uncle spoof which was actually made in the 60s

The short cut scenes where Austin is dancing with the others to some crazy 60s music is a direct nod to Laugh In, an American TV show that did the same thing between segments.

I remember watching the Austin Powers trilogy and laughing my ass off, even though I have never seen the old Bond movies. I didn't even knew it was supposed to be parody.
I love the way this film had the honesty to show us the Bond movies for what they are.
If you want Mike Myers in something more grounded, but romantic comedy-ish, try "So I Married an Axe Murderer" 🙋♀️ I still quote it from time to time.

Yes! James Coburn in "Our Man Flint" and "in Like Flint" are two Bond-esque films that came out in the 1960's -- basically, America's answer to James Bond (that, and Dean Martin's "Matt Helm") -- and they are really fun, kitchy, cool movies! You should see them! Also, Mike Myers did a little homage to The Beatles in "A Hard Day's Night", in one of those early scenes -- when girls were screaming and chasing him down the street, ala Beatlemania. Fun flicks!
Mrs. Kensington was a cross between Moneypenny and Emma Peel (Diana Rigg), a British Agent on a tv show from the 6o's called the Avengers. Austin's costume always brought to mind Derek Flint from "In like Flint" and "Our man Flint" movies, also a spy spoof from the 60's.
I think the costume was also influenced heavily by Jason King.
Please continue with the trilogy, Cassie. The third one is truly meta, and Myers plays four different characters. Also. MICHAEL CAINE!

When this came out here in the UK, my friend and I watched it, then immediately bought another ticket for the next showing and went back in. At the time, it really was 'our' Airplane. Just hysterical. Keep going with the other two, there are some great cameos and like you say, it doesn't take itself seriously - definitely not a movie franchise that needs in-depth analysis 😁😁

You probably noticed at some point that the woman running the therapy session was the late Carrie Fisher aka Princess Leia. The first one is easily the best in the series, but I think 2 and 3 are worth a watch.
I actually like the 3rd one the best, but they are all great.
Yeah. I was disappointed she didn’t recognize Carrie, especially given the previous reactions to the Star Wars films on the channel. I’m not trying to be harshly critical, either. I’ve only seen Fisher in mostly obscure roles outside of SW: Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Scream 3, Wonderland and Sorority Row.

I adore this movie. It was the funniest thing at the time. I remember taking the VHS to my friend's house for a sleepover and we watched it twice in 1 night. It's such a quotable movie and I hope you watch the rest as well. I think the 2nd may be even funnier in some parts. It's still veryyyy silly, crude, and immature...but I love this franchise. And yes, Austin Powers was an extremely popular Halloween costume at the time.

It's great that Cassie and Carly saw "From Russia" and "Goldfinger" before this, though "Dr. No" and "Thunderball" heavily influence the Austin Powers series, as does 60's era swinging London, early Beatles styles and so on. A parody is naturally dependent on some familiarity of what it's parodying, though the Austin Powers movies are good enough to stand on their own merit.

3:55 - She's supposed to be more of a play on Mrs. Emma Peel from "The Avengers" than Miss Moneypenny. "The Avengers" was a popular British spy/adventure TV show and the Mrs. Peel (Diana Rigg) era is considered the highpoint of the series.

I saw this movie in the theater. My 16 year old brain was not capable of appreciating the genius at the time. The satire runs so deep and there are so many social themes and ideals. The "not hooking up with someone because they're drunk" might seem obvious today, but that was a very progressive point being made in 1997.
I'm new to your channel, was recommended to me because another of my favorite reaction channels recently watched this. Seeing your reaction is particularly funny as you are getting the jokes more, as they've never seen Dr. No or any other James Bond movie to my knowledge.

1997? Wow time flies. I was 12/13yrs old when this came out. Every kid at my school loved this movie.
This came out the year I went to Uni. When I arrived, a new teaching facility was opened called the Austin Pearce Building. During freshers week, it was hijacked, and an enormous canvas artwork was hung from the top of it declaring it ‘The Austin Powers Building: International Building of Mystery’. We loved it, and the building was referred to as Austin Powers from that day on. Probably still is. It’s also hard to underestimate how much of that film’s dialogue made it into common conversation…! Love that movie!!

The rare trilogy that get better with each installment. And in the even more rarified air of being an outright parody of the British spy genre while by the third not only still operates on this level, but succeeds on a genuine narrative heartfelt level and, like, Men In Black III, finds a way with several twists by the series end that flips the real thematic intentions of the saga.

The series of Austin Powers movies sneak in a lot of naughtiness, but all without being too explicit! It is a great trilogy of fun!
I enjoyed watching you watch this. There were many low budget British spy flicks in the 60's that featured gaudy outfits and heroes with bad teeth, but they were fun and had groovy music. Mike Myers' parody of those themes was spot on.
Ah, thanks for the trip, it was so much fun watching this with my cousins at 13. Our uncle was a massive 007 fan, he was a Marine but thought 007 was the coolest. He was there when we watched it and we all died laughing, he would tell us the 007 references that went over our head. My favorite parts will always be the dancing scenes and the teaching of respect to women too with the alcohol scene and I would emulate it as I got older. (At the time this was a huge step into talking about that kind of thing for me).
