    Q: What are some easy woodworking projects that you like to make?

    • @toddb.1745

      Bandsaw boxes. Nothing big but fun to make for the kiddos and give you a lot of practice with the bandsaw. They can be a little brain teaser too.

      I enjoy wood turning, but it doesn’t sell well in my area. So now I make a lot of coasters, cutting and charcuterie boards with both wood and wood/resin which do sell

      Lately I’ve really gotten into wood burning. I’ve been making plaques on different types of hard woods and burning all kinds of designs on them for people- logos, lettering, graphics, etc… they are very versatile too. Add some hooks and you can make a key holder, or hang some kitchen utensils, or small garage tools.

      I am late to the video and just starting to think about woodworking, but why not put a couple pieces on the bottom to lock the board into place in the tub. Keep the whole thing from falling in?

    Such a special gift. I found you because I'm actually going to try to make one for myself. It won't be exactly like this because I only have a few power tools, but I do have a DeWalt compound miter saw, a Ryobi orbital sander, and a DeWalt hammer drill. Also, a router that I haven't used yet. Guess this is a good time to figure it out. :) Thank for the excellent video.

    Really appreciate your comment: “in woodworking, you just gotta have some want-to”.. as a Marine veteran I learned the art of improvisation. Came in clutch when I first started out with a small spending budget. My first major power tool was a circular saw. That along with a drill and a hand-sanding block pulled me through some nice projects I still consider among my best to this day.

    Nice project for Mom's Day Matt! It is made with intention & care... (& the "L" word) 😁😁😁 As you were building the book/tablet holder, I thought of something. After you get it to the rectangular shape, take your holder & mark it out or measure it out. Then it'll be easier to groove it. Just a thought. Like it lots!

    Ok bud, I have watched your videos for the past month now. Seeing your modivation and willingness to want to teach people has me hooked. I'm a alluminum welder from Iowa and I have access to all the free hard wood I want and I have been wanting to do something with it. Now that I have found your channel I'm diving in!!! Thanks buddy and God bless.

    Great video, Matt. This is such a cool project.
    This reminds me of the videos that you did 'in the old days'.
    As a 'tee-totallin' Baptist myself, I think that you should design and sell some 'Diet Pepsi,' or 'Sweet Tea' glasses that are shaped like wine glasses, but say 'Diet Pepsi', 'Diet Soda' or 'Sweet Tea' on them. I feel like there are a lot of 731 fans out there who don't consume alcohol and who might like to purchase some drink glasses like those.
    Thanks for sharing this special video.

    I sometimes go overboard with my use of router bits but what I would probably do is ⅜" on top and ⅛" on the bottom. Either way is awesome, just don't wanna leave it square.

    Been wanting a bath caddy for ages. These projects turned out so well. And thanks a million for the link to the festool soft pad. 13:20 what would be the best way to drill those holes without the center point being noticeable? (I know that's kind of nitpicky and probably doesn't matter, I'm just always curious about different ways to do things)

  • @terekschultz1230
    @terekschultz1230 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Get a center mark tape measure, you wont have to do math. The top of the tape measure works as normal the bottom has the half measurement of whatever you are measuring. I use a Stanly they are cheap like 15 bucks or less.

  • @davidburris120
    @davidburris120 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you were making the groove for the tablet holder, how was it the wrong way? When you’re sliding out the wood you’re going to have wood on either side of the blade. Seems arbitrary then. What am I missing?

    • @Ding_Bat
      @Ding_Bat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The router should, as far as possible, be moved AGAINST the rotation of the bit. That allows the bit to cut INTO the wood, and it gives you more overall control of the cut.
      Doing it the other way would result in you having to fight the router, which is not ideal.

    • @davidburris120
      @davidburris120 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ding_Bat That’s what I don’t understand. In this case it’s cutting on both sides of the blade so one side is going towards the blade and once I was going away from the blade no matter what.

    • @731Woodworks
      @731Woodworks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is an excellent video on the topic th-cam.com/video/9IBn1iXpzdU/w-d-xo.html

    • @Ding_Bat
      @Ding_Bat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidburris120 I was also going to link to Stumpy Nubs’ excellent video, but I feel that he doesn’t quite touch on why direction is important when routing dados.
      When routing dados, the position of the guide determines whether you should push or pull, and it is done for control more than anything else. You are quite correct in saying that the bit would cut into the wood on both sides. Because of this, the router would tend to wander when cutting.
      The general rule is that the guide must be on the counterclockwise side of the router's path, so that the natural wandering of the router pushes it INTO the guide, thus preventing the router from wandering away from the cut, and ending up ruining your piece, like what almost happened here.
      I hope I got all of that right! 😉😉

    • @davidburris120
      @davidburris120 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ding_Bat ok…so it’s based on the guide and it’s for control. Got it. That makes sense to me, now. Thanks for taking the time. 🤙🏼
