    So coincidental. Installed Marks cylinders into two of these just yesterday 😳

    Well Dang it! When I got my FE595 I wanted to change the cylinder, but it has a special plastic cam that can't be swapped. I did not get the connect because I did not need the connectivity features. But in my searching I have seen other videos and pictures of what I believe is the FE595 but with a standard 5 pin cylinder and special tailpiece (not plastic) that could potentially be swapped.

    Thank you for making this video!
    Which Kwikset Smartkey Deadbolt Cyclinder would you recommend I can add to this lock? I’m also looking to do it with a Level Lock Touch Edition.
    Do I need a single cylinder or double cylinder?

    • @selock
      @selock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You cannot add a kwikset smartkey cylinder to these. Those only work in Kwikset smartkey deadbolts.
      You also wouldn't add a level lock to this type of lock in this video. You add those to standard deadbolts. If you need it to be Kwikset smartkey then just purchase a standard Kwikset brand deadbolt and add your level lock to it.

      Now I’m confused. I thought the whole purpose of this video was to confirm that the cylinder on the Schlage Connect can be changed. I was thinking of replacing it with a 980 Kwikset Cylinder. Do you think it’s possible or do I need to get a specific model?

    • @selock
      @selock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@efmarosario4953 it can be changed to standard key in knob cylinders (shown in the video) which are made with different keyways (including Kwikset) and are designed to be used in locks that can have their cylinder switched out. Like this one. You can get the Kwikset keyway but it isn’t a “smartkey” cylinder meaning it has to be traditionally pinned by a locksmith to your Kwikset key
      Kwikset smartkey cylinders are proprietary to their deadbolts, they are not built to use in anything else.

    • @efmarosario4953
      @efmarosario4953 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So even if SmartKey Security re-key technology is compatible with Kwikset (KW1) keyway or (SC1) keyway options it won’t work on this Connect?

    Did you try retrofitting an ASSA Abloy Protec2 KIK cylinder into this Schlage smart lock or similar model? If so, which cylinder model did you end up using?

    • @selock
      @selock  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it’s a standard “Schlage style” or “standard” KIK it should work. I don’t sell Protec so 🤷‍♂️ but as long as the tailpiece can be used it should

    For a Kwikset smart key

    • @selock

      Kwikset SmartKey only works for OEM Kwikset deadbolts.

    A quick question I couldn’t find an answer to on the Schlage website. I am hoping to rekey a Schlage Encode, smart deadbolt and a Schlage B60N deadbolt to use this same key.
    Q1: Is the five pin cylinder on the Encode deadbolt the same or similar to the five pin cylinder used in the B60N deadbolt?
    Would they use the same pins if I bought a rekey kit online to rekey these cylinders?
    A vendor on eBay is telling me they use different pins, but he doesn’t sound that sure of himself.
    Many thanks for your help.
    Q2: If the rekey package contains a 6-pin key, can that be used to rekey the 5-pin cylinders? Are they compatible?

    • @selock
      @selock  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes they can be keyed alike, same cylinder use Schlage pins

      I wasn’t specific enough. What was the part number for the one you used in the video. I went to my local locksmith and he couldn’t recommend a replacement since he said they only cost a few bucks to rekey. I want to order one for my son’s Connect.

    • @selock
      @selock  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LI-FLKayakFisherman you would need to search for a Ilco Key in Knob Cylinder to whatever brand key you want it to use. 15995 (and keyway) I don’t know what type of key you are trying to match
