Thanks for the in-depth review, Hafriz. I was waiting for one and Hafriz, as usual, has done an excellent job. I think the review is fair and accurate. The Vios does indeed have a lot of improvements and some flaws. This is common. No car is perfect. Glad to see an experienced reviewer giving a verdict on the car. Great work.

@@hafrizshah4937 tbh, you are the only guy who can review a car over 30 minutes and escape unscathed, where majority of viewers willingly watching until the end of the video without fast forward... I would have bought the Vios 2023 without hesitant if not for the missing spare tyre, but you somehow almost convince me to go for it... however, the launching of new Yaris hatchback this coming June with the same built from the old Toyota platform instead of the new Daihatsu platform is making me think twice... so when it comes to comfort, handling and insulation/noise proof, is the new Yaris hatchback better or the Vios 2023 win it hands down(assuming the new Yaris is still the same as the previous Yaris model)?
Btw do you think opting for Yaris hatchback instead of Vios 2023 a wise option(let’s ignore the boot size for this question)? Yes/No and why?
In Thailand, there is even saying that if you don’t like the feel of new Vios 2023 with the Daihatsu platform and wish to get back the old Toyota feel, then go for the new Yaris hatchback.
And I am all confused because I never drive a Toyota before and don’t know what to expect, especially with the change of built platform.

The great handling of this car is because this is NOT a DNGA.
Bcs the engineer had the opportunity to build a completely new design from scratch, this meant that they can inject whatever wish they wanted.
And for Vios, it is mainly targeting 20-35yo client, and it stands to reason they want the car to be fuel efficient, as well as nice to handle.
Essentially what they are trying to mimic is the Civic Ketam, that was sold like hot cakes many moons ago, but under 100k price tag.
The split folding is not really a big deal for me, rather, the absent of spare tyre is.

  • @dutz8687
    @dutz8687 ปีที่แล้ว +18

Great review from a professional reviewer giving facts (pros and cons) instead of spewing destructive criticisms like that JR Song guy who let his emotion got the best of him, simply bashing the new vios being way worse than the previous gen. Personally for me, the biggest deal breaker for some customers is definitely the 60:40 split as they would find themselves carrying longer items to fit in the car a few times in a year. If that's the case then Honda City is clearly a better choice. Despite the absence of a spare tyre in the new vios, it can easily be solved by buying a used spare tyre and put it in the rear trunk where the hidden compartment is located. It would cost less than RM500, which is not a big deal as what JR Song has been fussing about. Overall, the new Vios offers more advanced and recent features in the B segment Car, coupled with fuel efficiency and better ride and comfort compared to other competitors, it is definitely a car worth buying.

As a former Vios owner myself,i'm with him..he made all valid points with all being mentioned was not an improvements but loss to the buyers..i afraid if this Vios try to set this 'kedekut' benchmark , all other manufacturers will try to follow. Malaysia version will always become bare and bare compared to our neighrbor countries if we dont say anything and just settle.

Like Hafriz said, vios target market now focus on people who looking for better car from small and old car.

Aiyo, you really believe those official fuel consumption meh...they used controlled environment, very optimal road and traffic condition and result that are not possible for everyday drive. Happened to ALL other brands official result. Depends on your driving style, road traffic condition, road condition, etc. My old city published 21km/l, die die I can only achieve 15km/l that is on highway drive most of time with minimal traffic and less brake usage. Unless you want to stay near highway, work near highway and out of traffic jam in small town. My 2011 persona can consistently get 10-12 km/h average on mostly 60% highway drive, so its your personal driving style, road condition, highway drive, traffic conditions that pull you down to 8km/l. If you drive short drive, lots of brake and go and in heavy traffic city all the time, then its normal to get 8km/l

@@brandonczw just because you don't use it doesn't mean it shouldn't be included? I drive an axia with a spare tyre.. There's once an idiot pushed me off the road and I hit the curb, tyre instantly tore and flapping when I still rolling on the road until I found a good spot to stop and change into my spare tyre. That took me 45 minutes cuz it was my first time to change into a spare. Tyre repair kit can't save you from a torn tyre. You need to call tow truck to tow your car to a workshop, and that would take more than 45 minutes at least.
Split folding seats are just convenient, who knows you are starting a family, then need to go Ikea to buy some long furnitures, then end up cannot fit into the car cuz can't fold down, then how? Ask ikea to deliver and incur more costs.
If based on your statement, literally most of your car safety features aren't used much also ma. How often would you brake hard until ABS is engaged?
Or drive through corners so fast that TC and ESC starts to take over / assist?
so might as well take those features out eh? Since you don't use it before or often..
airbags also not needed, cuz you don't crash often. take them out, cut the cost down, then car will be cheaper .. lol..
For a car close to RM 100k, no spare tyre and folding seats on the pretense to make it lighter and handles better are just bullshit to me..

I would still get the Axia, save myself 40k ringgit. no spare wheel and no folding rear seats just seem impractical, the other flourishes are just forgettable, wireless apple car play just a gimmick. or maybe I'm just cheap

I hope getting a repair kit instead of a spare tyre does not become a norm.
If you’re having a flat tyre on Malaysia’s B road it’ll most probably caused by a tear from pothole, repair kit cant fix that.

The lazy delay response can be negated by switching off the vsa and traction control..it will be very responsive. Push to s mode it’s even faster. The suspension may have extensive body roll, but when you corner hard you feel it’s much stable than older vios. Fc is also good.

Those who complain the new Vios here and there are likely people who not afford to buy one or City owner. On the road now the new registered Vios is getting more as I see the new vios is on the road now around KL and Selangor area.
Toyota DNGA models not good? The 1st half total sales is 48k units while Honda is about 34k units. Vios start selling in Q2 and with this model add on the gap will be bigger.

Veloz is more valuable car at that price point. justifies its 8 months waiting period. younger gen needs space for their lifestyle - outdoor activities. I've been told both Alza/Veloz bookings are made by people starting from their 20's (even single person). T has to rethink on their target market for this expensive Vios. T cannot depend on Ricer boy segment only. personally i think UMW had screwed up (as always)
