my iPadPro has been a daily driver for 4 yrs & after evaluating an Ally Extreme for a week, these handhelds do so much of what I expected my iPadPro to do by now that I'm not surprised u made the jump! I got the Ally Extreme to replace a black screen 2015 MBP that's been perfect to learn the ropes of Batocera Linux & start contributing to open source. I haven't owned a Windows machine since my Thinkpad died in 2004 & $499 was that magic pricepoint for the mac mini & became a Apple fanboy monster 😅 I'm decently happy w my iPadPro but it refuses to continue to push all kinds of envelopes & Google Docs on Safari quirks are getting old fast (it was working so well!) I watch this video & see dual USB4 as futureproofing & I'd bet someone will come up w Switch-like detachable joycons for the Go🔮 this so would be the cherry on top! 🍒 I'm just getting my feet wet in PC gaming so I'm not that demanding (yet) - a $456 open box Ally Extreme is good bang for the buck being under my budget of $500. That said, I'm trying to decide by next Tue whether or not to spend the extra 50% ($224) for the 1TB Go (or even 75% ($344) for the Ally X) or if I should just sit pretty & let the handheld storm weather out longer ⛈️ what is yr journey? what are some of yr major use cases? did ya actually ditch yr iPadPro completely? hope I'm not asking too much as input appreciated as a fellow iPadPro user!🙏🏻
@@TheDarKris hey I don't see my comment here but I got a notification 🤔 yes - I am curious to hear more as a iPadPro owner! I had the Ally for 2 weeks, exchanged for a LeGo & I think it's going back. I was considering a EM780 to pair w my iPadPro & someone is wooing me into a M1 16GB/1TB mini that is hard to resist... (I've since gotten RetroArch & PPSSPP back up on the iPadPro (no more AltStore) which is sweet too)
@@happerexanime1471 I used my iPad as a multimedia device only. The Legion Go's Screen is so nice I don't mind watching videos and such on that. Plus I can still play my PC games if I want to
You hold the top two buttons to turn on the controllers when they're not connected and you can swap the start and select buttons to the top buttons in legion space .
Please be more clear in future top 2 buttons can be misconstrued. When I first read top two buttons I thought you meant the lb+lt & rb+rt You meant legion l and legion r I had to heavily search Google for an answer because it wasn't bringing up the desired results easily. I thank you for trying to help but clear instructions like the actual name of the buttons helps more and can easily be checked in legion space controller settings edit/view button mapping
I started the process of returning my legion go a day after arrival. But in the next few days until the date of collection I feel in love. And a day before they should pick up the handheld I cancelled my return. You need time to discover it and after you will love it.
Yeah. I think the more time that I spend with it, the more I enjoy it. I just hate the ergonomics. I think I might 3D print some grip attachments for it.
It's like regular gaming laptop: when you get it, it takes some time to arrange and tune it, and you hate it when you doing it) but after tinkering is done - you just love it)
Had my Go a week now and really loving it, im coming from the Steam deck lcd and haven't touched it since. The future is exciting for the pc handheld market.
Hello, some tips: 1) For audio: fxsound - gaming mode 2) Virtual memory: disk C - 10 Gb, disk D - 32 Gb 3) Disable CPU turbo boost 4) When using Performance mode, Lenovo works for 90-100 minutes. For heavy games, 20w is enough. 5) Screen resolution in games: If the game runs in 2K resolution as rdr 2 (texture ultra, fsr balance, 20w (Performance mode), fps 36 limit (144 hz screen)) - enjoy. If the game does not work stably at 2k at 36 fps, then the game resolution is 1200p and the screen resolution is 1600p + lossless scaling program with the ls1 algorithm (the game must be in a window) - enjoy
I had a lot of misgivings about getting a legion go but I kind of love it. I don't mind using it plugged it as it's still more portable than most laptops and having a type C charger around or a portable charging brick most places I use it actually isn't an issue. I like popping it out in a breakroom with a pair of bluetooth headphones. It's not for me to sit in the park unplugged for hours on end. It's not a switch and I don't use it like one. Legion space is ignorable, but I like how it just puts any computer game in my hand no matter where I am. Including a lunch break at the local cafe.
The Go is the only handled I've used that doesn't hurt my hands after a short gaming session. I don't notice it digging into my palms like a lot of people complain about. This obviously happens for some people, but know that YMMV, and it may just end up being the most comfortable handheld you've ever used
@@HooktonFonnix nice to hear, for me its the complete opposite, i love my legion go but its horrible for comfort, steam deck oled was the best for me comfort wise and i tried all 3 (sd, ally, legion go)
Got my LeGo two weeks ago from BB for my Vegas trip (Tip: Don’t believe it will deliver next day when it said it would. BB ended up sending me via UPS Ground from LA to NYC, which was ridiculous. I picked up my 2nd order from my local BB before my flight, and returned the late arrival after I returned from Vegas) Played Horizon 5 and Street Fighter 6 on the plane and successfully fast forwarded my plane trips.
