Thanks Mr. Outlaw for all the videos you make. I have recently started to got into woodwork and have been acquiring power tools to begin using. I wish I would have waited on this Ryobi jigsaw. I ended up getting the 12v Bosch barrel and Skil 12v barrel. Once one of them goes out, I am replacing it with the Ryobi since I already own a bunch of 18v tools.
Thanks for the feature review. I didn’t know the barrel grip didn’t have a trigger. I’m not sure I’d like a switch. I have a D handle Ryobi 20v that I was more or less happy with until I saw your first impressions of the barrel grip Ryobi. I also saw you mention in another video that Festool blades made a huge difference. So now I think maybe I need to try some festool blades. Oh look. You’re talking about festool blades in this video now. Lots of good info in this video. Thanks!
I use a jigsaw to cut out sink holes on laminated countertops at Habitat houses. The downcut blades work great to prevent chipping the laminate. Select the right blade direction for the job.
I've come across some diablo jigsaw blades that are both up-cut/down-cut (like a compression router bit) that are spaced just right for 3/4 sheet material to give you clean cuts on both faces.
One blade I love is a laminate blade. It has teeth on the top angle downward, and teeth on the bottom angled upwards. Turn off the orbital feature and perfect clean cuts on both sides.
I made several 0 tolerance plates for different blades. After being frustrated by not being able to easily see curved lines, I cut a V notch into the front of the blade to just in front of the blade.
Diablo has a hidden gem of a jigsaw blade that is like voodoo-black magic because of its ability to produce the cleanest cuts. It’s Diablos ultra fine finish jigsaw blades & the secret behind it is the top half of the blades teeth are pointed down & the bottom half of the blades teeth are pointed up creating a compression like cutting effect. I guarantee they’ll make a cleaner cut than even the higher end more expensive blades on the market. Not a lot of people know about these blades so it might make a good TH-cam video
Wow all the years I have been using a jigsaw I learned a few new things never knew what the switch on the side actually did I have always left it on zero because that seemed to give me the best cut plus never thought about turning the blade backwards.
Get good blades. A cheap jig saw with a good blade is a great tool. An expensive jig saw with a garbage blade is a garbage tool. Sure, good blades might cost more than the jig saw cost to begin with, but that's OK. The jig saw can be a good friend if you use good blades in it. No different than the band saw, table saw, miter saw or circular saw. The name on the tool itself or how much it cost is of far less importance than the blade you use on the tool. I went through this exact thing at first and I was frustrated. Up until I got my act together and bought some good quality jig saw blades. It was day and night. The jig saw went from a frustrating totally unenjoyable experience ruining work pieces and costing time and money, to a smooth and easy enjoyable experience resulting in precise, accurate beautiful cuts. It was just the blades. Blades matter. I find up cut blades to be the best type for wood working. They tend to deflect less and cut straighter and walk less and chatter less and all that stuff. Down cut are OK for metal and plastics and non-wood materials though.
Jigsaw kickback usually won't hurt your wrist, unlike kickback from a drill. But jigsaw kickback can potentially snap a blade. Ive snapped a jigsaw blade before. The broken piece flew toward my eyes at high speed. Luckily I was wearing safety glasses and I heard and felt the broken piece of blade bounce off the glasses.
You forgot to mention the blade that works best for laminates. It has half the teeth downward facing and half the teeth upward facing. I have found that blade to provide a much cleaner cut on laminates than any other blade I have used on laminates.
I've been looking for a good blade for my circular saw for ripping a 2×10. I was told to get one with the least amount of teeth but those are framing blades but I was told not to use a framing blade. I only see 10" blades that actually say ripping. What blade should I use?. Is the M12 fuel jigsaw as good as the bigger tools?
probably and not something you would want to do for long periods of time, but to get into tight spaces, it's a handy trick you can use for a cut or two.
The jigsaw is probably my least favorite power tool. Whether I use my late father's 60yo Rockwell jigsaw or my 10yo Festool jigsaw, I rarely get a cut perpendicular to the surface. The blade invariably will deflect.
If there’s one thing more certain about 731 posting clickbait titles it’s people complaining about the clickbait in the comments increasing their engagement for the algorithm even more. 😂🎉
Ha! I thought no way you're going to show me something I didn't know about jigsaws. Well, crap, you did. Also, my wife wants to know where you store all the tools you have. We imagine every nook and cranny in your house has a power tool stashed in it.
I really feel like I’m watching an infomercial every time I click on his videos now. It’s a shame because I used to really like him but oh well brother‘s gotta get click so I understand.
All I can say is there's a lot worse clickbait out there than that. It's just his opinion that he thinks 99% of beginners might not know some of these things. I'm not a beginner but I certainly learned a lot from the video
I’ve been using power tools since the mid 60’s. In fact I have a”Sabre” saw (Crqftsman), corded with a steel body that shocks you when you use it sometimes. I appreciate the kids like 731 (who’s the same age as my son) giving me information about new and improved tools. I follow 731 not because of “click bait”. I go because he’s done the research and it’s helpful. Don’t worry 731, you CAN teach an old dog new trick and I truly appreciate it.

