He is electro-engineer, he knows how these motors work for decades. Its novelty only for you and he made the video in such way, that it would approachable.
I've made homopolar motors before! Quite simple but really amazing once it starts turning. Mind you, sometimes it takes the bugger ages of fine tuning the wire to get it to turn, but once you get it in the right position with just the right pressure, it goes like the clappers!
When i was in 6th grade, my science teacher was awesome. For one assignment, she gave us supplies and we had to make a "humm dinger". The idea was to have a single momentary human input and the device you build would hum then ding. I built a ding hummer instead. I got an A for effort since I got way further than the others in my class.
A few years ago I built that second type of motor you made. I actually got it running pretty smooth. I don’t remember sanding only one side of the magnet wire but I may have had the first type of magnet you had oriented just right. It worked really well and I could get it to spin pretty fast using 2 AA batteries. Winding didn’t get too hot for me.

If boom was american bestcity would have probably said “American scientist discovers electricity.” The way you type and your condescending emojis are incredibly annoying. Try to think ahead a little before you comment lol.
I remember this being in one of those "science is fun!" kind of books I got as a kid. Funny thing is, even back then they didn't explain how it worked, just how to make it. Granted, teaching grade schoolers about electromagnetism is probably pretty hard, but still, I guess the trend of just showing off something that is "cool" instead of explaining it isn't such a new trend. Nonetheless, thank you for finally explaining it to me.
I understood the explanation! It's all about the right-hand rule. The I component is going the same way but the B component is going opposite ways, so the F component is also going in opposite ways. I only have two questions: Why is current the "I field", and why is magnetism the "B field"?
Because in physics, the letter I is used for current (like in Ohm's law, V = IR), and the letter B is used for magnetic field, or more precisely, magnetic flux density (like in the Lorentz force law, F = qE + qv*B).
5:05 As far as I know the Flemming's right hand rule, the MIDDLE FINGER is for the direction of CURRENT and INDEX FINGER is for the FIELD direction. Correct me if I am wrong😊
If u forget fleming's right and left hand rule, u can use right hand palm rule. More easier than fleming's. Right hand palm rule can be used in prediction direction of forces in motors and direction of induced emf in generators.
Man that guy is so positive it's unbelievable. He's making me happy with his attitude. Thanks for that! Everytime I feel down I watch those videos and my mood is immediately getting better.
Actually Fleming's left hand rule is used in electric motors. Basically he should Interchange the current and magnetic field (Yes I'm saying that he is wrong as Fleming’s Right Hand Rule states that if we arrange our thumb, forefinger and middle finger of the right-hand perpendicular to each other, then the thumb points towards the direction of the magnetic force, the forefinger points towards the direction of the magnetic field and the middle finger points towards the direction of the current.)