@@the0nlytrueprophet942 this gen is over when the Ps5 and Xbox 1 are already on their late cycle and Nintendo is going to release a new console which aren't possible to be emulated with these devices
The menu buttons can be changed to start and select and vice versa in the Legion Space settings. I think it was added back in February and I have had it that way from the day I got my Legion Go. Also when it comes to sound I would recommend trying FXSound. Before I installed that I would agree that the sound really sucked. After installing it I gotta say that I prefer the Legion Go over something like my Switch even though the switch has front-firing speakers.
I recently bought a used one for $470 and after changing the original 512gb ssd to 2TB and installing Bazzite in dual boot, it became a very pleasant and comprehensive handheld 👍👍 I definitely recommend at least trying it
Micro Center is where you wanna go to get one of these guys. Back when they had just released, I bought an open box one that had been bought and returned within a week and was able to get a 512gb model for like $600. All the open Box ones have literally nothing wrong with them so might as well get them cheaper. The only thing you're missing out on is the Xbox Game Pass trial that comes with the legion go.
@@manofwill2468 Just Make sure the 1TB is the Lenovo 1TB and not a Microcenter upgraded SSD....my launch unit from there was 1TB that was just 512gb upgraded by Microcenter...the SSD fried and had to be replaced just a month ago...I bought a Micron 2TB SSD then and upgraded it myself to 2TB...you do NOT want the Microcenter SSD in your Legion Go.
if battery life is that important to you you prob wont like the go, its a performance beast. its 2024, most cars have a 120V plug in, external batteries are a dime a dozen. versatility, performance, button mapping, gyro aiming and the FPS mouse is what makes the go king.
Need one! Got a bit of free time at my new job and want something to do. My budget agrees more with the rog ally but i really like the detachable gamepad and the fact that i could run a seperate controller and have that nice 8 inch display
I’m a battery saver guy so I don’t mind playing at reasonable settings to save battery life quite the opposite from you. Just want to give some info. Currently playing lies of P on this thing with 800p low settings quality fsr. 1.10w - 36/40fps - 3hrs 2.12w - 60FPS - 2hrs30minutes Imo the sweetspot for most games are 10w-12w. This works on AAA games that are fairly optimised. Cyrberpunk, god of war, lies of P, forza horizon 5, GTA V, assassin creed games, etc. AAA games that are not quite optimised yet do require atleast 15W-18w for 30fps. Starfield, avatar, new horizon game. Wattage to battery estimation(800p/60hz/wifi off/bluetooth off/light off/low settings) 1. 7w to 8w - 4hrs30mins/4hrs(good for emulation until ps2 for most games 2.9 to 10 w - 3hrs30mins/3hrs(perfect for new light pc games and possible for older AAA game such as hellblade, gta v and also possible for some newer AAA 30-40fps ex-lies of P. 3.11w-12w - 2hrs45mins/2hrs30mins(good for 60FPS optimised triple A games/older AAA games. 4.15w-18w - 2hrs10mins/1hr50mins(good for 30-40fps for newest Not very optimised game such as helldivers 2, avatar, starfield) Of course these are not 100% accurate. These are just based on my experience and rough calculations.
I got all three! I have the Oled steam deck, Asus ROG Ally and the Legion go. I might be biased because I had to RMA my Asus rog ally 2 times!!! First was the sd card reader then the left and right triggers warrant registering 100% and then the second time was sd cards reader (again) and the joy sticks. I love my steam deck but been having loads of fun with my Legion go the screen is awesome!!! The battey life is the same as the ROG Ally. They both burn through really quick. The joysticks on the ROG Ally are really loose for me... like there's no resistance. But anywho the legion go rocks! 🤟
Those hall sensing joysticks on the Legion Go are solid! Also, I do have to say that the ROG Ally has had issues with RMA stuff. Thankfully users have an extended warranty now. I also have all three. And the MSI Claw, for what it's worth. 😅
@@danielhaposanmarbun6867 Yes, I do! I love the steam deck and its ease of use. I also like the Legion Go for the screen and the games the stream deck can't play ill play on there.
@@negativezerocool2518 I have a gaming pc, and all my game is in steam library. Do you think I should I go for the steamdeck or legion go? I don't have any console right now though.. And do you think the LCD one still worth it? Or should I go for the OLED? (I had switch OLED before (but nintendo games isn't really for me so I sold it) so I afraid I got disappointed with the screen if I got SD LCD)
I love everything about the Legion Go. I see many videos of people hating on it or really focusing on, to me, very minor things that yeah can be annoying, but not worth saying it’s not a good handheld. I am always on it and has taken over as my go to gaming device. Absolutely amazing experience!
Me and wife live in car travel etc and when I say this thing is God send I mean it. I've built crazy pcs before and for this little tank to be able to run apex at 100+fps and run space marines at 60fps this thing is unbelievable . 144hz screen as well. This thing SLAPSSS
800p with integer scaling id the way to go. Looks way better and more crisp than steam deck and ally at 800p. 1600p is ONLY for indie games. Idk why we talk about the battery, honestly this is a handheld that should be on your coffee table or night stand plugged in 24/7. This is not something meant to take out and about.
