@@franzpi94 I sometimes use a NP-F to V-mount adapter, like the Protastic one ( amzn.to/3NEUPSe ), but that would require you to have a V-mount plate also. @@EmeraldAudiovisual Ehi man it's me again! So I did bought the Andycine plate but it doesn't work during recording (there is still the message that ask to turn off the camera). So I'm gonna try another solution or maybe the v mount plate that you are using!
Yes, you can. The charger that comes with the GH6 actually only is 1.5A, if I recall right. Any odd USB charger will charge the battery, while the camera is off. Lower amps or voltage just means, it takes longer.
So 9v/3a is only important to charge whilst using the camera. But to deliver power when the battery is fully charged, you can use less (volt/amp) from my testing. Is it the same for you?
It depends a bit. You can supply less, but it will drain the internal battery then. Also, if you supply less than 2A, it will ask you to turn the camera off to charge it. So it is always wise to supply it with the correct power.
@@EmeraldAudiovisual Hmm so far the internal battery hasn't drained but the power bank has. My issue is that my powerbank stays on even when camera is off (cannot switch off power bank manually), but when using the lower amp version (USB A), it switches off when battery is full. I will continue testing and see how it holds up. Thanks for the video.
@@kudobeats A lot of powerbanks turn themselves on, when the connected device negotiates USB-C PD. Also, even when you turn your camera off, it'll still request power to charge the battery. Your battery bank then not turning off, when the internal battery of the camera is full is something, Panasonic potentially can fix in firmware. You might want to send support a mail about that.
@@EmeraldAudiovisual Yeah it's strange, because even when I take the battery out of the camera, it is still "requesting" power from the power bank. But the USB A method is working fine, the battery needs to be charged beforehand but it works just fine. Panasonic don't even want to fix Cinelike D2, I doubt they will fix anything else for the Mark II lol. Thanks for the help!
Hello, how do you manage to have all the recording profiles on your GH6 because when I put my DMW-DCC12 dummy battery from my old GH5 in my GH6 I no longer have access to 5.7k or C4k 100MBPS while on your video I see that you have access to it. Thank you.
That's very much down to, what kind of a dummy, you are using. The one I've linked in the description is a USB-C PD based battery dummy and seems to deliver enough current for the GH6 to think, that it has a DMW-BLK22 battery installed.
@@Nessaiepasfaisle I have now added links to another dummy in the description, that works of USB-A QC3 and also delivers sufficient power. I meant to test this before, but had not got around to it yet.
@@EmeraldAudiovisual Thank you for the link. It turns out that I tried with my 8 volt V-Mount Tilta plate and my FX Lion BP-160 battery + the GH5 dummy battery and I still don't have access to all the video codecs. I must have missed something somewhere.
@@Nessaiepasfaisle 8V is not enough. The dummy's that I use output somewhere between 8.4-8.8V minimum. Nearer to 9V anyhow. And that's probably the difference there. But it really also depends on how the dummy is coded. If it's an older dummy, it may have been coded as a BLF-19 battery, which is what was used in the GH4 and GH5 and that's why you don't get the extra resolutions. The voltage is not the only contributing factor here.
Hi. Thanks for this video. It was quite instructive. However, I'm having issues when powering my GH5 II with my Anker power bank (Power Core III Sense 20k). Each time I try to power the camera with the USB-C port (and also trying to charge the battery at the same time) it only gives me the USB warning. I don't know if I did something wrong but I was hoping if you could help me with that, please ? Thanks in advance and keep up with the good work.
Your battery bank only has a 18W USB-C PD port, meaning it can only supply 9V 2A. So you can either power the camera or charge the battery. That's why you get that screen. You need a battery bank with 9V 3A profile to both power and charge the camera, so minimum 27W.
Hi. Thank you for a very informative video. Just want to check that the F1TP DMW-DCC12 USB-C Power Adapter DC Coupler Charger Set (Dummy Battery) will work with the GH6 ?, and the voltage is correct for the GH6 from the DC to DC convertor in the cable.
Just noticed further in the comments that you have tested it to work. I have the same powerbank from Anker and that works fine with my Sony A7-IV. Many thanks.
Very interesting video. Clear explanations. Can you give the links to buy your Anker battery which is suitable to run the GH6 without its battery with the F1TP DMW-DCC12 USB-C Power Adapter DC Coupler Charger Set?
I have now added links in the video description to the 2 Anker Powerbanks, that I know work and deliver sufficient current. As it really varies from country to country, where and how you can obtain these, I'm not supplying direct links to sellers. Shipping is always tricky with Lithium batteries.
Hi! Thanks a lot for the video, really needed this information! One cuestion, can you use the FOTGA dummy battery to charge the camera with the wall adaptor from the Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD 45W? I'm sceptical about the amperage and if the dummy battery has an amp converter. Thank you!
It does work with that battery bank. It also works with the wall charger from the Anker power bank, yes. The Anker battery and wall charger do not have the 12V profile, so what USB PD does, it drops down to 9V then. That is still more, than what the dummy needs to drive the camera. And yes, the dummy regulates the voltage for the camera.
That's all part of the dummy battery kit. The way most USB-C dummy battery kits work, is that you separate the cable from the dummy, connect the cable to the battery, place the dummy in the camera and only then connect them. It has something to do with how PD (power delivery) communicates with the power bank.
@@EmeraldAudiovisual I do have a dummy battery, but it has a short cable with a connecter and then would connect to a power source, usually a plug in power source. I am looking for a cable that would be able to plug into the dummy battery cable and have a usb-c at the other end. Thanks again
@@Roman3718 The issue is, that different dummy batteries are build up differently. You need to match up your dummy battery with the power source, that it came with. Otherwise you risk of damaging your camera. This dummy battery kit, that I've linked in the description, is fairly inexpensive and is a complete matching kit to power a Panasonic GH series camera from USB-C.
Similar to viewer Knutsen Lars Öivind, I purchased an Anker Power Core 3 elite (26K / 87W), figuring there was plenty of power there to run the GH6. The camera recognized the device, asked to select PC Tether, and once I did, it went into "please wait..." mode and has been there ever since. (I've let it run for 15 minutes, but nothing) Even after unplugging and shutting down and trying again, that's the only screen I see (while using the device). It doesn't even ask to PC tether anymore, goes straight to "please wait". I'm using the usb 3 cable that came with the device. Any suggestions? Please and thank you.
I am just looking for a dummy battery with an adapter to get power from a socket in the wall. Unfortunately my GH5 one is 2A and for the GH6 it's 3A right? What do I do? Thanks!
The dummies, I've listed fit the GH4, GH5, GH5-II and GH6. USB-A one even comes with wall-plug. It doesn't matter if the camera requires less. It's only a problem if the requires more ampere.

