2023 Toyota Vios (VERSUS) Nissan Almera in Malaysia - battle of the near-RM100k B-segment sedans

- Before you ask, yes we know we're missing a major segment competitor here.
Toyota in 2023 brought in the all-new Vios, raising their game by offering a true 'baby Corolla'. A sexier fastback look, DNGA underpinnings, more tech, and much improved refinement. However, it also brought the price up quite a bit (RM96k) as a result.
This change brings it into the firing line of the Nissan Almera, which has been around in the Malaysian market for a couple of years a bit of a hidden gem now. It's design is arguably just as sharp, it's got a huge boot, a swanky interior, and also plenty of tech and features. It's also got a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine that gives it a sportier edge.
Both are Japanese. Both cars closes the gap to the C-segment. Both are priced nearly identically. Which is the better buy?

VLT owner here. Almera has more of a big-car feel to it and the engine hums at a shade under 2k rpm when cruising at 110kmh. The seats won me over after testing the Almera, x50 and City.
Nissan Almera is hidden gem and good car, which Malaysian are too conservatives on car only thinking T & H. What a waste on a good product which design to be a global car unlike Vios.
Nice one Sir. 👍 Done subscribe to your channel
Nice presentation. Congrats to both presenters. But for me visually almeera looks much nicer, simpler and more matured. Turbo is the way to go..
Like your presentation guys. Keep it up.
Title really should be " Nissan Almera VS Daihatsu Vios " , also , not mentioning the lack of spare tyre AND non folding rear seats is an oversight imo
Nothing bad about Daihatsu's DNGA, still Japanese. Seen the new crash test, old vios fans will cry 😂.
Still a toyota. Not daihatsu. A lexus using tnga is still a lexus . Not toyota.
How many people even know how to change a spare tire plus they gave a kit thing which is easier and way more practical for most people and the seats thing who tf usually actually uses it then go buy a Hilux or borrow someone's car or ask the seller if they have something to transport it
@@fwogiii9285 100% correct.. I own the car and I loving it.. futuristic design and system 🥰
@@mohamadbasheer7534 I'm planning to get one too after I get my license
I test drive both car, almera turbo steering is far more lighter and better handling.. wow..
I’ve owned and drove the Almera VLT for like over 2 years now. I’m a pretty fast driver, so I’ve drove it at genting up and down cutting corners a few times, went to and from Penang a few times at an average cruising speed of 160km/h with more than 2 other passengers cruise control enabled, and even a bit of off-roading at pd lol! Crazy right? And so far the car has been doing amazingly well, the handling and engine feels great, especially when u floor it you’re able to hear this cool sound from the turbo. Although 100hp, so u can’t really expect crazy accelerations and speeds. I really like the design of the exterior and interior as well, I think in terms of that the vios and almera is definitely top 3-4 in the segment. Interior leather on dashboard and seats are really good too! However it falls a bit short since it lacks rear ac, electronic braking and auto hold. Besides that, it is an amazing car to have in terms of reliability, performance, fuel consumption, and looks.
Hi guys. Thanks for the fairly reviews. I hve just bought nissan almera vlt based on ur honest presentation.
I bought one in May 2023, still don't have Android Auto. Yours new batch should have by now
Great to hear!
I rather buy proton than nissan, reliability issue, turbo prob, after 2 years 30% RV dropped, plus high price for no wow factor
i thought new vios cut spare tyre cut rear seat fold to make it faster 2s??? But Why every1 say it slower then old gen?
Why no City?
vios got offer?
TNGA? This Vios is running on DNGA. The Yaris in Japan is the one running on actual TNGA.
First he said DNGA, maybe lipslip on the second one. TNGA used for new Innova, Corolla altis and cross, Camry. There's nothing bad about DNGA, you seen the new crash test on new vios?,passed with flying colours, old vios fans will cry 😂.
The only reason vios is a reasonable buy nowadays is only its reliability and after sale, other than that no extra advantage
Electronic handbrake, auto hold, wireless carplay, dash cams, continental r17 wheels, acc, auto rain wipers…what else? 💀
The design at the back of Vios seems like City/BMW/Saga. From the side, I don't know why it looks like Preve. No novelty at all. Sorry Vios.
Nissan almera the best...fun to drive...
design wise, the Almera 2023 has more character to its design its the type of design that grows on you, the design is very aerodynamic yet very sharp. Also, the body kits available for almera are insanely good.
But with the interior of car from 2010s 😂
Almera for world market
Vios market for asia only
the new vios looks outdated already, come on toyota, do better, not all car need to look alike
Nissan with better NVH ,better ride and handling .Vios is only ASEAN model trying to be world car.
Almera Turbo 🔥🔥
100 ps gaiss 💪💪
I will wait for S50. Value for money
i love the almera,
Where is Honda city?
Should add one more competitor which is honda city rs fl
RS is upper level already. Surely will be the fastest. Maybe can compete with V-sensing.
@@mohamadbasheer7534 new city facelift has rs petrol n rs hybrid. It could be compare using rs petrol.
I prefer almera with the 1.5 NA engine, ni
Vios bro is Toyota fanboy 😂😂. Was waiting for this review after watching the drag race in FB, a lot of Toyota fan couldn’t accept in the comments.
Almera looks better
Correction perodua/daihatsu vios
Vios have power mode
The Almera ticks all the right boxes for me, except the 7k service interval. Deal-breaker.
all other Nissan cars have 10k service interval, this is the only one with 6-7k interval, probably because this is the only CVT car in their line up.
@@dp8460 it's because of the turbon
@@sara.cbc92 im not really sure if this is because of the turbo, but they do have calibre and navarra with turbo engine with 10km service interval. Thats why i thought its because of the cvt.
Take away a tyre and almera sure win
honda city jugak akhirnya hahahaha
😂
Nice car but engine to slow 😢
Vios,aunties loves this car😂😂😂😂
No. Aunties only want H 😂
ALMERA. Change la the name
Almera interior look abit outdated especially the the player
Honestly, I think Almera front looks damn uggo.

the vios headlights mske it look like sid from ice age, ugly imo
Like you
Means you like old ugly designed headlights.. bro this is new design language from conti's, we as the youngsters liking it..
PERSONAL opinions affect you? get a life bro.@@sputnikfreshie3601
just because you like it doesnt mean everyone has to. you know what kind of headlights i like? Mazda, Honda, Nissan, and some toyotas, alot of Euro and american cars also have good design languages. just because someone has their own opinion doesnt mean that I like ugly headlights. or did you just get triggered by my opinion? thats a YOU problem. aint changing the fact that it still looks like sid from ice age.@@mohamadbasheer7534