I disagree. When set up optimally, I get multiple hours of gameplay out of it. Additionally, when using it for lets say, a laptop replacement for TH-cam or Netflix, or other types of media, it last about 5 hours on battery. It beats my laptop at runtime, but when you do throw a AAA game at it, it will suck the juice from the battery very quickly. But, again, if you optimize it correctly, you can get a reasonably long play session. For example, I play Battlefield 2042 at certain settings and it looks great, and I end up with about 2.2 hours of gameplay. Thats pretty good for a next-gen power hungry game. As long as everyone works through the hours of figuring out the best settings for each game, it's worth it, and it does in fact become a very viable portable gaming solution.
I have the Steam Deck OLED and Legion Go and I do play my OLED more since the overall experience is better and more efficient than the Go. The Go does have a large and pretty screen and can play games that the OLED has trouble with, but both are awesome to have since they balance each other out.
I'm in the same boat as you. My wife hogs the ROG Ally, so I use the Legions Go when I want more frames and more resolution. But my Steam Deck OLED is my go to for non-heavy titles (indies and older titles).
@baldlyrudy would you recommend rog ally over the go ?? I like the go but ergo and weight were a big problem for me when i tested it but the rog on ally is a big problem too what would you recommend?? (I have the SD Lcd is the ally battery worst than lcd ? And the battery of the Go is the better than lcd ) thank you
I fly 3-4 weeks out of the month for work, this thing is perfect for flights. I detach the controllers and put the screen in the headrest holder and either get some gaming in or watch downloaded movies from Amazon on this gorgeous screen. Just in case my my seat doesn't have an outlet I got a 27,000mha portable battery. This thing is great for downtime in my hotel room too, just plug it into a small dock with an hdmi cable and you're good to go.
I just watched a video where some guy is selling 3d printed comfort grips that snap on to the legion go at the sides. That might fix your ergonomics issue, though they are sold out now lol. They are specifically custom made for the legion go. The guy commented it really changed how comfortable it felt using them and changed how he viewed legion go. There was also additional 3d printed things they did for it, such as thicker grips for FPS mode controllers that turn them more into a joystick than the flimsy design they are while still having access to the buttons. Also one that allows you to use the controllers as an actual console controller by connecting them both to each other with a middle base via 3d printing. All are fairly cheap at around $20 each. They look fantastic actually and probably a must have if I'm considering getting it. I'm really torn on deciding between steam deck oled vs legion go. So I'm just browsing all videos trying to make a decision. I've never held a handheld console before. I understand the differences - Ease of use and console for steam oled, vs the sheer power that legion go offers, but not as portable and finicky with windows. So I'm not really sure which one I would appreciate more between the two. I'm stuck in limbo because I don't really know which i'd regret least, or prefer more.
@@baldlyrudy I tried inputting the links, wont work. you can find the links/details in Retro Gaming Corps YT video though. Video is titled 'I'm starting to love the legion go'.
I use mine as a full fledged pc, alot of times plugged to an external monitor. I can use it as my travel tv, photo and light video editing device, writing texts, creating. When I need to, I use the Asus Rog Azoth small wireless keyboard, a lenovo hub that gives me enough ports, a wireless Corsair gaming mouse and an hdmi cable plus bluetooth earphones. Mobile internet is cheap in my region, fast and reliable. 1440p Sid Meiers Civilization for example, max settings, a lot of games can be played this way. I have a versatile library of games and I ignore a lot of AAA titles because they are often silly, have poor optimization and are made to a different audience than me. Heavier titles on 1080p with the right settings. Even titles like Cyberpunk, which will soon have AMD fsr 3.0, bumping up performance and visuals (CDPR news). The Legion GO is a real bang for the buck device for me since I can use Geforce Now cloud gaming if I want 4K RTX visuals. A little over 200 dollars / euros a year MAX (skipping some months since I dont constantly want to play heavy to run games). Very easy to take with you and plug to a tv, the keyboard and mouse plus cable do not weigh much in my small backpack. I like compact tech and thats where modern handhelds deliver and shine. The 8.8 inch touch screen is my sweet spot when I am on the go, pun intended.
Imo the go is the best handheld available right because its by far the best jack of all trades and its really not debatable. If ur only use is playing steam games then just go the deck. If you have other launchers and things like gamepass then get a windows handheld. The reason the go is the best is because its the one that doubles as a tablet the best. If im on a flight and i want to just watch movies or a show i can just remove the joycond flip the kickstand and boom uve got a tablet with a great screen. Want to play a game throw the joycons back on and back to gaming u go. If you only plan on using ur handheld to game around the house then ya maybe the new ally is the better choice but i prefer the do it all capabilities of the Go.