I assume, it is the USB variant you are talking about with the power brick. What ampere is the USB port in the V-mount rated at ? And is it a QC3 port ? There is a difference with these ports. A QC3 port can provide 9V. Have you tried it with the power brick that came with it and checked, if it unlocks all the modes then?
@@EmeraldAudiovisual I have a smallrig 3204 (v mount plate). It has a 5v/2amp USB, 8v DC, 12v DC, and 14.8v d-tap. The v mount battery is an swx neo 9, with a 5v usb and smart d-tap with 12vdc. But the spiral chord doesn't fit through the porthole of the dummy battery door on the GH6. It seems there are no viable v-mount dummy battery options available. 😭
@Bret Snyder I have the SmallRig 3497 and the Switronix Pro-X V-mounts myself. The dummy needs 9.5-9.9V to power the GH6 fully. The 8V port on the SmallRig does deliver enough current to power a GH5, but it won't allow for the GH6. I have two P-tap/D-tap solutions in the post arriving next week, that I will be testing with the GH6. If those are successful, there will be a V-mount follow up video. In theory, it would also be possible to rig something using a buck-converter and the 12V port of the V-mount, but if you're not electronically inclined, i'd advise against it. Anton Bauer make a Canon 9V P-tap cable for the Canon DR-E6C dummy and the Canon R5C, that outputs the correct voltage, but it doesn't have the correct connector to fit into the Panasonic dummy. That could be adapted and provide a solution, if all else fails.

Thanks a lot. Now we have SSD-option for the GH6. Could you tell us what kind of dummy and battery option might work for that case? Do I need 9V3A as well for powering? Just in case you might know already, thanks again in advance
If you look at the bottom of the description of the video, I've listed 3 different dummies (one USB-C, one USB QC3.0 and one D-tap) that work for me and give me all modes in the GH6.
Thank you, I connected the anker powerbank (recommended) to the dummy battery (recommended) and it doesn't work, the device turns on fine, but it turns off when I activate the boosted dynamics or when I activate the "SSD" function is this normal?
It should most certainly not turn off. However, I made the video before USB-C SSD recording was available, so didn't get to test that then. I did receive another USB-C dummy this week that even has the extra connections at the top and have just finished testing that. It works in all modes and with USB-C SSD reliably. The description of the video has been updated and the link to that dummy added. It can unfortunately only be got on Amazon.com, but at least they handle customs etc.
Is there any problem if I power my GH6 (with a dummy) and monitor from the same NP-F 550 battery? I've seen people discussing it could fry the hdmi port, is it true?
Just make sure, that the HDMI always is the last cable to plug in. The reason, that people fry their HDMI ports when using the same battery, is that the camera or the monitor tries to use the HDMI as ground plane (draw power across it). Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras are especially prone to it.
Hi Emerald boss, I have a question... I have GH6 markII and my AIM is to charge this camera VIA USB-C port in camera. Is that possible? Last time I did use the origan charger - but than camera shuts down after about 90min. I found here in text - that the original charger is not having enaugh strenght - just only about 1,5A - so if you would buy some stronger USB-C charger, you think that´s gonna work out? :) Thanks for your time!
GH6 ? or GH5-II ? Either, this applies to both. You need a USB-C PD charger, that can output 9V 3A. That'll work, yes. Most USB-C chargers rated 45W or more have this profile.
Personally, I've gone with the Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD 45W. Be aware, that there are 3 versions of the 26800 model (at the very least), so the the important bit is the "PD 45W" portion.
@@cyklzycia8814 The issue is, you need 9V 3A. That's 30W. Minimum. There is very little smaller, that will be able to deliver that. Most smaller battery banks only have 18W PD ports and that is not enough.
Hey man, I’m having an issue. I’m using Anker PowerCore III Elite 26k 87w pd, but everytime I plug in the usb c to usb c cable, the usb mode menu pops up. Any suggestions or fix to this?
Unfortunately it won't. The USB-C PD port on that battery bank is rated 18W. You need 30W. It will charge your battery, while the camera is turned off though. But the battery logo, while in use, will likely not appear. I'm actually not sure, if it might supplement the internal battery, but still drain it. I have an Anker 20000 mAh pack like that. I might test and see, what the GH6 says to it.
Hi, I checked it. Both the GH5-II and the GH6 will go into an infinite loop looking for a storage device or something, if you plug an 18W rated power bank into them. So you really only can use them to charge your battery inside the camera, while the camera is off.
I've also updated the description with Amazon links on the 45W one for US, UK and Germany now. They can be hard enough to find due to the shipping restrictions on batteries.
Disappointing that powering via USB-C doesn't work without the battery, I do a lot of streaming and I don't want to wear out the battery for no reason when I'm running off mains power.
As long as your USB power bank is powerful enough (PD 30W !!), your battery doesn't get used, so it should have no wear on your battery. But the system seems to need it.