There’s something about using a festool blade on a ryobi saw that brings me joy! Room for all the tool brands to shine!
I never thought about inserting the blade in backwards and pulling the saw toward me. Something that simple could be a game changer.
Super helpful! I have that Bosch jigsaw, and wasn't aware of 90% of your video.
Backwards blade installation... wow! Thank you!!!!!!!
Great and very informative video. Lots of little tips and tricks to make it easier to use the jigsaw properly.
Thanks for the great advice! I picked up several tips that I hadn’t heard before.

Thank you! This is a timely video for me. Been looking to get handheld jigsaw, and I'm both a beginner and Ryobi fan.
Glad the video was helpful!
Great tips Mighty Matt!!
Thanks!
Just got the new Ryobi barrel grip. AWESOME tool! I love how it fits in the rack right along side my drills and drivers
Love this, lots of data in one spot (like the T shirt message also)
Great video Matt. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the good tips!
I wanted to buy the Festool blades for my ryobi jig saw but was scared they wouldn’t fit, now I will buy them. Thanks.
Thanks for the feature review. I didn’t know the barrel grip didn’t have a trigger. I’m not sure I’d like a switch.

Awesome Jigsaw Tips! It's the most tool I use for my projects. 😃
Hi!!! thank you very much for such an instructive video about the jigsaw.
God's Grace in all that you de! You are awesome, and much Love!

Hehe, I just noticed that you are getting quite close to 731k subs :D
Thx Matt very informative 👍
Yo!
Turning the blade around never even crossed my tiny mind.🤦♂️
👏👏👏
I made several 0 tolerance plates for different blades. After being frustrated by not being able to easily see curved lines, I cut a V notch into the front of the blade to just in front of the blade.

Nice watch!
Great idea about the reverse blade, never thought of that one. You never mentioned the number one rule, never pull it out before it has stopped aha
👍great video
Thanks 👍
@ 🙂

You need to update that subscriber panel at the back ^^
Love my barrel grip Milwaukee 12V battery is much smaller and lighter than the Ryobi.

Is the M12 fuel jigsaw as good as the bigger tools?
In the UK there are is hardly a range for buying u shanks anymore.
Just a matter of preference I suppose, but I have always preferred corded over cordless.
Doesn't the reversing of the blade as shown at 8:54 dull the blade? It has to rub against the guide no?
I am also curious about this.
probably and not something you would want to do for long periods of time, but to get into tight spaces, it's a handy trick you can use for a cut or two.
@731Woodworks Cool. I was curious if you really use this trick on a regular basis. Thanks for the response.
The jigsaw is probably my least favorite power tool. Whether I use my late father's 60yo Rockwell jigsaw or my 10yo Festool jigsaw, I rarely get a cut perpendicular to the surface. The blade invariably will deflect.
Down cut blades with the high oscilation setting won't cut
I have a rigid and it bounces all over heck no controls on it you just pull the trigger and it goes
The lack of trigger on the barrel grip jiggly saw is frustrating.
Jigsaw is great for coping baseboards.
You didn’t know 7 hours ago that festool made jigsaw blades?

Yeah... my blades walk a lot LOL
I really feel like I’m watching an infomercial every time I click on his videos now. It’s a shame because I used to really like him but oh well brother‘s gotta get click so I understand.
Put the money into a quality blade and a cheap saw as opposed to a high end saw and cheap blade. Best to get quality saw and blade if possible.
Brother, why do you start with the click bait title of 99%? You cheapen all of your work by stooping to that level
All I can say is there's a lot worse clickbait out there than that. It's just his opinion that he thinks 99% of beginners might not know some of these things. I'm not a beginner but I certainly learned a lot from the video
I don't think it cheapens anything. 4 of my top 8 all time viewed videos start with 99% which total over 7 million views. If it ain't broke…..
he's setting up to subvert your expectations when he puts 98% on one instead of 99

I agree. I often skip videos with titles like this
Lol how is a jigsaw versitile? It does one thing
Am still waiting for the “mistakes to avoid”… these were just general tips, nothing to actually avoid