I love my legion go. Pretty much everything i play runs on balance mode, so i get about 2 hours of battery, 4 when i play emulators(16bit or older) or indy games on quiet mode. Not going to lie, the ergonomics are a bit rough. I just got some 3d printed snap on comfort grips that round out those edges without too much added bulk, and there's always tabletop/docked mode with a controller. And the icing on the cake, i use it as a tablet regularly, so I'm getting a lot of value out of it.
That's far from the truth. The MSI, despite its sub-par performance, has some of the best speakers out there. I'd say the ROG Ally (X) and the Steam Deck are much better than the Legion Go.
The Gen 2 is expected to be released in 2025. I believe it's worth waiting for the next-gen release, as rumors suggest that Lenovo is working on many improvements
I would’ve considered a legion go if the price was astronomical. The Ally Extreme on sale was the best bang for my buck personally. I do think this is a cool machine though.
OMG yes. The recent sales on the Ally have been insane when it comes to what it can do. It does make me think ASUS will be releasing their Ally 2 sometime in the near future though.
@@baldlyrudy I agree, but I think I’m safe with the extreme for a long time. Thanks for the content! Your comparison of the handhelds video is what made me subscribe. Looking forward to more from your channel.
I just got one to run PCVR games on the go.(lol) and it works pretty well so far. The ergonomics and weight doesn't matter since i won't be holding it. I won't be looking at it at all most of the time since i will do most things from my VR headset.
I'm incredibly tempted at 500 USD, but the truth of the matter is I have a good gaming laptop and desktop and it seems kind of silly to add yet another device. I want the functionality of a handheld but really only need it for streaming games from my laptop or desktop depending on whether I'm at home or camping in the RV. Everything beyond the screen and controls is basically irrelevant for my use case.
Cant waiiiit to collect mine today 😂 I do have concerns about ergonomics but I just dont have the money for an ally and will be annoyed with just cloud gaming cause the G cloud I really love for ergonomics is missing so much in what it can play, do and even save money on reducing cloud costs. Really cool idea with the custom true strike controllers, I truly hope they listen to their fan base and either work with an external company to release some or bring out more handhelds with interchangeable ones so we can improve the edges.
FPS mode is a game changer. I'm SO terrible at aiming. I just used it to beat the "defend the hull" section of Dead Space. Absolutely love it. I have man hands, so size and weight don't matter. I actually wish it was bigger.
Love mine. Had it since its release day. And man the improvements are perfect. Tried ets2 in Dec and that was a fail. Now it runs sweet as a nut. RDR2 wow even better
At 9:03 you say that it has to be connected to the console when you turn them on. That is false actually. If you hold the L or the R button respectively on each controller turns them on and will connect. Tried a few times to be sure. But beside that very helpful video. I am so happy with my Legion go. It replaced my ps5 and switch 😂
i have onlly had the legion go for about 6 months i sold my steam deck and upgrdaed to the legion go and im glad i did the bigger screen and access to more game stores and just an all round better hand held in my opinion over the steam deck
32:50 you're also editing videos on it? How does it performs on video editing? Hows the export times? I'm also thinking to buy LeGo primarily for gaming as well for Video editing (mostly 1080p) also....
Hey, it'll be perfectly fine. It's more than fast enough (especially for something like COrel Videostudio, which works fine on a quad core Surface Pro 8, for example).
Just a side not on the audio ,saw on another youtubers site that if you go to your realtek audio settings there are parameters to adjust the sound , he recommended the "club" sound setting, now the audio sounds a lot better.
With mine, if I am playing emulator games, at quiet, with half brightness I get like 4 hours. When I'm playing Xbox Cloud gaming, I get more like 5 hours. Using TH-cam I get about 5 hours as well. Playing Halo Infinite at low and 800p half brightness on 12 TDP, I get about 2.75 hours.
Because at the full resolution, refresh rate, and wattage consumption, the battery dies of the Legion Go dies faster. This is the peak performance for the handheld. And at the peak performance of the ROG Ally, the battery lasts longer, though not by much. When the settings are different, then the battery performance is of course different. That's why I wanted to show the example with Hollow Knight. Handheld PCs on average have really bad battery life. I don't think the average consumer wouldn't look at a lot of these settings and might not look at tweaking settings to optimize the battery. PC enthusiasts would, but not outside of it.
The battery is less due to several factors. Larger screen and more pixels to light. Higher resolution also draws more power from the battery. Next, the ram is a faster speed, once again, that needs more power. So think of these as cars. Sport cars burn more gas than a prius, they can go faster, and they accelerate faster. It all comes down to performance. Hope that helps, explained in non-technical terms.
@michaelmcclintick9541 that's very true. Which is why I mentioned turning down the power consumption and performance. But I want to use these handhelds at full throttle. If Lenovo decides to launch something this beefy with a big battery, then I want to use it as such. I don't want to hinder my potential experience.