The easiest indicator is to look at, if the port can output 9V and how many watt it is rated for. If it is rated for more than 30W, it's good. If it's only 18W, then you can not use it.
@@EmeraldAudiovisual Yes, I've learned that from you. Thanks a lot. My last doubt was about the voltage and ampere that would need to go to the dummy battery.
I have read all your commentaries here and I think you've said somewhere that it must be the same 9V3A the USB port needs. Right? 🖖🏻😘
@@NatanRufino Correct. I've had some reports from people, that some dummy batteries don't deliver enough power. The camera then just behaves like you stuck a BLF-19 into it and doesn't give you access to all modes. The ones, I've linked give access to everything.
I bought this same dummy battery for my GH6, with the Anker PowerCore III Elite 19200 60W Power Bank Bundle with 65W PD, and the dummy battery doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?
Disconnect the connector between dummy and USB-C connector. Plug the cable into the power bank first and the dummy into the camera. Then connect that barrel plug last.

Can you charge the GH6 with the powerbank when it's off?
If yes, can it be done with a powerbank with less than 9v/3A output?
Yes, you can. The charger that comes with the GH6 actually only is 1.5A, if I recall right. Any odd USB charger will charge the battery, while the camera is off. Lower amps or voltage just means, it takes longer.
@@EmeraldAudiovisual Thank you very much
your camera quiver is sick
@@EmeraldAudiovisual Ok thanks. I understand.
That is amazing. Will the GH6 (blk22) battery work on the GH5s (blf19e) camera?
Yes, it does work with the GH5, G9 and GH5S.
Yes, it works for me with that power bank. All modes available.
@@EmeraldAudiovisual Thanks for confirmation.
@@EmeraldAudiovisual Thanks for the answer and the new links
@@EmeraldAudiovisual Thanks a lot for the fast response!
Thanks for the video. What do you call and where do you get the usb c cable to work with the dummy battery plug. Thanks Roman
Are you plugged into the USB-C PD port on the battery bank ? The USB-A ports of your power bank will not provide enough power.
@@EmeraldAudiovisual Thanks! I’m sorry I probably explained myself wrong. I bought the GH6 and I am looking for a way to get power from the socket in te wall. @@EmeraldAudiovisual Okay! Thank you! I will order it. 💪🏼
I bought the DMW-BLF19 Dummy battery you linked in your description, and it does not unlock all resolutions in my GH6, into a v-mount battery via USB. Does the GH6 need to use the 8V or D-tap in order to run off of a v-mount battery?
I can see the USB isn't powerful enough from either unit. Would I need a d-tap dummy battery? I've only found one that says it can power a GH6 from Kondor Blue.
@@EmeraldAudiovisual I just ordered the D-tap to GH6 dummy battery from Kondor Blue: KB_DT_LS5GH5. It SHOULD work. I don't like the coiled wire as it won't fit through the porthole of the dummy battery door, but I can't see any other options atm. Looking forward to what you find out.
@@EmeraldAudiovisual One question again. What kind of Watt-amount do I need for the PD Powerbank to power the GH6 at least? Thanks again
@Marcel Steuermann check for the 9V 3A profile (9V 2A is not enough). So 27W or more. All 45W rated PD powebanks usually have the 9V 3A profile.
GH5s can use with Powerbank delivery? and can poen with use powerbank on ?

It should most certainly not turn off. However, I made the video before USB-C SSD recording was available, so didn't get to test that then. I did receive another USB-C dummy this week that even has the extra connections at the top and have just finished testing that. It works in all modes and with USB-C SSD reliably.