@michaelmcclintick9541 yeah but when a faster sports car has 50l tank versus 40 litres the faster one will go longer 😅 its really similar specs 2inches won't give you shorter battery life especially when there's more battery in the go
If it weren't for the fan noise I would buy it ASAP, but I'm sensitive to high pitched sounds so I guess I'll have to wait for a handheld with similar screen size and a quiet fan.
tbh i found the resolution kinda perfect as it basically 2x integer scale the 800p ..... so the upscaling from 800p looks way better than upscaling 720p to 1080p on Ally or WinMini/Win4
Love the LGo. It has replaced my desktop. I use an egpu with and am very happy. I'm not s fan of the controllers though. I'm glad they opened up button configuration, they gyro isn't great. And the trackpad is sub-par. I use the steam deck as a glorified controller
On sale now 10% off, 512GB model. I ordered for myself, a significant birthday. I reasoned both for gaming and work! 😁 It should arrive in around 2 weeks. Not a problem.
@@baldlyrudy It's big! But in a good way. I have updated all of the things that needed updating. I'm still getting used to playing games with the controllers. I haven't tried the FPS mode yet. I have games on Steam, Epic, GOG. I will be experimenting with almost all of the games that I have. I have not hooked it up to a monitor yet. You know, for regular computer work. 😁. I purchased the amfilm 2 pack screen protector from Amazon for $10. Will be delivered tomorrow. The included case is good, just doesn't have space for the charger. I am so glad that I bought the LeGO. It seems well built and solid. I have a trip planned to Florida. I hope to have learned how to use it fully by then. 👍
@@stevec5465 nice! Solid points. The flexibility of the handheld is definitely a plus. I personally don't use FPS Mode much, but it's definitely nice to have in a pinch.
I’ve had the original steam deck and the ROG ally and honestly I’ve loved them both for different reasons . I’ve always wanted the legion go though m, waiting for a battery upgrade .
I have one coming in the post, It's BNPL so paying for it bit by bit, hopefully it will pay off in a year after I have payed it off (should only take a fe wmonths) and be worth it, by that time The Legion Go 2 will have been released and will have spex 100 times better than what we The Legion Go has.
29:00 The way you started off with saying "The Legion Go is not on par specs wise versus the ROG Ally" is very confusing considering you go on to list all the ways it has higher specs than the Ally lol
Screen size, resolution, refresh rate, RAM clock speed. The difference is there. That's why I mentioned decreasing resolution, TDP, and refresh rate. If the Legion Go had a 1080 screen at 120hz, but retained the same specs, it would be much better than the ROG Ally when talking about battery life.
for me there two different handhelds there the one u play in the car and on a plane and ones you take with u on the trip and use in the hotel room. For me my switch is what I use on the plane and the legion go and steam deck is what I use in the hotel room(I used to have the steam deck but I sold it)
I started wanting a Steam Deck and wanted to check out videos before committing. I fell into a hole watching vids on the Steamdeck, Ally, claw, and Legion..and I have to say even though it seems the devs are more casual with the updates people are finding work around to all the problems. I It comes down to taste and function. if you're a Valve fanboy you're gonna get a Steam deck, if you're poor and/or a casual gamer you're gonna get the ally or a switch, the MSI claw is a hot mess. The Legion Go I feel is more for people who weren't to do a lot of things other than gaming, even with the battery issue there's a workaround with it, the mouse function is weird but there's probably a workaround for that too. The price is the same as a cheap desktop or laptop. so it's a hefty sum but I think I'm gonna get it because it can do a lot more. I've also seen that it can handle Star Citizen somewhat which is a resource-dependent game. i also watched a video about using the ar glasses which seemed cool so it made me wonder how it would do with vr and if it would hold up better than the steamdeck.
You never ever care. Battery life. Bc it a. Hand-held bigger battery will make it heavy. You can have pug in or portable charger. All handheld dies, the x has a bigger battery but does not make it better all hand held. Have pros and cons, and u must see what is best for you. The wost is switched the way it feels in your hands, and the steam deck and switch should be jealous, lol
It is a bit of an odd ball. Worste astatic and look. But if the controllers/stick have issues, you can just swap them out for new ones. Battery has been very mixed for me. It's lasted quite a few hours to as little as an hour, while playing the dame games. I honeslt seemed to get more batter life in high performance modes as well, which makes bo sense.
legion is just too big and heavy for me causing discomfort, loud fan noise. onexplayer pro is alot better from performance to comfort, with no fan noise at all
I must have bigger hands than you because I've never found it dig into my skin. One of your complaints was it needed to be wiped down a lot, that's kind of a silly comment. The speaker sound can be improved with the Realtek Equalizer using the built in software and most people will be using headphones. I've also never found the fans too loud. The start and select buttons can easily be remapped to where they make more sense for you. The Legion GO software is currently in a good space. Also you must be pretty weak if you find it heavy. Sorry but all your complaints on this device are not totally accurate. Nice video though but the Legion GO is an incredible handheld PC and I'm loving it!
Proprietary PSU suck. The most powerful non professional pcie power only cards right now are the original GTX 1650, the rtx 3050 6gb, or the Rx 6400. If you want to cheat a little bit you can get a sata to 6 pin adapter for like a rtx 4060. If you want a board powered professional card then the rtx a2000 or the rtx 4000 sff are great, but pricey.
i have a feeling battery life is a little more subjective to these things, my legions battery is better then my allys, not like an hour longer or anything, steam deck oled is still dominate there, but a good half hour at least.
So if you were new to the handheld market, would you consider the Legion Go as your entry point? I’m leaning heavily towards it with the expectation it will receive some great updates in the future, but I’m also very tempted by the SDOled’s battery life. If the ROG Ally had a trackpad then I probably would have just gone with that.
TL;Dr SD OLED for battery life and seamless OS. Legion Go for higher specs and Windows compatibility. 100% depends on what you're looking for and the games you play. The SD OLED battery life is insane. But, I'd also like to mention that the flexibility of Windows is really, really nice. There are three things that I personally don't like about the Legion Go. The weight, the ergonomics, and the battery when playing at max performance. The TDP can be tweaked to the games that you're playing to extend battery life, but overall I like to play at max settings whenever possible. With the aging Steam Deck chipset, you feel the performance dip on newer titles. That being said, Valve always said 30fps was their target. Undoubtedly, you'll get better performance on the Legion Go. Windows is janky as all heck, but I do want to say that it's nice to not have to worry about compatibility. SteamOS is the closest console-like experience in a PC handheld I've seen to date. I hope that helps. 😅
@@baldlyrudy It certainly does! Thanks for the detailed response! I think I’m going to get the Legion Go. I’m quite lucky in the sense that my wife works for a retailer that sells the handheld, so I would get it at a discounted price that matches the cost of a 1TB Steam Deck OLED, so I feel it would be a missed opportunity at that price. I have high hopes that Microsoft will eventually design an OS specifically for handheld gaming too, so fingers crossed it will be worthwhile in the long run 🤞Battery life will be a bit of a bummer, but I guess that’s what power banks are for 😅
@@mrbrit6746 haha! Couldn't agree more! It's a really good spot to be at if you can get it at that price point. And yeah, external power banks are a must.
Trackpad is overhyped legion go users rarely even use the track pads instead they disable it, a waste of space. Just bind the two joysticks as mouse arrow with shoulder buttons as left and right click.
maybe i havent been on enough 120hz screens to care but i’d be stoked with 60-70hz on a handheld. as long as the performance is smooth im gucci. its a handheld at the end of the day 🤷
The reason why a higher refresh rate is better is because if performance isn't smooth, the screen will adjust and this will look much smoother than they actually are. That's why people were aiming at 40fps for the LCD model to the Steam Deck and are okay with 30fps on the OLED model. The microframe timing is better overall, AFAIK. But yeah, the closer to 60fps, the better.
100% depends on what you are going to play. If you're going to play AAA titles or games that have any sort of anti-cheat in them, then I'd recommend the Legion Go over the Steam Deck. With the Legion Go, you also get the flexibility of Windows OS. The Steak Deck OLED has the better battery life and more console-like experience, but has a weaker chipset.
If this is anything like the pc ... Couldnt you go into the windows 11 settings and turn off the mouse so touching it doesnt do anything while your using the handheld form? ... I know laptops had that for their trackpad
With the display and frames etc, I see loads talk about ally and it’s setting that makes it much better. What’s your thoughts? Sorry can’t think of the 3 letters they use for the ally.
The ROG Ally is awesome! But the Legion Go is better when comparing specs. In the real world though, I prefer the Ally. The display is one of the best out there. Frames are decent. And it's more comfortable to hold. I just wish it had the track pad the Legion Go had.
@@baldlyrudy thank you, as I’m in two minds which one. ALLY has VRR (that’s what I was trying to say lol) just wish the screen was a little bigger or at least went to the edges of the screen

@ultimatebreak827 you're welcome. Yeah, sometimes those estimates are finicky. I guess mine was in the first batch. I need to do a video on the thing already.
To me the legion go works good with fps games. Open world games it struggles bad. Other than that if you adjust the settings it can run almost everything

Is it worth buying the Legion Go new for 700 Dollars
@@DevinSchreiterno the Switch 2 is up next, save for it
The Legion Go has replaced something that I wasn’t expecting it to replace: my iPad Pro
my iPadPro has been a daily driver for 4 yrs & after evaluating an Ally Extreme for a week, these handhelds do so much of what I expected my iPadPro to do by now that I'm not surprised u made the jump!
I got the Ally Extreme to replace a black screen 2015 MBP that's been perfect to learn the ropes of Batocera Linux & start contributing to open source. I haven't owned a Windows machine since my Thinkpad died in 2004 & $499 was that magic pricepoint for the mac mini & became a Apple fanboy monster 😅 I'm decently happy w my iPadPro but it refuses to continue to push all kinds of envelopes & Google Docs on Safari quirks are getting old fast (it was working so well!)
I watch this video & see dual USB4 as futureproofing & I'd bet someone will come up w Switch-like detachable joycons for the Go🔮 this so would be the cherry on top! 🍒
I'm just getting my feet wet in PC gaming so I'm not that demanding (yet) - a $456 open box Ally Extreme is good bang for the buck being under my budget of $500.
That said, I'm trying to decide by next Tue whether or not to spend the extra 50% ($224) for the 1TB Go (or even 75% ($344) for the Ally X) or if I should just sit pretty & let the handheld storm weather out longer ⛈️
what is yr journey? what are some of yr major use cases? did ya actually ditch yr iPadPro completely?
hope I'm not asking too much as input appreciated as a fellow iPadPro user!🙏🏻

Hello, some tips:
1) For audio: fxsound - gaming mode
2) Virtual memory: disk C - 10 Gb, disk D - 32 Gb
3) Disable CPU turbo boost
4) When using Performance mode, Lenovo works for 90-100 minutes. For heavy games, 20w is enough.
5) Screen resolution in games:
If the game runs in 2K resolution as rdr 2 (texture ultra, fsr balance, 20w (Performance mode), fps 36 limit (144 hz screen)) - enjoy.
If the game does not work stably at 2k at 36 fps, then the game resolution is 1200p and the screen resolution is 1600p + lossless scaling program with the ls1 algorithm (the game must be in a window) - enjoy
I appreciate all of this. Thanks! 🙌
I'd also add to use something like bloatynosy to remove the bloat processes, I went from 250 to 110 with a noticeable increase in performance.
Hi i didn't understand what you mean in second point. What do you mean virtual memory disc c 10 gb

is awesome for the GO, it up-scales and does frame gen for any game in window mode, even more demanding games 😀
@Anthonyelmio2 that is a beautiful thing. 👍
This obviously happens for some people, but know that YMMV, and it may just end up being the most comfortable handheld you've ever used
That's the thing about ergonomics. What's comfortable for one person might be completely uncomfortable for another.
It's a non issue... people just like to complain.

All the open Box ones have literally nothing wrong with them so might as well get them cheaper. The only thing you're missing out on is the Xbox Game Pass trial that comes with the legion go.

I’m a battery saver guy so I don’t mind playing at reasonable settings to save battery life quite the opposite from you. Just want to give some info. Currently playing lies of P on this thing with 800p low settings quality fsr.
1.10w - 36/40fps - 3hrs
2.12w - 60FPS - 2hrs30minutes
Imo the sweetspot for most games are 10w-12w.
Wattage to battery estimation(800p/60hz/wifi off/bluetooth off/light off/low settings)
1. 7w to 8w - 4hrs30mins/4hrs(good for emulation until ps2 for most games
2.9 to 10 w - 3hrs30mins/3hrs(perfect for new light pc games and possible for older AAA game such as hellblade, gta v and also possible for some newer AAA 30-40fps ex-lies of P.
3.11w-12w - 2hrs45mins/2hrs30mins(good for 60FPS optimised triple A games/older AAA games.
4.15w-18w - 2hrs10mins/1hr50mins(good for 30-40fps for newest Not very optimised game such as helldivers 2, avatar, starfield)
Of course these are not 100% accurate. These are just based on my experience and rough calculations.
You have to push and hold the pause and select the button equivalents on these controllers to turn them on when they are off the main body

It's definitely a great handheld and amazing experience.
Okay. That sounds amazing! I'd be up for trying that out since I have a 3D printer. I'll look into it and see what's possible.

Complaining about the audio on a handheld is nonsensical. It's a handheld. It's not going to sound great without headphones.

Really cool idea with the custom true strike controllers, I truly hope they listen to their fan base and either work with an external company to release some or bring out more handhelds with interchangeable ones so we can improve the edges.
the controllers do connect, they also auto shut off, you can hold down like the legion space button and it will turn on and auto connect
FPS mode is a game changer. I'm SO terrible at aiming. I just used it to beat the "defend the hull" section of Dead Space.
Absolutely love it.
I have man hands, so size and weight don't matter.
I actually wish it was bigger.
Nah, an 8'8 inch is already perfect, making it bigger would just make it a laptop tbh
And I'm not sure if it was available at time of making this video either
Figured it out because they kept shutting off on me, I guess from inactivity
i have onlly had the legion go for about 6 months i sold my steam deck and upgrdaed to the legion go and im glad i did the bigger screen and access to more game stores and just an all round better hand held in my opinion over the steam deck
You've been able to swap the legion buttons with the start and select buttons since at least February
How come battery life is atrocious compared to Rog Ally which can't hold charge even for 1hour with AAA games?
@michaelmcclintick9541 yeah but when a faster sports car has 50l tank versus 40 litres the faster one will go longer 😅 its really similar specs 2inches won't give you shorter battery life especially when there's more battery in the go
The only games you can play in 1600p would be the hollow knight lol and your won't notice a difference matching the 1080p of the ally
How hot does that thing get? That was a big issue with MSI’s release.
Hi,
There is a way to remap the top and bottom buttons. It’s located in the control settings once you press the top right button.
Thanks! Much appreciated. 🙌
Thanks for the video :) Hope you're having fun playing games with your kids
Thank you! I appreciate that.
We've been enjoying all sorts of shenanigans.
Let's Gooo i saw this on Lenovo store and it's Huge IRL
Love the LGo. It has replaced my desktop. I use an egpu with and am very happy. I'm not s fan of the controllers though. I'm glad they opened up button configuration, they gyro isn't great. And the trackpad is sub-par. I use the steam deck as a glorified controller
On sale now 10% off, 512GB model.
I ordered for myself, a significant birthday.
I reasoned both for gaming and work! 😁
It should arrive in around 2 weeks. Not a problem.
Nice! Congrats. LMK what you think when you get it.
Bro, you are not up to date with software improvements with the Go.. You CAN remap the legion and quick menu buttons to the start/select buttons….
Found that out!
I’ve had the original steam deck and the ROG ally and honestly I’ve loved them both for different reasons . I’ve always wanted the legion go though m, waiting for a battery upgrade .
Yeah. They all have their own individual pros and cons.
Agreed! I hope that the design is a tad more ergonomic around the edges of the controllers. Those hard angles are uncomfortable for me. 🫠
29:00
The way you started off with saying "The Legion Go is not on par specs wise versus the ROG Ally" is very confusing considering you go on to list all the ways it has higher specs than the Ally lol
Yeeeeeeah. You're right. That's not clear. I should've followed that comment with "The Legion Go supercedes the ROG Ally."
@baldlyrudy Just a minor nitpick. Great review overall though!
@@BrentCox2B thank you! I appreciate it.
Battery Is worse than the ally? How lol 50wh vs 40wh in the ally..... 2 inches in screen doesn't draw that much more
Screen size, resolution, refresh rate, RAM clock speed. The difference is there. That's why I mentioned decreasing resolution, TDP, and refresh rate. If the Legion Go had a 1080 screen at 120hz, but retained the same specs, it would be much better than the ROG Ally when talking about battery life.
I personally have the device always on charger cuz it comes with a very long charging cable
That way you don't have to worry about sacrificing performance for battery longevity.
for me there two different handhelds there the one u play in the car and on a plane and ones you take with u on the trip and use in the hotel room. For me my switch is what I use on the plane and the legion go and steam deck is what I use in the hotel room(I used to have the steam deck but I sold it)
you can now change the fan curves btw
Love that! I noticed it in the performance section when creating a custom profile.
@@baldlyrudy I mentioned this due to you saying the fan noise was pretty loud, do the fan curves diminish the fan noise?
@@CJTheTokay yeah. I get that. The fan noise is only an issue at full load with default profiles.
I've also seen that it can handle Star Citizen somewhat which is a resource-dependent game. i also watched a video about using the ar glasses which seemed cool so it made me wonder how it would do with vr and if it would hold up better than the steamdeck.
my japanese visual novels with Xreal AR glasses nets me 8hrs. the world desperately needs new energy tech
If lenovo legion go has a VRR. It would be perfect.
I think the battery, ergonomics, and the speakers are the things that I don't like about it the most. Aside from that, this thing is a beast.
legion is just too big and heavy for me causing discomfort, loud fan noise. onexplayer pro is alot better from performance to comfort, with no fan noise at all
I must have bigger hands than you because I've never found it dig into my skin.
Enjoy your PC handheld then.
Could anyone suggest a dock with usb-c to ethernet and other goodies if possible???
JSAUX makes good ones that don't break the bank.
I still get the issue where my app doesnt recognize the controller. Never get this issue on my deck or ally.
Are you talking about a third party controller via Bluetooth or the actual True Strike controllers?
Steam turn off
@@baldlyrudy the actual controllers attached to the system. And im caught up on updates
@EddiePReacts okay. That's super weird and I'd RMA it if you can.
Steam Deck OLED is by far the best experience when it comes to battery life.
@@jackykwan2580 I disagree. I use the track pad all the time to navigate through Windows.
maybe i havent been on enough 120hz screens to care but i’d be stoked with 60-70hz on a handheld. as long as the performance is smooth im gucci. its a handheld at the end of the day 🤷
The reason why a higher refresh rate is better is because if performance isn't smooth, the screen will adjust and this will look much smoother than they actually are. That's why people were aiming at 40fps for the LCD model to the Steam Deck and are okay with 30fps on the OLED model. The microframe timing is better overall, AFAIK.
But yeah, the closer to 60fps, the better.
I may get me a legion go. loved your review ❤
@@soulassassin4847 thank you! I appreciate that a lot. 🙌
If you hold the legion button & quick menu button the controllers will power on..

How is the use of trackpad for shooter games?
@@denzelitoguiruela2906 why would you though? Lol
Thanks Sir , what do you recommended legion go or steam deck OLED?
